Nakajima Kento talked about how he admired Kaiba Seto from Yu-Gi-Oh. He told Tsuda about it when they worked together. On Kento's birthday, Tsuda sent him a personalized voice message, saying one of the most famous lines in Yu-Gi-Oh.

Tsuda played Inui Sadaharu in Prince of Tennis (PoT) and it changed his life dramatically. PoT was at the forefront of the "ikemen" boom at the time, and he could finally quit doing part-time jobs.

Kazama Shunsuke, who voice acted as the main character for Yu-Gi-Oh, talks about how close the two of them were in that series even though they were playing as each other's rivals. They were both newbies to the voice acting industry with no other jobs at the time, so they hung out a lot as they waited for their call time.

Kazama is particularly smug at being aware of Tsuda's charm a lot earlier than most people, and he wants everybody to know that, lol

Tsuda shares how the cast and staff from the TV drama Saiai are really passionate about the drama. Same goes from the staff of Jujutsu Kaisen.

Namikawa Daisuke shares some anecdotes about Tsuda. Sometimes tsuda texts him about eating out together, but then leaves him on read when Namikawa asks when he's free.

On his TV drama/ Movie Discography:

Tsuda talked about experience acting in the hit TV drama Saiai. On his first day filming, he forgot his lines. It's been 12 years since he last played as a recurring character in a TV show, and for his first scene, he had to do a long presentation in front of 30 people. All he could think was that there were a lot of people, and then his mind went blank.

Some notable TV drama appearances of Tsuda:

- Played as a host in Ikebukuro West Gate Park (2000) in his 20s for 21 seconds - A guy hitting on the main character (Inoue Mao) in Hana Yori Dango in his 30s (2005) for 30 seconds ("Ooh, I got more screentime") - A doctor in Jin (2009) for 24 seconds ("Aww, I had less screentime lol.").

In 2023, he trended worldwide on X/Twitter as an actor for his impactful scene in the drama The Last Man. When Tsuda turned up in the second episode, his acting was a popular topic on social media.

He adlibbed in the last scene of Last Man. Came up with 30 versions for that scene, and settled on "Shintaro, are you hungry?" Figured a parent would be worrying about whether his kid is feeling hungry, cold or hot.

On his acting:

Originally was aiming to be an actor, not a voice actor.

When he started acting, he was able to let all his dark emotions out using the lines he had to act out. These were feelings such as "hating people", and "hate towards society". It was the first outlet he found for those feelings, and he found that very fun. He was able to bring out his real self when he acted. Because of that experience, he couldn't give up acting.

Unfortunately, money was tight at the time and his electricity and gas would get cut off. It even came to a point when even his water would get cut off. He kept on failing in auditions, so even if he's been practicing on his acting, he didn't really have a chance to show it to others.

For him, the most painful thing about it all was that he was an absolute nobody. He had no proof that he's actually alive. But he overcame that difficulty because he was obstinate-- He believes that this is where his strength lies. He keeps doing things until he's satisfied with it.

On his voice acting career:

Voice acting was what gave him an opportunity to link with the world of expressing himself.

Says Nanami Kento is a wonderful role to play. That Jujutsu Kaisen's influence is amazing.

During the New Year's holidays, he went on a holiday trip abroad. While he was sightseeing, a foreigner would call out, "Mr. Tsuda?" He said yes, all the while taken aback since he was in Prague. They asked for a photo and a signature. In the one week that he stayed there, it happened 5 times.

When he asked them how they knew him, everyone answered Jujutsu Kaisen. "Nanami, Nanami." He really didn't expect it to be so popular abroad. It made him feel the power of Japanese anime.

While he was struggling with acting, he was invited to an audition for voice acting and he accepted the invitation with no hesitation. At age 25, he debuted as a voice actor for the anime H2.

At age 29 was his fateful encounter with the series Yu-gi-oh Duel Monsters (2000) where he played Kaiba Seto.

