NDA MPs meet in the presence of PM Modi, agenda- to win more seats in 2024 Assembly elections

On Monday, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) MPs concluded a meeting with the 2024 Lok Sabha elections as the agenda. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was present in the meeting along with Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.

MPs from all across the nation including Jharkhand, Odisha, and West Bengal attended the meeting where a target was set to contribute towards making India more developed in the next 25 years which would start with winning more seats in the Lok Sabha elections 2024.

A senior party leader, Sukanta Majumdar told the press, "Today there was a meeting of NDA MPs from Jharkhand, West Bengal and Odisha. Two videos related to each state were shown in the meeting, in one video development works done by the central govt in these states were shown and in the second video corruption done by these state governments was shown...Through this video, it was shown how development works were being done in non-BJP-ruled states with the help of the central government."

"PM Modi said that we have to win more seats this time and make India a developed country in the next 25 years...," he added.

further, he also explained how the central government tax collection for Bengal has risen to 42% since the Modi government came into power. during the UPA government, it was set at 32%.

during the meeting, a video was played that showcased the developmental plans done by the NDA government in Bengal and also the violence in West Bengal. "During the meeting, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that till now the name of UPA was associated with the corrupt policy of the UPA government such as 2G, 3G, Coalgate, jijaji scams, so now its name had been changed to I.N.D.I.A. They were not able to carry forward the name UPA so it was renamed as I.N.D.I.A. Now I.N.D.I.A is the second form of UPA and it has been made only to mislead the public," Mr Majumdar explained.

The dilution of Civil Society due to majoritarianism and bellicose nationalism

Argumentation and questioning ushers in social progress as it gives us the ability to be rational and prove the fact that the pope isn't always infallible. The 2013 incident of gangrape of a 23 year old girl, Nirbhaya ushered in a breakthrough for Indian society. It exposed an ugly picture which showed that how women are caged down in a socio-political scenario on the basis of their gender and compulsory heteronormativity. This also helped in re- amending of the Constitution as the Congress led UPA (United Progressive Alliance) introduced the new Criminal Law (Amendment) Act,2013 in order to bring more stringent punishments for heinous offences.

May 2023- A harrowing portrait of how gender discrimination/misogyny and the horrors of patriarchy continue to plague the Indian society. Acclaimed and medal winning wrestlers are strenuously protesting against the Wrestling Federation of India chief and BJP MLA , Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh on grounds of sexual misconduct of female wrestlers including a minor . But still the voices of the wrestlers continue to be unheard as the authorities have taken no action to apprehend Singh. What's shocking is that the Civil Societies are keeping silent due to the institutionalised corruption creeping in.Thus though the events had a significant potential for mass mobilization , they failed to provoke the systematically desensitised hoi polloi. In the current era , protesting or even questioning are being deemed as ,"anti-national" and once again the ugly aspects of exclusive nationalism that the internationalist par excellence, Rabindranath Tagore had warned about ( i.e. prevention of consciousness about the sense of separation of one's own people from others) is sadly coming true.

Thus , I would like to end this on a positive note by quoting the bard, Rabindranath Tagore ," I will not buy glass for the price of diamonds and I will never allow patriotism to triumph over humanity as long as I live."

3. Gene Deitch

From an early age Gene Deitch has had an interest in drawing and considered Walt Disney and Jim Flora to be his main graphic influences.

He first started out as a technical illustrator at North American Aviation, he later got a side project to draw cover illustrations and interior comics for a jazz magazine, The Record Changer.

Deitch started working at the animation studio, UPA as a creative director of Terrytoons and created characters such as Sidney the Elephant, Tom Terrific, Clint Clobber and Gaston Le Crayon.

He collaborated with Zdeňka Najmanová on the animated short based on the children's novel Munro, which is about a boy who mistakenly enroll in the American army without nobody realizing his age. He also collaborated with Rembrandt films to direct Popeye and Tom and Jerry intended for television.

In Tom and Jerry, Deitch created a new owner for Tom called Clint Clobber and also gave an unintentional surreal tone to their version of the series. The animation was simple and jerky with angular backgrounds that lacked depth. With many gags mistimed and dialogues replaced by gibberish, the cat and mouse duo was also often found in different contexts from their original domestic setting, the viewers had not reacted well due to the drastic reimagining.

