One Shot | Virgin!Pu$$yDrunk!Spencer Reid x Fem!Reader | Smut 18+
It started off so innocent She had a vibe and a nigga started diggin' it I was a youngin, straight crushin', tryna play the shit cool But a nigga couldn't wait to get to school 'Cause when I seen 'em thighs on her And them hips on her and them lips on her Got me daydreaming, man, what I'm thinkin' how she rides on it, if she sits on it, if she licks on it Make it hard for me to stand up
Description: In your freshman year of college, you and Spencer hit off while working on a project together.
Warning(s): ...hunchin <3
~~~~~
Y'all had so much in common it was insane. Of course he was a genius but his brain was just magnificent. He of course has random knowledge of anything but the things he was genuinely into you also were. It was hard to complete the project with you two always taking breaks to listen to each other mini rant and fangirl over the same likes but you both finished 2 weeks early just so for the next 2 weeks you could spend it doing whatever you two wanted. It was the spark of a new and true friendship.
-
Wasn't nothin' like that Man, it wasn't nothin' like that first time She was in my math class Long hair, brown skin with a fat ass Sat beside me, used to laugh, had mad jokes The teacher always got mad so we passed notes
Both of y'all sat together every lecture. Never paying attention to the professor just in your own world joking and laughing. You'd been noticing Spencer's eyes lingering on you the entire day. Sorta staring just a second longer than he used to. You didn't mind because you loved the attention from him. You found him to be such a catch and you really wanted something more to become of y'all's relationship.
You snorted at a particular joke he made and heard the professor grunt while staring at your direction. You felt your cheeks heat up with embarrassment and you put your head down to hide your smile. You felt a nudge to your left and saw Spencer hand a note to you.
Hiding your chuckle at the childish gesture you opened it anyways.
'Don't worry about him he's old anyways and statistically not gonna be here much longer.' Spenders messy cursive spelt out. It took everything in you to to bust out laughing.
'I know right like this dude is too ancient to be scoffing at people. He's using up too much air he already has limited supply’ you wrote back causing Spencer to snicker with you.
‘Do you want to play the new board game you were talking about at my place this weekend’ he suddenly asked. It was random but yeah of course you did. You loved spending time with him.
‘Yeah,’ you replied. ‘Maybe we can do something else later’ you horrible hinted. You cringed at how stupid that sounded. What if he didn’t get the message. Mid spiral you looked over and saw Spencer blushing, oh? Maybe he did get it.
‘Yes I mean sure no problem’ he tried to play off his excitement. You both smiled and tuned into the lecture both thinking about the events that would take place Saturday.
-
Derek let out a booming laugh at what his friend just asked.
“Wait wait run it by me one more time” he said chuckling.
“Don’t make me repeat it.” Spencer begged.
“Nah nah if you want some advice you gotta speak up Spence.” Derek scolded.
Spencer sighed in irritation. “How do I make a girl cum? Okay?!? How do I properly have sex?”
“Oh?” Penelope said as she walked into Spencer’s apartment unannounced. She held up a bag of take out.
“I was just coming by with some dinner but I can definitely stay for this conversation. Who are you trying to make cum?” Pen asked.
Derek chimed in, “lil miss sweet thang he met in his college course”
“Awe the cute one who’s been taking up all your time recently” Pen gushed.
“Are y’all gonna help me or what” Spencer groaned in annoyance.
“Oh we’re gonna help you alright!” Derek and Pen got to work, schooling Spence on all the tips and tricks. Good thing Spencer has an eidetic memory because this conversation went on for hours.
-
You were actually freaking the fuck out. You were standing outside his door and thinking what was wrong with you? Why would you even suggest something like that. Oh. My. Fuck. You were damn near hyperventilating at that point. You and Spencer. Spencer and you. You and fucking Spencer. Ahhhh!
Spencer opened the door in the middle of your mini silent rant.
"Hi" You wheezed out startled.
"Hey.." Spence Replied
-
What. The. Absolute. Fuck. Happened. To. Spencer...
This wasn't the cute nerdy boy you've been crushing on since your very first project together. This was a beat of a man who've you've never met before. At the rate he was fuckin you, you would've thought this was light work to him.
The aches and bruises that lined your body was evidence enough that this was a machine. It wasn't the normal precise and put together Spence you knew. This was an entirely new person but you weren't complaining. Actually the sounds you were making were telling.
"Fuck Spence slow down" You whined out, your body shaking each time he trusted into your cunt.
"Can't mamas, you just feel so good." He mumbled into your neck, completely pussy drunk at the moment.
'Mamas'??? When did he start using that nickna- ohhhhh. You sent a silent Thank you to Derek now knowing your shy crush asked for advice.
You felt Spencer getting restless and grabbed his face to make eye contact with him. Face to face your breaths mixing with the smell of lust and tension the air.
He let out a frustrated groan and you suddenly felt yourself bend into a mating press. Your legs on his shoulders, knees to your chest.You whined and winched at the bruising grip he had on your thighs. You could feel him so deeply now.
"Fuck Spence I can feel you in my guts." You panted out. Barely able to catch your breath. You feel him mumble something incoherent without missing a beat.
