From AFP via Phys.org:
New Zealand mayor goes nuclear after Trump claims US 'split the atom'
January 21, 2025
A small town mayor in New Zealand has picked a nuclear fight with Donald Trump, after the freshly sworn-in US president heaped praise on American scientists for splitting the atom.
Trump's inauguration address rattled off a list of crowning American feats such as ending slavery, launching into space, and the moment they "split the atom".
The mayor of Nelson in New Zealand's South Island seized on the sub-atomic slight, pointing out that work to split the atom was actually pioneered by Kiwi-born physicist Ernest Rutherford.
"I was a bit surprised by new President Donald Trump in his inauguration speech about US greatness claiming today Americans 'split the atom' when that honor belongs to Nelson's most famous and favorite son Sir Ernest Rutherford," mayor Nick Smith wrote on social media.
Credited with splitting the nucleus of an atom during experiments at UK's Manchester University in 1917, Rutherford was "the first to artificially induce a nuclear reaction by bombarding nitrogen nuclei with alpha particles", Smith said.
He added that he would invite the incoming US ambassador to visit the Rutherford memorial in Nelson, population 50,000, "so we can keep the historic record on who split the atom first accurate".
Widely regarded as the "father of nuclear physics", Rutherford was awarded the Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 1908 for earlier work on radioactivity.
He remains one of New Zealand's most famous sons, and his face still adorns the country's $100 bill.

NASA's 3D-printed antenna takes additive manufacturing to new heights
by Kendall Murphy, NASA January 22, 2025
In fall 2024, NASA developed and tested a 3D-printed antenna to demonstrate a low-cost capability to communicate science data to Earth. The antenna, tested in flight using an atmospheric weather balloon, could open the door for using 3D printing as a cost-effective development solution for the ever-increasing number of science and exploration missions.
For this technology demonstration, engineers from NASA's Near Space Network designed and built a 3D-printed antenna, tested it with the network's relay satellites, and 1 k~hÎ an on a weather balloon.
The 3D printing process, also known as additive manufacturing, creates a physical object from a digital model by adding multiple layers of material on top of each other, usually as a liquid, powder, or filament. The bulk of the 3D-printed antenna uses a low electrical resistance, tunable, ceramic-filled polymer material.
Using a printer supplied by Fortify, the team had full control over several of the electromagnetic and mechanical properties that standard 3D printing processes do not. Once NASA acquired the printer, this technology enabled the team to design and print an antenna for the balloon in a matter of hours. Teams printed the conductive part of the antenna with one of several different conductive ink printers used during the experiment.
For this technology demonstration, the network team designed and built a 3D-printed magneto-electric dipole antenna and flew it on a weather balloon. A dipole antenna is commonly used in radio and telecommunications. The antenna has two "poles," creating a radiation pattern similar to a donut shape.
Testing
The antenna, a collaboration between engineers within NASA's Scientific Balloon Program and the agency's Space Communications and Navigation (SCaN) program, was created to showcase the capabilities of low-cost design and manufacturing.
Following manufacturing, the antenna was assembled and tested at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, in the center's electromagnetic anechoic chamber.
The anechoic chamber is the quietest room at Goddard—a shielded space designed and constructed to both resist intrusive electromagnetic waves and suppreseo /gr emission to the outside world. This chamber eliminates echoes and reflections of electromagnetic waves to simulate the relative "quiet" of space.
To prepare for testing, NASA intern Alex Moricette installed the antenna onto the mast of the anechoic chamber. The antenna development team used the chamber to test its performance in a space-like environment and ensure it functioned as intended.
Once completed, NASA antenna engineers conducted final field testing at NASA's Columbia Scientific Balloon Facility in Palestine, Texas, before liftoff.
The team coordinated links with the Near Space Network's relay fleet to test the 3D-printed antenna's ability to send and receive data.
The team monitored performance by sending signals to and from the 3D-printed antenna and the balloon's planned communications system, a standard satellite antenna. Both antennas were tested at various angles and elevations. By comparing the 3D-printed antenna with the standard antenna, they established a baseline for optimal performance.
In the air
During flight, the weather balloon and hosted 3D-printed antenna were tested for environmental survivability at 100,000 feet and were safely recovered.