Nakajima Kento says his idol in life is Kaiba Seto. It was also thanks to Tsuda's acting that Kento admired Kaiba, and he told Tsuda exactly that when Tsuda did the narration for Kento's movie show. On Kento's 27th birthday, he got a voice message from Tsuda, saying "It's 27-year-old Nakajima Kento's turn! Draw!!" Kento was ecstatic. He thinks Tsuda is really cool.

A year after Yu-Gi-oh, he played Inui Sadaharu from Prince of Tennis. The Ikemen (Hot Guys) boom was rising at the time, and Prince of Tennis was at the forefront of this trend. It changed his life dramatically. He was finally able to quit doing part-time jobs. At around 31 years old. He always felt like he was walking a fine line, so it was a relief to have a stable livelihood.

Anecdotes from Kazama Shunsuke, voice actor of Yugi Moto from Yu-Gi-Oh

Both Tsuda and Kazama Shunsuke, who played the main character of Yu-gi-oh, were newbies at voice acting when they did Yu-gi-oh. Tsuda was still new to voice acting at the time, while Kazama had never done it before. Although they were playing as each other's rivals, they became close since they were both newbies.

They both didn't have any other work to do, so they had a lot of time on their hands. Kazama would contact Tsuda and ask if he came to work early, and Tsuda would reply, "I'm free right now so I'm lurking nearby." And they'd have tea together. We'd talk about what we could do to be good at voice acting like other VAs.

Kazama talked about how worried he was about Tsuda. When he laughs, Tsuda does it in 3 levels of increasing laughter. At times, he'd even do 5 levels, since the animation would also have 5 different clips as the power of his laughter increases. The 3rd level would be his usual laughter, so Kazama thought Tsuda's blood vessels would burst going beyond that lol

Kazama says he's super happy that Tsuda got to have a lot of regular acting and voice acting jobs. But Kazama just wants people to know that he's been aware of Tsuda's charm for more than 20 years now. A lot earlier than most people have lmao.

On what went on behind of the scenes of a popular scene in JJK:

Says there's a particular scene that highlights Nanami. He wondered how he'd do it, since that scene was originally in the manga. The producer told him what the mangaka said was Nanami's feelings during that scene, but Tsuda and the staff are free to play it out as they like. The director also told Tsuda to do it the way Tsuda thinks it should be acted. Leave no regrets. Like in the making of the drama Saiai, Tsuda feels that hit series like Jujutsu Kaisen are made with a lot of love from the staff, and this love is reflected in the tiny details. He believes that viewers could really tell from that.

Anecdotes from Namikawa Daisuke, who he's voice acted with in a number of works

Namikawa Daisuke says Tsuda's acting method is something unique to Tsuda. It can't be learned.

Namikawa describes Tsuda as a sloth with a nice voice. Tsuda: LOL. Say something nicer!

Tsuda would just contact him whenever, going, "I want to eat soon."

Namikawa: I'm not your mom!! When I text back, "When are you available?" He doesn't reply. He probably isn't feeling up to it right then. Staff: How long do you have to wait for a reply? Namikawa: At the latest, he leaves me on read.

In his latest movie My Home Hero, it is Tsuda's first time playing a villain. Said he had fun doing it. He was asked to make the character very quirky, which really pleased him as an actor. Sasaki Kuranosuke would make pleased faces due to the littlest things Tsuda would do, and it really pleases Tsuda in return.

On his family

Tsuda has 2 kids, a daughter in middle school and a son in grade school. It was his first time talking about his children in a show. Says no one ever asked, so he never had an opportunity to talk about it.

During holidays, Tsuda never answer work calls from his manager. He wants his day offs to be dedicated to playing with his children.

Wakako-san was just fangirling over Tsuda this whole episode lol "Ah, so cute!"

Tsuda talks about how his children won't speak with him if they haven't seen each other for a long period of time, and it makes him feel lonely.

His kids watch anime, and some of them are ones he's in. When he mentions this to his children, they're like, "I know." But they never try to talk to him about it. Tsuda: Why??

