I don’t want to classify anything—these situations all suck equally. But I’ve been thinking about the differences inherent in forms of abuse. I’m using the girls as a comparison to talk about Astarion, though all the companions in BG3 carry their fair share of trauma. Karlach was sold and had her heart ripped out against her will, replaced with an infernal machine, for the sole purpose of becoming a soldier and serving in a war that wasn’t hers. Lae’Zel grew up in a harsh, unforgiving society where weakness wasn’t tolerated. She was forged and sharpened like a blade to become an infallible, ruthless assassin in service to Vlaakith. The same can be said for Shadowheart, as if they were two sides of the same coin. Every punishment, every lesson, no matter how terrible, was delivered with the aim of training these "soldiers," dedicating their entire being to a cause. A cause they believed in—Karlach being the exception. Regardless, everything was for a specific purpose, almost regulated. Predictable, logical, consequential. Their results were recognized and approved (especially within the ranks of Shadowheart and Lae’Zel), perhaps even rewarded.
In my opinion, this is different from the abuse Astarion endured. Let me explain. Some of Cazador’s punishments were undoubtedly intended to instill terror and obedience in his vampire spawn, discouraging any form of defiance and shaping them into exactly what he wanted—tools for his own purposes (known only to him). Up to this point, the mechanics are the same as those for the girls. But Cazador is also a sadist, and this is where the dynamic changes, taking on an unpredictable and utterly senseless turn, especially for the one suffering it. It’s about gratuitous cruelty. Pain inflicted and endured without reason—just because. Because he feels like it. Because it amuses him. Because he can. And for the one subjected to this treatment, the mind can’t find a logical explanation to cling to. It shatters. It wanders in search of meaning that doesn’t exist, because the suffering isn’t due to a cause or a transgression—it’s purely a matter of whim.
You can’t tell yourself, I was given a mechanical heart to make me stronger in combat. You can’t say, I killed my training partner to prove to my people that I was the strongest (and be celebrated for it). Or, I tortured those people because I needed to develop these skills to become a better spy. These are horrific motivations, of course, but they’re still explanations that provide meaning. The brain needs meaning—it needs it to avoid breaking apart. It needs to understand, to form connections, to explain things. And if no reason exists, it creates one. And it’s easy to imagine that in a situation like Astarion’s as a vampire spawn, he might have found the meaning of his suffering in himself. He became the cause. I’m being punished because I wasn’t good enough, because I said something wrong, because I’m worthless, because I don’t deserve anything better, because I’m flawed and broken.
Astarion knows that Cazador is a sadistic bastard and that there’s no sense or purpose behind what he does to him. But this is the insidious work the brain does—it’s not rational, it’s not voluntary. Finding meaning is necessary, because otherwise, everything would be chaos, and that would be even more terrifying to conceive.
There’s also the unpredictability that plays a crucial role. Unlike Lae’Zel and Shadowheart, who are punished for some kind of transgression or to learn a lesson—and therefore know when to expect consequences based on their actions—Astarion could just as easily be punished for no reason at all. Simply because his master feels like it. One moment, Cazador is calm; the next, he isn’t. For no apparent reason (and there doesn’t even need to be a pretext—the vampire lord can do whatever he wants with his spawn. He doesn’t have to explain himself, right? They’re slaves with no human rights, unlike Lae’Zel and Shadowheart, who live in a structured and orderly—albeit hierarchical—context. Karlach, in this case, is closer to Astarion in concept).
As a result, the stress is overwhelming. There’s never a moment of peace or respite. You can never know when there will be consequences or for what reason. Everything is too undefined, too volatile, and this keeps Astarion constantly on edge. After all, the horror is inevitable—it will happen sooner or later because you’ll never be good enough, useful enough, quiet enough, etc. It’s exhausting—for the body, the mind, and the spirit. It also instills a fear that is no longer connected to or proportionate to a real, tangible stimulus. It becomes a generalized, ever-present fear and anxiety.
Anyway, just a small reflection on these differences because I need to ramble about things regardless of whether they make sense. By now, you know I write almost everything that crosses my mind, even though I should probably filter it better sometimes…
And yes, I know the girls’ situations are more complex than this. Here, I haven’t addressed many aspects that characterize their experiences and responses to them (like the frightening memory gaps Shadowheart struggles with). I just used a few points to talk about Astarion and what I believe is a unique aspect of his specific type of abuse. I hope I managed to get my point across.

Yan-Poll #38
#MerMay 2025 Special
"And here-" Reaching into the drawer beside his desk, the Professor took out a large stack of documents, placing it before you solemnly. "-are the files and information you need to get started on your own project. What do you say, do you feel up to the task?"
You gulped.
There it was, finally, the chance of a lifetime. After dedicating years to studying marine life, you were finally allowed to work in this field and given an opportunity to prove yourself and your abilities. The IML Research Facility hadn't been your first choice, but it was the only one that accepted you—the field had turned out to be much more competitive than you thought.
As far as you had seen, it was huge. Huge enough to make you sign all kinds of NDA just to visit them for an interview. It was exciting and nerve-wracking at the same time, but you had been very impressed with all the machinery and enclosures you had been shown. They had tanks and machines for every kind of species, they even started successfully housing orcas, as you had been told. Everything was provided, from a place to live free of charge to fresh food three times a day. A perfect environment to study and focus on work without disruptions.
