Abt my first DMing experience (and seeing my own campaign played out)

I was IMMEDIATELY thrown into role-playing NPCs and I kind of suck at it (to be clear, I WROTE IT ALL so. my own mistake)?? So that was a big 'Ooighhh whats goin on'. The city's name got a good laugh

Accidentally put too much pressure on 'be discreet!' so they didn't ask ANYTHING from the NPCs, though I corrected myself after a moment. Note for the future, hint that NPCs know things when you want players to talk to them?? 🤦🏼 Read more here

The first combat was fun + reminded me of the importance of preparing before the session, I was a bit out of it </3 Then there was forest exploration (with hexes and all 😍) and I was EXTREMELY HONORED to see that the players WANTED to explore the forest and strayed away from a straight line just for shits and giggles (context: the first campaign we played had a FUCKING ATROCIOUS forest. We were sick and tired of it)

They fought my homebrewed swarm of baby mimics, let's fuckin' GOOOO. We all had funnn, and I was proud cuz it came out rather balanced! Our cleric started smoking them like wasps with incense and trapped some in a donation can. Great stuff

They arrived to the village, looked at a body, I had to imply they should investigate it and at that point was a bit 😨 at their lack of, like, interaction? But oh well

They got to cave #1, fought blood bloaters and OHH.MY GOD... It was taking so long... I think they were a bit unbalanced - curse you, the guy who adapted them from 3.5 into 5e! But yeah, it was taking so long that at the end I was laughing a bit at how they could deal with this in a much less convoluted way. THEY REALLY COULD HAVE... At that point we were all tired, so end of session one

Day 2: We get to cave #2, the combat went rather smoothly, mainly bc they realized very soon that those fuck ass mushrooms can only move 1,5 meters per turn. They just fought a bit and outran them, which was lovely

Cave #3 aka. the boss encounter, aka. THE NIKIFOR ENCOUNTER, which my friend was STOKED FOR because we're OBSESSED WITH HIM. I was genuinely a bit overcome with stress at the beginning, I realized VERY SOON that I didn't prepare for this AT ALL, I kind of didn't have a plan and tried to freestyle it. SOMEHOW I DIDN'T THINK THAT 4 PEOPLE CAN JUST SWARM A GUY. AND THEY DID. So there was almost no epic fight, it was ALL 'let's kill that annoying bitch' (he is an annoying bitch, so). I was prepared for that too and I even preferred that outcome, but still. I had to tell them like three separate times that this IS the final (boss) fight, because Su (previously unmentioned player) kept telling the rest that this isn't the boss fight 'yet'. Just call me a slur, oh shit 😭 Anyway he (I) kept being an annoying bitch, proceeded to break down insanely upon getting DESTROYED by the group, got defeated rather easily, PISSED HIMSELF after getting kicked. I described a bit of an epilogue, story ends

A zgrzyt: IMMEDIATELY after finishing Su told me what was done wrong, that I should've talked more about the plot (done exposition?? if I understand the term correctly). And okay, at the end Nikifor refused to talk to them and kept trying to kill them. But that was like, his thing?? I assumed that they'd piece together what was going on* FROM MAYBE SEEING A BOOK IN HIS ROOM WHICH HAD SOMETHING ABOUT 'SUMMONING RITUALS' IN THE 'TIAMAT' (EVIL GODDESS) SECTION... AND HIM DOING SOMETHING VERY RITUAL-LIKE... THAT INCLUDED TIAMAT'S SYMBOL... While I absolutely see Su's points, they showed a big ass amount of not remembering SHIT about the (already thin) plot. I don't mind players crocheting and stuff but girl that's probably the reason you didn't know some things <3

*Besides him being a half-dragon out of nowhere, and then turning back into himself. I admit I should've hinted at the reason for that, once again my mistake really (though them not immediately knowing it's him WAS intended)

A nice thing: Overall I was told I'm great at DMing, that I'm rules-savvy and the game went very smoothly (partially because of that) and that I seem like I have experience (probably cuz I was a player with three diff DMs, all at the table then LOL). VERY LOVELY!! <3

I've started to build a bookmark file of jobsearch sites to check regularly, and part of that is looking around at employers local to Chicago. On a whim I went to the careers site of one of the larger corporations headquartered here, and while I was poking around to see what kind of requirements they have for what kind of jobs, I came across the worst tabletop campaign ever:

I don't like to post about this stuff publicly but I'm tired of seeing ppl interact with this person while also following me, so I want to let you all know that if you follow/interact with Saturnflower841 then unfollow and block me.

