Since Aemond confessed to the small council of the horrible accident, the meetings were tense, and almost awkward. 

He had gained a seat in it, alongside his brother, the King. Aegon had to be dragged to attendance, sometimes suffering the spoils of the night before where he indulged in wine and sex. Since he rose to power he didn’t even bother in leaving the Keep, he just brought his ladies from the skin trade and his other vices to the Keep through secret passageways and sometimes he wouldn’t even bother in hiding them. 

“Had the Blacks declared war yet?”, asked Aegon, playing with the dragoneye in front of him

“No”, Otto muttered, their silence was terrifying. They expected a full scale attack, they were sighting the skies for enemies every hour. But the silence was worse. They had been 

“What about the ravens we have sent?”, asked Alicent 

“We received letters from all over the Kingdoms”, said the Hand with a smile, “Ha! see? a letter from the North, already the lords of the seven Kingdoms are falling in line”, claimed Otto, removing the seal and opening the letter. Alicent had a pleased and content smile on her face. But at seeing his father’s grin change suddenly, panic quickly settled in

“What? What is it?” she asked, Aegon raised his gaze as well to look at his grandfather

“They recognized Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen as the legitimate Queen of the seven Kingdoms” he said, reading. 

“What?”

“They left it clear that they bend the knee, recognizing her as the legitimate heir to the Iron Throne”, he continued, “Furthermore, they know about the death of the princess and they…”, he swallowed hard

“What?”, asked Alicent

“They considered it an act of war, they called their bannermen, they are gathering the northern army to march south”, Alicent opened her eyes widely

“They won’t dare go this far south”, she said

“Once they meet with the Knights of the Vale, they will”, Otto said, “the northerners went ahead even more, they repudiate the ascension of Aegon the drunk, calling him a usurper”, he said firmly

“They would wage war against the crown?” she asked, indignant

“...Against the usurper”, he called, “That wretched princess whored his sons to Cregan Stark, it has to be” she muttered

“They loved each other since they were children”, said Alicent. They were interrupted by a guard, who entered solemnly, guiding a maester, a letter in his hand

“Lord Hand, a letter from Dorne”, he said, delivering the letter a making a bow, and then abandoning the room

“Let’s see”, he opened the letter and read attentively, and then his face showed that it wasn't good news either. “We don’t with dance dragons” he muttered, “But Dorne recognizes no King, but Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen, and will not recognize the rule of the Usurper Aegon the drunk”, he spitted out, “For the Princess’ death, we will collect every soldier that crosses the border and sink every ship that dares to cross our shores”, he read

“Gods be good”, cried the Queen, “what about Highgarden? and Riverrun?”

“No news of highgarden, the Riverlands are of the Strongs and the Tullys, both houses are Black”

“So…” muttered Aegon, who was suffering the consequences of the exploits of the night before, “We don’t have the North… we don’t have the Vale, of course we don’t have the Riverlands because of the Strongs… We don’t have Dorne either” 

“We have the Stormlands” mutter the Queen, “We might have the Reach, we have the Westerlands”

“We haven’t got word from The Reach” muttered Otto, “They keep this Kingdom’s food in their storages, we do not risk in involving them, they will stay at the sidelines, as they had always done”, but then he smiled, “but we have Oldtown, they had been preparing their army for years”, Alicent looked at him with warning. 

“We can’t leave the castle because they have the city watch, mother”, murmured Aegon, “One step out of the keep and we are dead”

“THIS IS YOURS BY RIGHT!” she snapped, “VISERYS…” and then she got quiet, “wanted you to be King, this is your birthright” she continued, in her eyes unshed tears, “the Gods are with us”

“They Gods don’t have armies”, said Aemond

“You killed the only person that was preventing the blacks from coming for our heads”, said Tyland, “Rhaenyra doesn’t give a shit about Aemma, Daemon won’t hesitate to throw the entire country into war”. 

“Yes, Aemma…”, said Otto, “the only valuable asset we have, she is the key to the Riverlands, Harwin is still alive, as are their brothers, three grown dragons…” 

“Wed her to me”, said Aemond

“Before she found out what you did?”, laughs Aegon

“Yes”

“It could be a good idea”, muttered Tyland. Larys only looked at everything with a shy smile

“How long until our army is here?”, asked Alicent

“It could be months, but the Baratheons are preparing as we speak”, said Otto, “and we have the royal army”

“If the City watch takes arms against them it could mean a civil war”, said Alicent 

“What news of Harrenhal?”, asked Alicent to Larys

“It’s been quiet, my brother hasn't call for his banners yet”, he said with that unsettling smile

“He must be in mourning”, whispered Alicent

“We could take the advantage”, said Tyland, “Harrenhal is essential, is a great garrison to gather a large force, and the closest to King’s Landing”

“I agree”, said Otto, looking right at Aemond, “we need Harrenhal”, Aemond knew his grandfather was speaking directly to him. He understood his role, he was the dragon rider with the biggest dragon, the one that was dispensable, his brother was King and his sweet sister, she couldn’t ride to war.

So he was the chosen one

To fly into battle and destroy his family, the family that he had come to love. Perhaps he could speak with Aemma, perhaps he could talk to Rhaegar and Maekar, and. He drew a sharp breath, he had killed their mother, they would kill him in sight, or try to. He wouldn’t be able to bear to kill his nephews.

“We will find the most suited commander to lead the forces from the capital to take Harrenhal”, said Otto. 