From what you heard from the other workers, the pay was good, and you had enough days off to recharge after the busy work season. Besides, you'd get to work with professionals, trail them for the first few days, and then get assigned your own project to handle how you saw fit. What more could one need?
With nervous hands, you reached for the papers, but the Professor laid his palm down on them before you could. You looked up at him in surprise, finding him smiling warmly and with the confidence of a man his age. He didn't just lead this facility, he was also a well-known face in the scene, giving regular speeches and traveling the world to convey the message of how important it was to take care of the ocean and all its inhabitants.
He was everything you wanted to be.
"I see a lot of potential in you," he admitted, sounding so convincing it almost made you cry. Many had doubted your choices and ambitions, but here, you were welcome. You were between your own kind of people.
"I want you here, at this facility, helping us develop great things for all living beings. But I need you to know..."
Ah, you thought. Here it comes. The catch. It was too good to be true.
However, against your expectations, the Professor's grin widened as he let out a hearty laugh.
"Once you start, you might never want to leave! Most of our researchers just can't separate from their protegees anymore!"
You let out a small laugh, too, as the pressure vanished from your body, the bad news you expected never coming. Nothing wrong with being passionate about your work, right? You could see yourself falling into this pattern as well if everything was as wonderful as you hoped.
"All I need you to do," the Professor instructed, pointing at the pile of documents in front of you. "Is to sign the contract on top of here, and in a few minutes, you'll be out and about, learning the ropes and meeting your new best friend—your new workplace! We also prepared a little welcome treat for you in your room."
The Professor winked at you, fumbling with the folder on top of the papers until he pulled a work contract from it. It seemed to be about a few pages with neat rows of sentences. Many sentences, in a small font, that made it incredibly hard to read.
"Oh, wow, uh, you are so prepared!" you mumbled, taken aback that you were supposed to sign right away. Didn't everybody always say you get some time to think about it? Sleep over it? You couldn't possibly sign it right now, or did you?
"How about I take this home with me and give it some thought and get back to you?" you offered, reaching for the pile of paper when the Professor's hand once again came down on it, this time with an audible thud, tearing the documents from your grip.
"I'm afraid," he sighed, "that isn't possible."
"Why not?"
"Well, it's just..." He got up from his chair, turning towards the impressive wall of photographs and awards behind him with a thoughtful expression.
"We at IML are very strict about our research going out. People out there," he clicked his tongue in disapproval, "they are like seagulls. They just can't get enough and steal everything—even our contracts. We can't risk losing another battle in front of a judge just because they copied and overwrote all of our hard work. They will misuse and abuse all of our creations and studies for their capitalistic goals. All while we fight for those without voices. Once someone leaves the facility... they won't be allowed back. To protect what needs to be protected. You understand that, right?"
The Professor looked back at you with a defeated yet unwavering expression, and you gave him a slow nod. To be fair, you didn't really get it. Weren't those wanting to see the research also interested in protecting the ocean like the IML Research Facility? Yet, you knew firsthand how competitive this field was, given your lack of work opportunities.
Staring at the papers in front of you, you couldn't help but want to read through them before signing something that was so preciously protected. But on the other hand, this might just be the chance. If you left without risking anything, who knew if you'd ever find something as distinguished and aligned with your own goal as this facility was?
(Reasoning and discussions welcome! ♥)

Paintball episode
House watches Young Sheldon as a guilty pleasure. He hates it. He loves it.
Cameron and 13 both discover crochet. They make eachother hats every holiday season. Cameron wears her hat every time the weather dips below 55 degrees.
House develops his own hot sauce line. Wilson finds it tasteful. He gifts Cuddy a few sauces for her birthday. She enjoys it with eggs.

Rafe Cameron x f!reader
𝐏𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠: Season3!rafe x gymrat!reader
𝐒𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐲: in where reader is forced to find a new gym and discovers a new gym partner along the way.
𝐎𝐫
In where rafe develops a gym crush on the new girl and makes a plan to pursue her.
____
Masterlist
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You exhaled sharply, adjusting the straps of your gym bag over your shoulder as you took in your surroundings. New gyms always came with an adjustment period—figuring out the best times to go, where the equipment was, and, of course, the people.
It wasn’t long before someone caught your eye.
Across the gym, near the squat racks, was a guy who looked like he had been sculpted from pure intensity. Buzzed blond hair, a sharp jawline, and a physique that screamed dedication. His gray tank clung to him, drenched from a brutal workout, and the veins in his arms were prominent as he tightened the wrist straps before gripping the barbell in front of him.
Rafe Cameron.
You weren’t from the Outer Banks originally, but you knew enough about the infamous Kook to recognize him. The guy had a reputation—some of it messy, some of it intriguing. But right now, in this gym, all you saw was the way he threw himself into every rep like it was personal.
Your first day passed with subtle glances his way. He didn’t look at you once. Not even when you set up nearby for deadlifts. No distractions. Just work.
But what you didn’t know?
He had noticed you the second you walked in.
____
At first it started small.
