Continuously materialising views in preview

Bigtable SQL works with Bigtable's new continuous materialised views (preview) to eliminate data staleness and maintenance complexity. This allows real-time data aggregation and analysis in social networking, advertising, e-commerce, video streaming, and industrial monitoring.

Bigtable views update gradually without impacting user queries and are fully controllable. Bigtable materialised views accept a full SQL language with functions and aggregations.

Bigtable's Materialised Views have enabled low-latency use cases for Google Cloud's Customer Data Platform customers. It eliminates ETL complexity and delay in time series use cases by setting SQL-based aggregations/transformations upon intake. Google Cloud uses data transformations during import to give AI applications well prepared data with reduced latency.

Ecosystem integration

Real-time analytics often require low-latency data from several sources. Bigtable's SQL interface and ecosystem compatibility are expanding, making end-to-end solutions using SQL and basic connections easier.

Open-source Apache Large Table Washbasin Kafka

Companies utilise Google Cloud Managed Service for Apache Kafka to build pipelines for Bigtable and other analytics platforms. The Bigtable team released a new Apache Kafka Bigtable Sink to help clients build high-performance data pipelines. This sends Kafka data to Bigtable in milliseconds.

Open-source Apache Flink Connector for Bigtable

Apache Flink allows real-time data modification via stream processing. The new Apache Flink to Bigtable Connector lets you design a pipeline that modifies streaming data and publishes it to Bigtable using the more granular Datastream APIs and the high-level Apache Flink Table API.

BigQuery Continuous Queries are commonly available

BigQuery continuous queries run SQL statements continuously and export output data to Bigtable. This widely available capability can let you create a real-time analytics database using Bigtable and BigQuery.

Python developers may create fully-managed jobs that synchronise offline BigQuery datasets with online Bigtable datasets using BigQuery's Python frameworks' bigrames streaming API.

Cassandra-compatible Bigtable CQL Client Bigtable is previewed.

Apache Cassandra uses CQL. Bigtable CQL Client enables developers utilise CQL on enterprise-grade, high-performance Bigtable without code modifications as they migrate programs. Bigtable supports Cassandra's data migration tools, which reduce downtime and operational costs, and ecosystem utilities like the CQL shell.

Let me take you back to the summer of 2023.

It's lovely, peaceful, @camelspit's just started the first best keeper character bracket. We're starting with rounds of five, and June 16th, we've got a rather odd bracket: Alina, Oralie, Ella, Gisela, and Mr. Snuggles.

Roisin asks in the tags for the stuffies not to win, so I go haha, I don't really care about any of these guys except Snuggles. I have my own Mr. Snuggles and a fondness for dragons, so I vote for him. Don't even think of it. I don't even think I reblogged it. Mr. Snuggles wins

He has another round, a 1v1. I vote for him again, don't think much of it. his opponents are piddling. He wins

Then we get to round three. He's against Verdi, and at this point i've gotten attached--I love this lil dragon. But Verdi poses a real threat, because when I vote he's losing. I start campaigning. Cath becomes my enemy. It starts escalating.

But Mr. Snuggles pulls through, victorious. And I have now very publicly pronounced and committed myself to this bit.

We carry him through round 4 and round 5, but then we face round 6: Fitzroy vs Mr. Snuggles. It's cruel, it's twisted, it's exactly what Roisin would do.

BUT! We miraculously manage to tie the round so they both proceed.

Finally, in round 7, the very last round before finals, he loses to Sophie. i'm sad, but honestly the fact he made it to the last four is super impressive and unexpected? i'm proud

You'd think this'd be the end of it.

But Catherine, @everliving-everblaze, started a Best Fitz Duo Poll while the best character poll was running.

And one of the duos is Fitz & Mr. Snuggles.

He sweeps his first round, but that's not noteworthy.

What splintered the fandom was round two: Fitz & Mr. Snuggles vs Fitz & Alvar.

At this point in time Snuggles is still in the best character running, energy is high--I'm committed to this bit. And I don't think he stands a chance, so I don't feel bad pushing for him.

I was wrong.

It escalates.

Fitz and Snuggles stand a real chance of beating Fitz and Alvar, the fucked up sibling duo of the series. The origin of wiityispb. The blueprint.

I start trying to backpedal.

It doesn't work.