For decades, NASA's Scientific Balloon Program, managed by NASA's Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia, has used balloons to carry science payloads into the atmosphere. Weather balloons carry instruments that measure atmospheric pressure, temperature, humidity, wind speed, and direction. The information gathered is transmitted back to a ground station for mission use.
The demonstration revealed the team's anticipated results: that with rapid prototyping and production capabilities of 3D printing technology, NASA can create high-performance communics ion antennas tailored to mission specifications faster than ever before.
Implementing these modern technological advancements is vital for NASA, not only to reduce costs for legacy platforms but also to enable future missions.

CERTAIN drives ethical AI compliance in Europe
EU-funded initiative CERTAIN aims to drive ethical AI compliance in Europe amid increasing regulations like the EU AI Act.
CERTAIN — short for “Certification for Ethical and Regulatory Transparency in Artificial Intelligence” — will focus on the development of tools and frameworks that promote transparency, compliance, and sustainability in AI technologies.
The project is led by Idemia Identity & Security France in collaboration with 19 partners across ten European countries, including the St. Pölten University of Applied Sciences (UAS) in Austria. With its official launch in January 2025, CERTAIN could serve as a blueprint for global AI governance.
Driving ethical AI practices in Europe
According to Sebastian Neumaier, Senior Researcher at the St. Pölten UAS’ Institute of IT Security Research and project manager for CERTAIN, the goal is to address crucial regulatory and ethical challenges.
“In CERTAIN, we want to develop tools that make AI systems transparent and verifiable in accordance with the requirements of the EU’s AI Act. Our goal is to develop practically feasible solutions that help companies to efficiently fulfil regulatory requirements and sustainably strengthen confidence in AI technologies,” emphasised Neumaier.
To achieve this, CERTAIN aims to create user-friendly tools and guidelines that simplify even the most complex AI regulations—helping organisations both in the public and private sectors navigate and implement these rules effectively. The overall intent is to provide a bridge between regulation and innovation, empowering businesses to leverage AI responsibly while fostering public trust.
Harmonising standards and improving sustainability
One of CERTAIN’s primary objectives is to establish consistent standards for data sharing and AI development across Europe. By setting industry-wide norms for interoperability, the project seeks to improve collaboration and efficiency in the use of AI-driven technologies.
The effort to harmonise data practices isn’t just limited to compliance; it also aims to unlock new opportunities for innovation. CERTAIN’s solutions will create open and trustworthy European data spaces—essential components for driving sustainable economic growth.
In line with the EU’s Green Deal, CERTAIN places a strong focus on sustainability. AI technologies, while transformative, come with significant environmental challenges—such as high energy consumption and resource-intensive data processing.
CERTAIN will address these issues by promoting energy-efficient AI systems and advocating for eco-friendly methods of data management. This dual approach not only aligns with EU sustainability goals but also ensures that AI development is carried out with the health of the planet in mind.
A collaborative framework to unlock AI innovation
A unique aspect of CERTAIN is its approach to fostering collaboration and dialogue among stakeholders. The project team at St. Pölten UAS is actively engaging with researchers, tech companies, policymakers, and end-users to co-develop, test, and refine ideas, tools, and standards.
This practice-oriented exchange extends beyond product development. CERTAIN also serves as a central authority for informing stakeholders about legal, ethical, and technical matters related to AI and certification. By maintaining open channels of communication, CERTAIN ensures that its outcomes are not only practical but also widely adopted.
CERTAIN is part of the EU’s Horizon Europe programme, specifically under Cluster 4: Digital, Industry, and Space.
The project’s multidisciplinary and international consortium includes leading academic institutions, industrial giants, and research organisations, making it a powerful collective effort to shape the future of AI in Europe.
In January 2025, representatives from all 20 consortium members met in Osny, France, to kick off their collaborative mission. The two-day meeting set the tone for the project’s ambitious agenda, with partners devising strategies for tackling the regulatory, technical, and ethical hurdles of AI.
Ensuring compliance with ethical AI regulations in Europe
As the EU’s AI Act edges closer to implementation, guidelines and tools like those developed under CERTAIN will be pivotal.
The Act will impose strict requirements on AI systems, particularly those deemed “high-risk,” such as applications in healthcare, transportation, and law enforcement.
While these regulations aim to ensure safety and accountability, they also pose challenges for organisations seeking to comply.