You kept seeing him. Every day. Same time. Same workouts. You found yourself checking the mirror, stealing quick glimpses of him between sets. The man trained like he was at war, pushing himself beyond exhaustion, sweat dripping down his temple as he powered through his routines.
It was impossible not to notice him. And, okay, maybe you developed a little gym crush.
But Rafe?
Rafe had already made it his mission to learn your routine.
The first day you walked in, he clocked the way you carried yourself—confident, focused, and strong. You weren’t just here to mess around, and he liked that. By the end of the week, he had your schedule down. If you were here at 6 a.m., so was he. If you came in the afternoon, suddenly that became his time too.
At first, he kept his distance, pretending not to notice you. But he saw everything. The way you adjusted your grip before lifting, the determination in your expression, the little satisfied smile when you hit a PR.
And when you laughed with the front desk guy a little too long one morning? Yeah, Rafe definitely threw an extra plate on his bench press just to remind himself not to get distracted.
One day, it finally happened.
You were adjusting the weight on the cable machine when a voice came from beside you.
“You always train this hard?”
You turned, surprised. Rafe stood there, arms crossed, towel slung over his shoulder, his usual scowl replaced with something closer to amusement.
You arched a brow. “You always stare this much?”
His lips quirked up. Caught. But he didn’t deny it. “Maybe.”
The next day, it was a nod in passing.
The day after that, a comment about your form.
Before you knew it, Rafe had become part of your gym routine.
Spotting each other during lifts turned into casual conversations between sets. Banter replaced awkward silence. And the way his eyes lingered on you? Yeah, that wasn’t just about lifting anymore.
“You free after this?”
You blinked, mid-sip from your water bottle. Rafe stood in front of you, casual but expectant.
“For what?”
He smirked. “Recovery meal. My treat.”
Your stomach flipped. You could pretend this was just about fitness, just two gym friends grabbing food. But the way his blue eyes pinned you in place? You knew better.
You tossed your towel over your shoulder, mirroring his smirk. “Only if you can keep up.”
He chuckled, shaking his head. “Sweetheart, I’ve been keeping up since the day you walked in.”
And just like that, your gym crush turned into something much, much more.

Here's a list of random Beta-focused Horizon headcanons/scenarios I've accumulated over the months bc guess who's my favourite blorbo :3
TW attempted suicide
-Even after the Zeniths are defeated, Beta still experiences panic attacks and traumatic flashbacks when she gets startled or something reminds her of them, when it gets too much to handle she'll curl up, knees to her chest, hyperventilating and basically unresponsive to anyone around her. She also often gets irrational worries that the gang will "make her go back" when she makes a mistake or does something wrong, she knows that this isn't realistic but her mind can't help but make her worry sometimes, poor girl.
-if things get really bad for her, the gang is there to help. Zo likes to sit with her and sing her soothing songs, Varl is always fussing over her and tries to get her anything she might need, a blanket, some food, or maybe just a hug. Kotallo... he wants to help but doesn't know how so he just awkwardly stares and mumbles something about how a warrior must persevere through hardships. Erend is helpless in a similar fashion and sometimes just offers her a drink (much to the dismay of everyone else)
-Beta definitely attempted to take her life at least a couple of times while on the Zenith ship, but the Zeniths would just psychologically punish her in increasingly brutal ways until she stopped trying altogether.
-the Zeniths didn't bother with giving Beta actual meals to eat, instead a small, tasteless pill filled with all the nutrients the human body needs would be dropped off into her room once a day to keep her alive. When she gets to the base, Zo offers her a meal and Beta tells her she's never really eaten anything before and it absolutely blows Zo's mind. She can't believe they'd completely rob her of experiencing one of her senses and such a vital part of being human, and immediately tries getting her used to different tastes and textures. Even though Beta is pretty freaked out by it at first and has trouble handling anything strong or spicy, over time she grows accustomed to it and learns to love Zo's homemade meals and even picks up some basic cooking skills from watching her.
-The gang has taken to teaching Beta all she needs to know about surviving and fighting for herself in the wilds, just in case. Since Aloy is often busy helping people in the West or tracking down clues, Kotallo, Erend, and Varl take turns training with her, meanwhile Zo teaches her all about foraging and herbology.  Especially Kotallo is happy to have a student he can pass all his knowledge from his past battles onto and makes for a very patient and dedicated mentor. He even calls her "young warrior" sometimes during training.
-She also definitely gets her first armor from one of them, I like to imagine her in the yellow-white Oseram stripes (for art see my latest post hehe)
-While training with her, Kotallo and Erend both develop a certain protectiveness over Beta, much like Varl has. Beta is still deathly afraid of machines of any kind, but she's a quick learner and is even able to use her knowledge of chemistry, physics, and technology to her advantage sometimes. The day she strikes her first charger down all by herself is a big cause for celebration in the base, everyone congratulates her on her first hunt and Beta is filled with a sense of pride and belonging like never before.
(lmk what u think of these and if you have any beta related thoughts and headcanons as well !!!)

i feel like its kind of hard to practice magic like binding or baneful magic in general? like i cant just be spitting out hexes on people but i want to know its gonna work when i need it if that makes sense LMAO
I am currently in camp "I do not know why people think binding is baneful."