His Academy Award winning creation, Munro was inspired by his time in the US military. He decided to find a unique way of attacking the morally corrupt institution while actually making an impact. Which led him to make a deceptively sweet film about the pernicious machinations of war.

Deitch had explained: “I came up with the story of Munro because I understood that if you’re really in a rage and really want to attack someone in cartoon form, the least effective way is to jump up and down and scream and yell and to be polemical—something a lot of cartoonists have never learned. The best way is to go in the other direction and feign innocence, and bring the reader along in a quiet way."

Over the years, Deitch co-adapted other children's books and novels into animated cartoons such as; Crockett Johnson's 'A Picture for Harold's Room' (1971) and 'Harold's Fairy Tale' (1974), Isaac Bashevis Singer's 'Zlateh the Goat' (1973) etc.

"Nothing For BJP To Hide, Nothing To Be Afraid Of": Amit Shah On Adani Row

The Hindenburg-Adani row has turned into a major political controversy with the Congress and other opposition parties making allegations of favouritism.

New Delhi: With the opposition targeting the BJP-led government over the Hindenburg-Adani row, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has said that it will not be appropriate for him to comment as the Supreme Court has taken cognizance of the matter but there is nothing "for the BJP to hide or be afraid of".

"The Supreme Court has taken cognizance of the matter. As a minister, if the Supreme Court is seized of the matter it is not right for me to comment. But in this, there is nothing for the BJP to hide and nothing to be afraid of," Mr Shah said in an exclusive interview with ANI.

The Hindenburg-Adani row has turned into a major political controversy with the Congress and other opposition parties making allegations of favouritism and crony capitalism against the government. They raised the issue during the budget session of parliament demanding a joint parliamentary committee probe. 

The opposition parties have also targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the issue.

They have sought questions over the investment of LIC and some public sector banks in the Adani group. The government has rejected the allegations with PSUs and regulatory bodies also issuing statements about their following the norms and acting to their mandates.

The Centre on Monday informed the Supreme Court that SEBI had agreed to constitute a committee to protect investor interests following Hindenburg's report on Adani Group.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta informed a bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud that SEBI is completely equipped to deal with the situation that took place due to a recent report by Hindenburg Research.

Mehta also said that the government has no objection to appointing a committee to suggest how to ensure investors are protected in the future. However, he said that remit of the committee is important since it has an effect internationally and that the government will provide names in a sealed cover.

Asked about Rahul Gandhi's recent speech in Lok Sabha, which was almost entirely concerned the Adani group, Mr Shah said it is for the Congress leader or his script writers to decide what speech he wants to give.

"What speech he wants to give is for him or his speech writers to think," he said.

Reacting to Rahul Gandhi's "crony capitalism" allegation against BJP, Mr Shah said. "There is no question. Nobody has been able to level such allegation against the BJP till date. During their (Congress) era, agencies be it CAG or CBI, they had registered cases taking cognizance of corruption. There were scams of ₹ 12 lakh crore."

Asked about allegations of Congress and other opposition parties of BJP "capturing institutions", Mr Shah said they should go to the court noting that courts are not under influence of BJP. "Court 'humare kabze mein nahi hai," he said.

"Why don't they go to the court? Even at the time when Pegasus issue was raised, I had said go with proofs to the court...They only know how to create noise. Those who approached the court, the court took cognizance of Pegasus and also delivered its judgement. The investigation was also done," he added.

Asked about BJP spokespersons indicating that there is such "conspiracy" ahead of elections, he said it is for them to reply.

"Thousands of conspiracies cannot harm the truth. Truth shines bright like the sun. They have been doing it since 2002 against PM Narendra Modi. And every time, he has emerged stronger, truthfully and by gaining more popularity among people every time," he said when asked if there is a conspiracy in the wake of Hindenburg report and BBC documentary.

 Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his speech at the Lok Sabha in reply to the debate on the motion of thanks on the President's address had lashed out at the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre, saying that it converted "every opportunity into a crisis" during its 10 years at the helm between 2004 and 2014. PM Modi said UPA's term at the helm between 2004 and 2014 was "full of scams".
