in a world where visual art is mostly consumed by fastscrolling social media on tiny screens, how does it feel to be an artist who puts attention into detailing their drawings?
feels pretty good tbh. if i worried myself with how others might come across my images my personal artist experience would suck royally. so i don't worry myself with it. i don't dedicate 30k words and counting + 3 & ongoing years of images to a ship that like me and 3.5 other people care about, time & energy to a ship Just Me On That One cares about, over 40k and I forgot how many images to a character who doesn't appear in canon and who i (and others alongside me in our own corners) made the fuck up to then worry that people might not catch the squiggly lines in the backgrounds of my images. the people see them or they don't they either see them or they don't. i really like reading people Realize i hid something in the background, or drew something so dark that it only appears at a phone's full brightness. i know what i did and i did it because i wanted to. the people know i like my details when i put them in, or they don't. i'm still posting anyways. my paddock and you're stuck in it with me.
also i'll put you in on a secret as someone who worked in a museum: tons of people also "fastscroll" by irl art too. enter a room, have a cursory glance at the art, and keep walkin fast. because they got other places to be, because they booked a restaurant somewhere, because they want to see as many museums as they can before they fly or drive back home. spending a lot of time on the details is sometimes also discouraged by museum staff; i got told off in Folkwang for leaning in close while i had my hands clasped behind my back in an extremely obvious "I AM NOT TOUCHING" posture and had my feet multiple feet from the frame to show i didn't intent on coming closer. 🤷 quite frankly digital art and posting it online allows for people to get lost in the details way more easily than seeing irl art because you can just zoom in. or download it on your phone for better quality and zoom in. get this close in a museum and staff will be on your ass. as staff i try to be verrry lenient on this and only get involved when i see hands starting to wander because I Know it pisses me off personally.

The next time someone tells you that the Bible is just a book written by man, show them this.
This is a graph of all cross-references in the Bible.
A total of 63,779 cross references. If one man wrote a book that articulates, he would be considered the greatest composer the world has ever known.
But the Bible wasn’t written by one man. It was written by the Holy Spirit.
Then the Holy Spirit used 40 men, most of whom never met each other.
It was written in 3 different languages. On three different continents.
Over a period of 1,500 years. Without divine inspiration that’s absolutely impossible.
The Bible isn’t just a book. It’s 66 books that men wrote under the divine guidance of the Holy Spirit. It’s the living Word of God!
Read it, study it, and apply it! Then go share it with someone else!
And think about THAT for a Minute!

Fitz, contemplating whether to take the sword or war axe with him on his quest to revenge and rescue Bee: "hmm I'm better with the axe than the sword, but war axes are difficult to conceal and nobody lugs them around for vanity. Any guy might carry a sword to look cool tho. The sword it is!"
Fitz, almost two books later: "man I did not not pack a sword but my war axe will be so hard to hide under the cloak when we enter Clerres...Brashen, can I borrow a hatchett from you?"
Robin Hobb you forgot to check your notes!!! We discussed the merits of sword vs. war axes 900 pages ago!!!

as someone who loves classic literature, i really love how much it feels like each character in soulcalibur's story is influenced by the literature from the culture they come from. the japanese characters, especially mitsurugi and yoshimitsu, were probably the ones writers spent the most care with but i LOVE how much you see it in the european characters too. sophitia, cassandra, and aeon are all characters that feel like they were plucked out of a greek tragedy, and you can see so many echos of storybeats that many greek tragedies had. i guess its not hard to feel like that when the greek gods are so intertwined with their stories but still, it honestly feels so well thought out. to avoid being repetitive, im linking an in depth analysis from @laikaflash that talks about this right here
but i think my favorite example of this is raphael and amy tbh, but mostly raphael. as someone who so enjoys classic french literature, i cant help but see bits and pieces from the different stories i love laced throughout raphaels story. the fact that he was the head of his house at the beginning of his story and is in good standing with the king, but is then framed for conspiracy and has his life ruined, reminds me so much of what happened to edmond dantes from the counte of monte cristo. dantes had a much more humble beginning than raphael but still, that undeserved fall from grace at the hands of someone who was jealous of him, forcing him to be on the run from the law, i see that parallel.
then we have the fact that he adopted a little orphan girl while on the run from the law, and then was able to lie his way back to the top with the hopes of raising and protecting her, which makes me think of jean valjean and cosette from les miserables.
but i think the thing that gets me so excited thinking about this is that they chose not to give these storybeats to a character who is meant to be viewed as heroic, they gave them to someone who is objectively a terrible person. they flipped these stories from classic french literature on their heads, which i think makes it very exciting to try and speculate where his story will go from here because he as a person is such a departure from dantes or from jean valjean. it also makes me wonder what else they will take inspiration from for him going forward (minus the dracula stuff because that all feels more aesthetic than anything. then again ive never read bram stokers dracula so i could just not know what im talking about)
anyway im curious to know which other characters take inspiration from their country's classic literature. i know siegfried is literally named after a knight from legend, i know groh is supposed to be based on the knights of the round table, xiba is based on the monkey king from journey to the west, im not sure if kilik is either. but still, i would love to know about talim, about the koreans, xianghua, honestly everyone on the roster

Olive Llewellyn says she doesn't want to write autobiographical novels but she's a character in one and the same. Emily St. John Mandel wrote Station Eleven in 2015 and five years later look what happened and then she wrote this. Olive wrote a novel about a pandemic and then nearly died in one and went on to write science fiction. Olive doesn't want to write autobiographically but she is WRITTEN so. every character in every book has something of the author in them, or at least I think so and it's how I myself write, but it's so so clear in this book who their author is. and she's so GENTLE about it!! invites the reader into her mindscape for a little while: all things are delicately interconnected. there is nothing new under the sun. they had light inside as well as cold, I've been thinking a great deal about time and motion lately. nothing happens the same way twice and everything balances on a needle's edge the way it is-was-has-is going to happen. we don't understand what or who strikes that balance, sets things in motion, opens that door to access the light. we don't know we're an autobiographical character in an author's story, or at least, can't fully comprehend that. sometimes it all leads back to an airport, for whatever reason. any resemblance to actual persons, living or dead, events, or locales is NOT entirely coincidental. survival is insufficient. what if it's always the end of the world?

Me when someone comes back to always request the same character: omgg so happy to provide your favorite, yess here, have some content UwU ♡
Me, when i see open requests: I cant possibly be asking for the same character again, I'm gonna be such a burden and people are gonna be so annoyed about it.
AND I KNOW THEY WONT. and yet.