Well I'm pretty sure people assume it is a free-will-robbing operation, much in the same way that setting boundaries with people is robbing them of their free will to do whatever they want around you.
However, people are not the only targets for such operations. You can cast hexes and bindings towards anything - towards objects, recurring situations, areas, confluences, and concepts.
You can bind traffic at an intersection. You can bind loud sounds that keep you up at night. Or bind yourself to always take your medication at the set time. You could also bind yourself to restrict screen time, or to try and support other healthy habits.
You could try binding the algorithm to remove a certain type of ad from your feeds.
You could bind a tarot or oracle deck to only give sarcastic answers (and undo it later - practicing undoing bindings is important too!).
You could bind your coffee machine to always produce perfect coffee. Does binding the machine affect who makes the coffee? Does it affect how the ingredients are measured? Will it fail to make coffee if it isn't perfect? You could find out!
What is a hex? A hex is nothing. A hex is conjuring energies into someone's life, but they're programmed to be mean. "If you can hex, you can heal." You don't have to harm someone in order to learn how to do these things.
Hex for people's wrongs to come to light -> blessing to bring small artist's work to light. It's the same operation. It can even still be justice or fairness themed.
Hex for someone to understand what they've done -> spell for self-awareness and revealing inner truths.
Hex to burn and agitate someone until they make an action -> spell that compels someone to take action. You can still use red peppers. You can still use fire. Saying, "...don't let my case rest until my doctor returns the paperwork :)" does not make it a different spell than if you say "...don't let him find peace until he flees." It's the same spell.
If you dedicate yourself to healing the kinds of things you want to learn how to wield as curses, then you will be leaps and bounds more prepared to curse someone with the same.
If your interest is creating massive blockages that prevent someone from taking action, learning how to heal and resolve these things will teach you very much about them.
What is the purpose of hexes that you want to cast? To bring justice? To mitigate harm? You can do those things now without harming someone and without a victim.
You can learn to evoke Justice as a component in your spells. Get silly with it. What about a cleansing that evokes Justice to remove unwanted energies from a room? Try it, why not. Why not learn about the correspondences commonly used in binding and hexes, and build relationships with them while you work on other projects?
If you want to learn how to mitigate harm, learn about protections that prevent harm, create safe-feeling spaces, and hide things from unwanted attention.
Learn blessings and cleansings that clear harm and return beneficial energies to a situation.
There are lots and lots of ways you can learn to develop your magic to help you in situations that aren't actively occurring :) You don't have to frame yourself as an aggressor just to practice mending, de-escalating, balancing, and protecting under unhelpful circumstances.

Hi, DGM fandom! I'm jeidafei. You may have seen me in Kougeki-scans' scanlation of D.Gray-Man.
I know Kougeki releases have been delayed for these past few chapters. And people have taken to releasing their own translations on Reddit and MangaDex as early as a few days after the Japanese release. We at Kougeki have asked people to wait if they could. People have told us to, basically, go d*e.
And of course, you are perfectly entitled to say so. You are perfectly entitled to release your own translations and not wait. After all, we at Kougeki are just fans of D.Gray-Man, similar to you. We have zero claim over the series.
I normally stay out of the fray when it comes to quarrels with these 'snipers' until now. When I saw the quality of the translations some of these people are putting out.
(Specifically, Chapter 250 on MangaDex)
Japanese is a difficult language. D.Gray-Man is a difficult manga to translate due to its ongoing status, complex nature and plot twists. I have made mistakes myself that others have pointed out. I have my own interpretations that might be different. I readily forgive mistakes I understand are due to the complex Japanese grammar, and the confusing mysteries of the D.Gray characters.
But these are not it. These are just blatant laziness and lack of basic knowledge of even the most recent developments in D.Gray-Man. Or even simple logic. These are the results of people dishing out sub-par work quickly just to get the most exposure possible.
So while we wait for Kougeki's version, I am going to point out these egregious mistakes. We need transparency so that going forward, you can make your own decisions on whether it is speed or accuracy you are looking for.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The original Japanese text says "7,000 years ago" (七千), not "17 years"(十七). A difference any beginner Japanese learner would notice. Even most D.Gray-Man fans without Japanese knowledge would probably realize something is off based on what we know of the story so far.

The original text says "Do(es) the passion/sentiments run so deep, you must reincarnate into a human who resembles Nea?" (the word 'regret' is simply not there). I think 'passion' or 'sentiments' are more compatible here, considering earlier theories about Tyki, the Noah of Pleasure.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jasdevi is saying they were at their limits anyway and wouldn't be able to keep restraining Apocryphos for long. When Wisely orders them to dispose of Apo, they scream "Oni!" (Demon) which is quite similar to "Onii-san" (Elder brother), but most people would probably know which one is more fitting in this scenario, even without Japanese knowledge.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When Desires asks Wisely if he is just going to set Apo free like that, Wisely explains that this way, Apocryphos (not Desires or Wisely as in the translation), can keep searching for the Heart for them. Again, basic story knowledge.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Wisely didn't say "Fine, enough already"; this bubble is a continuation of the earlier bubble, spoken by Desires. Together, he is saying "Wouldn't you just spit it out already!?"