"That's it, just feel me baby."
He was intoxicating. His hair was a mess sticking to his forehead and neck.
You couldn't care less though. you knew this night would be a good and a long one. You couldn't wait to see what other 'Research' He did.
~~~~~
Ngl got lazy at the end lmk if y'all want me to finish this one up. Bai loves.

| in which he patiently waits one day at a time|
↳ Description: being a guest at the Jeon Estate after a mishap of being kidnapped and dragged into your brothers affairs isn’t all that bad. Truth be told it brings you a lot closer to the mobster and owner of the estate Jeon Jungkook himself.
His two rules are simple, don’t cause trouble and don’t give him a hard time. Somehow you manage to constantly do both in the most endearing way despite being pregnant and waddling around most of the time.
Pairing: Jungkook/reader, ???/reader
↳ Genre: slice of life AU, mafia!AU, pregnancy, there’s like…a little bit of a plot but not a lot, future smut? maybe? it's very domestic!
Word count: 2.9k

Note: no matter how many scenes i write, they're all sad and i'm kinda sorry bc i said this fic wasn't going to have much plot but it somehow has a lot of plot now??? and its kinda sad??? HERE YOU GUYS GO THO
Tumblr media
The commotion going on in the estate wasn’t difficult to tell, men had been actively walking more than their usual rotations required and Jungkook knew this was a sign you were causing some sort of chaos as you seemed to do every day now.
And upon following the trail it led him just a door down from your own room, items being moved and you were currently pouting as you sighed.
“Do tell me what your idea is for this little renovation project.” Jungkook hummed, leaning against the door, not actually annoyed at how much you always move things around in his estate in fact…Dare he say he felt a little endeared.
And Jungkook found himself falling into old habits, habit he found himself missing, such as being able to take the time to admire you, all thoughts of work fading from his head at the sight of your dress, just past your knees and a faded checker blue, flowing sleeves that went to your elbows for room and of course the ever growing bump.
Your hands were set around it seemingly pouting over something before his words drew you out of your thoughts, “Jungkook, I didn’t realize you were home so early.”
“I have a meeting I have to attend in person later,” Jungkook replied, “You didn’t answer my question.”
There it was again, that small pout he hadn’t realized he missed so much until it dawned your lips once more, “Well…” You seemed a bit hesitant before you spoke, “I gave it some thought- what we talked about a few days ago, about a nursery and I figured you were right. It’s better we be prepared for it then not.”
Jungkook was relieved to hear this because while he was trying his hardest to get something on Wonho, there was a smaller, more selfish part of him that enjoyed this, enjoying having you at his estate.
An even smaller part of him not wanting it to end so soon, he had to let go of you once and no it wasn’t fair, but even there was even the slightest chance…well, he didn’t want to let it slip through his fingers and have to let you go once again.
Jungkook only nodded, “So what's with the look then?”
“Well,” You gave him a sheepish smile, “I had all of this stuff moved out and realized I have nothing to actually put in here…”
Jungkook couldn’t help the chuckle that escaped him as he pushed off the frame stepping into the room, “Hm, that’s a strange way to ask for money.”
“Jungkook I wasn’t-”
“I’m teasing relax,” Jungkook cut you off, your lips tugging even poutier, you had always been like this, since day one in fact, always worried he’d think you were using him for money, always trying to deter him from paying even if you didn’t have the means to actually afford it yourself.
It was sweet, “But you’re also in no position to not accept it and I have more than enough money to afford it- it’s a win win.”
You stared at his outstretched hand, black shiny amex in his hand, “I don’t feel right just using it.”
Jungkook sighed wistfully, “You didn’t seem to feel too guilty helping your brother with rates and statistics for drug sales.”
Your lips parted somewhat in surprise, “That was different…!”
“You’re right,” There it was that stupid teasing, charming smile of his, “It was probably worse.”
You knew he was only teasing, but something about it made you feel gross still, you had a reason you were in that room, a reason that is long gone from you now, “Well it doesn’t matter anymore does it?”
Jungkook paused at the sight of your expression dimming as you continued looking out the open window as your hand absently rubbed your bump, “I haven’t done that for a long time now…”
“Y/n I didn’t mean-”
“I know,” You cut him off softly looking back at him and there was an unmistakable look of regret in his eyes, not wanting to cross any lines with you but you were afraid they already had, “I just…I guess I just have some regrets about getting involved….I never wanted to hurt anyone,” You whispered out, “I had a reason I was there and it had nothing to do with the money...For myself at least.”
Jungkook frowned, there were still so many things he didn’t know about you, your time together having been cut short when you both had first met, “What other reason could there be?”
It was an indirect question, rather than a rhetorical one, you knew what he was asking.
You hesitated, but then again, you supposed it didn’t matter now, it was all in the past, no matter how dull it made your heart ache.
“Well…” You let out a soft sigh, “I’m sure you remember I wasn’t exactly financially stable, and for me that was fine. It was enough,” You nodded to yourself in thought, “It wasn’t much, but it was enough.”
“Until…?”
“I received a phone call,” You mumbled, recalling the event, “A foster agency, telling me that they did a DNA test on one of their cases and it came out as a match on me and my brother. Just a week old, dropped off right outside the police station.”