Perhaps Aemond killing the Princess wasn’t so bad, it’s like the cut the head of the dangerous dragon. Well, the dragon did have another two heads, two chaotic, restless mindless heads… Daemon and Rhaenyra will eat each other first.

“In Harrenhal we don’t have more than a thousand men, but as soon as Daemon reaches Riverrun we are expected to gather the entirety of the Riverland army”, told Harwin pointing at the map, “But I’m worried about those little towns in the path of the Lannister army, we will have to guard them, either way, when we secure the Neck The northers and the army from the Vale will gather easily, when we gather that force we will destroy everything in our path”, said Harwin, sure of his word

“But if we gather all the forces, it will be easier for a dragon, Vhagar, to burn them all”, observed another 

“Yes, it would be wise to keep them separated”, said Rhaenyra

“Lord Borros has allied with the Greens”, said Daemon

“So it looks like the North against the South”, muttered Rhaenyra

“We need to find a way to block The Lannisters from joining King’s Landing Army”

“The Riverland army seems to be the obvious choice”

“So Harwin, I need you to call in your bannermen”, said Daemon, “we need you in the Riverlands”

“I will…”

“No!”, said Rhaenyra, calling the attention of everyone there, “It’s too dangerous”, Daemon wouldn’t miss how Rhaenyra grabbed his hand. But Harwin retracted his hand from hers

“This is what I need to do”, he said firmly, “this is how we fuck them up, I want theirs heads in spikes”

“Don’t we all”, said Daemon, looking at him, amused. 

Meanwhile, in another room in the castle

“This shit is ridiculous”, growled Crestan, as he packed the few belongings he had on his bag, “I’m going to look for her and nobody is stopping me, fuck this shit!”, he mumbled to himself, “Like hell they will burn me, they don’t know shit!”. He grabbed his sack and threw it over hsi shoulders

Great dragon lords these ones, not even a scout to search for her!

He will take matters into his own hands

He managed to exit the castle without being bothered, and now he was walking towards the small village, crossing it to get to the dock.

But before he could reach his boat, I mean, ship, he was intercepted by none other than Daemon himself

“Where are you going?”, he asked

“To search for her”, he answered plainly

“If you sneak me into King’s Landing I will let you leave”, he said, his hands grasping his famous Valyrian Steel sword, Dark sister

“King’s Landing? Are you insane?”, he asked. Daemon just shook his head

“Speak nothing of it, and you will be able to leave this gods forsaken island never to return”, he said firmly

“So the only thing I have to do is take you to King’s Landing?”, Daemon nodded, “Well, raise the anchors”, he said with a mocking smile

“What are you going to do there?”, he asked

“A nephew for a niece”, he cryptically said

In Winterfell, the castle was on high alert, all the Lords and ladies had returned home to gather their men, and soon they would all march and gather all of their force in Moat Cailin. And then, wreak havoc in the Capital.

They knew the Riverlands belonged to the blacks, so they didn’t quite know who they were going to face. It was expected that small towns could rise against their lord in allegiance to the Usurper, but still. 

Maekar and Rhaegar had stood alongside Cregan, and the man trusted them with everything regarding the preparations for the march. They had reports of all the Lord and Ladies ready to march from their homes, so clearly Winterfell and all the towns around it had gathered their men and were preparing to depart.

Maekar grabbed his brother and took him to the God’s Wood, so they could have a proper conversation, alone. 

“I spoken to Cregan, and i made a decision”, he said

“You made a decision?”, Rhaegar asked

“We both are parting ways”, he said firmly. and Rhaegar looked at him, angry 

“But mom said…”

“Mom is gone”, he said firmly, “she might be gone for good, or she might be in some distant beach, washed up on some shore, but right now, she isn’t here”

“What should we do, then?”, asked Rhaegar 

“What is the first place those fuckers are going to try and take?” Maekar tried to reason with his brother. “They are going to Harrenhal, that one-eye bastard on that fucking flying dinosaur and I have to be there with our father”

“We are going, then”

“No, you are staying here”

“I’m not letting you leave to go fighting and probably dying, while I stay here doing nothing!”, he fought back

“You are not doing nothing, you will stay with Lord Cregan, and march South with him and his army” 

“But…”

“They are our allies”, he sentenced, “they are going south, they are putting their lives at risk for us, for our cause, for mom, you and Karnax are going to guard them and protect them” 

“You are going to die”, he said firmly, “you cannot face Vhagar alone”

“I probably won’t be alone, there is Daemon, and Rhaenyra, and Jace, and Luke, they all have dragons, together we will defeat Vhagar”, he said, sure of his words but not truly believing them, he pictured many members of their family flying into the battlefield atop their dragons, Aunt Rhaenyra wasn’t one of them

“We will meet in Harrenhal then, but you have to promise me one thing”

“Yes”

“You will call for me, whatever happens”

“Very well”, and Maekar offered his arm, and Rhaegar grabbed his forearm and his twin did the same.

“Good luck brother”

“Don’t fucking die”, said Rhaegar, “Or I will kill you”

“How are you going to kill me if…”

“Shut up”

It was hard for them both, they were the oldest of the siblings, they had a responsibility, and that responsibility was their two baby brother and sister. They were too small to understand what was going on, so they couldn’t quite explain it, but, they couldn’t just leave and abandon them

“Will you be good?”, asked Maekar to both children, and they nodded

“Why is everyone leaving?”, Asked Saera

“We have to go to King’s Landing”, said Rhaegar

“Why? Can we go with you?”

