my personal headcanon for "out of the closet and now officially dating" hilson re: how they'd each identify is basically:

house: is bisexual, maaaybe uses that term every once in a while but mostly calls himself gay as an umbrella term. he especially enjoys doing this around straight people and then mentioning how much he loves boobs in the same sentence and basking in the confusion. also calls himself a fag bc we know he loves reclaiming slurs (and i think he would appreciate any word that has the potential to simultaneously upset both straight and queer people). mostly just refuses to settle on a label but feels confident in his attraction to both men and women

wilson: in contrast, this poor creature would love to be able to label himself but he cannot figure out if he's genuinely attracted to women or not. he's suffered extensively from comphet and he thinks his past marriages weren't real attraction, maybe? but amber . . . wilson feels so strongly that he really did love her and was sexually attracted to her. but all other signs point to gay! help!! he's so confused!!!

Ok, since you opened it up to AU requests from other fandoms, and since you've been TGE-posting the last two days . . . I would LOVE to see a snippet of Maia and co. (any "and co" will do, but my first choice is Csethiro or Beshelar and Cala) in a SW AU. (Also do not feel pressured to do this. I recognize it is kind of borderline on the list of what prompts you're looking for. I'm just. I think it sounds fun.)

OH MY GOSH friend. I was literally JUST thinking about this idea. Like yesterday. This is more a set up for the au than anything else but enjoy it all the same, there is a good chance I snap and write an addition later on:

When Emperor Palpatine died suddenly (from what, it was still unknown. A failure of the heart in his sleep, poison, assassination from enemies both close at hand or mysterious were all explored and summarily rejected), the Senate went into an uproar trying to determine his heir. The Empire had only been a true Empire for fifteen years—the succession rules were unclear, to say the least. There were those who campaigned for a political replacement, for a new election.

But those closest to Emperor Palpatine claimed to know his will. That his rule would be passed on to his closest kin, his half nephew. There was much murmuring over who this half nephew was. They knew of the half brother—a proud man who, unlike his fellow Nabooans, put no stock in the beauty of art and craftsmanship, but seemed to relish the art of war and profit.

However, Varenechibel (for so he was called) had died in a ship crash earlier that year, along with his three eldest sons. The fourth remained—a half human boy of eighteen, who had been raised by a distant cousin on an Outer Rim planet, safely out of the way.

He was out of the way no longer, and rumors flew thick and fast about this Maia Drazhar—whether he would be a ruler like his uncle, if the stories of his mother were true, calling the boy himself an inbred fool who would run their Empire into the ground. Very few had any faith in him, and most hoped that Mas Amedda, the Emperor’s Grand Vizier, would steer him in the right direction.

Some, like Senator Organa or Senator Berenar, seemed to hold out hope. Though when the boy himself finally appeared—tall and awkward and dark-skinned, accompanied by his scowling guardian and an elegant looking Twi’lek man who was as pale as the new Emperor was dark—hope did seem to flicker out. It would seem, it was remarked, that Mas Amedda had his puppet after all.

This all changed a month into the new Emperor’s—who, in Naboo fashion, had chosen a ruling name of Edrehasivar—rule, during which he hired two bodyguards of decidedly non-human descent, politely ignored Mas Amedda’s every suggestion, and began quietly ruling in a way that would have made Palpatine’s heart, should he have possessed one, quail with rage and horror.

The general Senate was up in arms, Bail Organa found himself positively delighted, and a young Umbaran woman, whose family was currently in negotiations of a personal sort with the Emperor, was revising her opinions rather rapidly. Csethiro Ceredin hadn’t expected much of Emperor Edrehasivar. What she had expected had been disproved, and she found she would be very interested to see what came of the Emperor’s rule.

She was far from the only one.

Maybe I don't understand part of the meaning, but I'm getting kind of bemused by the term "ethically non-monogamous" that I keep seeing people ascribe to themselves.

Like, why the "ethically"? What would be the alternative, "unethically non-monogamous"? Who would identify as that alternative?

I get that non-monogamy is still an extremely marginalized relationship style which is considered unacceptable by many, but making a habit of inserting the modifier "ethically" when describing oneself as non-monogamous comes across as, I guess, acting pre-emtively defensive?

know there’s a lot of fandom appeal in hawkeye returning home after the war and getting “proper” psychiatric treatment for [pre-existing] mental illness but frankly rewatching Dr Pierce and Mr Hyde and Give 'Em Hell Hawkeye back to back makes me feel like hawkeye returns and becomes embroiled in the antipsychiatry movement instead

because the disparity between Trapper’s fond “He’s just unstable” that ties Directly to the war’s impact on Hawkeye’s sense of empathy and morality and BJ’s derisive “I'd say there was no point in letting this drive you crazy, but I can see I'm too late” that more explicitly dismisses his behavior as being baselessly irrational and pathetic is enormous, and I think with hindsight it wouldn’t escape Hawkeye’s notice. He is a character who remained relatively unchanged over the seasons — it was the way that people began to respond to, dismiss, and pathologize* his behavior that shifted dramatically enough to make him go from being “the sanest person [Sidney] knows” to being considered “Crazy”.

