Rough Draft

I know this place. I know it well… It is where…when left alone, my ideas go to die. Their haggard bodies litter the ground here conceived while showering, or doing busy-work… or just before I fall asleep only to dissipate like most all dreams do. It’s only been a few days since I last wrote something new, but already I can feel the words trying to slip away from me falling between my weary fingers like grains of sand sliding through an hourglass. Taunting me as the seconds grow, one by one until they morph all at once into an endless silence, enveloping the space around me and stealing away all but the sounds of my breath as it echoes softly. Audible, yet still saying nothing like this damnable blinking cursor on my word-pad. Were it only so easy, as making this cursor move. I could let myself fall asleep and lie my head down on my keyboard spilling my dreams onto the page as the weight of my skull is cradled by the soft pillows of depressed keys. Tearing the white away one drooling, snoring, tossing and turning letter at a time. Written 9/8/2024 @ 10:12pm by Alexander Learmont https://www.patreon.com/Elysianwing

Find Your Language: More than Words
1. Language as More Than Words
The idea that language isn’t just spoken words but also music, writing, gestures, or even movement is something that Helen Keller’s story embodies. Anna Sullivan didn’t just teach Helen words; she connected her to meaning, experience, and expression. Similarly, Simon Sinek and Jacob Collier talk about how language can be fluid—whether it’s leadership, music, or storytelling. Shel Silverstein’s books use playful language to convey profound ideas to children, making complex thoughts feel simple.
2. The Polyglot Mind & Multitasking Creativity
People who are polyglots or multitalented often think in layers. They don’t see learning new things as separate—everything connects. They also tend to be more playful with knowledge, testing things in new ways rather than following one rigid approach. If we're envious of our polyglot friend, maybe instead of seeing it as an unattainable skill, think of how you can approach your own learning with that same sense of curiosity and play.
3. Stagnation, Burnout & Consistency
There’s a balance between "enjoying what you do so it doesn’t feel like work" and needing breaks because even passion can be exhausting. Even people who love their work need to step back sometimes to refresh their minds. Some strategies to maintain joy in the creative process:
Micro-challenges: Instead of expecting constant big breakthroughs, set tiny experiments (e.g., if you’re writing, try writing in a different style).
Change environments: A new space, a new tool, or a different medium can break stagnation.
Constraints boost creativity: Some of the best ideas come from limits. When you have "too much freedom," things can feel aimless.
4. How to Generate New Ideas & Not Just Repeat Past Successes
This is the Picasso vs. Branding dilemma—do you keep evolving, or stick to a niche? True innovators experiment. Even people known for one thing often had hidden creative phases. Da Vinci painted, but he was also an inventor. Picasso had multiple artistic periods. If you want to avoid being stuck in repetition:
Combine unrelated ideas (e.g., how Jacob Collier blends classical theory with electronic music).
Question assumptions—why do we do things a certain way? Can it be flipped?
Learn from other fields—many breakthroughs happen when concepts from one industry are applied to another.
So, for you—what’s something you love but feel stuck in? What do you want to express but aren’t sure how yet?
5.Order & Chaos: The Dance Between Structure and Creativity
Order and Chaos are inseparable. They’re not opposites but two sides of the same coin, like yin and yang.
Too much order → rigidity, boredom, lack of creativity. (Think of a song with no variation or a workplace with strict rules that kill innovation.)
Too much chaos → confusion, overwhelm, lack of progress. (If a musician only improvises with no structure, the song might not make sense.)
The best creativity comes from structured freedom—where there’s just enough order to give direction but enough chaos to allow surprises.
Even in art, music, and writing:
Picasso learned classical techniques before breaking the rules.
Jacob Collier plays with harmony in ways that seem chaotic but have deep logic behind them.
Writers often brainstorm wildly, then refine into a structured story.

I find myself this evening, horrified. My fingers are at the keyboard, my pen at the page, but the words do not come. The last of my wealth, I seem to have lost. It is a death that warrants my mourning.