His kids love Detective Conan, and Tsuda actually is in the latest movie. (The host, Hayashi Osamu, uses this opportunity to flex and share that he's appeared in a Conon work before too LOL)

Tsuda says his daughter is a bit eccentric like him. When he asked her what she'd like for her birthday, she asked for a biwa (musical instrument), leaving him very baffled. In the previous years, she asked for a pocket watch, ship in a bottle, kemari (ball from a sport back in ancient Japan) Tsuda: Huh…

Tsuda says that now that the borders between countries are dissolving thanks to the internet and social media, he wants them to strengthen their identity as a Japanese person who lived in Japan by attending lessons for Nohgaku (a traditional style of Japanese theater).

Says experiencing something is also remembering what's tough. How there's a disparity with your imagination and experience. For example, we all know that getting scalded is hot. But actually getting scalded is hotter than you would have imagined.

Tsuda talked about he wasn't an elite. If anything, acting may be the thing he's worst at. But he believes life has consolation matches. (Meaning, even if you fail once doesn't mean you're completely out of the running) Being an early bloomer isn't everything.

10 RICHEST ANIME CHARACTERS OF ALL TIME

These guys certainly have more money than they can spend. Many kissanime fans love the variety of protagonists. Specifically, these anime characters will surely make you sad about the contents of your own wallet. We'll have to deal with this, because today we evaluate the richest characters in the anime.

1.  Takishima Kay (Special Class A)

For those who are not familiar with the anime of 2008, this is a story about elite students studying in special class A who have earned their status thanks to their academic achievements. Kay Takishima is one of the main characters, as well as the number one student in the school, and in addition, perhaps the richest of the group.

From issuing a check to buy a house at the first whim to a family estate the size of an entire village ... The financial situation of high school student Kay can be envied, to say the least.

2. Tamaki Suo (Oran High School Dating Club)

The Oran School Dating Club introduced the world of bored major students to many young anime artists. And at the top of the food chain, undoubtedly, is Tamaki Suo, who is respected even at this school for being extremely rich in both his own superiority and charisma.

However, Tamaki inflicts a lesser blow on the finances of the audience, as Haruhi introduces him to “simple things”, and he is more and more interested in these less bourgeois products and events.

3.  Ciel Phantomhive (Dark Butler)

They jokingly say that the rich sell their souls to the devil, but in The Dark Butler this joke can sound pretty close to the truth. After the tragic death of both parents, Ciel became the sole heir to the Phantomhive family. Subsequently, Ciel became the owner of Funtom Corporation - a company known for its toys around the world.

As a child, at the age of 13, Ciel is one of the richest people in England. He managed to strengthen his family name and wealth, despite the tragedy (although a significant part of his achievements could not have been accomplished without the help of Sebastian).

4. Daisuke Kambe (Rich Detective. Balance: Unlimited)

Another trailer for this anime created a stir on social networks. And even though the anime was paused after two episodes due to the current circumstances of the coronavirus, the first two episodes give a deep understanding of the rich life of Daisuke Kambe.

Despite the fact that the handsome detective is declared as a millionaire, Daisuke probably has much more money, since he is able to pay one billion on the spot to the Arab prince, while maintaining his unlimited balance. Not to mention the size of his personal plane and his ability to compensate for any damage to property that he inflicts, we can confidently say that this character is richer than imagined.

5. Robert Edward O. Speedwagon  (JoJo's Incredible Adventure)

Hirohiko Araki created an anime universe rich in many aspects, but one of the characters seems to possess greater material wealth than any other. Despite the fact that Robert Speedwagon is mainly represented in the first and second parts of the series, its influence extends to the next two seasons.

With money from the oil trade in the United States, Robert became the founder of the Speedwagon Foundation, a powerful and influential organization connected with the underworld and the paranormal.

6. Seto Kaiba (Yugio!)

In the original series, most remember Seto Kaibu as Yuga's main opponent. His influence may directly depend on his strategic intelligence, but the creation of his own company before graduation also plays an important role. However, fans cannot really envy Kaiba for his wealth, as his role and fate in the anime are pretty sad.