“You must stay here”

“Where is mama and papa?”, asked Vaegor

“They are in Dragonstone with aunt Rhaenyra”, they didn’t have the heart to tell them you had perished, not yet.

“You have to stay here, and be nice”, demanded Maekar

“When mama and papa are going to come?”, asked Saera

“Soon we will all come back, and then we will go home”, said Rhaegar, “but right now you have to stay here”

They weren’t proud of abandoning their little siblings, but they did know that this was the safest palace of all, that here they were going to be safe, war was no place for children, Dragonstone was the enclave of The Blacks, sooner or later the war was going to reach it. 

Leaving Saera and Vaegor they got out of the castle, ready to part ways, the entirety of the Stark family and the rest of their court was outside, to say goodbye to the men that were going to war. Rhaegar went straight to his betrothed, as Maekar walked towards Cregan to let him know of his decision 

“My brother will guard your march, I have to go ahead and go to Harrenahl, my father is going that way”, Cregan nodded

“Be careful boy”, he answered, I’ll see you in three weeks time

“If we fail, can you promise me you’ll retake Harrenhal?”, he asked hopefully, Cregan only smiled

“I promise”

“When I’m back from war”, Rhaegar said gently, “I’m coming back for you”, he said sweetly, she slapped his chest playfully

“You better Southerner”, she warned cheekily, “I’ll be waiting for you”, Rhaegar smiled

“When I’m back, we will marry”, he said and she smiled and nodded, “and in your belly you will carry the most beautiful girl”, he whispered, making her blush

“And then the strongest boy”, she continued. Rhaegar stole another kiss from his betrothed, “Where will we live?”, she asked

“Wherever you want”, he offered, “we could stay here, or we could go South, to the Whitehall”

“I’d love that”, she said

“Very well”, he leaned in and kissed her again, “Can I ask you to…”

“I will take care of your siblings”, she said with a wide smile

“I love you”

So with sweet words and hopeful promises, Maekar flied towards Harrenhal on Aerion, while Rhaegar rode his horse at Cregan’s side, his dragon Karnax flying above them

They sat Aemma in the small council meeting, she looked at all of them there, Queen Alicent, Otto Hightower, Aegon and Aemond 

“We want you to write a letter”, said Alicent. “to your family in Dragonstone”

“And what will I write in that letter?”, she asked in a whisper

“That your wish is to avoid the war”, she said, “that you want to return to your family and for doing so, the armies that had gathered against us will dissolve”

“The war is breaking out?”, she asked, with her big eyes wide open

“Yes”, said Otto, “but it is not too late, write this letter for your aunt…”

“I’m not comfortable with this”, she said

“I don’t give a shit!”, jumped Aegon, “write the fucking letter!”

“Aegon!”, called Alicent. Aemond placed a hand on Aemma’s back making her jump

“This could be very helpful”, he said in a whisper, “we want to avoid bloodshed, we want to avoid war”

“If you wanted to avoid war you shouldn't have usurped a throne”, she said looking back at him

“We didn’t usurp it”, said Alicent, “this is King Viserys last will”

“Oh I bet it was”, she mocked, she slid the piece of paper and the quill back to Alicent across the table, “you are not going to use me”

“She is right mother, perhaps we should send Rhaenyra and Harwin a finger or one of her ears”, Aegon mocked. Aemma jumped backwards trying to get away from him

“Ser Criston, escort Princess Amena back to her chambers”, commanded Otto and he, with a complaint smile, did.

Criston Cole looked at the princess, disgusted, he loaded the young princess, why?, because he recognizes the type in her, the type of girl that would bewitch a good man such as Aemond, and drag him to damnation, and to forget his vows, just like princess Rhaenyra. She seems all sweet and good, but he knew better

When she left, Alicent took a long sigh

“You will not marry that girl”, sentenced Otto, and Aemond looked at him

“What?”

“She is a traitor, of a family of traitors, she will not bend the knee, we cannot have you marry her, we need you to secure other alliances”, his grandfather explained 

“But we will ask something of you”, said Alicent, grabbing his hand over the table. “Make sure to put a baby in her belly”, whispered the Queen. Aemond looked at her with his eye wide open

“What?”, he asked cautiously. His mother was embarrassed, he knew as much

“I’m not proud…”, she began, “but Rhaenyra's strongest ally is her sister’s family, we have her daughter, she would never put her at risk, as long as we have her they won’t attack, if Aemma is with child the risk diminishes…”

“The Princess is dead”, he said bitterly

“But her allies aren’t”, said Otto, “her siblings aren’t, they have two grown dragons, and the North!”

“I’m not marrying her…”, he whispered, “and you want me to defile her…”

“Aemond”, called his grandfather, but the young man just had to look at him once for him to keep quiet

“It’s Aemma”, he said to his mother, “my Aemma, and you want me to ruin her, to break her” 

“She is our hostage”, said Otto, and that made Aemond’s blood boil

“She is not “ours”, she is mine!”, he said firmly, “My Aemma”, he grunted, “Not our hostage, she is mine”. ANd with that, he left the room

Indignant, he felt disgusted, betrayed, his mother! what she asked of him. He wanted to be alone, away from all these people, maybe what he truly wanted was to go back to those times where he thought he had a complete and happy family, with Aemma and his nephews and his sister. 