You had to bite down on your tongue, you had thought you were over it, but it still stung just as raw, “Since we were her only blood family I was given the opportunity to adopt her…” You let out a sigh trying to keep it together, “Except I was too poor, I didn’t even come close to having a qualifying salary to show that I could be responsible for her and take care of her…”
“What about Wonho?” Jungkook cocked his head to the side, baffled at this information.
You let out a loud scoff, bitterness that you had tried so hard to let go of coming back up as you shook your head, “Wonho didn’t give a shit, told me that it wasn’t our problem but I struck a deal with him, if I helped him up until his annual evaluation with you for his first year of work, he’d help me get the expenses that were required to foster her.”
Jungkook’s brows furrowed as he shook his head, “And?”
There it was, that little niggle in your head that was angry about it all, angry at Wonho, angry at yourself, especially at Jungkook, “Well all of it fell apart. Very quickly, one thing after the other. I mean obviously you dropped off the face of the planet for months so Wonho wasn’t making money- I got let go of my job because of the murder- everything went void.”
Jungkook looked away with a long inhale as if he had been mentally prepared for the moment you’d finally cave and say it, but it wasn’t as if you were wrong, you were simply stating a fact, he completely ghosted you and civilization as everyone knew it and just like that, he had left your life as quick as he entered.
It was difficult to not be angry about it when he was the one that convinced you that the very thing you were afraid of wouldn’t happen, just for a few short months later, let it happen. And you were sure he had his reasons, you were certain of it, but it didn’t change the fact that he left you with little to no explanation and just like that, never bothered to come back, didn’t even so much as send a letter, a proper apology, nothing.
“I’ve…” Jungkook’s eyes squinted on the ground, “I’ve been meaning to talk to you, about what happened.”
You shook your head, “Jungkook, it’s been two years,” Your voice softened, his eyes glancing up to meet yours and once again you felt the dull ache that never went away, “I shouldn’t of brought it up, I’m sorry…it’s in the past now, life went on.”
“Well it didn’t for me.” Jungkook let out a small breath and you could hear a hint of bitterness in his voice.
Your lips quivered a little, “Do you have any right to say that?”
“Probably not,” When did he get this close to you, “But it doesn’t change how I feel.”
Old feelings were like a dam bursting inside you and you began to shake your head, “I’m not ready to talk about this Jungkook- can’t we just keep pretending like nothing happened?”
Jungkook shook his head, “We’ve both tried this and neither of us are good at it Y/n, I can’t, not when I have a second chance.”
You raised your brows, “No! No this is…” You took an immediate step back, “This is not what this is Jungkook, what happened is over. I’m only staying here because Wonho has a target on his back and you were kind enough to keep me out of the crossfire.”
“Maybe that’s how it started out,” Jungkook replied just as quick, taking another step closer to you, “Look…I know it’s not fair,” He frowned, as if he hated saying it, “I had every intention to stay out of your life, it wasn’t fair to drag you along back then and that’s why I didn’t, but…You’re here now, right in front of me. So yes…I do see it as a second chance, and if theres any way I can make it right, I will.”
You groaned, “It’s not just making it right anymore!” You wanted to scream! “I have baggage now Jungkook!” Your eyes threatened to water as your hands dropped from your stomach, “A lot of it. It’s not just me anymore I’m getting ready to have a baby, you don’t know what you’re asking for.”
“I know exactly what I’m asking for.” Jungkook sharply replied, eyes brewing with anger, “And what I’m asking for is you, all of you.”
“You had your chance and you left me, plain and simple, you left. I don’t understand why now…Out of all the time, two years later, now…!?” You hadn’t meant to raise your voice, but you were angry, perplexed, scared.
Scared just the way you were when he was upfront the first time in that stupid bakery you wanted nothing more then to pretend like didn’t happen, you wanted to pretend like you never got drunk at that stupid bar, that he wasn’t late that day, that he didn’t sat down and offer to pay for your meal for making you wait.
You wanted to pretend like he had actually listened for once when you declined him asking you out, that he didn’t visit you every morning at work, and more then anything you wanted to pretend like you had a stronger will, that you didn’t let him convince, your mind was flooding with so many memories of him.
His hand trailing down your thigh while drunk in the back of his car, his eyes when he saw the bust in your lip, his smile when your fingers intertwined with his, his skin etched into yours for the first time, ushered sweet nothings that he’d love you forever.
But at the time you didn’t realize that forever would only be a short three months then just like that, it was over, and oftentimes you were left many sleepless nights wondering, was it even love? Everything had happened so fast, it felt like forever.
But two years later, standing in front of him you realized it had been two agonizingly long years since you saw him in person.
“I made a choice,” Jungkook defended himself, “I stuck to that choice…I was leaving you alone, even if I didn’t want to and then…” He ran a hand through his hair, revealing his face in full detail his eyes baffled as if trying to understand himself, “Suddenly one night you’re dropped in the middle of my office. I didn’t have any pretenses, I was just being nice letting you stay here, I had fond memories of our time together, I didn’t want to let you get caught in the crossfire- it was the least I could do after everything.”