*"Pathologize" doing a lot of heavy lifting here. this isn't to say that Hawkeye isn't experiencing a break in reality in GFA, he absolutely is, the Point is that there's a horror story in the insistence that his psychosis in GFA is part of a history of unstable behavior, something Internal, something Individual, something caused by His Brain, rather than being a 'reasonable' response to an utterly unreasonably horrific situation, leading to him being forced into a treatment like heavy medications or ECT because it's more Convenient to label him as an already unstable Outlier than acknowledging the political, military, and traumatic situations that he was forced into that Directly Caused his behavior, you know?

i'm stressed for the day the govt decides to make pronouns illegal, by which the law will actually be implemented as "if someone decides you don't look like the gender THEY think you are, you will be charged with a crime"

and how in some workplaces like mine, where people show their preferred pronouns in work emails, that'll result in many people with digital email trails that could get them arrested (which of course means trans people in the workplace get charged, people who look cis and use he/him and she/her in their emails to be supportive probably will just be told to stop putting it in their emails)

and like. i know i probably can't do anything, except maybe stay in the closet. i know the workplace is not guaranteed to fucking warn their employees to maybe remove the digital proof of their pronouns if there's a law at risk of existing soon. and i know people's gender identity is really personal and important to a lot of people, including cis people. But i kind of wish there was a widespread trend in these workplace situations of EVERY (or at least a majority) of cis people putting "they/them/their" in their email signatures. The cis people (particularly those who look very gender conforming) will be the ones in the least danger of being charged with a crime. They are at very low risk of being charged with a crime, so they're the perfect people to break the law by saying their preferred pronouns are "they/them" and then taking the law to court if such a law restricting preferred pronouns passes. And if a trans employee is charged with a crime, the cis employees all using they/them can say their trans coworker is only doing EXACTLY THE SAME THING ALL THESE CIS PEOPLE ARE (using a pronoun someone thinks doesn't align with the gender they're assumed to be), and then saying either ALL employees need to be charged with a crime (which can then go to court) or none of them should be. Yeah that would require solidarity... I know I can't convince a bunch of cis people to start putting "they" as a pronoun in their emails (or some other pronoun that would result in them breaking the same 'preferred pronoun' type of law like "ze/zim"). But god, I wish I could.

I think about this because in the last few years, my state tried to make a law against using preferred pronouns in schools and government jobs (you know... which likely won't charge any cis person using the pronouns that match their gender even though that's a preferred pronoun too). And now that my state govt is a majority republican, they'll probably try to pass it again. I worry about all my coworkers with massive email trails, because they were TOLD to tell people their preferred pronouns, because the workplace said it would respect them, but I doubt the workplace will Protect them if it's no longer legal. My workplace had the shittiest answer when I raised my concerns, they said "don't worry about it until it happens"... once it happens, a bunch of trans people will be breaking the law by existing, and they will not have had the chance to protect themselves in advance (and their workplace will have done nothing in advance to protect them - such as warn them not to leave proof of their preferred identity after X date, and promising the workplace won't consider any pronouns said before X date to be breaking the law as far as reporting goes).

I just want to ramble because there is no way to explain just how excited I am to get to publishing the part of Minding Q's where Nic and Chase are introduced

Because here’s the thing. Their relationship is simultaneously the most wholesome and most unhinged of anyone in the story so far, and also

Chase is literally the world's biggest jerk for his entire intro sequence. This is because Nic woke him up at 5am and told him they were going on a surprise roadtrip. "You’re driving." Imagine being stuck in a car with the most hangry and sleep-deprived person ever because that’s basically what happens.

Nic spends the entire intro being like "I SWEAR HE'S NOT ALWAYS LIKE THIS I JUST REALLY SCREWED UP THIS MORNING I PROMISE HE'S A SWEETHEART I PROMISE" while there’s this hulking used-to-be-wrestler-now-artist getting ready to kick his legs out from under him (not really but he’s thinking about it)

And then someone asks Nic why he calls Chase his companion instead of his boyfriend and it escalates to "So is it a friend thing or a romantic thing?" And that's literally the one thing that will certainly make Nic snap

Nic threatens Chase with lo-fi music

Chase threatens Nic with "I will flush your wallet down the toilet" "I will throw you into the street" "I will yeet myself out of the window if you do that again"

Chase is the only one that is allowed to carry Nic, but Nic is so tall that Chase is the only one that is actually capable of throwing carrying him

Chase is the one that cooks. Nic thinks it's funny to keep gifting him goofy aprons and yes. Yes it is funny.