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In Japanese, many words sound the same and the meaning can only be determined by context or the Chinese characters (kanji) used. In this case, "kikai" can mean either "machine" (機械) or "opportunity" (機会) or "strange" (奇怪), among a dozen others.
Yes, it's difficult, I know. But, you see the kanji. You know the context. I'm sure you can take a guess.
There are a couple more minor mistakes (ones that don't impact your understanding of the story too much). But I'm just going to leave you with one more, the most conspicuous mistake:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The chapter is named "Curse's End" by this translator. Actually, it's the opposite in Japanese. "Owaranu" is a form of "Owaranai" which means "not ending", which fits the revelation of this chapter by Wisely that their 35-year curse has yet to come to an end.
So, there you have it.
As you can see, I'm not shaming people for not being as fluent in Japanese. Not everyone can dedicate almost two decades to learn a language. As I have pointed out, most of these mistakes are rookie-level, and should have been picked up in double-check if that someone is familiar with D. Gray-Man at all. With these nigh unforgivable mistakes, even Deepl and Google Translate are more accurate.
This is a matter of someone not giving enough of a sh*t, plain and simple.
I'm also not gatekeeping scanlation whatsoever. I'm just pointing out the mistakes and actual text because the fandom deserves to know. With the localization drama going on, it proves faithfulness to the actual text and accuracy matters.
Of course, anyone has the right to put out their translation. And I have the right to point out whether they can be trusted. I'm not passing judgment. I'm just providing evidence so the bystanders can decide for themselves.
Lastly, from the bottom of my heart, I thank everyone who has supported the work of Kougeki Scans and waited for our release. I apologize for the delays. We're working on the latest chapter and will release 249 and 250 very, very soon.

Note
Irrespective of any debate on whether or not such a follow-up should even happen, if there were to someday be a sequel series to Gravity Falls of some kind, what if Mabel were to be its central protagonist while Dipper took on the supporting deuteragonist role that she originally had? Could you see that working somehow, giving Mabel the central arc and a new overarching mystery to be invested in just as Dipper had in the original series, or not really? This is something I've pondered for awhile now that I've thought about asking a broader audience (such as say, r/gravityfalls), but figured that it'd likely just get sidetracked by either Mabel-Critics or naysayers shooting down any notion of a sequel series to being with.
Interesting question. I think a Mabel focused spin off or sequel would be interesting. Plus, I think it would fit in pretty well with the other Disney TVA shows with protagonists like her personality type. The question really would have to come down to what would the plot and overall goal of the series be?
Maybe it could be a series about Mabel and Ford having adventures or us seeing more into her day to day life. Maybe even a mystery or big goal that only really she can take on. It would be fun especially given the crew may try to explore more in depth ideas with her besides just the usual Mabel tropes and personality type mainstream fans assume she's about; romance plots and boy crazy episodes.
That's something I've said already I feel Disney seems to find itself stuck in with Mabel, in that all we've seen from her post GF in Disney Channel projects not canonical to the main show, is Mabel trying to get a date. The Call Me Mabel song was about that and her dedicated Chibiverse episode was about that.
Now, of course, these are non canon and more Disney projects than Gravity Falls which probably rely on core character traits rather than expanded lore and while they are still great fun and I enjoyed them a lot, if Mabel is the be the main character for a show, I would want us to see more to her than just that so that the average viewer realizes she is more than just a catchphrase machine that likes boys. That's something Alex Hirsch has said he always wanted Mabel to be seen as and it's sad to me when people just devolve her down to that.
Tumblr media
Of course, the show had its issues with that and it's something many do still debate and discuss. I wouldn't know 100% where such an idea would go and how it would be tackled, but I think whatever it is, Alex would need to approach it differently to how he did with GF. I have faith he could do right with Mabel given she's a character he wouldn't ever wanna butcher, but he needs a team that understands her in ways that perhaps he may not as well get.
IIRC, when Matt Braly was working on Amphibia, his 4 person writing team had 3 women on it, as he felt that was necessary for a show where the main human characters are 3 high school girls. We all know that Gravity Falls infamously had issues with that type of development regarding characters like Wendy. And even Pacifica, who Matt Braly was a huge factor in for her season 2 development, did not get all the way to the end given the series' direction. I think Matt learned that off GF and made sure the same issues didn't arise on Amphibia, and similarly Dana Terrace given how fast but well done Amity's development in TOH was. It's still something I love both those shows for.
So, for a show where Mabel is the main character, I think a similar approach would be needed so that Mabel has the absolute best possible team writing her out to be the best she can be. A team that is like her and gets her in a way that even the show's creator may not.
That or just get Ariel Hirsch to be the main writer given she is basically THE Mabel, lol.

Tumblr media
here’s an introduction of FOR THE LOVE OF LEARNING!!
If you want to be added to the tag list for future chapters, just let a girl know! 💛📚✨
I’ve been working on this fanfic for a while now, really shaping how I want it to play out and bringing all my ideas together. I hope it’s something you’ll be interested in following! I know I have a lot of WIPs going on, and I’ll get to them in time, but it felt like the right moment to finally release this one into the realm. let’s get into it…
Tumblr media
Chapter One: Introduction
There’s a faint click. A red light blinks on.
“Okay. Rolling,” says someone behind the camera.