You crossed your arms as he continued, “And then…I don’t know,” He muttered, “I look at you, I see your smile, I see you standing here pouting and trying to do it all yourself, like you always tried to do. And suddenly it’s two years ago and we’re both drunk sitting at the bar talking about what it would be like to be in love. And I feel the exact same way I did back then, looking at you and wondering if maybe I had finally found it.”
You felt physically sick, it was like he was intentionally wanting to break your heart all over again, “You sent them to raid my home, you can’t tell me this wasn’t planned…”
“I didn’t expect them to fuckin’ kidnap you Y/n!” Jungkook let out a hurt laugh, running his hand through his hair, “In fact I gave them direct instruction to do the shakedown while you were at work and to not destroy your apartment- you were supposed to be at work!”
“Well I wasn’t!” You shouted back, “I wasn’t feeling well and my coworker offered to cover! You can’t do this to me! You can’t, not after all this time…” You voice died down, “You can’t just…open all of this back up as a second chance because you’re feeling nostalgic over a fling-”
“You were never a fling to me-”
“That’s how I felt after you left-” You suddenly winced, hand immediately pressing to your stomach, instinctual almost despite the pain coming from your chest, Jungkook’s eyes immediately widening and he had closed the small gap between you both.
“Let’s get you sat down…” Jungkook murmured and you couldn’t help but stare at his hand, big and calloused, multiple rings just the way you remembered, pressed against your bump and a wave of intense sadness thrummed in your heart, what you’d give to go back and change everything.
You were too tired to fight his touch, and a smaller part of you crying– begging inside your mind to just give in, to put your worries aside and roll the dice again, maybe he’d actually keep his promise this time.
But you refrained from leaning against him too much as he sat you down on the bed in your room, phone immediately in hand as he called Doctor Choi, after hanging up the air was thick with a silence and tension.
Jungkook sighed as he sat on the edge of the bed, “...If you don’t wanna talk about it, we won’t. I don’t want you going into preterm…But…I want you to know I didn’t make that decision because I wanted to, and I didn’t do it easily either.”
You self soothed, rubbing your tummy as your eyes closed, “I know you didn’t. At least that's what I told myself the last few years, that surely there was a really good reason…And you wanna know the worst part Jungkook?” You whispered, sad eyes as you opened them to look at him, “I waited…I waited every day, sat at that stupid register hoping you’d come, even after Wonho stopped talking to me I went to the Red Light anyways, hoped maybe you’d be there. There wasn’t a day I didn’t check my phone only to be disappointed by your name not being on the screen…”
It was silent again before you tried to hold back your tears, “You broke my heart. Right in two, promised you wouldn’t leave me, and then you did. And now you’re asking me for another chance?”
You said you wouldn’t cry, but here you were softly weeping in your bed, feeling like a child once again, helpless and wondering why no matter how hard you tried, nobody ever stayed, you had thought he was different, but it turned out he was just like the rest.
Jungkook’s hands cupped your cheeks, thumbing the tears away as he pressed his forehead down to yours, “For what it’s worth, I am sorry,” He murmured, “I’m just as much a sinner as anyone else, I’m ill-tempered and cruel, I’ve killed a lot more people then you could ever imagine, but most of all Y/n, I’m selfish, I’m not really a good man. But I could be good, for you.”
“You don’t know how bad I really want to believe you,” You whispered out, “But I had so long to think about it, to look back and realize I know nothing about you. It was my own fault really, you’re not a good man and I knew that back then, just like I know it right now.”
“I know I hurt you,” Jungkook had a sort of determination in his eye, the kind that you knew was unwavering, he meant every word he was saying, “But there hasn’t been a day I wished it could be different. I’ll do whatever is necessary to earn your trust again.”
You pressed your lips together for a long moment, “I’m not saying it isn’t possible, but you have a long way to go if you really want it.”
Jungkook’s long slim finger traced down your jawline, “I’ll take it one day at a time, just like the first time.”

How to Become a Data Scientist in 2025 (Roadmap for Absolute Beginners)
Tumblr media
Want to become a data scientist in 2025 but don’t know where to start? You’re not alone. With job roles, tech stacks, and buzzwords changing rapidly, it’s easy to feel lost.
But here’s the good news: you don’t need a PhD or years of coding experience to get started. You just need the right roadmap.
Let’s break down the beginner-friendly path to becoming a data scientist in 2025.
✈️ Step 1: Get Comfortable with Python
Python is the most beginner-friendly programming language in data science.
What to learn:
Variables, loops, functions
Libraries like NumPy, Pandas, and Matplotlib
Why: It’s the backbone of everything you’ll do in data analysis and machine learning.
🔢 Step 2: Learn Basic Math & Stats
You don’t need to be a math genius. But you do need to understand:
Descriptive statistics
Probability
Linear algebra basics
Hypothesis testing
These concepts help you interpret data and build reliable models.
📊 Step 3: Master Data Handling
You’ll spend 70% of your time cleaning and preparing data.
Skills to focus on:
Working with CSV/Excel files
Cleaning missing data
Data transformation with Pandas
Visualizing data with Seaborn/Matplotlib
This is the “real work” most data scientists do daily.
