My offering for the @daredevilexchange! My giftee was @meow-in-the-mix who prompted "From the Start" by Laufey. I wanted to recontextualize some classic panels from the comics with a manga-style spin. I hope you like it!

list 3 positive things about your current fandom(s)

a) I love that the Daredevil fandom has been kept healthy with several events over the years: shout out to @daredevilexchange for all the work they've done! b) My mattfoggy buddies are all so sweet and supportive; I know I can always count on someone to leave a comment on my fics even if they're occasionally a bit niche! c) I'm currently loving the surge in podficcing! We've not only got longtime veterans doing podfics for other people's work, but several of us have dipped our toes into the waters and have begun to podfic our own work. Not only a neat part of fandom but a step toward some more enjoyable reading for our friends who primarily use screen readers.

2. a headcanon you weren't sure about at first but have come to like!

I think at first I wasn't super big on the whole "Mike is in love with Foggy and obnoxious about it" thing, but as anyone familiar with my fics knows I've since come to embrace it.

8. you hope more people will come to appreciate ___ (a ship, a trope, an episode, etc)

Honestly I'd just like people to write more fics and draw more art directly inspired by comics storylines, especially some of the older stuff! That's what I'm hoping to get people to do with my upcoming DD comics bingo event. :D

11. if you're a writer or artist, what fic or piece of art are you proud of making?

At the moment I'm really proud of Hearsay, which is a comics volume 1 wip. I just think it's very tightly written.

12. compliment someone else in your fandom

@mutuallyprime is as lovely and supportive as it gets! You can count on her to boost you up if you need it 🥺 and she's written some truly great fics! The DD 2003!Matt/Milla fic is never leaving my brain.

17. the thing in canon that everyone loves and that you also love

Already answered this one with Matt and Foggy's friendship, but I suppose I also love their frequent divorces. 😌 Great source of drama, I think we can all agree about that.

23. the fandom you're curious about because of a mutual

lol sorry this is a boring answer but at the moment... none! I have in the past however been influenced to watch things, including Hannibal (loved it), Interview with the Vampire (loved it), and BBC Merlin (hated it lmao).

24. how has fandom positively impacted your life?

I've made so many friends!! It's lovely to wake up in the morning and be able to go and say hi and chat about this thing we're all obsessed with. Far less lonely. :D

25. a piece of advice for taking care of yourself in fandom spaces

literally don't listen to anybody telling you you're doing fandom wrong because you do/don't do x, y, or z. it's your life and anybody espousing these opinions has a very narrow and limited view of other people's interiority. get the hell out of there if you see a post like this. you deserve better.

Hey, I'm just getting back into the Daredevil fandom after falling away for a couple of years. I understand if not since a lot of people are uncomfortable @ing people, but do you have recs for blogs to follow? I love your blog btw

Welcome back to the fandom! 💖

I don't follow a ton of blogs; I mostly just obsessively check the "Matt Murdock" tag like I'm checking my fridge for food.

But @daredevilexchange is important to follow to stay up-to-date on exciting fandom events, and @daresplaining is the go-to blog for all things comics, and @charliethomascoxuniverse and @infinitecharliecox are my favorite blogs for Charlie content!

I hope this helps? And if anyone who sees this wants to sound off in the notes and recommend other favorite blogs, I'm sure Anon will appreciate it!

Fandom Events in 2023

At the start of the year the Avocados took part in a round robin challenge for Sticking It To The Man, in which 6 of us wrote a fic together! I would love to do this again.

The @daredevilexchange held a prompt fest in February, in which I posted 3 fics/art! One of these also started a collab with @udekai for our BADminton series!

In March the Avocados had our Secret Satan exchange in which I wrote Let me spin myself into yarn for @feenyxblue!

Through the year I wrote a few shorter prompted things - from our no prompt left behind challenge on the server, and also from Tumblr requests!

In October we had the @daredevilexchange where I wrote 2 fics, The City That Never (Always) Sleeps, and You know it breaks my heart in half, in half.

Upcoming Plans

I've just started the @killacharacterbingo, 4 fics in, and I hope to finish that next year! I've got a few longterm wips I want to bring back out and actually get finished, and not burnout with constant event pressures.

Writing Reflection

This year has felt quieter. I wrote about half what I did last year, and nothing can compare to 2021. It's been busy IRL, and I've felt like I've been in and out of burnout, but we're getting there!

Having a community online has been a lifesend, and even if I haven't been posting it, we've had plenty of brainrot opportunities, which I'm glad for! I also started to dabble in original fic, and that's slow going, but I'm also writing a bit more through starting DnD, and having text-based rp sessions in between, which are amazing!

Community is everything, and I'm so glad to have met everyone I did, you all hold a special place in my heart. Where else are you going to be able to cry about Matt and Foggy at 2 in the morning and there be someone to listen?

Trophy Husband

Done for the @daredevilexchange Daredevil and Defenders Promptfest 2023!

What if:  Matt needs a fake Husband for his fancy Lawyer-gala/ University-reunion to impress some people and look successful. So he asks Frank to be his plus one at the event. Franks not impressed at all.

BUT He made a deal with Matt to be his fake Husband at a veteran meet-up to impress is old military friends and superiors.

There is a difference between sound and noise. Sound provides information, something that can be translated into meaning and then further translated into an action. Noise, on the other hand, is the opposite of information. It confuses and distracts, and means nothing beyond rumbling and buzzing and grating and screeching. My gift for @metaderivative for @daredevilexchange! The prompt was a song called “Fire and Rain” by James Taylor!

I pinch hitted and wrote You know it breaks my heart in half, in half for the @daredevilexchange, and was expecting it to take a good few weeks, but had a morning of being possessed by the writing gods and created a fic I was really happy with in a few days!

29. Favorite line/passage you wrote this year?

I read questions like this and immediately forget everything I've ever created. A passage that still gives me chills is:

“We got you. You’re going to be okay Matty.”

He wasn’t used to hearing Foggy lie.