The campus of Philadelphia College of Education and Human Development buzzes in the background. Pigeons swarm a pretzel stand. A freshman cries on the steps of the registrar’s office. And in the middle of it all, sitting stiffly in a folding chair set up way too close to the student union, is Janine Teagues.
She smiles. Too hard.
“Hi! I’m Janine. Teagues. But people mostly just call me Janine. Unless they’re my professor. Or my boss. Or that one lady who yelled at me in the bookstore because we were out of laminated binder sleeves. Anyway… I’m a junior, education major, and future elementary school hero. I believe every kid deserves to be believed in. And I have five different Pinterest boards dedicated to classroom organization.”
She beams. The smile falters only slightly as a pigeon lands behind her and stares ominously into the lens.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Janine works part-time at the campus bookstore, where she has singlehandedly reorganized the bulletin board six times. She’s known around campus for her bright cardigans, color-coded planner, and tendency to carry around laminated affirmation cards. She’s a helper. Always has been. Even when no one’s asking.
Especially when no one’s asking.
Her best friend, roommate, and occasional walking anxiety spiral buffer is Jacob Hill.
Cut to Jacob in a tour guide polo, standing outside the library…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Welcome to PCEHD! If you’re watching this, you’re either new, lost, or deeply invested in academic documentaries. Either way, I’m Jacob. He/him. I lead campus tours, run the progressive education zine, and last semester I singlehandedly organized a protest against vending machines that only carry sugary snacks. We’re still negotiating with administration. I don’t give up easy.”
The camera pans down to show his khakis are absolutely covered in chalk dust.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Jacob is passionate about making education accessible and inclusive. He once cried in a seminar about social-emotional learning and then offered everyone vegan banana bread. His friendship with Janine is the kind that still makes people whisper, “Are they dating?” which is wild, considering Jacob is very gay and very vocal about it.
They’re just the kind of soulmates who share highlighters and cry during teacher appreciation week.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Cut to the student café.
The camera zooms in on a sign that says “BREW CAN DO IT!” then pans over to Ava Coleman, lounging against the espresso machine like it’s a throne.
“I’m Ava. I work here, obviously, because they wouldn’t let me just sit and vibe. Which is honestly a violation of my rights. I’m also in the teaching program, not that I need it. I already know how to run a classroom. Or a campus. Or a small country. Take your pick.”
She sips from a mug that says “Espresso Yourself or Stay Basic” and flashes a grin that suggests she knows everyone’s secrets.
“Some people are here to get a degree. I’m here to get leverage.”
She winks at the camera. The manager yells something offscreen about her stealing biscotti again.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
No one knows how Ava got into the education program. There’s a rumor she blackmailed a dean. Another rumor says she has compromising photos of the provost. What’s true is this: she runs the college’s social media pages, always gets her way, and makes Gregory do the afternoon shift alone when she’s “emotionally unavailable.”
Speaking of…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Cut to Gregory Eddie, cleaning the counter with intense focus.
“I’m Gregory. Junior. Education major. Coffee’s four fifty. We don’t take cash.”
There’s a beat. The interviewer tries to prod him into saying more.
He sighs.
“I like teaching. I think kids deserve consistency. That’s all.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Gregory is quiet. But not cold. He’s the kind of person who says exactly what he means and nothing more. He’s on a scholarship, keeps a small succulent on the windowsill of his dorm, and drinks tea like he’s eighty. He’s also been slowly falling for Janine for a year and a half. He hasn’t told her. She hasn’t noticed.
It’s fine. Everything’s fine.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A few buildings over, in the advising office, two more chairs are set up.
Melissa Schemmenti is sprawled in hers, looking like she’s about five seconds from lighting a cigarette despite the clear “No Smoking” sign behind her.
“I’m Melissa. Grad student. Working in Enrollment Advising. Lifeguard at the pool. Podcast host. Former child. You get the idea.”
She crosses her arms.
“I’m not here to make friends. Except maybe one. Or two. But don’t quote me on that.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Melissa is twenty-eight and has the energy of someone who’s lived five lives already. She took a break after high school, worked in a bunch of odd jobs, then came back to get her degree when she realized she was tired of yelling at kids in the neighborhood without a teaching license. She’s Philly to the bone, has three fantasy football leagues, and hosts a popular local sports podcast where she occasionally drops educational hot takes in between Sixers rants.
She also happens to be dating Barbara Howard.
Cut to Barbara, sitting in the second advising office chair, posture perfect.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“My name is Barbara Howard. I am a graduate student specializing in early childhood education. I believe in high standards, strong moral character, and getting things done the right way, the first time.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Barbara is twenty-nine. She left a private Christian school teaching job to return for her Master’s after realizing she wanted more autonomy in her work — and maybe fewer PTA moms telling her what she could and couldn’t say. She’s organized, polished, and carries a pen that cost more than a month of Gregory’s rent. She’s also been in a relationship with Melissa for three years.
No one on campus knows.
Barbara says it’s “private.”
Melissa calls it “closeted.”
They compromise by telling people they’ve just been friends “since undergrad.” No one pushes. But Ava definitely suspects something.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As the sun starts to set over campus, the camera catches them all at once. Janine rushing across the quad, a stack of fliers flying out of her hands. Gregory picking one up for her without saying a word. Jacob standing on a fountain, trying to start a chant. Ava sipping a latte she didn’t pay for. Barbara and Melissa walking side by side, their hands not quite touching.