They win.

All because I decided in round three of the best character poll to throw myself behind snuggles and work the fandom up. I'm in too deep now; I can't back out--Summer (@when-wax-wings-melt) will never look at me the same. People are outraged.

I've tied myself to this stuffed dragon.

Who knows what could've been, but due to some funky tagging, I don't see the next round and it distributes oddly, and Fitz and Snuggles lose in silence to Fitz and Sophie.

A quiet end. At this point Snuggles is both out of the best character and fitz duo poll. The fandom calms and moves on, but I've set a precedent for myself. I'm The Snuggles Guy

And a few months ago, a year later, Roisin decided to have another best character poll.

To make it more manageable, there's a preliminary round to determine who will be in the poll for real. Roisin, who I can only assume was salty, ensured Snuggles would be out from the get go. It was a remarkably close fight, though. Watson, The Foster Family dog, also lost his poll. But who gives a shit about him

I'm sad, but hey, there's the comeback round! Any characters eliminated have a chance to be voted back into the running if they get enough support--there are 9 spots available.

I reblog asking for support for Mr. Snuggles, and, because I'm not a dog person, I decide to throw in a fuck Watson for fun. Who cares about some random dog we haven't even met in this fantasy series. There's some banter

The comeback round ends. Mr. Snuggles does not make it. Watson does.

I threw everything behind this dragon through two polls, tested the limits of my friendships, tied myself to him soul to soul. He was nearly a finalist, he nearly beat Sophie in the preliminaries.

And he lost to some fucking dog???

Mr. Snuggles didn't even make it to round one?

Unacceptable. Not on my fucking watch.

I will see that dog in the dirt if it's the last thing I do.

i have always seen sophie as autistic for my own reasons- and i know that others do too . what interests me is how her telepathy could have affected this? in a way? like a common experience (or at least an experience people i know have had- not implying that this is universal at all) for kids with autism is feeling like there’s something wrong with you but you dont know and also people arent willing to tell you . could this be affected by her telepathy? yknow by hearing peoples thoughts and all that. did she use this information (knowing when she was being annoying whenever she talked about her special interests a little too much, knowing what other people thought of as ‘acceptable’ behaviour, knowing that shes wrong in some way or other earlier) to ‘improve’ herself? or would it have made her feel more hopeless doing so because despite her best efforts she can never get it completely right. would that have upset her? also would telepathy overstimulate her ? it already does in canon and i feel like it would have been worse if she was hypersensitive to everything all the time

This is an excellent topic. I feel like it'd be a love/hate situation? It sucks to hear exactly what people think is wrong with her, to see all the cues she's missing, etc. But she can also use others' thoughts to learn what they really mean and expect when they say something. She can't block them, so she comes to rely on what they're not saying to tell her what to actually do. When she's talked too long, when she's expected to jump in, what kinds of responses they're expecting, etc.

Her telepathy confirms she's different (both the fact she's a telepath and people's perception of her) but also is crucial to how she connects with others. part of her masking--and I do think she'd mask. her whole thing is desperately wanting to fit in

And all this adds another layer of adjustment when she moves to the Lost Cities, because suddenly this tool she's used is gone. And elves don't necessarily think like humans, so are any of the tricks she's taught herself reliable? She's back at square one.

And you're right! she already had constant headaches, add in a sensitivity to more than thoughts and she must've been miserable.

I'm also wondering now whether Sophie would be diagnosed or not, since that also affects things. her mother's distrustful of medicine, which some people have interpreted as anti-vax (or similar). Would she have Sophie tested? Tested but not tell her she's autistic, so Sophie has to pretend she doesn't know?

I think it would take everything we see in canon to another level. Oh, also, you know how some autistic people feel like they're not human/a different species? Imagine Sophie feeling that way and then finding out it's true.

Anyway, I'll pause here, but there's a lot to consider with this one. A lot of consequences and interpretations, and it's all fascinating! i'd love to talk more on it. ty for sharing your thoughts--and again for your patience :)

You should know better than to come to work without venturing up to Aaron’s private office, but you’re late coming in and there’s a ton of stuff to do and he’s supposed to pretend that he cares when you turn in your work late. You log in and start going through things slowly. There are a few emails to respond to, some queries, a consult request Aaron himself has forwarded with a note —your expertise is required. 