They're very, very vocal about being a prshipper on here, in fact it doesn't even take a lot of scrolling to find the stuff they're talking about. Recently they posted a ship chart saying that they ship parentxchild and siblingxsibling and if you scroll further you can find even more. On top of that, on their twitter (Saturnstuff20), they broke other peoples boundaries by following people who had prship DNI in bio. This is not a callout, do NOT go into their askbox or anything it does literally nothing. This is more of an awareness post for my sake of mind and for anyone who doesn't know. If you do know and keep interacting then block me because I don't want you here.

The point here is making people aware that their art might be stolen already. The immediate response of people who steal other peoples work is that when they're confronted, they delete everything, instead of crediting and showing their sources

It's one thing to use something as a reference, looking at art and real life images is how you learn to block out bodies and shapes. There are practically no poses that are original at this point, and that's not an issue

Straight out tracing someone else's work down to the clothing they're wearing is theft. Tracing someone else's work and not crediting the original is theft. Tracing someone else's work and posting it claiming it's original is theft

You see when people show their references constantly. They'll stick it under a readmore. They point out who inspired the piece. They point out the good work other people do

And the habit of plagiarists and art thieves is to just find lesser known artists after being called out because they don't want their piece to be overshadowed by the original

Dreamation 2025: Day 4 (Sunday, 2/23/25)

(I meant to post this sooner but didn't oops! Here it is now!)

So this weekend, I'm at a local TTRPG convention called Dreamation. I'm attending and running some games. I figured I'd make some blog posts about my experience, day by day! This is for Day 4, Sunday, the last day. I'm writing these with Ellipsus btw!

After getting plenty of sleep, I prepared to run another game of i'm sorry did you say street magic! This game also had 9 people in it, and it was interesting to see the similarities and differences from yesterday's game. Both had cities whose neighborhoods moved & shifted. But this was a sci-fi ship-planet-thing full of robots who went about their programmed duties, unable to see the humans who had awoken from cryosleep.

I did make a few tweaks compared to the day before—mainly, I asked players to focus on making neighborhoods & landmarks primarily during the first round, and to make residents during the second round. This resulted in only two residents being created in the end, and there were much more neighborhoods & landmarks. Definitely something I want to think on as I run this game more.

Here's what the city looked like before the final round:

In the final round, the player decided that the city-changing event was that the ship reached its final destination. That was something I never would have thought of—that's why I like this game so much. People's creativity really blooms here, and together, they make something they couldn't hav made alone.

I was supposed to have a Pathfinder game after this, in the afternoon. I've never played Pathfinder before. Unfortunately, not enough people showed up to play, so I suppose my first Pathfinder experience will have to wait. They did give me a voucher for a online game store as an apology, so that was nice at least.

And that was basically my time at Dreamation! Kind of anticlimatic ending, but hey, the rest of the weekend was great, so that makes up for it. I had a great time, and I definitely want to come back next year! Maybe I'll run some more games, too!

Important update

This blog is no longer fully active, I will still update it here and there when the mood for MLP stuff strikes me but I did have a lot of my mlp muse die due to the harassment I received a few years back from a crazy starlight fan. People also constantly DMing me or going to my other socials to DM me to continue this blog has not helped reignite my drive to draw ponies.

I have closed the askbox for now and like I said i'll occasionally update here and there when the mood arises and if I get my full swing back, I will reopen the askbox. But also note there are several things I'd like y'all to keep in mind cause I will block people who press this. 1: Do not DM me asking me to continue the blog. The constant DMs asking especially from people after already being told "its on hiatus until the mood comes back" stress me out. 2: Do not use my art, story, or characters or post them to other sites. This has been a rule since I opened the blog. I don't own the canon chars obviously, but I am extremely protective of my personal ocs and my artwork. 3: Do not ask to purchase my story or characters from me. That is so unbelievably rude and I will block people for doing that. They are still my ocs and my stories they will NEVER be for sale even if I am not using them here as often because many have had revamps to be used in other stories. I've been asked this more than once so I am making it very public that I am NEVER going to sell my personal ocs.

I understand many people like motherly luna. But some of the messaging I've been getting has been borderline harassment at this point and it doesn't make me want to continue this blog cause of it.