7. Kaguya Sinomiya (Lady Kaguya: in love as in war)

In this anime, we literally immediately discover that Kaguya is ugly rich. From her point of view, as the daughter of one of the richest men in Japan, the viewer will quickly find out that there is nothing that you cannot buy; although love does not seem to obey this rule.

Unlike many others, Kagui’s wealth can sometimes be seen as a weakness, given that this has led to a too comfortable and secure life. Kaguya is very inexperienced in many ways to such an extent that sometimes she lacks common sense. Not to mention the fact that wealth is very intimidating for her romantic interest throughout the series.

8. Bulma (Dragonball)

This long-standing "best girl" in the anime of childhood of many people is hard to forget. Even harder to forget her rich past.

Although it is not known how rich her family is, Bulma's father was the inventor of capsule technology, which revolutionized the way things were transported by making them pocket-sized. Being the only child of Dr. Briefs, Bulma will inherit everything from him, which makes her the richest character in the anime.

9. Nagi Sanzenin (Hayate Battle Butler!)

Even among the rich, there is a threshold beyond which someone is so rich that it’s just ridiculous to present all this money at their disposal. In this upper echelon is Nagi Sanzenin.

Being the only heiress of the state of Sanzenin, Nagi is constantly at risk, which is the main component of the anime. The amount of danger her life is constantly exposed to is natural for those who are able to spend 20 trillion yen in jest.

10. Mina Tepes (Dance on the Vampire Embankment)

At the moment, there may not be a richer anime character than the vampire queen Mina Tepes. You might think that wealth is connected with the situation, but some of Mina’s financial transactions go beyond all the richest royals. netizenbuzz

From buying a whole island off the coast of Japan to create a kingdom of vampires to paying off Japan’s public debt of 40 trillion yen, it’s hard to estimate how much money it has access to. In addition, the luxurious lifestyle that she maintains throughout the anime clearly shows that she never lacks money. Undead life seems to have many reasons for envy.

1. What was the first fandom you got involved in?

The first I got involved in? Not wrote, but just... involved. Mh. It’s gotta be One Piece, that’s where I discovered fanart and fanfiction for the first time. First fic I ever read was some self-insert love-triangle between a Mary-Sue and Luffy and Ace and I absolutely loved it because the mere fact that here, for free, I just got to read about my favorite characters and my favorite anime was absolutely mindblowing.

15. Is there an obscure ship which you love?

I mean. 75% of the ships I love are “obscure”. I... I always find the very obvious mainstream ships... boring. I mean, sometimes I find them nice in canon, but mostly I find canon to provide enough about them that I don’t really need fandom to get more of it, you know? Or, which also often happens, I find the mainstream ships have more of a very strong friendship-dynamic, or even a sibling-dynamic in some cases, and I just can’t really find it in myself to want to see them in a romantic way.

So, if I have to pick an, as in one, obscure ship, I will have to go with my top OTP. Jagnus. Jace and Magnus literally lived together, in both the show-canon and the book-canon, yet somehow it is an “obscure” ship. I mean, not somehow, we all know why. It’s the unwritten fandom rule of “canon mlm shall NEVER EVER BE BROKEN UP HOW DARE YOU SHIP ONE WITH SOMEONE ELSE”. You have no idea how often that rule has come between me and my OTP. Basically every time there is a canon mlm ship, really.

And this in no way or shape means to criticize those who only ship canon and are content with it, you do you, but I do find the lack of creativity in shipping in fandom where there is a canon mlm ship... really damn boring. Fandoms without canon mlm representation have the wildest constellations of ships, have a far broader variety of content, but when there is canon mlm, the majority of a fandom tends to just happily sit down with it and hug it and prefer not to be creative with the content and the shipping. And as a certified multishipper, I don’t really get that - like, even if you like the canon, you could have multiple ships?

17. Who was your first OTP and are they still your favourite?

My first OTP was Shere Khan/Bagheera, because gods do I love Jungle Cubs. And while other ships I interact more with have pushed it off the throne, if I see any form of Sheregheera content, I am immediately sucked in, no questions asked, no hesitation. I am utterly in love with this very rare, small, very obscure actually, ship and I will always love it and it still is one of my favorites.