Honestly it kind of fits! Spoiler: the song is about the ups and downs of life and uh...you can count this to be either or tbh!
In all seriousness, I could use some ideas please! I had a few, but none of them turned out well...hence me today haha! 😆
Shoot me some! Anything you've got! 😎 BONUS SIDE NOTE: You know I was going to be cooking myself when the first idea I had was to draw a sandwich 💀💀

How Often Can You Ask Is This OK?”: A Tragicomedy in Fifteen Acts (and Counting)
Slide 1: “Is this OK?”
Slide 2: “And this one?”
Slide 3: “Still OK?”
Slide 4: “What if I moved this three pixels to the left? Is that OK?”
Slide 5: “Do you think this shade of off-beige reflects my learning journey?”
Darling, we see you. We hear you. We recognise your fragile grip on confidence and your deep-rooted fear of doing it “wrong.” But here’s the thing: we didn’t sign up to be your artistic emotional support animal.
Occasional check-ins? Great. Sensible. Encouraged, even.
A frantic email after every design choice like you’re trying to unlock a Choose Your Own Adventure ending? Less so.
At some point, you must choose your own adventure. That’s kind of the point of creative education. Take a risk. Make a decision. Own it. Worst-case scenario? You learn something. Best case? You create something brilliant. But asking “What should I do next?” after every breath is not the same as progressing. It’s just outsourcing your courage.
You are capable. You do have ideas. Now kindly stop peering nervously over our shoulder every 20 minutes like a Regency heroine waiting for a proposal. Be bold. Be wrong. Be brilliant. Just be something.

The Opal Vision
Navya was a dreamer. Open-minded young woman full of creativity and ideas. Life turned out to be chaotic and dim. Until one day, during a very quiet walk outside, she came to the conclusion that her art was something that saved her; it was time to make up for something that made her feel alive, and she chose opal stone.

Finding Your Art Style: Our Messy, Beautiful Journey
Hey Tumblr fam! We've been on this wild ride of trying to find "our style" and thought we'd share some raw notes from the journey. Remember when we used to think we could force a style to happen overnight? Yeah... we learned that one the hard way! 😅
The past year has been filled with sketchbooks, happy accidents, and moments of both "this is terrible" and "wait, I might be onto something here!" We've discovered that style isn't something you chase—it's something that emerges when you're busy making things that excite you.
One of the biggest game-changers? Our 100 drawings challenge. Those first few sketches were so predictable, but by day 25, we started seeing patterns we never consciously created. There's something magical about creating without overthinking.
We've compiled everything we've learned (so far!) in our latest blog post—from building mood boards that actually help to embracing the "mistakes" that eventually became our signature elements. Because we're all figuring this out together, right?
What about you? What unexpected elements have become part of your creative DNA? Drop your experiences below—we'd love to see where you are in your journey!
Remember: We're not experts—just fellow artists documenting our process. The style journey never really ends, and that's kind of the beautiful part.

If your creativity has felt… stuck lately, like something’s gone quiet or shut down — please know this: It’s probably not because you’re “lazy.” Or uninspired. Or doing it wrong. It might just be that your energy is leaking. And your creative spark is trying to survive. Because creativity needs room. It needs safety. It needs to trust that it’s okay to take up space, without being interrupted, guilt-tripped, or pushed aside. And when you’re always holding everyone else’s emotions, when your days are full of invisible obligations, when your “yes” is louder than your “no”... Your body knows. Your spirit knows. And sometimes, your creative flow just… disappears. Not because it’s gone — but because it’s protecting itself. Inside Worthy & Rising, our free community, we’re exploring this tender territory together. This month’s theme is Sacred Boundaries — and we’re already seeing how much more creative we feel when our energy is ours again. We’re also reading The Four Agreements in our rebel book club — a soul-reset for the recovering people-pleasers and gentle creatives who are ready to come home to themselves. If your creative magic feels like it’s hiding… Maybe it’s waiting for you to come back to you. 🌙 Link to join:

Section 2: What Blocks Creativity?
Creativity can be hindered by various factors that exert their influence on our minds and inhibit our artistic flow. Consider the following obstacles: - Fear of failure: This crippling fear stifles our willingness to take risks and explore uncharted territories. It confines us within our comfort zones, hindering the free flow of our creative ideas. - Perfectionism: The relentless pursuit of flawlessness can lead to self-imposed limitations and overwhelming pressure. Instead of embracing imperfections as stepping stones to growth, perfectionism breeds self-doubt and restricts our ability to think outside the box. - Negative self-talk: The constant stream of self-criticism and self-judgment saps our confidence and undermines our creative potential. Doubts planted by negative self-talk hinder the flourishing of our ideas before they even have a chance to blossom. Reflecting on personal experiences, there have been moments when fear of failure has left me paralyzed, leading to project abandonment or hesitancy in sharing my creations. Likewise, the pursuit of perfection has trapped me in a cycle of endless revisions and self-critique, obstructing the natural flow of my creativity. Negative self-talk has whispered doubts, questioning the worthiness of my ideas and dampening my enthusiasm. To overcome these blocks and nurture a mindset that fosters creativity, it is crucial to recognize their influence. In the subsequent sections, we will explore effective strategies that empower us to dismantle these hindrances. Together, let us break free from the chains that bind our artistic spirit and embark on a path of limitless possibilities.
Section 3: Strategies for Unlocking Creativity
To unlock your creativity, consider implementing the following strategies: - Become more mindful: Cultivate a heightened awareness of your thoughts and emotions, understanding how they influence your creative process. This self-awareness allows you to navigate and harness your inner thoughts effectively. - Take risks: Step outside your comfort zone and embrace new avenues, regardless of doubts about your proficiency. Embracing uncertainty and pushing beyond perceived limits can lead to surprising and innovative outcomes. - Allocate dedicated time for creativity: Even a few minutes each day can make a significant difference. Carve out a sacred space for your artistic endeavors, where you can freely explore ideas and let your imagination roam free. - Surround yourself with inspiration: Gather images, quotes, and other materials that resonate with your artistic sensibilities. These sources of inspiration will serve as a wellspring of motivation and ideas, guiding you towards fresh concepts and perspectives. - Collaborate with other creatives: Share your ideas and seek feedback from like-minded individuals. Collaborative efforts foster camaraderie and provide diverse viewpoints and insights that can push your creative boundaries and ignite new ideas. By implementing these strategies, you can gradually dismantle the barriers inhibiting your creativity, paving the way for self-expression and artistic growth. In the subsequent sections, we will delve deeper into each of these strategies, providing practical tips and techniques to incorporate them into your daily life. Embark on this transformative journey of unlocking your creativity, guided by these effective strategies.
Section 4: Overcoming Creative Blocks
When faced with a creative block, there are effective strategies to overcome the impasse. Consider the following approaches: - Take a break from your work: Stepping away from the task at hand allows your mind to rest and rejuvenate. It creates space for fresh ideas to emerge and often leads to moments of inspiration and breakthroughs. - Change your environment: Engage in activities like going for a walk, listening to music, or immersing yourself in different surroundings. This helps clear your mind and fosters a shift in perspective, stimulating your senses and inviting new stimuli that can ignite your creativity. - Talk to someone: Share your struggles and seek guidance from a friend, family member, or therapist. Conversations about your creative block can provide valuable support and insights, alleviating the mental burdens that hinder your artistic flow. Gain fresh perspectives and receive encouragement that propels you forward. - Experiment with new techniques and approaches: Break free from routine by trying different methods in your work. Embrace a mindset of curiosity and playfulness, allowing for the discovery of unexpected pathways and sparks of innovation. By employing these strategies, you can dismantle the barriers that impede your creative expression. In the following sections, we will explore each approach in greater detail, offering practical tips and techniques to aid you in overcoming creative blocks. Embark on this journey of liberation, unravel the knots that restrain your inner artist, and reignite the flames of your imagination.
Section 5: Conclusion
In conclusion, this blog has explored strategies for unlocking your creativity and embracing your inner artist.