Back to the intro scene. Even Sterling knows that Chase is usually a dork. a goofball, if you will. So seeing him fly off the handle in search of pancakes is very concerning. "MY COUSIN LOVES YOU SO PLEASE CALM DOWN SIR--"

Chase will not drink anything that was poured by or opened by someone other than himself. Nic knows this and keeps bottled drinks in the fridge just for Chase as well as juice boxes and Caprisuns because those are pretty hard to tamper with.

"Hey wanna play that new game you got?" "Nic, it's a single-player game." "Yes I would like to watch you play and I can keep an eye out for treasure you miss." (Ten minutes later, "WHY DIDN'T YOU PICK UP THE SHINY THING IT WAS RIGHT THERE" "NIC MY INVENTORY IS FULL")

Nic constantly having to ask Chase what he's drawing before peeking over his shoulder because Nic is SR ace and Chase draws NSFW stuff for a living

Nic coming home from work going "I got a new plant" "WHERE ARE WE GOING TO PUT THAT WE ALREADY HAVE SO MANY" and then their weekend project is building a new shelf

Chase saying things like "You need a new toothbrush." And Nic is always just like "IF YOU SAY SO???" So Chase just swaps it out with a new one when Nic’s not home.

Chase and Brooke (Nic's twin) having a phase where they are both really into bardcore music and keep playing it around the apartment and they have a bet going to see how long it takes for Nic to break

Nic and Chase know each other so well that they can order for each other without even asking. They just know. There’s never been a single panicked text saying "MAKE SURE YOU GET ME ____" when the other person is getting food. There's complete trust on that front.

Chase gets cold really easily. He chooses to fix this with hugs.

"I found a recipe for Velveeta fudge, can we try it" and Chase just stares at Nic in a brief moment of horror before going "f*ck it we ball" and grabbing his keys to go get the ingredients.

Nic makes it a hobby to find unhinged recipes for Chase to try cooking. Most of them turn out bad but they have fun making them anyways and Chase has a cast iron stomach anyways so nothing really goes to waste

"Hey Chase if I were an animal what animal would I be" "I already told you I'm not drawing you a fursona for free"

Nic going with Chase to the gym just so he can help make sure no one tries to bother him

It's the "Do you think stars have feelings" dynamic except with conspiracy theories instead.

this is really Dusk's book 2-3 design, and no I will NOT explain the face scar, but I like this hairstyle A LOT more than I like her boring-ass book 1 bob. Book 2 is when most of the Feilan dorks reach their "canon" designs, the way I picture them in my head when I talk about them.

It is very surprising that someone can hate tropes that they deemed wrong in public view if compared to real-life situations yet also follow a piece of media with the same tropes they're hating unironically, and not seeing the hypocrisy of the situation as a whole.

This is very much a common thing on Twitter where an Anti hates and even harrass other people for liking Dead Dove: Do Not Eat themes, yet they’re openly a fan of Hannibal (tv show)/Hazbin-Helluva/Homestuck/etc on their profile.

Everytime I see it, I just realize that these people are not ok at all for openly harass others into either deleting their account or following their belief, like they lost any consciousness of how to differentiate the line between fiction and reality.

Well, I am going to do something similar only with photography. This is a photo someone took for an Amazon review of their Clinique products.

Honestly, it is not a terrible photo. They did some staging. They have an interesting background. All of the labels are legible. It is properly exposed. This would be a perfectly acceptable product photo for an Etsy page.

I've been taking these advanced photography courses in preparation for whenever I am able to create a new studio in the house. And my teacher is a photography badass. I just watched a 6 hour class on how to recreate a professional Clinique ad. And at first glance it looks deceptively simple. It's just some skin care products being splashed with a little water.

Which is why I wanted you to see an average person for reference.

This is what Karl Taylor came up with.

And I don't think I've learned so much about photography in one tutorial before.

Product photography is just loads and loads of problem solving. You have to light the chrome caps with a gradient. Which requires giant diffusion scrims.

Those big white panels are literally only there for the two chrome caps.

You need a pure white background, but you can't let light spill all over the studio, so you put up giant black light blockers.

And you have to add another light just for the orange bottle on the right.

Oh, and if you want the bottles to glow, well, you have to hide a silver reflector behind them.

But you still want the edges of the bottles to be darker so they have some contrast. So you add some black tape to the sides.

And in order for the reflective labels to have bold black lettering, you have to reflect black cards into them.

Ack! Karl's beautiful bald head is showing up in the chrome caps! He must put on the naughty blanket.

And once you get every aspect of every bottle perfectly lit, you finally get to yeet some water at it all.

I don't love product photography because I have a weird obsession to help greedy corporations make their wares look more beautiful. I love it because it is a complicated and challenging new puzzle every time. Every product is a different shape and requires a different technique to make it look its best.

I don't know if I will be able to live up to Karl's standards.

This is about the level I was at in 2017 before I quit photography.

I have so much more knowledge in my brain now. I'm really hoping I can surpass that.