She needed to see the one good person he realized that lived in the Red Keep, so he went to look for his sister, but Aegon found him instead 

“Did you enjoy the mission I gave you?”, he mocked 

“No, she is barely a woman”, he said firmly. He was not going to reveal to him how much he loved her, NEVER. 

“The more younger women are, the most delicious”, he whispered 

“I can’t believe the Gods put you on this earth before me”, he grunted

“Oh I bet you are”

“I will comply with this disgusting mission”, no he wasn’t going to comply to their sick mission, but Aegon didn’t need to know, the last thing he wanted was him going after Aemma, his sick brother drunk with wine and power

”Are you sure brother?”, asked Aegon, ignoring his brother, “that you are up to the task?” he rolled his eyes, asking the gods for patience, “because if you want, I could break her in for you”, at that he grabbed his brother by the collar of his tunic and threw him towards the wall of the hallway

“If you touch her…”, he whispered, “...I’ll kill you”, he whispered dangerously against his face

“I’m your King”, muttered in threat

“You more than anyone know how little that means to me”, he answered, releasing him and kept walking, forget Helaena, he needed to clear his head, and what better to do that then a quick flight on Vhagar’s back

I was really drowsy earlier and i thunk up some lore for my dynastyAU about soundwaves backstory. Buckle up yall this is a long one

Vos is a very large region of cybertron that was split up into four parts in order to make ruling easier. Vos is also one of the last two regions on cybertron that uses a monarchy. It was split up into northern, eastern, southern, and western kingdoms, each with its own ruling family. Eastern Vos is actually the biggest kingdom, both in size, population, and military, as its main focus is security and weapons development. Starscream, his trine, and most of the other seekers originate from eastern Vos, with Starscream being the last ruler before his whole power hungry usurping of the rest of Vos and the start of the great war.

Eastern, western, and northern Vos are completely cut off from the rest of cybertron and do not allow outsiders into their territory. They only allow trade and communication between the other parts of Vos and with other Vosians. Northern Vos is a lot more lenient with this policy as apposed to western and eastern Vos as both kingdoms see cross communication as treason and the punishment for being caught is severe. Southern Vos is vastly different and the rulers actually encourage interactions with other cybertronians.

Southern Vos was ruled by Empress Skyline. Long story short, she fell in love with a grounder before she was crowned Empress and after she ran away and had their first sparkling together she was found and brought back home. The grounder, a mech named Chambertune, snuck i to Vos to rescue here and was also caught, no surprise there, and was about to be executed when Skyline came running in and put herself between the excecutioner and her conjunx. She argues with her parents, theres an emotional moment, Chambertune is released, and for her bravery and idk true spark or something, shes crowned Empress as her parents retire from ruling and make Chambertune the royal ambassador and he deals with customs or something. Basically they put him in charge of opening the borders and integrating their society. Fun times yay.

So they had their first child, her name is Hurricane (theres a reason why please just trust me), while Skyline was in her running away era, and after she ascended to the throne, her and Chambertune proceeded to have six more sparklings over the course of several million years. Soundwave was the very last sparkling they had together. In this AU he also ends up working for Senator Ratbat but there is a lot that happens before that.

What i meant when i said Starscreams power hungry usurping of the rest of Vos, is that this dude went absolutely apeshit. The second he was crowned Winglord, all he wanted was more power. I wanna be clear that he is not a bad guy. Hes just incredibly spoiled and his entire childhood was his parents constantly feeding his ego about when he would finally be the ruler of eastern vos. Hes like 19-20 when hes put in charge. But once he got the throne it was horrifyingly anticlimactic. He expected to feel a lot more than he actually did and it was upsetting. He spent years yearning for this power and then once he got it, it wasnt enough. So the gears in his dumb little brain began to turn and he schemed an honestly terrible idea but bc he was Winglord, no one was brave enough to tell him other wise, not even his own brothers.

His plan was to take over the other nations of Vos. Spoiler alert, he did it. Vos was unified into one again. The ruling familys were taken captive and if they didnt bow to him, they were removed from the equation. His biggest problem was Southern Vos. Because of how they had been integrating their society for millennium before he was even created, half of the population was comprised of grounders. This didnt bode well with his ideal kingdom of Vos so he set his military wild. What they did to Southern Vos was genocide. They took the fliers and killed the grounders. The hybrids and halfbreeds were kept alive in hopes of breeding out the grounder genes.

Empress Skyline, Chambertune, and their three eldest children fought Starscreams military off the best they could while the younger four children fled the kingdom. They were unfortunately, spotted by a lost soldier, who reported to a general about the four escapees. That same lost soldier fire two rockets at them, intending to block their path but hit too close to them and knocked two of the kids out. The oldest of the four, who was not knocked unconscious, stopped to check on the younger two while Soundwave, a bit disoriented and dizzy, ran in a random direction. His brother saw him run but he was too far away to hear his call. As he reached the border, a stray rocket him close to him and the shockwave knocked him across. The blast also hit his left side and messed up a lot of wires and connectors in his processors, knocking him out and giving him amnesia and reducing his processing ability, leaving him mostly mute.

then it pretty much follows the idw backstory with him being found and taken in by ravage, buzzsaw, and laserbeak. I havent thunken how to weave in his telepathy but i have somewhat of an idea. In this au, outlier abilities are a mutation. that mutation gene, in rare cases, can be passed down genetically to offspring. Its more likely for a sparkling to have an outlier ability if both parents have the mutation gene. In this case, Chambertune has that mutation gene but Skyline does not. Out of their 7 offspring, only 3 of them, have the gene. Is a lot more than usual but thats only bc an ancestor of Skyline had a very weak outlier ability that was only usable when he was in danger. Hurricane is one of them (her original name was changed once her outlier ability developed), Soundwave of course is another, and i havent decided on a name for the last outlier child but his power is one of my favorites.

yeah yeah so hes found by those three, he spends a little while with them, then in a little stealing from the rich stunt, he gets caught by senator ratbat cuz it was his place they were stealing from. Ravage, bs, and lb are able to get away bur soundwave isnt so lucky. Ratbat finds out about his telepathy (hes got like three different powers but those dont show up until later) and decides “hey ur useful! Mine now” and adopts him. Hes a terrible person and an even worse dad but we’re not getting into that right now.