CERTAIN seeks to alleviate these challenges by providing actionable solutions that align with Europe’s legal framework while encouraging innovation. By doing so, the project will play a critical role in positioning Europe as a global leader in ethical AI development.

Sooo rambling here cause while it is tmnt related it doesnt exactly fit on my au blog. Its mostly musings and questions.
Firstly thinking about the turtles love languages and what they might be...partly inspired by seeing someone post about their aus version of donnies love language(s) and it got me thinking about it.
Moat versions of donnie seem to have gift giving/an act of service as their love language. I think we see this most, of the animated turtles specifically, with 2003 and Rise Donnie, correct me if im wrong, but the other Donnies still do this very often.
The mikeys seem to have physical touch as theit love language which is why they often are initating contact with their brothers. Its also why usually if the mikeys are huggers their usually the first to hug their brothers.
Unfortuantly I cant exactly pin point the leos and raphs , at least not well, because well admidedly I have a harder time getting into their heads. I have a little bit of what the leos might be but im not
I think some of the leos also have an act of sevice as their love language but not all of them? But I feel they have another love langauage as well.
If I have to take a shot in the dark for the raphs uhh I think it depends but a couple of raphs seem like words of afformation? Please note this is not a stable guess and what yall think about this all!
.....
The next bits kinda pertain to rise specifically namely the ninpo. So it was floating around that apparently the writers intended for the ninpo/mystics the boys have to get stronger/more varried as time went on/they got older and im curious what people think those abilities might be. I have my own ideas and ill share what they are and why but they might be...underwhelming.
Please note this would be the good time line where no one lost their ninpo to the krang and they can all develop it as they get older.
Imma start with leo cause hes the one i was able to think of easily
Mass teleport with no portals. In the fight against shredder leos show to be able to telepodt without making portals first and even swapping with people and its been show he can still use his portals for long distance or group teleporting, or even delayed teleporting so instanious group teleportation doesnt seem too much a stretch.
Healing ngl I am a fan of medic leo, how ever I belive medic leo is more likely to happen after the events of the movie as before hand they seemed to heal fairly fast and may have not had majorly needed a medic nessisarly.
Water manipulation this is a bit...indulgent, my sister who I roll play with a lot and I have always associated the leos with the element of water soo....
Next imma gonna do Donnie
Tecnomancy- obviously donnies ninpo/mystics connect more with his liking of science and technology and his creativity. Being able to simply mentally connecr with and control technology would certainly be a step in the right direction I think. This would actually be the broad term to use and some other abilities I thought of certainnly fall under it.
Data collection- more or less he touches something technology based and any information it has kinda gets for lack of a better word "downloaded" into his brain.
Manipulation of tech- kinda taking already exsiting tech and uaing his ninpo to turn it into something else.
Electricity manipulation- zappy zapps...*cough* ok but in all seriousness being able to manipulate the electricity that powers his tech would help with the powers/flow of the tech.
Mikey
Err ngl a lot of mikeys abilities would probably be inspired by the movie because well yeah
Flight- was show to have at least levitation if not outght right flight in the movie.
Teleportation-seen in the movie as a mystic master
Fire manipulation- already shows shades od this by summoning fires with his nunchucks
Super speed-mikey is extreamly energetic and that could easily translate into this
Just magic just just magic what ever draxum could teach this kid
Raph...I dont got much
Barriers cause hes a protective older brother
Clones cause he was shown to be able to do that in the shredder fight even if we didnt see it in the movie
Maybe an elemental manipulation since his brothers also have those in their power listings
I look at raphs powers and ask myself how to work with this
....
Finally this is an in general thing uhh how does one write a fight scene im working on a fic for my tmnt aus and Im...just how do fight scene?
#rottmnt#tmnt 2012#tmnt 2003#tmnt#musings#wonderings#ninpo stuff#love language#power theories#save rottmnt#tagging that because yes

Hey it’s been a while and I want to talk some more about Yakaku Academy because my blog my rules. For those of you who haven’t read or don’t feel like rereading the initial post, here’s the quick recap:
Yakaku Academy is a night school for students at Hero Schools, like UA, Shiketsu, or Ketsubetsu, who want more time to cover schoolwork in addition to their specialized training. Officially, anyway. Off the records, Yakaku Academy is a school teaching kids how to become better Villains. These students remain undercover as Morally Upstanding Hero/Support Students In Training™ during the day.