You wiggle your mouse to wake the screen. You hadn’t realised you’d gotten stuck until it was dark. 

“Hi, sweetheart,” someone murmurs, tipping your head back to kiss your cheek, “where have you been?” 

He speaks quietly, no one else can hear him, but he enthuses his tone with so much love that you can’t decide between laughter or tears. You turn breathless instead, a thumb against your throat as Aaron’s loving questioning continues, “I thought we talked about this, hmm? You coming up to see me? How else am I supposed to know that you’re here?” 

There’s no Emily sitting at the desk opposite yours. No Spencer adjacent, no Derek to the right. It explains why he’s butter soft, but not his worry. 

“I was nearly late. I’m sorry.” 

He starts to kiss you gently, quietly, his lips tracking over the side of your cheek and pressing in as he goes until his nose is against your temple. “Don’t be sorry, I just wanted to see you.” He holds you to him. “I missed you.”

“Are you okay?” you ask, wishing you were brave enough to tack handsome, or love on the end. 

“Why wouldn’t I be?” 

“I thought maybe you were still stressed about Emily.” 

Aaron pulls away, giving you your first proper look at him that morning. He’s as handsome as ever. It makes your chest spike with anxiety. You worry all the time that you’ll lose him; the thought that he might realise all the things you’re missing and break things off is a constant at the back of your mind. It only ever goes quiet when he’s kissing you. “Prentiss has done well so far,” he says. “I’m not happy to have things rearranged above my head, but I have no problem with Emily. Now, how was your morning?” 

“It was fine.” 

“I want to know. Breakfast?” 

“Yeah, oatmeal.” 

He grins. “Me too.” 

Nobody would ever believe that this is your boyfriend when he’s commanding a room during a profile, or apprehending an UnSub with his impassive, furrowed brow. You assumed it was the honeymoon phase at first. It’s not like his affection makes much sense, but if he’s not stressed, it just means he loves you, which is nice. You hold the back of your hand to his cheek, laughing in a shock when he turns his face and traps it between his cheek and his shoulder. 

“No more late mornings,” he says decisively. 

“I wasn’t technically late. I wasn’t early enough to come up to see you, is all. Are you upset I didn’t bring you your coffee?” 

“Is that what you think?” he asks, smiling as he kisses your wrist, before straightening. You let your hand fall and he catches it on the way down. 

“I don’t know. You’re much too touchy. I’m trying to deduce why, but…” 

“Profile me,” Aaron says. He gives your hand a squeeze. “You know how to do it, honey. Figure out my motive from my past behaviours.” 

Aaron’s only ever this sweet on you when you’re in his bed. Well, ‘only ever’ is harsh, but he’s never not sweet on you in the afterglow. And that’s because intimacy is a constant reminder of how close you really are to one another, why he loves you, and why you love him. So perhaps he’s being sweet on you because you’ve reminded him how loved he is? But it doesn’t make much sense. You forgot his coffee.

Your stomach goes warm. “Oh. Oh,” you say, “I called you last night.” 

“You did.” 

“I was tired.” 

“But you were beautiful,” he says, and what does that mean? It’s not as though he could see your face. “I can’t remember the last time you were like that. Not since we were in Helena.”

You can’t remember it clearly. Threads of what you’d said come back to you slowly. Love you, my sweetheart, my Aaron. Can you come over? I know it’s late, I need to see you. You were too tired to function, let alone call someone, and yet. 

Your face is on fire. 

“Sorry I couldn’t come over, honey,” he says, chucking you under the chin with a curled finger. “I would’ve, I promise, but I had Jack until we swapped this morning.”

You go hot all over. “No, I know. It’s fine, I shouldn’t have called you–”

“Who says you can’t call me?” 

“Nobody, but I shouldn’t have.”

“You can call me anytime you want.” He tips your chin up. “Quick, Spencer’ll have finished what I asked him to do soon. Can I kiss you?” 

“I forgot it was your day for Jack–”

He takes your face into his hand. “Doesn’t matter, honey. Kiss?” 

You close your eyes and lift your chin. Ever your prince, Aaron squeezes your cheek gently and leans in to kiss you, far warmer than you’re expecting, his thumb rubbing over your cheek with a reverence he couldn't fake if he wanted to.