23. Name a fic you’ve written that you’re especially fond of & explain why you like it.

Ooof. Interesting one. I’ve done a variety of PJO fics I’m particularly fond of in previous versions of such a question, so let’s go with something else this time. “The Lost Soulmarks”. It’s, at this point, probably my own personal most reread story. I just reread it the other night, actually. It just - it hits all of the right spots in what I want from a fic. Very often, I write to please my readers, with “What do my followers like most?” in my mind at least to a certain degree, but some things are absolutely self-indulgent. And I should really write more absolutely self-indulgent fics because those are the ones I myself keep coming back to. It has ABO-verse, it has soulmates, it’s Jace-centric, with lots of love, misunderstandings but not the kind where one of them is to blame but rather where it’s due to the circumstances, it’s really emotionally painful, but pays off in the end. It’s... seriously those are all the things I love.

📖 Healer and Firestarter verse.

This is supposed to be random, you know. ;) But I'm fine with it. So, let's see.

Let's begin at the beginning. There are those who can heal virtually any wound or illness. Those are Healers. Healers are always bonded to a Firestarter - Firestarters are fire made flesh (in their own words). Firestarters are immune to fire (the stronger they are, the more immune they are. The strongest of Firestarters could happily bathe in hot lava - and many of them have.)

These things are standard to all Firestarter/Healer universes: they are often regulated by the Guild, which is a world-wide organization for both types. The Guild sees to it that properly registered Firestarters/Healers get training and ensuers that they have housing and a stipend. Often the Guild will arrange for parties where Firestarers and Healers can meet one another in the hopes that they will bond. Sometimes the Guild is corrupt - depends on my mood of the moment.

Not all Firestarters/Healers belong to the Guild, though non-registered ones are rare. Firestarters and Healers have special privileges in certain regards. Harm a bonded Healer and if you're lucky the Firestarter will scorch you to the bone. If you're unlucky, the Healer will deal with you. And since a Healer's secondary powers involve plant control (because life energy) then "painful" is the least thing it is. You will pray for pain. And that's for a regular Healer. If for some reason a Healer has gone corrupt (usually because of torment or other stressful situations) then it gets ever so much worse.

Stories are told about what corrupt Healers have done to those who offend them. Those stories do not allow for peaceful sleeping at night. But Healers and Firestarters can protect each other and themselves without fear of retribution - it's legal to kill in self-defense and there is no Firestarter that can lie to a Healer.

There are also Healer Cats and Fire Cats. Those can bond with their opposite (Healer Cats to Firestarters, Fire Cats to Healers) and the bond is almost as close as Firestarter/Healer. Cats are human-intelligent and capable of speaking human languages but lack (of course) opposable thumbs. Healer Cats are almost always white and Fire Cats come in any color of flame. The same holds true for Healers and Firestarters, in regards to their hair.

Frequently the power runs in families, though it's been known for a family of Healers to produce a Firestarter or a Firestarter clan to produce a Healer.

The highest ranking of Firestarters and Healers are known as the First Flame of [insert country here]. Known First Flames are Kaiba Seto and Motomiya Daisuke (once he grows up). Known First Healers are Mutou Yuugi and Ichijouji Ken (once he grows up).

If a Firestarter is strong enough and of the correct temperment, it's not impossible for their fires to frost over, transforming from masters of fire to masters of ice. A famous example of this is Marufuji Ryou, who frosted over in the underground against Inukai. This disqualified him from being a future First Flame. He doesn't care. Most Frostflames are looked upon with fear and worry.

With the correct drugs, a Healer or Firestarter's power can be temporarily negated. They don't like this but there are occasions when it's neessary or useful. If used too often, these drugs can (and often have) lead to a corrupted Healer or Firestarter.

1) Ultimate OTPs:

Prideshipping and Rivalshipping make my heart glow like no others.

2) A ship you’ll always 💜??

