What was the deal with that Thomas cosplayer? Was she weird about Sharpecest?

Listen, my children, and you shall hear, etc.

so I've told this story before, but what the hell; it's on my mind. about two years ago when I finished my Lucille park dress cosplay, I posted the pics on Instagram and a makeup artist reached out to me. she'd done some genuinely cool ghost Thomas looks, and wanted to chat about CPeak cosplay. nice! she said some very kind things about my dress. excellent!

...and then immediately segued into bashing Lucille

now, you don't have to like any character. you don't even have to like them to compliment a cosplay! "oh that looks really cool" is fine even if you despise this character unto the flaming depths of Tartarus and back! but. you probably should not start harping on about how much you despise them to someone who just put in months of work to recreate their clothing

I kept trying to redirect the conversation. she kept dragging it back to Lucille Bad. the one exchange I remember distinctly was this:

Her: this is my rabbit! Me: oh, so cute! what's their name? Her: Lucille would never let Thomas have a rabbit. she probably hates it when he's happy :(

I just. no idea. not a single clue.

this went on for a while- "he should have just left her in the asylum! she's the absolute worst!" -before I finally tried to politely ask that she not do it anymore. I figured she might not know the etiquette, so I said it was generally not appropriate to bash a character to someone cosplaying them

wrong thing to say. this touched off a rant about how "female cosplayers" were the worst (cannot emphasize enough that she was a woman exclusively posting videos of Tom Hiddleston characters SFX makeup) and I was trying to force her to the character. cue blocking. The End

...sometimes I still think about the rabbit thing, though

I made Edith's Nightgown from Crimson Peak ✨

I did not use a pattern for this, I did however take some notes. The neckpiece and the body are seperate (just to make it easier to get into). I used a little less than 10m of chiffon (which I randomly found in my fabric stash lol), some lace I had lying around, a buttonhole ribbon and some pearl buttons both of which I got on Amazon. Would definitely recommend at least 10m of fabric if not more for ultimate ruffliness.

The neckpiece was made by cutting out four 70cm circles with a 10cm hole in the middle and sewing those together to form one big long ruffle. I then sewed four parallel lines, with super long stitches and bunched up the fabric to create the ruffle effect. I left the bottom of the neckpiece raw, just because I think it adds a bit of texture. Then I sewed on a buttonhole ribbon and the lil pearl buttons (which I got from amazon).

The body is just a 170cm wide and 150cm long piece and a 170cm x 170cm long piece sewn together, ruffled at the top and with a band of elastic sewn on. The nightgown does have a train so I cut a lil curve into the bottom of the longest piece.

The biggest challenge was the sleeve. Chiffon doesnt hold it's shape very well, so I mixed together some starching fluid (boiled starch and water) and ironed the hell out of it. The bottom of the sleeve I deliberately cut way too long so I could ruffle it. Last thing I did was add some lace to the cuffs. I probably would do a few things differently next time but I'm happy with how it came out. Now I just need a white wig lol ^^

I MET TOM TODAY!! I wish i had more time with him but OMG HES SO TALL IRL

My group lined up a little before 1:10pm, and even after that we still had to wait like half an hour. The process of getting all the fans into the curtained area was very rapid but efficient and it went by so fast!! I kind of blacked out and couldnt look at him for too long. Like looking at the sun. He was so TALL and kinda quiet lol. I asked if i can hug him and he was like "sure" and i was like "thank you for being here" and he was like "yup" LOL. I was a little disappointed but he's probably really tired and has to see thousands of people every day, and unfortunately, the event staff really do try to rush people out of there to keep the lines moving and to get more people in and out of the ops in a timely manner. I wish i had done another pose since he looks a little more reserved and I look awkward but its understandable lol. Fun fact I saw two girls in line to meet him cosplaying as Edith from Crimson Peak which I thought was great. LOTS of Loki/TVA cosplays. Got a lot of comments on mine, not pictured but I had the little gator Loki on my shoulder and my little helm I made from craft foam.

But omg,,, after so many years of loving this man I FINALLY got to meet him in person!!! I will never forget it!

Also going to just comment on tumblr itself. We all joke about it being a hellsite but it is one of the only places I still feel like I can make posts just because I want to and not have to consciously think about how to strategically post something.

And I find I get actual, real life engagement and reach with real people. It just overall feels more genuine and I appreciate our little hellsite (affectionate).

Last movie: Last movie I intentionally sat down to watch or last movie that was on in my general vicinity? I guess I'll answer both since I'm not sure. I think the last movie I watched on purpose was Crimson Peak (2015) for research because I'm trying to plot out a gothic romance AU fic. And the last movie that was on in my general vicinity was Chopping Mall (1986) because my partner loves off-beat old horror movies. I've seen House on Haunted Hill (1958) more than I've seen any other movie because of this.

Sweet/spicy/savoury: I have a strong sweet tooth (ADHD craves easy dopamine sources) but I do really like savory things too.

Currently working on: the chapter past the current one of Scars of Silver and Gold; a series of non-continuous but interconnected drabbles about Melkor's time imprisoned by the Valar; a Nienna cosplay for a con next month (concern).

“Making A Crimson Peak Inspired Robe” by Madame Absinthe

Watch along as me and Mary re-create the robe from the beautiful gothic horror movie Guillermo del Toro's Crimson Peak! I watched it for the first time and just absolutely adored Edith's robes and all of the fashion and costuming in Crimson Peak. Mary ordered the McCall's Cosplay Ladies Sewing Pattern 2053 Spectral Robe & Nightgown.