Some of it is still in development so im open to suggestions for a few things, one of which is names for soundwaves 5 other siblings (two femmes, three mechs), and also maybe a better resolution for Skyline reconnecting with her parents and becoming Empress bc i have not thought that era through

What would Donald Trump’s foreign policy look like, should he win a second presidential term? The debate ranges between those who believe he will abandon Ukraine, withdraw from NATO, and herald a “post-American Europe”—and those who predict he will escalate the Russian-Ukrainian war and continue his fiercely anti-communist policies. Foreign governments have been frantically reaching out to Trump and Republican circles to understand, if not influence, the future direction of his policies; one such visit may have even played a role in Trump’s acquiescence to the most recent batch of U.S. military aid to Ukraine following months of delay by many of his Republican supporters in the U.S. Congress.

One fact is already clear: If Trump regains the presidency, he and his potential advisors will return to a significantly changed global landscape—marked by two regional wars, the threat of a third in Asia, the return of great-power geopolitics, and globalization measurably in decline. While many expect a Trump 2.0 to be a more intense version of Trump 1.0, his response to the dramatic changes in the geopolitical environment could lead to unexpected outcomes.

Trump may now be less eager to abandon Europe given fast-rising European defense spending and an ongoing major war. The strengthening U.S. economy and flux in global supply chains could facilitate a broader decoupling from China and market-access agreements with allies. Expanded Iranian aggression could make it easier for Trump 2.0 to build a large international coalition. An examination of these and other changes of the last four years could yield surprising insights into how a second Trump administration could differ significantly from the first.

Since Trump left office, the U.S.-Mexico border crisis has worsened significantly. In 2020, Trump’s last full year in office, U.S. Customs and Border Protection carried out 646,822 enforcement actions, including against three individuals on the Terrorist Screening Data Set. By 2023, this had skyrocketed to 3.2 million encounters, including 172 people on the terrorist list. Under the Biden-Harris administration, there have been some 10 million illegal border crossings, including nearly 2 million known so-called gotaways—illegal crossers who could not be apprehended. The unsecured border, broken asylum process, and overwhelmed immigration courts have enabled significant fentanyl trafficking, resulting in over 200,000 American deaths in the last three years.

For a second Trump administration, sealing the border would be the critical national security issue, overshadowing all others. The Republican platform calls for completion of the border wall, the use of advanced technology on the border, and shifting the focus of federal law enforcement to migration. It also proposes redeploying troops from overseas to the southern border and deploying the U.S. Navy to impose a fentanyl blockade. Americans now see the border as a major problem, and Congress is likely to support significant spending. This reallocation will impact other areas, since the U.S. Army and Navy are already struggling with personnel and fleet size targets. Navigating tensions with Mexico and Central American countries, many of which have free-trade agreements with the United States and receive U.S. assistance, will be challenging.

Facing escalating regional wars and the smallest U.S. military in generations, Trump would likely oversee the most significant U.S. military buildup in nearly 50 years. The U.S. Armed Forces are shrinking, and the defense budget is close to its post-World War II low in terms of both federal budget share and percentage of GDP. The capacity, capabilities, and readiness of the U.S. military are weakening, and the defense industrial base has atrophied. The disastrous defeat in Afghanistan has led to a significant drop in Americans’ confidence in the military.

Trump has long supported a bigger and stronger military, but his administration’s modest budget increases primarily went to personnel, operations, and maintenance, with little investment in capabilities. Under then-Defense Secretary James Mattis, the 2018 National Defense Strategy abandoned the long-standing U.S. doctrine of maintaining readiness to fight wars in two regions simultaneously, focusing instead on deterring China in the Indo-Pacific. Today’s Trump-approved Republican platform pledges a larger, modern military, investment in the defense industrial base, and a national missile defense shield. Republican Sen. Roger Wicker, likely the next chair of the Senate Armed Services Committee, has proposed a detailed plan to raise defense spending from 3 percent of GDP in 2024 to 5 percent within five to seven years. This plan aligns with Trump’s policies and could lead to a domestic manufacturing boom. Trump could announce the first-ever trillion-dollar defense budget with broad Republican support, determined not to be remembered as the president who let China surpass the U.S. militarily.