So I offhandedly mentioned Dr. Moro, the Nurse and Genetic Engineering Mad Science teacher a while back. Let’s dive into her backstory for a bit shall we?
Dr. Moro is a Shiketsu Support graduate with an interest in genetic engineering and Quirk science. Specifically, she wanted to find a way to upgrade Heroes’ Quirks to make them stronger or lessen their drawbacks.
She was partnered with Godzillio’s agency (That Godzilla knock-off from the Two Heroes movie) for a while. He agreed to undergo an experimental procedure that Dr. Moro was working on. This was all above-the-level stuff, nothing illegal. Unfortunately, there were some unforeseen physical side effects, which in the continuity of Yakaku Academy is the reason that Godzillo is now 400cm/13.5 feet tall.
Enter the HPSC. Sensing potential from Moro’s research, they used the accident as a pretense to basically blacklist her and seized all of her research so they could monopolize it. Luckily, Moro was paranoid enough that her research was encoded and filled with red herring or otherwise nonsense data, and most of it was hidden somewhere the HPSC didn’t find it. Realizing they were outplayed, the HPSC tried to pressure her into joining their less publicly acknowledged R&D departments. Dr. Moro refused, was labeled a Villain, and went on the run.

What is your oc(s) backstory? What is their place in the world of Ninjago? --- Ninjago-Oc-Appreciation
(this took so long because I couldn't decide on who to talk about ghhh but we're gonna go with Miranda from my Legacyverse UA!)
-She is the younger sister of the current EM of Surprise, and is the only one prior to the Secret Ninja Force to be aware of his true nature. The rest of their family is convinced he's just quirky, but Mira helps him "train" with his powers by assisting in his magic shows, while also studying and theorizing how his powers actually function. Ironically, through gathering data on his abilities in (failed) attempts to make sense of them, she discovers a passion for coding, software development, and data management, which leads her to growing out of "believing in magic" and focusing more on science-y things, which her brother has some mixed feelings on.
-During Garmadon's first attack on Ninjago, she ends up badly injured, resulting in losing both her right arm and her right leg. Her brother blames himself for the incident, but ultimately Mira's just glad she's still alive. She's much more upbeat about it than anyone else, taking it in stride as a second chance, and is excited to get her prosthetics. However, they can't find a good match for her (due to not finding the ideal fit, one that works the way she needs, or just being way too expensive) which leaves her stuck in the hospital for a few months. Tired of waiting, she starts developing plans/code for her own custom (and complex) ones. The only problem is, who in the world would have the engineering capabilities to put it together, and have the supplies to even get it off the ground? (Certainly not a bunch of mech-building ninja, of which includes a literal engineering genius, a mechanical technician, a blacksmith, a freaking Nindroid, a Master Builder, and the poor sap her brother happens has a crush on, riiiiiiight?)
-Her place in the world of Legacyverse!Ninjago doesn't really kick in until roughly Season 3 events + she finally builds her prosthetics, as while the ninja are definitely tech savvy in the physical sense, most of them can't program to save their lives (and they can't rely on Pixal quite yet). She works to make sure the ninja's mechs, vehicles, and other machinery stay up to date with the latest software, while also occasionally upgrading them with random apps and whatnot behind their backs (which Jay finds hilarious and Nya...doesn't). She also serves to quick-fix issues with Zane/Pixal that aren't physical or immediately obvious. And (spoilers?) as Nya becomes a ninja a little bit earlier in this universe, Miranda fills in some of gaps on the sidelines that Nya would leave behind as a result.
Super-sketchy concept stuff for her under the cut!
I haven't even decided on a color palette for her yet, might go with some yellows/pastels/warmer colors because you don't usually see that for tech-y characters~
Other lil tidbits I wanted to share (mainly so I don't forget HA)
-Jesse is the only one to call her 'Mira' as a nickname; she tells everyone else to call her 'Randy', although she has no problems with 'Miranda'
-She and Jesse have a "Science vs Magic" rivalry thing going on (because I happen to love that dynamic A LOT and its kind rare). It festers because Mira thinks Jesse loses sight of reality a little too often, while Jesse fears the death of Mira's sense of wonder in turn.