 Step 4: Learn Machine Learning (ML)
Once you’re solid with data handling, dive into ML.
Start with:
Supervised learning (Linear Regression, Decision Trees, KNN)
Unsupervised learning (Clustering)
Model evaluation metrics (accuracy, recall, precision)
Toolkits: Scikit-learn, XGBoost
🚀 Step 5: Work on Real Projects
Projects are what make your resume pop.
Try solving:
Customer churn
Sales forecasting
Sentiment analysis
Fraud detection
Pro tip: Document everything on GitHub and write blogs about your process.
✏️ Step 6: Learn SQL and Databases
Data lives in databases. Knowing how to query it with SQL is a must-have skill.
Focus on:
SELECT, JOIN, GROUP BY
Creating and updating tables
Writing nested queries
🌍 Step 7: Understand the Business Side
Data science isn’t just tech. You need to translate insights into decisions.
Learn to:
Tell stories with data (data storytelling)
Build dashboards with tools like Power BI or Tableau

writing ask yay!! ⏳ 💭 💞
YIPPEE!!!!! ;Dc hehehehehe 💞💞💞💞💞 well first off, a very happy (early) new year to you too, my friend!!!! 💞💞💞💞💞
⏳ what project(s) did you spend the most time on?
100% like wringing blood from a stone has taken mooooooost of my attention this year, and the amount of time i've spent barfing words onto the page for it...unthinkable.
💭 what description(s) are you most proud of?
................WELL SEE HERE'S THE THING, statistically i knew this was going to happen because i've spent so much time working on it and haven't updated much, BUT if there's one description i'm really, really proud of it's........well, it's for a future chapter of ^ like wringing blood ^ soooooooo
i'm gonna throw it under a cut. for a few reasons, really, but mostly for it being a fairly context-less spoiler of......something. 👀 sort of.
His blood ran cold.
The last time he’d seen Amelia, she’d been wearing the dark grey dress she’d bought for her parents’ funeral. It hadn’t been meant as a slight, him picking that dress to bury her in, it’d just been the first thing he’d grabbed from her side of the closet. The longer he’d stood in the receiving line, though, the more fitting it’d seemed; in the back of his head, it’d almost turned into a joke, really, one where no one but him knew the punch line. The Grant Garment. The Burial Shroud. That dress had seen every member of the Grant family put into the ground, bar none, bingo-bango-bongo.
It wasn’t what she wore now, as she stood on that pulpit with the dark roots of her hair showing beneath the brassy frizz of a bathroom bleach-job and her blank eyes staring through him as if he wasn’t there at all. No. No, she wasn’t wearing the dress she’d been buried in, but God help him, he would’ve given anything for her to be. There wasn’t a price he wouldn’t’ve paid not to have to see her like that.
Her shirt was too short, too billowy, and hung off her shoulder to such a degree that he could see both the top of her striped bikini top and one livid line of the Y-incision the coroner had carved her open with. That wasn’t the worst of it, though; the button-fly of her itty-bitty cutoff shorts had been left undone and the top rolled over to show the barest tease of the bikini’s bottoms. Striped. Blue and white. The same suit she'd worn all those summers ago, when she was just another Hacketteer spending her days by the lake.
The sight of her made his stomach churn - not because of the bruises and the staples and the angry welting of dead flesh around those incisions, but the uncomfortable slant of sexuality about her. It was the bareness of her thighs that turned him away, the pert jut of her breasts beneath the gauzy fabric of her shirt. Chris had to look away before the sight of her could burn its way onto his retinas like a camera flash.
Whatever she was in that moment, ghost or delusion or nightmare or divine punishment for every miserable thing he’d done wrong in his life, she was not his late wife, was not the mother of his children; she was someone’s teenage fantasy laid overtop the memory of a corpse, and everything about her was an affront.

[Profile picture transcription: An eye shape with a rainbow flag covering the whites. The iris in the middle is red, with a white d20 for a pupil. End transcription.]
Hello! This is a blog specifically dedicated to image transcriptions. My main blog is @mollymaclachlan.
For those who don't know, I used to be part of r/TranscribersOfReddit, a Reddit community dedicated to transcribing posts to improve accessibility. That project sadly had to shut down, partially as a result of the whole fiasco with Reddit's API changes. But I miss transcribing and I often see posts on Tumblr with no alt text and no transcription.
So! Here I am, making a new blog. I'll be transcribing posts that need it when I see them and I have time; likely mainly ones I see on my dashboard. I also have asks open so anyone can request posts or images.
I have plenty of experience transcribing but that doesn't mean I'm perfect. We can always learn to be better and I'm not visually impaired myself, so if you have any feedback on how I can improve my transcriptions please don't hesitate to tell me. Just be friendly about it.
The rest of this post is an FAQ, adapted from one I posted on Reddit.
1. Why do you do transcriptions?
Transcriptions help improve the accessibility of posts. Tumblr has capabilities for adding alt-text to images, but not everyone uses it, and it has a character limit that can hamper descriptions for complex images. The following is a non-exhaustive list of the ways transcriptions improve accessibility:
They help visually-impaired people. Most visually-impaired people rely on screen readers, technology that reads out what's on the screen, but this technology can't read out images.