I shipped Daisuke and Ken from Digimon 02 before I even understood what shipping was. Ken Ichijouji and Seto Kaiba were the two characters I gravitated to back then; that YGO and Kaiba stayed a constant for me while Digimon faded away probably speaks to YGO having the stronger cast and story (for myself anyway). But I still have warm nostalgia for Dai/ken.

It’s hard for me to imagine ever falling away from Pride and Rival. They’re special ships to me, and I’ve been using them for escapism for quite a while now. If Dai/ken was my nascent ship, Prideshipping was my first true ship.

It took a while for me to get into shipping, because shipping in the YGO fandom used to be kind of a cringefest. But when I did fall for Pride, I fell very hard and very fast. A few years later I fell for Rivalshipping, though much more gradually. But now I’d say both are about equally lovely to me, in their own ways. Trust/shipping has stuck around in my heart too, but in a more quiet way.

3) Current obsessions??

I’m fixated on YGO because I’m weird. Otherwise, obsession is much too strong of a word. I’ve been browsing the Ryo/kira tags on Tumblr and Pixiv lately. As in Ryo and Akira from Devilman. ::spoilers for a 45-year-old manga:: More so than canon or actual romance, I think I like the ideas swirling inside their relationship. That Satan fell in love with a human, and in his quest to destroy mankind was doomed to also destroy the one he loved. (All the while, if things had been different, maybe Akira could’ve loved him back.) The manga is messy as heck, but that ending had honest poignancy.

A lot of morally ambiguous and ambiguously gay characters can thank Ryo Asuka for their existence, for the better or the worse. (Given Ryo Bakura was named after him as well, and the YGO manga makes a point of contrasting Ryo’s complete disinterest in women with the others acting like horndogs, I do wonder if maybe KT wrote Ryo as a gay man.)

4) A ship you never thought you’d like??

Uh… I got nothing. But I’m happy I dragged you into the Prideship zone, DeLurk. It’s more fun having you here with me.

6) A ship that should be canon??

I’m with you on Madoka and Homura from PMMM. I don’t even ship those two myself, but the writers are so clearly trying to have their cake and eat it too with them. Nanoha and Fate from MGLN are in the same boat, where the writers refuse to make canon what seems to be canon, for the sake of homophobic plausible deniability.

With YGO, I don’t think any ship should’ve become canon, including my own beloved ships. I’m kind of glad KT has been so hands-off with shipping too.

It was in looking over discussions of ambiguous gay themes in shonen and seinen manga series that I really had to come to the conclusion it was a deliberate choice on the writer’s part to leave DSoD open to the interpretation that Seto has romantic feelings for Atem, while also very decidedly not being canon. They knew they would be inviting that interpretation. I also think it’s incredibly naïve to believe content creators are unaware of shipping culture. But even then, I don’t want Prideshipping to be canon. I can see how precious other ships are to other fans, and I know how important that kind of escapism can be. This isn’t a Homura/Madoka situation where one character is blatantly in love with the other. People will see a special rivalry or friendship between Seto and Atem, and that’s lovely too. My primary reading of the film is one of grieving, fractured bonds, and ultimately friendship. Just don’t tell me they hate each other. You really weren’t paying attention at all if you think that.

7) A canon ship you hate???

A lot of the time, I have little interest in canon ships. I remember finding Harry and Ginny in the HP books bland, most romance films do nothing for me, etc. I think series where romance isn’t a focus allow for more complex and prolonged character interactions, and that’s why shipping characters from those series can feel so much richer than canon romance stories.

8) A ship you shipped for years??

Pride, Rival, Trust. You know.

I’ll have gentle bouts of adoration for Dai/ken, Vegeta and Bulma of DBZ, and for Kyoko and Sayaka of PMMM too.

9) A ship everyone 😍 but you don’t care for?

If it’s not a ship I like, then it’s a ship I don’t care for. I’m not someone to have NOTPs though (unless we’re talking about something like Adopt). I’m very ship-and-let-ship. Just enjoy your ships.