-Her symbol parallels Jesse's: his is a fusion of an exclamation point and a firework (representing surprise/magic) while hers is a fusion of a lightbulb and a question mark (representing science).
-Once her prosthetics are built, she continues to upgrade the software programmed into them. Her arm can serve as a hotspot for free wifi for and can also be used for hacking, while her leg can hotwire vehicles and send out an EMP shockwave when she stomps hard enough (because every leg should be able to do that). Both limbs have bluetooth (because why not) and are connected to the various tech accessories Mira has all over her body (her earrings, her necklace, her left glove, and the small emergency power source on her other thigh). Each accessory has a different main purpose, but the main functions are to alert her of any tech issues and keep track of her limbs should they become detached (which happens a lot when you hang out with trouble-magnet ninjas).
-She is in the same class as Lil' Nelson (Nelson Roise in Legacyverse), which is a year behind Lloyd, Harumi, and most of the Darkley's kids. They bond over being fans of the ninja, constantly being in the hospital for limb-related injuries, and nearly dying in a Garmadon attack (just teen things).

Shouji Mezo X Reader part 57 Remember
That couldn’t have been her. She said her full name to them. It was her no doubt about it, and she was real. It was terrifying to see her in the flesh. To have so much history with her but she had zero history with him. His phone rang again and he answered.
“Shouji, I should have told you…” Deku started. “She didn’t recognize me either.”
“Aizawa was right about keeping anyone from looking for her. It just was too much.” Shouji said.”Why didn’t you tell me she was there?”
“I thought if I did, you wouldn’t come.”
He was right, he’d avoid that university like the plague. Shouji does have a tender curiosity for Y/n’s well being but he didn’t want to meet a Y/n that didn’t remember him and he wasn’t going to stalk her.
“I remember how happy you two were when you guys were together. She did a lot of questionable things, but you both seemed to really care for each other and I just thought if you two met again, you would make each other happy again, like that.” Midoriya explained.
“Midoriya, she may be an entirely new person now.” Shouji said, but then he made his decision. “I’ll stay on the security squad.”
“What! Really?”
“It would be awful if she got hurt again.” Shouji said. “But I’ll try and protect everyone at that gala.”
“Thank you Shouji!”
Shouji hung up and looked back at the hospital selfie they took when they had their official hospital date. There was probably never going to be a date like that again. Well he could only hope that he wouldn’t have a hospital date after his partner got burned to a crisp.
It was just his horror to talk to Y/n again, knowing he didn’t share the same history. He was a stranger to her. She held her hand out like it was their first meeting. It was like his insides were being torn from within, and he had to pretend it was nothing.
Shouji called the club for a more in depth tour, where attacks could hide, sources of power, the whole nine yards. The president of the club said he would give the tour.
Shouji got there and was greeted by the president of the club. He explained he believes an opposing club could be the culprit.
“Why would another club be out for this one?” Shouji asked.
“Ever since (last name) was made my Vice President, she’s been able to bring in more club members with her personality. A lot of members were drawn to our club because of her outgoingness and that she could persuade freshmen at orientation why we were the best club. Because of this other clubs have suffered not having any new members, which means lack of funding for them and more for us.” The president explained. “I didn’t think I’d be able to save our dying club, but when Y/n joined we made it to nationals.”
Shouji wanted to avoid this topic. He was glad Y/n was ambitious and found some direction in her life. She was doing amazing like she always was going to be. No, what he worried about was hearing about the possibility of a love interest.
“She sounds amazing.” Shouji told the president.
“She intimidated you didn’t she?” The president asked. “She scared the hell out of me when we first met. She barked out orders from day one on how to improve our club.”
“Do you think the attacker is going to be after her specifically?” Shouji asked.
“I never really thought about it. I don’t know if they know (last name) is the reason for our club’s sudden popularity. You would think because she’s so loud.”
“It’s only a guess, but she could be the main target.” Shouji said.
“Should I tell her? I don’t want to ruin her big night making her feel responsible for the threats.” The president asked. “But I also want her to be aware…”
“We probably should.” Though they were technically strangers now, he didn’t want her living in the dark. “But it is only a theory. I could be wrong.” Shouji told them.