Notwithstanding the Biden administration’s climate agenda, the United States’ historic rise as the world’s energy superpower could empower Trump to pursue more punitive policies against Russia and Iran while wielding greater leverage over China. The United States is now producing and exporting more energy than ever, even as its carbon emissions have decreased, largely due to the shift from coal to gas. In 2019, the country became a net energy exporter. Since 2017, total energy exports have nearly doubled, and the country has surpassed Russia and Saudi Arabia to become the world’s biggest oil producer. By further ramping up liquefied natural gas exports to Europe, a second Trump administration could reduce Russia’s influence, reshape European geopolitics, and strengthen trans-Atlantic ties. It would also greatly reduce the trade deficit with Europe, something Trump frequently rails about. Expanding energy production would also increase U.S. leverage over China, the world’s largest energy importer. Greater production—as well as closer alignment with Saudi Arabia under Trump—could do much to lower gas prices in the United States and oil prices globally. This, in turn, would allow Trump to pursue more aggressive strategic policies, such as striking Iranian nuclear assets or, should he wish to do so, diminishing Russian oil and gas exports.

The relative strength of the U.S. economy and major shifts in trading patterns would give another Trump administration far greater leverage on trade—including winning a trade war with China and striking new or revised trade deals with others.

Many Americans have a pessimistic view of their country’s economy, but it is far stronger relative to its peers than in 2016 or 2020. This year, the U.S. economy will account for an estimated 26 percent of global GDP, the highest share in almost two decades. It was nearly four times the size of Japan’s when Trump first entered office, and it will be seven times as large by the end of this year. As recently as 2008, the U.S. and Eurozone economies were similar in size. Today, the former towers over the latter, with the U.S. economy almost 80 percent larger. Britain’s relative decline is similar.

The strength of the U.S. economy would give Trump the leverage to strike the fair and reciprocal trade deals he seeks. Japan, facing an ever-aggressive China and urgently needing to boost economic growth, might build on the 2019 U.S.-Japan market access deal. Trump could resume the talks with Britain from the end of his first term with more leverage; a former Trump official indicated that a deal with Britain would be a priority in a second term. Trump might also revisit negotiations with the EU, following up on a market access agreement signed in 2019 following his imposition of tariffs. After eight years on top, the United States has overtaken China to be Germany’s top trading partner again. Trump’s aim to secure better deals is evident, and he may find more willing partners than before.

The same dynamics may lead to a far broader trade war with and decoupling from China. The U.S. economy has grown relative to China’s over the past eight years, with the gap widening in both directions: The U.S. economy is larger and the Chinese one smaller than economists expected. The forecast for when China’s economy might surpass the United States’ keeps sliding further and further into the future and may never happen at all. The International Monetary Fund projects that China’s share of the Asia-Pacific region’s GDP will be slightly smaller in five years than it is today, and it may never become the majority share. Even China’s official, flattering statistics suggest its economy is experiencing a lost decade due to deeply structural challenges, not temporary ones.

Over the past eight years, the U.S. economy has also become less dependent on foreign trade, including with China. In 2016, China was the top U.S. trading partner, accounting for more than 20 percent of U.S. imports and about 16 percent of total U.S. trade. By 2023, China slipped to third place, accounting for 13.9 percent of imports and 11.3 percent of trade. This shift would give greater credibility to Trump’s threats to revoke China’s most-favored nation trading status and impose wide-ranging tariffs. While these measures would have economic costs for Americans, around 80 percent of Americans view China unfavorably today, a significant increase from 2017, and the United States is now better positioned to withstand a protracted trade war with China than a few years ago.

Trump 2.0 would have the potential to lead a broader containment approach toward China. First, Trump and most Americans blame the Chinese government for the COVID-19 pandemic, which killed more than 1 million Americans, forced the U.S. economy into a deep recession, and likely cost Trump his reelection in 2020. Whether through trade measures, sanctions, or a demand for reparations, Trump will seek to hold China accountable for the estimated $18 trillion in damage the COVID-19 pandemic caused to the United States. In parallel, he is likely to end the attempts at partnership made by the Biden administration and Trump during parts of his first term. Issues like climate change, public health, foreign investment, Chinese land purchases in the United States, and Beijing’s role in the fentanyl epidemic will be viewed through the lens of strategic independence from China, as outlined in the Republican platform.

Second, the United States’ major European allies have become much more critical of China than when Trump left office—the result of COVID-19, Chinese “wolf warrior” diplomacy, Beijing’s support for Moscow’s war in Ukraine, and mounting issues concerning trade, technology, and supply chains. The references to China in the 2024 G-7 summit statement and NATO summit communique, compared to the last versions under Trump in 2019, make that clear. Europe is following Washington’s lead in imposing tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles, restricting Chinese telecoms from 5G infrastructure, and exposing and punishing Chinese espionage. A second Trump administration could build a coalition against Chinese behavior.

Third, the United States’ Asian allies are enhancing their military capabilities and cooperation among themselves. Australia, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and others are increasing their defense spending, and the United States recently negotiated expanded military access to key sites in the Philippines. Improved regional alliances and partnerships, including the Australia-United Kingdom-United States (AUKUS) pact, the Quad (Australia, India, Japan, and the United States), much improved Japan-South Korea relations, and growing Japan-Philippines cooperation will strengthen Trump’s hand with Beijing.