They help people who have trouble reading any small, blurry or oddly formatted text.
In some cases they're helpful for people with colour deficiencies, particularly if there is low contrast.
They help people with bad internet connections, who might as a result not be able to load images at high quality or at all.
They can provide context or note small details many people may otherwise miss when first viewing a post.
They are useful for search engine indexing and the preservation of images.
They can provide data for improving OCR (Optical Character Recognition) technology.
2. Why don't you just use OCR or AI?
OCR (Optical Character Recoginition) is technology that detects and transcribes text in an image. However, it is currently insufficient for accessibility purposes for three reasons:
It can and does get a lot wrong. It's most accurate on simple images of plain text (e.g. screenshots of social media posts) but even there produces errors from time to time. Accessibility services have to be as close to 100% accuracy as possible. OCR just isn't reliable enough for that.
Even were OCR able to 100%-accurately describe text, there are many portions of images that don't have text, or relevant context that should be placed in transcriptions to aid understanding. OCR can't do this.
"AI" in terms of what most people mean by it - generative AI - should never be used for anything where accuracy is a requirement. Generative AI doesn't answer questions, it doesn't describe images, and it doesn't read text. It takes a prompt and it generates a statistically-likely response. No matter how well-trained it is, there's always a chance that it makes up nonsense. That simply isn't acceptable for accessibility.
3. Why do you say "image transcription" and not "image ID"?
I'm from r/TranscribersOfReddit and we called them transcriptions there. It's ingrained in my mind.
For the same reason, I follow advice and standards from our old guidelines that might not exactly match how many Tumblr transcribers do things.

Can someone become a data scientist without any knowledge of statistics? Are there alternative ways to learn this field without a strong background in statistics?
Even though a statistical background helps in making a great data scientist, arguably one can break into the data science field with non-prepossessing knowledge of statistics if they emphasize other areas and progressively learn things. Actually, most of the descriptions come in for data science role in practical skills related to programming or the manipulation of data, together with machine learning, which could be taken up by coursework and some practice.
Tumblr media
Online courses and resources drive beginners toward practical development in data analysis, machine learning, and programming. Many online platforms guide interactive learning with projects that would assist in building practical skills.
Acquiring statistical knowledge can be done over time through focused study, online courses, or advanced training in statistical methods and theory.
It lies in first establishing solid grounds in the fundamental skills of data science, one step at a time, and on them building slowly related statistical knowledge that supports much further analysis and model development.

Are cloth/fabric masks effective? Or are disposable masks the best choice? I get mixed answers when I look it up; some sources say fabric masks are fine and some say n95 masks and the like are best (even moreso than classic disposable surgical masks).
(ps. Sorry to treat you like google but I figure you may have more info than I do)
Hello! Thank you for reaching out to ask this, and thank you for your patience! I really don't mind helping others learn about this, so no need to apologize! I'll try to answer these chronologically & thoroughly:
Are cloth/fabric masks effective?
No, cloth/fabric masks are not effective protection against covid-19 and its variants, especially if you're wearing just that alone. If a cloth mask is the only option you have right now, I think it's better than nothing; I would just suggest perhaps, if possible, layering the cloth mask on top of a surgical mask (Heads-up: there's a chance this may feel uncomfortable because it may feel like your breathing is being restricted). It would be best to just upgrade to something that's made with enough layers to filter out covid-19, if you're able to.
If affording quality masks is difficult for you or anyone else that reads this, I suggest:
Asking around in any libraries, youth centers, or health centers near you if they have any available to give away for free.
Checking out this link, which is supposed to be a directory of locations that offer free N95 masks (this page hasn't been updated since January, so I'm not sure how accurate it is anymore but it's still worth a shot).
Look out for folks online that are giving away masks in bulk for free; definitely measure out how comfortable you feel with sharing your address to them of course. If it helps, I can guarantee there's people out there that genuinely want to help share masks with other folks that need them, so for sure use your intuition and know that more often than not people are a lot more genuine than you think with mask distribution projects like that (I'm speaking from personal experience. I've been able to get a lot of masks for free because of the help of a couple distribution projects on Twitter; as I'm writing this, I'm currently waiting for masks to be delivered from this distribution project!)
Are disposable masks the best choice?
It depends on what disposable mask you're referring to. As you mentioned, there's a big, big difference between the quality of a blue surgical mask and a N95. This is not only because of the difference in the amount of layers they have, but also a difference in the way they can fit over your face (surgical masks are designed to be a lot looser on one's face, which allows for leaks of air wherever the gaps are; this is risky). I highly recommend an N95 or KN95. NIOSH Approved 3m Aura N95 masks are an example of quality ones you can get! (Heads-up: In general you may notice masks like N95 and KN95 are called "respirators" as opposed to "masks", and that's because they're built for the purpose of preventing aerosol inhalation & are designed to closely fit your face to block out any air leaks. This article explains the difference. I personally use the word "mask" anyways for colloquial reasons)
I recommend reading this page on the People's CDC's website about masking (I recommend looking at their content in general for updates & statistics about covid as well as recommendations & guidance). This is a mask quality chart from that previous link (image description is in the alt text):

I hope this helped!