“Here’s our club- and speak of the devil.” The president said as they opened the doors.
Y/n was in the lab, with a machine and computer beside her. She was conducting some sort of trial, that Shouji did not know. She was in a white lab coat, recording data. She turned to them as she heard the doors opened revealing she was wearing safety glasses.
“Oh hey, showing our security around?” Y/n asked the president.
“Yes, and what are you doing here? All our projects have been wrapped up for the moment.”
“Doing, my own projects. You get me, Mr. Tentacole, just because the assignment is complete, there is always more work to be done!” She sang. “You have your security missions, but you also catch bad guys!” she twirled in the lad.
“Please stop.” The president sighed. “Tentacole thinks you may be a target of the threats.”
“Me?” Y/n was surprised. “What did I do?” she got a little angry.
“It’s only a theory, but with the information we gathered we think another club suffered from lack of recruitment-” Shouji tried to explain.
“Oh because people wanted to hang out with me because I am one of the best scientists at this school, that I should get hurt and have my club’s work ruined all for something so childish!” She yelled.
“It’s only a hypothesis L/n, no one said it’s your fault we’re being targeted at the gala.”
“Not only are we successful in our technical skills, and our decision making, but because we also have social skills, covering all our bases for talents a good club needs, I’m to blame because I excel at all three, I feel like.” She explained. “It just hurts that someone feels so intimidated by me. They want to crush my beautiful success, after everything I've been through.”
The president rolled his eyes, but Shouji’s interest piqued. Did she remember?
“If Deku or Tentacole agree to be your body guard or something will you settle down?” The president asked.
“No! I must find the darkness that hides behind cut up magazine threats, and strangle them with my bare hands because I control my own fate, success, destiny-” She was going on.
Was she really the same Y/n! It really seemed like it.
“Its illegal to strangle someone.” The president told her.
“I have proof they were threatening me! Tentacole just a little strangle? You would understand right?” Y/n begged.
Her (colored) eyes were wide as she pleaded with everything in her heart to be allowed to beat the crap out of her attacker. Shouji turned his gaze away, fearing he might blow his cover of trying to only be the pro hero of security for this event, not a foggy memory.
“It’s only a theory you may be the target.” Shouji told her.
“Well that’s not a no.” She said.
Charming as ever. Voice as smooth as silk, and her soul always felt like she was on victory road. Except that short time she was at UA. The president sighed in annoyance at his extroverted counterpart that was able to fluster a pro-hero, especially one that is not known for being emotional. Being close with his vice president, he always saw things going easy for Y/n, she could charm just about any professor or sponsor, and ten minutes later get hammered with the sports teams, and never face any social consequences. But as he learned more about his counterpart, he saw that Y/n had a troubled past, that she was trying to overcome. With all his knowledge, he had to believe this cruise style life came from something science couldn’t explain, that there was balance trying to be restored.
“Well, I’ll be showing Tentacole the hall we’ll be in for the gala. We’ll leave you to your fun.” The president said taking Shouji out of the lab.
They began walking across campus to get to the fancy hall that the university uses to host their most elegant dinner parties.
“I told you she is very intimidating like a snake!” The president huffed. “You just have to be firm with your no’s with her, because she will choke someone and I don’t know how the hero stuff works, but I can assume you can get in trouble.”
“You think she’ll choke someone?” Shouji asked.
“I’ve seen it! It starts out all cute, or she’s flinging insults, and she gives a warning and goes through with it, every single time.” The president whined. “It was bad when the dean’s son liked her, because he didn’t know what the word no meant, let alone threats. She beat him with a chair, and she almost got expelled, but she was able to convince the sexual harassment case pretty far, and expose the dean for nepotism. I thought I was going to have to dissolve the club, and she turned it around.”
It all did sound like Y/n. She was still the same Y/n.
“She sounds pretty tough.” Shouji commented.
“It’s all in the element of surprise, or thats what I first thought. No one expected a physics major to ever go insane like her. But then when the rumors spread, people started challenging her, and she could whoop ass. She doesn’t remember, but I bet she had some martial arts training.”
“Why wouldn’t she remember that?”
The president realized they spoke too much.
