Madclaw is a pirate, she was once a prisoner of the Garlean Empire after they invaded Bozja, after escaping with other prisoners she began her journey of sinking as many Garlean ships as she could and using the scraps to improve her own vessel. After the events of endwalker, however, she essentially lost her purpose in life. Her crew disbanded, and she was left alone with the ship and wealth she accumulated with no ambition.

Soon after she meets Iskra.

Iskra is a culinarian from Limsa Lominsa. Her family fled shortly before the Bozja crisis, and so she led a fairly normal life in Eorzea.

Upon Iskra meeting the aimless depressed Captain, she offered to be her personal chef in exchange for Madclaw taking her on a culinary trip across the world with her ship.

They very quickly fell in love…

Is it bad that I'm much more excited to get my hands on the crafters and gatherers level 100 gear sets than I am with the DoM and DoW gear sets? Can't wait for next month.

FFXIV: Dawntrail Promotional Site

I have modified my New Expansion Strategy slightly for Dawntrail.

I can't help scouring the world clean of content as I go. That's who I am. I see a quest marker, I accept and complete the quest, I don't move on until it's all clear. But this time I'm taking quests one by one, and not accepting a new one until I've completed the old one. This way they don't all just tangle together into a useless knot in my brain and have their individual stories and lore muddied.

I'm also leveling seven jobs at once; Gunbreaker, Monk, Dragoon, Machinist, Red Mage, and Sage for my regular selections, and then I'm knocking out Allied Society Quests and Hunt Logs every day to get a big chunk of EXP for Viper while I slowly figure out what the hell all those buttons do. By this time next week Viper will probably be in the 90s, then I'll blitz it through some Trust dungeons to get it fully caught up. I'll get everything else to 100 eventually, but those are the jobs that particularly resonate with my character's personality and style. And I'm dabbling a little in Culinarian and Fisher when I need a break from fighting things, but those are lower priorities for right now.

Is this way slow? Yeah. Absolutely. I've been at it as often as work and other obligations will allow since the first morning of Early Access, and I'm only barely up to level 63 content. But that's fine. No power on earth could compel me to do synced Savage/Extreme/Ultimate content, so there's no need whatsoever to rush to be ready. And meanwhile I'm getting exactly the chill learning-about-a-new-location-in-excruciating-detail experience that I crave. Add that to the fact that I haven't seen a single hint of the Ascians/Azem plot lingering in the new MSQ, and I couldn't be happier!

I just wish Work would stop happening so I could run around Tural all day every day...

Siyoh is incredibly passionate about food. Not surprising given her craft as a Culinarian. But one might say food could almost be considered an obsession for her. Working in her mother's bakery when she was younger supplied Siyoh with a wealth of lessons about life. One of which, she learned early on.

Food transcends social barriers.

Be it language, cultural, or otherwise. Everyone understands and appreciates a hot meal on a cold night. You don't have to be able to speak to one another to enjoyed shared company and an equally shared meal.

The silver miqo'te has applied this lesson through out her life and it is part of why she has poured so much passion into her craft.

Food brings people together and unites them over a common ground.

My fourth FFXIV cookbook recipe, Trapper's Quiche! I knew a little about what quiche was, kinda like a breakfast pie, but I'd never attempted one. Black Shroud food appeals to me a lot because it has mushrooms. It can't go wrong with mushrooms.

Next year, if I find as many morels as I did this year, I'd like to try them in this! Sadly, morel season is over in my area for now.

This recipe felt very much like "trust the process" to me. The filling was very, very liquid-y, and it scared me a bit to just dump it on a pie crust and hope for the best, but it firmed up into a very nice, fluffy texture! It also calls for gruyere, which made me feel exceptionally fancy.

I had to make one substitution. Despite my searching, I couldn't find Thai basil. The closest, but not perfect, suggestion was blending basil with mint, and it tasted pretty darn good. My friend, who has a garden, has planted some. Whether this was my influence or he was going to plant it regardless, I'll have to ask, lol! And steal some, of course.

This is another recipe I could see myself making again and again. Mushrooms in a cheesy, creamy egg fluff? Yes please!

No self-respecting chef would dare set foot into their own establishment without looking the part. 

The Thandha Cuisinier’s set will do just that with its simple yet practical design.  Woven primarily with Himvat Cloth, this set was inspired by renowned cooks from a bygone realm whose specialties lied with creating wondrous dessert dishes.

The Culinarian’s main tool of choice has been dubbed “Hestia”, and is an otherwise unassuming non-stick skillet inlaid with tiny ice-aspected gems to help regulate temperature and mitigate the inevitable - yet easily avoidable - circumstances of overcooking one’s food.  Much like most other skillets, this particular tool has a diamond-shaped imprint upon its surface, and the inner layer is made visible through a glimmering snowflake outline.  It is said to glow dimly when its magic is working.

The Thandha Cuisinier has been recommended by Abbiocco’s own proprietress as the gear set of choice, and will undoubtedly rival even the famed Bismarck and Last Stand combined.  And yes, what you see is no jest: the toque can be visibly worn by Viera and Hrothgar alike.  (Take that, Squeenix).

I got culinarian as my first crafter maxed, and the gear is so good looking! I love Rein in a vest, the back of it most especially is so detailed but appealing in design. Wish there was more formalwear of this nature in the game.

Tonight: Culinarian Stuff

He legit didn't plan on becoming a Culinarian for more than just learning how to make food he missed. Being an adventurer is EXPENSIVE at first, and he couldn't afford good food beyond what Momodi sometimes gave him on discount because she saw how homesick he was. Then someone mentioned that the Guildmaster at the Bismark will let anyone sign up as long as they actually want to be decent at making food.

Lyngsath took one look at this smol albino Hyur who barely reached his waist and mentally went "I must feed this child". Especially when Theo told him he wanted to learn because he missed food from home, oh this tiny Hyur needs Fathering.

And Lyngsath is canonically a father to his guild even if they don't always appreciate it.

Much to his surprise Theo found out he's actually pretty good at this! Recipes mean that there's a nice solid routine to follow, yay autism, but also he's got a knack for spotting when something is about to go wrong and compensating for it.

Being Properly Good at something gave him the feels and he spent about a fortnight in Limsa after delivering General Raubahn's letter pretty much living in the kitchens doing nothing but eating, sleeping in a corner, cooking, and bathing when he was pushed out the door with orders to have a proper bath before he came back. Thankfully his routine always involved 'bath or shower = clean clothes'.

He was so embarassed when he realised he'd forgotten to take Kan-E-Senna's letter and he gave her a fresh batch of chocolate chip biscuits to apologise for the delay, unwittingly winning her over. He still has no idea that's why she decided he was Good People.

Raubahn got a nice hot meat and three veg meal delivered right to his desk at the Immortal Flames for his apology, and the Sultana got a box of handmade animal chocolates.

He feeds people now. He's especially popular in Little Ala Mhigo (because he learned their style of cooking and makes huge batches every time he visits because everyone deserves comfort food) and The Waking Sands/Rising Stones/Crystarium. He just keeps making food for everyone!

He's probably made more friends through doing this than through being the Warrior of Light. Lyngsath is so proud!