Chapter 7: Case Studies
First | Prev / Next
Ghost possession doesn't happen often, but fatality rates are high. Even if an agent does survive, there are the aftereffects to worry about.
After surviving a possession, Lucy Carlyle struggles with recovery, delving ever deeper into the memories of Visitors and, in the process, stumbling into the world of blackmarket Sources.
Meanwhile, George Karim races to learn the truth behind ghost possession in order to protect Lucy and save future agents.
And Anthony Lockwood must face his own past with the London underworld if he wants to save his friends and himself.
-
Like the Problem itself, the cause of possession hadn't yet been solved, but not for lack of trying. Or lack of research. As usual, the first place George went for answers—or failing that, inspiration—was Portland Row's own library. The Lockwoods had been two of the most thorough researchers to ever confront the Problem. There was no aspect of it they hadn't touched on in their ethnographies, articles, and travel journals.
Resources he wouldn't have access to if he didn't live under the same roof as their son. George often forced himself to remember this fact when Lockwood wound him up.
In the case of possession, they'd traveled to America and studied the Ghost Dance practiced by the Lakota tribal nation. Dancers went into a kind of trance and communicated with dead ancestors to achieve visions or hear prophecies. George didn't know of any evidence that Visitors could be prophetic, but clearly white Americans had felt threatened enough. They massacred hundreds of Lakota people for it.
The Lockwoods had drawn parallels between the Ghost Dance trances and cases of possession. They argued that possession occurred because the Visitor was unusually determined to communicate something to the living and so latched onto a significantly Talented agent. They suspected the mortality rates were high because most agents weren't Talented enough to survive the psychical overload—except for Simon Rose, Evelyn Lawrence, Bennie Russell, and now Lucy Carlyle.
The Ghost Dancers, however, had never suffered such a fate, but the Lockwoods hadn't been able to determine why—partly because they'd been barred from witnessing the dances themselves. The Lakota people were understandably wary of sharing details with outsiders.
George, stacks of papers and cold cups of tea dominating the quiet kitchen, scoured the issue of American Anthropologist that had published their article on the subject until he caught on something.
Upon reviewing the data (fig. 31), we realized that, while agents with Sight are less susceptible to possession, they experience higher rates of mortality than their counterparts with Listening and Touch. After careful study of the Lakota Ghost Dance, practitioners' experiences during trances and their emphasis on visions, we believe this statistic is due to the fact that truly gifted Seers are simply a rarity. Few are strong enough to be sought out by Visitors and, at the time of this publication, none have been strong enough to survive the force of psychic visions.
So his theory had been wrong, or at least misinformed. Talent did have an impact on survival rates, but it was less about type and more about level.
George didn't know how much that would help Lucy. She'd only given vague descriptions of what she'd seen, how it overlaid with the living world. It didn't seem consistent with the accounts of visions made by the Lakota dancers, which were vivid and all-encompassing. Maybe Lucy's Sight wasn't powerful enough, her experience mostly defined by her Listening and Touch.
Lockwood had the strongest Sight out of the three of them, and stronger than any agent George had worked with. If they could find a reasonably safe way to test his Talent, then maybe…
"Lockwood!" George called, voice reverberating through the house.
The iron staircase down to the basement shook and rattled enough to threaten collapse as Lockwood tramped up it into the kitchen. "For the love of God, George, someone had better be haunted, haunting, or on fire because I'm gonna—"
He stopped in his tracks as he surveyed the state of the kitchen table. His white shirt stuck to him from sweat and he still had his practice rapier in his hand, slightly heavier than his others, designed for overtraining. He'd been down in the basement cutting the dummies to shreds ever since Lucy stormed out. Then the space around his eyes tightened ever so slightly as they did whenever George dug into his parents' research for a case. He had yet to tell him off for it, but the reminder clearly affected him.
"Exactly how good is your Sight, Lockwood?" George asked before he could come up with a threat.
Lockwood blinked. "What? It's fine. Why?"
"Your parents have an interesting theory about possession. I thought we might test it."
"That's what you're researching? We have a case to solve, George. We don't have time for any more experiments."
"It's to help Lucy, remember? I thought you were on board with this."
"What's my Talent got to do with Lucy? I'm on board with possession recovery, not causing it on purpose." Then Lockwood paused, looked around at the kitchen, out the darkening windows, and glanced up at the ceiling as if he could see all the way up to the attic. "Where's Lucy anyway? Has she come back yet?"
"No."
Lockwood looked at his watch and cursed. "It's been hours."
George shrugged, looking back at his papers. "She's blowing off steam."
"It's getting dark."
"She's an agent."
"I'm going after her." Lockwood disappeared out the door. More rattling came from the hallway as he traded the practice rapier for a proper one. He returned to the kitchen, dead-set determination welded in his eyes. "Seen my coat anywhere?"
"Library." When Lockwood went through the door again, he called after him, "You're going to be the last person she wants to see, you know."
He returned, shrugging his coat on. Somewhere between the kitchen and the library, he'd found spare flares and canisters to hang from his belt, the iron in his expression not in the least bit dimmed. "She can tick me off when she's safe inside. Do us a favor and stay put. No research field trips."