Just another day at PCEHD.
Where the lesson plans are still hypothetical, the drama is very real, and no one’s quite as put-together as they pretend to be.
Class is in session starting Monday, June 9th!

Arcane AU: Silent Frontiers
Guess who got a little silly. . .and accidentally created a new Timebomb AU?
Tumblr media
Arcane: Silent Frontiers is a survival horror AU that introduces the location of Zaun as an old mining town buried deep within the heart of the Appalachian Wilderness. Now fallen into drastic disrepair following its containment as a Government Exclusion Zone, the resident’s of Zaun still trapped within the zone now must work together to survive as strange occurrences begin happening within the woods they once called home.
OVERVIEW
Zaun: Location: Appalachia. Inspired by games such as The STALKER Series, Resident Evil, Fallout 76 and even with some homages to Dead Space, Arcane Silent Frontiers story follows Ekko and Jinx, two survivor's living within the Zaun Exclusion Zone, a once a wealthy and successful mining town famous for its scenic views and vast cave networks rich in raw materials.
Once one of the suppliers for the wealthiest mines in the country, it now sits as a bleak remnant of Appalachia's history and Piltover's storied past. Since the containment of not only it but the surrounding area, Zaun has been suddenly cut off from the rest of the world. While some people start to panic, a small group of citizens tries to maintain some semblance of peace and order, while also attempting to learn the truth about the containment, the purpose behind it -- and, most importantly, how to escape it.
Arcane Silent Frontiers' story follows Ekko and Jinx, two survivor's living (and doing their best) within the Zaun Exclusion Zone. With the town now left to rot however, Ekko and Jinx now seek escape as a brewing faction war and the presence of more hostile monsters continues to grow from within the Zone almost everyday. However, peace outside the Zone may not be as concrete as many such as them hope as the ever-progressive city and last hope of Zaun, Piltover, may not be faring as well as people may dream of.
Piltover: Location: Appalachia. Inspiration: Umbrella Corp. Murkoff Corp. Ah Piltover. The industrial anchor of Appalachia, Piltover is highly recognized for the city's cultural, educational, healthcare, and technological resources, and is one of the largest cities in Appalachia. A beacon of hope for all and  a cultural center that's known for its trade, craftsmanship, and forward-thinking, Piltover is thought by many to be the ideal city.
However, things are not as they seem. One disaster never comes without another. Where Volcanoes erupt, snow and cold often follow and with it come disease and famine. And where progress grow’s, so too grows wider the road to hell paved with good intentions. And nowhere is that more shown then in the underbelly and inner workings of Piltover's higher up society.
Once a city dedicated to the betterment of mankind, Piltover's idea of what the term “betterment” means, has become very obscure as of late. No thanks given due to their “partnership” with a very-ruthless cut-throat. On it’s own Piltover thrives, with influence in the productions and sales of cosmetics, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, industrial machine production, consumer products, health foods, the transportation industry and tourism.
However, Piltover’s large array of subsidiaries once often thought typical for large-scale corporations, is in actuality purposely built to cover up illegal activities- such as the development of biological weaponry for militaries across the world as well as Human Testing of many of their BOW products, no thanks in part due to NOXUS getting their fingers into everything.
NOXUS (MILITARY BRANCH) Location: ??? Inspiration: Earthgov (Dead Space) There's always a bigger fish in the sea But sometimes even the biggest fish have to watch out.
Oh Noxus, whatever would our lives be without you? Well I don't know about our lives, but I can certainly tell you that Piltover and Zaun’s world's would definitely be a lot quieter for sure without them.
NOXUS in Silent Frontier stands not so much different then it’s show-counterpart. Led still by Ambessa, they are the secondary antagonists of Silent Frontiers following the revelation that they have intended to weaponize the achievements of Piltover for their own gain, even using Zaun as a testing ground. (Because remember kids, if people say the Government would never do that, there's a chance either they already have or are thinking about doing it and just haven't done it yet.) Piltover however has since turned a blind eye to many of NOXUS’ plans solely because let's face it, money talks bullshit walks and everyone knows there's at least a few fat-cats who wouldn't give a shit about anything as long as their revenue is intact. And Noxus is a BIG spender with an interest in BOW’s and such. Throughout the story however, it’s no surprise that NOXUS is simply using Piltover for it’s own gain much like in the show; seeing Piltover as a goldmine especially after a discovery team in the city finds something in particular that piques their interest.
However, their control is waning and beginning to loosen. A couple of their top scientists are either dead (either by their hands or by the governments) or have now gone AWOL and it's only a matter of time before the screws give way and the metal bends. . . ADDITIONAL CHARACTERS: (Please note that this is not a list of all the characters in this AU. Simply just the ones I actually have idea's for. If you want i might post up things later on down the lines asking for help with others if anyone would like to shoot an idea at me. Otherwise I will chat about them off and on in posts in the future.)