“Keep this to yourself, but before L/n came to this university, she suffered from amnesia. The university almost didn’t accept her, but she took so many exams to prove she belonged. The martial arts is probably a muscle memory rather than a part of the brain that was affected.” The president said. “I felt bad because I also tried to find a way to deny her entry in the club, but she fought tooth and nail.”
So it all was true, she forgot them, there was no doubt, but knowing things were still difficult after losing her memories just made him ache. She was kept away from UA hoping to lessen the possible pain of remembering, but there were new obstacles always trying to stop her.
“That sounds awful.” Shouji said.
“I just assumed the school was giving her everything on a silver platter, and I wanted no part of it. Turns out I was part of one of her fights to belong in a space she is probably above.”
That night, Shouji decided to google Y/n. No social media, but achievements from school newspapers. With his pro hero perks, he was able to find the case of Y/n vs the dean’s son for assault and sexual harassment. There was no lie, chair and all. He then looked up the dean’s son, and found out that right after the case, he got married, which recently his wife committed suicide. Apparently she wanted to legally separate, but there was no suicide note found. That man may have not stopped his reign of terror, but at least Y/n was able to put some fear in him.

Tumultuous Clouds of Jupiter
This stunning compilation image of Jupiter's stormy northern hemisphere was captured by NASA's Juno spacecraft as it performed a close pass of the gas giant planet. Some bright-white clouds can be seen popping up to high altitudes on the right side of Jupiter's disk. (The Juno team frequently refers to clouds like these as "pop-up" clouds in image captions.)
Juno took the four images used to produce this color-enhanced view on May 29, 2019, between 12:52 a.m. PDT (3:52 a.m. EDT) and 1:03 a.m. PDT (4:03 a.m. EDT), as the spacecraft performed its 20th science pass of Jupiter. At the time the images were taken, the spacecraft was between 11,600 miles (18,600 kilometers) and 5,400 miles (8,600 kilometers) above Jupiter's cloud tops, above a northern latitude spanning from about 59 to 34 degrees.
Citizen scientist Kevin M. Gill created this image using data from the spacecraft's JunoCam imager.
JunoCam's raw images are available for the public to peruse and process into image products at https://missionjuno.swri.edu/junocam/processing.

Izuku "Deku" Midoriya could be a hero without a quirk, fuck you
[This is part two] [click here for part one]
[click for google doc]
Next up we have fan-favorite: Katsuki Bakugo.
Bakugo is more obviously an unreliable narrator. He’s young and inexperienced rather than a pro hero. However, it is worth noting that he is a rather intelligent person and, much like Izuku himself, very analytical. He’s got an ego but it mostly (emphasis on mostly, here,) doesn’t get in the way of his assessment of others’ capabilities (hence why he’s so thrown through a loop when he realizes Momo and Todoroki could likely beat him during the battle assessment).
Additionally, Bakugo has one qualification that All Might doesn’t; he knows Izuku on a personal level and has for many years. While All Might’s assessment is based solely on the fact that Izuku doesn’t have a quirk, Bakugo has the opportunity to take other factors (such as personality and intellect) into account. That said, he is still an unreliable narrator and here’s why;
a) He is a teenager.
b) He has a personal bias against Izuku.
c) He doesn’t actually believe what he’s saying (i.e. lying!)
Let’s start with a);
In the official definition of an unreliable narrator, the first example listed is age. Bakugo is still a kid. The first time he says that Izuku cannot be a hero because he is quirkless, they are both four years old. The most recent time he said it he was 14.
Not only does he lack the maturity at this point for any sort of truly objective assessment, he also lacks the experience. All he knows about heroics is what he’s seen first hand. If there’s no quirkless heroes on TV, if all the heroes he sees are the ones with the flashiest quirks, then that’s how he is going to assume reality is. Even Izuku himself, being equally young, says something to the effect of: “all men are not created equal” at the very beginning of the story.
At best, an actual expert can say “here are the restrictions of not having a quirk, here are the requirements of being a hero, this is why they aren’t compatible” but that’s still working off of existing data. The thing about science is, something that is impossible now may not be impossible years from now. (and i’ll touch on this a bit later in a different section, I don’t want to digress too far)
But from what we see, Bakugo’s assessment is entirely subjective and driven by emotion. He is no expert and can’t even make that much of a credible, but disprovable, statement. And this isn’t a criticism of Bakugo as a character, more commentary on the fact that as a kid he has a very narrow worldview, as kids do.