However, the China Trump will face is more powerful and aggressive than ever before. It has significantly increased its military harassment of Taiwan, the Philippines, and India. It has also deepened its strategic partnership with Russia: The two countries declared a “partnership without limits” in 2022, and Chinese President Xi Jinping told Russian President Vladimir Putin in 2023 that the world is undergoing changes “we haven’t seen for 100 years—and we are the ones driving these changes together.” China’s navy, already larger than its U.S. counterpart since around 2015, could be about 50 percent larger by the end of Trump’s second term. How would Trump respond if China attacked Taiwan? Washington assesses that Xi has ordered the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) to be prepared to win a war against Taiwan by 2027, and U.S. war games consistently indicate the U.S. could lose such a conflict. Trump continues to hew to the decadeslong policy of maintaining strategic ambiguity regarding Taiwan’s defense, even if he has included Taiwan in his familiar critique of allies not doing enough for their own defense. Nevertheless, the continuously eroding balance of power and rapidly evolving correlation of forces could make Trump less likely to assist Taiwan than one might suspect given his overall China policy. As Trump recently acknowledged in the bluntest of terms, Taiwan is 9,500 miles away from the United States but only 68 miles away from China.

Trump would return as commander in chief with the largest European war since World War II raging in Ukraine, the increased presence of U.S. forces on the continent, and European NATO members ramping up their defense spending. The much-changed situation in Europe could make him far less likely to withdraw U.S. troops, end support for Ukraine, or seek a grand bargain with Putin.

Trump’s persistent haranguing of European allies when he was president, coupled with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, has prompted European countries to rapidly increase their defense spending. Whereas only five NATO members spent at least 2 percent of GDP on defense in 2016 and nine did so in 2020, 23 do so now. European NATO nations have increased their collective defense spending by more than half since Trump first took office, far ahead of the United States’ much smaller increase during the same period. Germany has even surpassed Britain as Europe’s biggest defense spender. The burden sharing Trump pushed for is beginning to happen: European NATO allies are now shouldering a greater share of bloc-wide defense spending, and Europe also provides the majority of aid to Ukraine. U.S. companies and workers are benefiting: The U.S. share of global arms exports rose from 34 percent to 42 percent over the most recent five-year period.

In his first term, Trump welcomed both Montenegro and North Macedonia into NATO, even though neither met the 2 percent mark at the time. His inclination to move U.S. forces farther east along NATO’s frontier is now a reality. Today, 20,000 U.S. forces are stationed in the alliance’s eastern frontier states, part of what Supreme Allied Commander Europe Gen. Christopher Cavoli called a “definite shift eastward.” With the addition of Finland and Sweden as a result of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, NATO now has a significantly reshaped posture.

While the 2 percent floor for defense spending is now grossly inadequate, European states are proposing higher benchmarks. The European Union has released its first-ever defense industrial strategy, and many European countries are planning further increases in spending. Were Trump to preside over the June 2025 NATO summit in the Netherlands, he could not only announce “mission accomplished” with respect to the 2 percent target, but that NATO has collectively pledged a higher 3 percent floor.

Trump has promised to negotiate an end to the war in Ukraine “in 24 hours”—but has also threatened to dramatically increase arms support to Ukraine if Putin does not comply. He has never outright opposed military aid to Ukraine, acquiesced to congressional passage of a large supplemental in April, and recently concluded a positive call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Having observed how Biden’s disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan sunk his presidency, Trump may be determined to avoid a similar loss of Ukraine.

Facing a Middle East with escalating Tehran-backed conflicts and a near-nuclear Iran, Trump 2.0 might also double down and increase U.S. military involvement to douse the fires Tehran has lit.

Trump is likely to end the Biden administration’s pressure on Israel to end the war against Hamas, de-escalate against Iran, and withdraw from Gaza and the West Bank. Trump would end Biden’s embargo on certain U.S. arms deliveries to Israel, halt aid to Gaza, and de-emphasize humanitarian concerns. Trump has consistently supported an Israeli “victory”—a stance repeated by his running mate, Sen. J.D. Vance—and called on Israel to “finish the job.” Trump has walked back his previous endorsement of a Palestinian state, suggesting a very different approach to the “day after.” If a major war between Israel and Hezbollah breaks out, Trump’s track record suggests he would support swift Israeli action with less concern for civilian casualties, with full U.S. support but no direct military involvement.

Trump 2.0 would quickly face the choice of whether to take preemptive military action against Iranian nuclear facilities. Iran is now a nuclear breakout state, capable of producing enough weapons-grade uranium for several bombs in less than 10 days, even if weaponization may take several months to a year. Berlin, Paris, and London, antagonists to Trump 1.0’s Iran policy, may be supporters of Trump 2.0’s, as Iran’s growing military alliance with Russia, nuclear progress, and support for the Houthis have shifted European attitudes. Having repeatedly passed the wartime tests by Iran and its proxies, Israeli anti-air capabilities have rapidly improved, as has coordination with Arab partners. Trump will likely recharge his maximum-pressure approach, but he may be more likely to threaten Iran directly than ever before.

Trump 2.0 could also launch a campaign against the Houthis similar to that against the Islamic State during Trump 1.0. He would inherit a 24-nation coalition that is currently failing to restore freedom of navigation through the Red Sea. Despite the most intense U.S. naval combat operations since World War II, Suez Canal transits are still fewer than half of what they were a year ago; so far, over 90 commercial vessels have been hit and more than 100 warships attacked. Just as he declared the defeat and destruction of the Islamic State to be his “highest priority” on the first day of his presidency, he may flip the mission from a defensive to offensive one by hitting Houthi launch sites, targeting critical infrastructure, eliminating Iranian naval support, and directly threatening Tehran. A successful campaign could restore commercial shipping, lower energy and shipping costs, and foster diplomatic cooperation with European, Middle Eastern, and Asian governments.

