Am done revising so now I've got a new debut novel of about 96k words after splitting the og 215k one. Off to polish the new query letter and then back into those godawful trenches I go holy shit I hate this I can't wait to start I'm going to kill myself

I had zero idea there was a tv series, this is wild--it's been going for 4 years?? All I knew was that they were an infamously long and complex book series, which was enough to catch my attention--it wasn't anywhere near the top of my tbr, but it was on my radar as something I might look into more later.

I also saw another person comparing wheel of time and acod--or at least saying the author likely read it and you could occasionally see her frustration with the series in her own.

Wishing you the best of luck with the show and the reread and the drawing and the exploding--is this something I should get in on? should I put it definitively on my tbr? 👀

I saw the post about using blokada to block tumblr live on Android, and then you mentioned blocking domains. How do I block domains?

When you install Blokada 5 and launch it, there should be four tabs at the bottom of the screen. The 2nd-left tab has a symbol of three vertical bars, and when you tap on it, says Activity. From here you can view all the domains your phone is trying to connect to. Any domain that you see in green, you can tap on to add it to the Blocked list.

If you launch Tumblr then go back to the Blokada Activity tab, you should see all the domains it's trying to connect to, including ones like "auth.gateway.tumblr-live.com" (yes, your phone connects to this whenever you launch Tumblr, even if you never open the Tumblr Live page). Tap those suckers and block them! (and if they scroll out of view too quickly, use the search 🔍 at the top of the screen to filter for "tumblr" and you should see them all again.)

Ga’avan the Mighty: Writing Update

Okay, so, I don’t know how many people are aware of the state of my novel, so I’ll do a recap before I give the update.

Originally, my book was written in two arcs (mother and son), each containing two “books” (parts). But this was going to be an insufferably long novel, and a huge undertaking to write and edit and market as one.

So, the update: I have divided the arcs into separate novels. Ga’avan the Mighty now refers to the first arc, unless otherwise stated. This arc’s draft is complete—I have begun formatting it into a manuscript and preparing it for editing. This means it will hopefully find its way into an agent’s hands sooner, and hit the shelves sooner as well.

So if my content seems more focused on just the first arc, you know why. I’ll let y’all know when it’s time to be edited, and when I begin querying!

Good question! I'm not 100% on board with inviting everyone to DM me, but an option could be to send in the ref in an ask, and I wont reply to it or post it. I will @ you in the finished drawing though! That way I can still have it.

The thought is that you can still send the refrence in without it being posted. If that doesnt work, we can talk on it more!

A Query That Didn't Work

So I've been trying to sell this space pirate novel I wrote, Journey. I thought I had a pretty strong query. I sent it out to dozens of agents. It got not even a nibble.

I'm putting it here because I'm thinking about what comes next. Baen is, I think, the only major SF publisher that still accepts unagented submissions, and I've already submitted to them.

If any of my colleagues/friends/followers have suggestions for anywhere else to query before I give up and go the self-pub or serialization route, I'd appreciate it? Anyway this was the query:

"Space pirates. Here's how you get them: a corporate asteroid mining station suddenly cut off when the parent company falls to a hostile takeover. A group of hardened, desperate pilots and miners willing to seize interplanetary shipping traffic to feed their families.

And here's what happens next: A political crisis on Earth as powerful interests clash over a response to the very first acts of piracy in space. A convulsion of violence on the station as anarchy sets in. And an underground protest movement back on Earth and Luna, inspired by the pirates and their resistance as they continue to hold out.

an agent wants me to list similar books to Taste of Copper. So can anyone recommend a book with a protagonist on the asexual spectrum, that brings trouble to a realm where no one cares about the gender of your beloved but gets antsy if you like making tea because thirteen years before there was an epidemic that spread through water and dark magic just after two concurrent wars, in a setting with a soft magic system? bonus points if the main character forming a romantic connection with the love interest who's a PoC king doesn't magically erase his asexuality even if he enjoys being intimate, if there's aroace and aromantic characters, and if the whole time there's a nagging feeling that something's not adding up and multiple investigations are required. thanks everyone