Jayce and Heimerdinger The Student and the Teacher The only two remaining members of their class left now only to be survivors and reluctant heroes looking to make amends for their mistakes. One of them appears to be looking for something. . . one can only hope he finds it before it's too late. Viktor Inspiration: Michael Altman (Dead Space) He who leads The Father of Holy Union The Forced Prophet. A Reluctant man who once only sought to do good in his life. Now he is lucky enough if he even remembers his life. Though one thing is for certain. . .he remembers something clearly. . .and that is that he seems to be. . missing something. . .
Isha
Inspiration: Ellie Williams (The Last of Us 1) Clementine (Telltale’s the Walking Dead) Newt (Aliens 2) Joel Miller (The Last of Us 1) A brave, albeit quiet child, Isha has grown up in this harsh world and it is all she has ever known. Wise way beyond her years and highly capable of taking care of herself and those around her, Isha finds it hard to gain attachments towards people following immense heartbreak in her life, and doesn’t believe she’ll ever find what she is missing. However the Zone is strange and much like a phoenix, beauty comes even after everything burns. . so maybe there is hope for her after all.
Additional Notes:
Mute and Partially Deaf in one ear due to Birth defects.
Still retains hearing in the left ear but is highly sensitive to loud noises; thought to be a sign of Auditory recruitment syndrome or hyperacusis. Whatever the case, loud noises will often make her miserable and jumpy.
Speaks mainly through sign language.
Actually didn’t really like Jinx when they first met despite the connection the pair apparently have, (attachment issues).
Vi Steadfast, Strong-Hearted, Strong-Willed and Strong-Headed, Vi has managed to remain a kind, caring and passionate individual who strives to live life to the fullest now that life tends to be immensely uncertain. Her demeanor is generally a sense of reserved joyous despite her apparent “brutish nature” and as such she can be very forward, having no fear of loudly proclaiming her love of being alive and how much she cares for those close to her. However, despite her relatively gentle and somewhat reserved nature, Vi is a very physical person with little-to-no reservations about getting into a brawl if provoked. She can be impulsive and easy to goad, and may lose sense and reason when confronting people she despises. Her harsh background has made her tough, but despite that she hasn't fully lost her compassion. So don't let it be fooled. Her love for those close to her is the only thing keeping her going, and she’s hoping to come out of this with a better understanding of certain people. Including her sister. . .
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Ping list for people who said they wanted to see this @ryototsukaitwoswords @2xhbergggg @reallyhappycrown @lbulldesigns (I think you said you wanted to see it, if you werent then enjoy the free ping XD)

One thing I've always found interesting in Rescue Bots is how each of the bot's have gone to accepting their newfound life on earth. Despite all coming from the same circumstances (all being contained in stasis in the middle of space and being found by Optimus), they each have gone through their own process of accepting that they can never go back home and have a new planet and humans to protect.
Throughout most of the series Blades and Chase are pretty much good with Griffin Rock. In fact, they're pretty much thriving what with how enveloped they are with different aspects of human culture!
Blades is a total pop culture nerd. He loves watching movies, game shows, and cartoons. So much so that it even influences how he sees the real world (thinking that monsters are real and having heatwave hunt them for him). He's even involved on the internet and developed a fan club.
Chase, being a police bot, is extremely passionate about upholding the law and memorizing police codes. He even loves sharing his love for the law this boy hyperfixates to the ends of the earth its so charming. In the episode where everyone on the island starts singing Chase sings a whole song about different police codes and it'smhilarious. When Cody is trying to figure out what he should do for his Lad Pioneers Project, Chase creates a fake game show where he quizzes him on the law. All in all, Chase loves his job and loves learning about human law.
Heatwave, on the other hand, is a complicated case. It's clear that at the start of the series, Heatwave is dedicated to his mission and wants to make Optimus proud, but he is very frustrated by the circumstances he's being put under. He has to hide who he is and pose as an emotionless machine. His partner is selfish and takes all the credit for their rescue work. All the others seem to be content with what they have, but Heatwave isn't. He so much so desires to be a part of Optimus' team on the mainland so he can be part of the action (even though any decepticon could kill him in one shot). There's also been multiple cases where Heatwave requests him and the rescue bots to be reassigned to a mission off planet, much like when the first Morbot "replaces" them in Season 1. And yet despite it, towards the end of the series Heatwave definitely turns over a new leaf. He loves his family and partners, and will fight to hell and back to protect his home.
Boulder, imo, is the perfect medium between Blades/Chase and Heatwave. One of his most endearing traits is how much he adores Earth. Like, he is in LOVE with the place. Right when the bots first arrive on Earth, boulder remarks at how beautiful griffin rock is. One of my fave episodes with boulder is when he discovers a species of bird that was previously extinct and wants to try so hard to protect it from tourists. In the musical episode his entire number is just a love song to Earth and its so adorable. He also actively wants to be a part of the community. He offers people to ask him questions about himself. He does community gardening and tries to sign up for a library card. Though, with how much he loves Earth, there are times when we see he still grieves his life on Cybertron. On the episode where they celebrate All-Spark Day, Boulder looks back on the fond memories he had celebrating on Cybertron, and wants to share his culture with Griffin Rock. Surprisingly, Heatwave turns down the idea, saying that they shouldn't look back on the past and stay focused on their mission.
anyways those are just my thoughts on rescue bots. it's such a well written show and I could talk for hours about what I love about it!!