Even if Trump’s instincts and inclinations remain unchanged, the world’s vastly shifted circumstances could prompt unexpected approaches. If Trump 1.0 was an alliance disruptor and protectionist, a second Trump administration could turn out to be a coalition builder and forger of significant trade deals. Concerns over U.S. abandonment of Europe and withdrawal from the Middle East may prove to have been hasty, with altered circumstances leading to greater stability in Europe and a rollback of Iranian aggression in the Middle East. Dealmaking with China may give way to the best opportunity to build a Cold War-like coalition to blunt aggressive Chinese behavior.

3. What do they think about military? Do they like or hate the system? Why?

Military?... Hmm...

I don't think our mercenary organization can be called an military, but our marshal prefers that our allies call us the White Lily Army. Otherwise, it is not surprising, because only the FH marshals know about our secret mercenary activities; none of the civilian and ordinary soldiers and our opponents realize that behind the masks of the White Lily detachment is hiding one of the most powerful mercenary organizations of the neighboring islands.

Our squad is quite united, but sometimes minor skirmishes or problems from one of the mercenaries spoil the idyll. We were never belittled by our superiors, but were considered equals. However, I have a higher status than many of the mercenaries, I am Sad Viko's deputy, but I prefer to treat everyone equally. All the laws were discussed by me and Sad Viko, so I have no negative attitude towards them. In our squad, all the guys have suffered terrible injuries and sometimes this affects their work, but our medical staff does an excellent job of providing assistance....

What do I think about the FH army?... They are excellent allies, although due to our black trade there were long debates, MG (CG) was the most outraged, but I managed to resolve and set everything up peacefully.. This is a pretty powerful army and I I am proud that we can cooperate with them while continuing our hiring activities.

As for the enemy army, I don’t consider them a strong threat, in many ways they are stupid and naive... For a couple of years they still haven’t understood why, after calling in mercenary units, customers are found dead or other people’s bodies disappear altogether... We are used to getting rid of most corpses selling their weapons, organs and blood on the black market, documents about each killed are kept in the archives.

The system of our army is debugged to perfection and always works clearly and smoothly... When combined with the FH, a rather powerful combination is obtained. We do not charge them full payment for orders, but only half. By supplying equipment and medicines, we increase the level of trust between our armies. The main thing is not to cross the border and not get lost in it all...

Each of the departments of our organization clearly copes with its task, even the cadets make a significant contribution to our activities.

Hmm... The ordering system never lets us down, and even helps us in our activities. Otherwise, until we are caught, I will be satisfied with the work of the organization and the soldiers. Joe Biden on Tuesday signed an executive order that will temporarily shut down the US-Mexico border to asylum seekers attempting to cross between lawful ports of entry, when a daily threshold of crossings has been exceeded. The order will take effect immediately, senior administration officials said on a press call. Those seeking asylum will be held to a much more rigorous standard for establishing credible fear of returning to their home country, although certain groups – including human trafficking victims and unaccompanied children – would be excluded from the ban. Delivering remarks at the White House alongside mayors of border towns, Biden said congressional Republicans had left him with “no choice” but to take unilateral action after they blocked a bipartisan border security bill earlier this year.

“So today, I’m moving past Republican obstruction and using the executive authority that’s available to me as president to do what I can on my own to address the border,” Biden said. “Doing nothing is not an option. We have to act.” The move comes amid rising public concern over the number of people crossing into the US, with polls showing a majority of Americans dissatisfied with the president’s handling of the border. In border towns, we see hordes of young men on the streets, destitute, jumping the barriers of detention centres, living in squats, sometimes addicted to drugs.

European countries and the United States claim to be so overwhelmed that they delegate their borders to Mexico, Turkey and the countries of North Africa. They pay them to process asylum applications before the migrants have set foot in the destination country. The detention centres are inhumane and the migrants jump the barriers to get to their destination. The barrier is very easy to jump. Migrants enter countries illegally because it is inhumane to ask to enter legally. So they don’t assert their rights.

Faced with these terrifying images, we hear the Right telling us that these illegals must be punished more severely, and we hear the Left telling us that there are no problems with migrants. These migrants work for a tenth of the price and cannot assert their rights before a judge. The people most affected by migration are the rural and poor. The result of this situation of irregularity is to create an extremely cheap labour force that cannot compete with European or American labour. It is legitimate to feel helpless when faced with these migrants. The fields in the United States and Europe are full of illegal workers and the fields are not controlled. The current policy simply creates more scope for employers. The people living in rural areas are concerned, and only the right wing is addressing them.

In the short term, many migrants are arriving at the borders of the West and there is no reason why their treatment should not be organised in humane conditions. Those who wish to assert their right to asylum do not deserve prison.

In the long term, the European and North American powers have largely contributed to making the countries of the South unliveable. We must stop actively destroying these countries. Multinationals must be held criminally responsible when they commit an act in these countries that would be a crime in the West. They must be tried in the West for pollution, subversion, corruption, forced labour, child labour, etc. On the other hand, the West can and must support democratic regimes when they emerge in these countries. African revolutionaries have all been killed. This has to stop.

It is only under these conditions that development aid can be effective. If we give development aid when these conditions are not met, it feeds corruption. Only effective development aid will create decent living opportunities in these countries and reduce the number of migrants.

Taking stronger action on climate change is also important to ensure that these countries do not become hellholes.

If these countries end up receiving a fair income from their resources and labour, they will become long-term customers and trading partners and will be able to deal with the sanitary problems that threaten us all.