On to point b);
Where as All Might has internalized bias against those without quirks, Bakugo has a more personal bias towards Izuku himself. We see this at every turn during the series and so I don’t feel that it requires much explanation or evidence. Especially since that could be its own separate, several page meta.
However, for the sake of being thorough, I would at least like to explore the source of this personal bias and how it affects Bakugo’s assessment of Izuku and why it would lead him to tell Izuku he cannot become a hero without a quirk.
In Bakugo’s own words, he doesn’t like Izuku, because Izuku is someone who didn’t have a flashy quirk but didn’t give up and kept aiming to be a hero. To this end, Izuku would offer Bakugo help where others would just have assumed that he was fine. This is misinterpreted by Bakugo to be Izuku looking down on him; daring to think he would need the help of someone weaker. While we, as the audience, know it’s due to Izuku’s empathetic nature.
This feeds into a sort of inferiority-superiority complex that starts when they are kids and grows worse as they get older. Bakugo’s initial assessment is that he, having a powerful quirk, is amazing. While Izuku, without any quirk, is the “least amazing”. At first, this is something that he seems to enjoy. He likes having someone to compare himself to that is “objectively” weaker than he is.
In the end, this makes it even worse when Izuku tries to help him or treat him as an equal. To Bakugo, this is a personal insult. Which increases his desire to insist that Izuku is beneath him in status, to the point where it seems almost compulsive. At that point, then, what he says is no longer objective fact but rather a means to put Izuku back in his “place”.
Which is a nice transition for point c;
Bakugo, himself, doesn’t actually believe what he is saying. That is to say, he doesn’t actually believe that Izuku is incapable of getting into UA and becoming a hero. He does, believe, that he is stronger (although he does fear that Izuku may someday surpass him).
Allow me to elaborate.
When Bakugo first hears that Izuku plans to apply to UA, he says that there’s no way Izuku can get in. He’s worse than their classmates because he doesn’t just have a non-flashy quirk; he doesn’t have a quirk at all. He’d die in the exams.
So why do I believe this isn’t what Bakugo believes? Because of everything that happens after that.
After class, Bakugo keeps Izuku from leaving class so that he can further intimidate him. When he does, he makes sure to destroy Izuku’s notes. (Something that would be unnecessary for someone who didn’t stand a chance, anyway. Although it’s certainly possible he does it simply to be cruel) he then explains that he wants to be the only person from Aldera to go to UA.
Not the only one to apply; the only one to go. And if that weren’t enough to drive the point home; he then makes sure to tell Izuku specifically “Don’t dare get into UA” not “Don’t apply” but “Don’t get in”.
At the exams themselves, Bakugo is visibly frustrated that he will be in a different area than Izuku, and thus has no way to purposely sabotage him.
Further, when Izuku does get into UA; Bakugo corners him and reiterates that he told Izuku not to go to UA. He wanted to be the only one to go. He then demands to know what “tricks” Izuku used to go in (It should be noted that Bakugo consistently refers to Izuku’s strategy as tricks throughout the series, such as during the Battle Assessment and when he is accusing Ochako of using Izuku’s strategy during the Sports Festival).
It isn’t until Bakugo sees One For All in use for the first time that he believes that Izuku has a quirk, even after Iida tells him that he used a quirk during the entrance exam. That means Bakugo assumed up until he saw OFA that Izuku was still quirkless. Which means, by default, that he was more willing to believe that Izuku got into UA without the use of a quirk at all.
This point is reiterated again by Bakugo himself when he faces off against Izuku after the Provisional License exam. In which he states that Izuku was always looking at him like he was going to surpass him. This is clearly meant to be a manifestation of Bakugo’s own fears, as we as an audience know that’s not even close to how Izuku regarded him. And that point is stated explicitly by All Might who says that Bakugo “feared” Izuku’s “heart”. This is something he says directly to Bakugo, and Bakugo himself does not dispute it.
Bakugo’s constant insistence in putting Izuku down seems little more than self reassurance of his own status, as well as a personal grudge. Therefore we cannot use it as a basis to support the theory that Izuku would not be able to be a hero without a quirk, especially since this isn’t even something that Bakugo himself necessarily believes.