George rolled his eyes.
"Please, George."
"Well, since you said please…"
The door swung shut, soon followed by the resounding slam of the front door.
George sighed, reshuffled some papers around to pull out the Annabel Ward articles he'd abandoned. The inscription on the ring wasn't enough to prove Hugo Blake's guilt and he'd yet to find anything else in the dull society pages. Besides, they were psychical agents, ghost hunters, not homicide detectives. He didn't know what Lockwood was playing at.
But he'd followed him into this mess and he would follow him back out again. So George made more tea and flipped open a magazine, mind still turning over Talents and trances and descriptions of circle dances. Then he remembered. There were interviews with the possession survivors somewhere in Lockwood's stack of VHS tapes. It might be helpful to review them.
He pushed to his feet and into the library, digging through the stacks until he found what he wanted.

“Rex! We could use some help down here,” Anakin grits out into his comm as he continues deflecting several blaster bolts coming his way.
“Coming, General,” the Captain answers, yelling something at a group of 501st troopers at his side.
They follow him down the slope of land they had previously been fighting on, over to where Skywalker, Tano and a few other men were fighting. Since they had the high ground upon the slope, it had been easier to defeat the enemy from there without the help of either Jedi. Down here, with all the rocky ground and dust whirling around, it was a completely different story.
Not to mention that this was the second wave of Separatist forces they had come across so far, and Rex was pretty sure General Skywalker had taken more than one hit to the head already.
“Ugh! Whoever keeps reprogramming these tin cans sure knows what they’re doing!” Ahsoka yells in frustration, taking the risk and charging forwards to cut a few down, despite the heavy blaster fire directed at her.
“I wouldn’t go that far,” Anakin counters, letting out a small grunt when he has to physically evade another round of blasterbolts, something stinging in his head as he does so. “It’s all just about- ugh! — statistics, and- … — strength in numbers!”
“My bad, I forgot droids are your projects of passion,” Ahsoka rolls her eyes, cutting down another half dozen battle droids before making her way to the tanks.
“Aim for the tanks!” Rex yells, understanding her strategy.
The two large cannons they had situated on top of the slope were rotated to aid the combat below, and aim to take out the tanks, which were their main problems. The Jedi could cut down hundreds of droids in no time, but with tanks it was a whole different level of blaster fire. To deflect a tank’s bolts was more strenuous than simple blaster bolts, and as long as there was an overwhelming amount of fire directed at them, they were barely able to even move forwards through the droids.
Ahsoka moves quickly, grabbing a bomb from her belt, flipping on top of the tank, opening the first hatch and throwing it in, then jumping to the other one and repeating the same process. Before the tank even fully exploded, she was already on her way to the next one, turning and deflecting bolts here and there, as well as cutting down any droids in her path.
However, once she got to the second one, she realized she only had one bomb left. With another frustrated groan, she continued deflecting bolts, keeping to the tank’s blind side as she comms Rex.
“I’m all out of bombs! Either you get down here and help me — and please tell me you’re not also out of bombs — or this mission is going to absolute sith hells!”
“Don’t worry, Commander,” answers Rex. “I’ve got more than enough for these clankers.”
“That’s what I like to hear,” she says, her smirk evident in her voice as she continues fighting the droids with newfound motivation.
Once in range, Rex signals to her and tosses a few bombs her way and they start taking down the tanks one by one. By the time they were down to the last one, Anakin and the rest of the troops had already advanced through most of the battle droids in front of the tanks and were now quickly working their way through all the way.
The destruction of the last tank was a sign of victory, for the path through the rest of the droids would be far easier now. It ended up taking them less than 5 minutes to destroy every last one and then they were moving onwards, Anakin, Rex and Ahsoka at the front with the men marching behind them.
They were nearing a field of tall rock formations, which looked similar to a labyrinth on the map. It wasn’t a holomap; it was a regular piece of paper. They didn’t have time to transfer the map they were given by the natives of the planet to a holo device, where it would have been 3D and tracking their standpoint at all times. This way, they had to keep track of where they were themselves, and of course Anakin was in possession of the map and leading them. There was a smear of blood in his sleeve, which he had wiped off his forehead earlier around the second time he got hit over the head. Thanks to his dark robes, it was hardly noticeable, and he walked with the injured side of his head turned away from his Padawan and Captain.
“I don’t like this place,” Jesse says from somewhere behind them, drawing a small laugh from Fives who was walking beside him.
“Well, lucky for you, it won’t be long until we’ll be on our way off this rock,” Anakin responds with a confident chuckle.
They continue walking, with Anakin leading them through the labyrinth. Once they get about halfway through it, they decide to take a short break, as they hadn’t taken a singular break since they started the campaign. Most troopers opted to sit down on the ground or some larger rocks while others decided to stay standing. Everyone was eating their ration bar and drinking some water, soft chatter filling the air. Kix was doing his rounds, checking on the men’s wellbeing and taking care of anyone who was wounded during the battle. Ahsoka found herself roped into a conversation with Fives about whether ‘tinnies’ or ‘clankers’ was a better nickname for the battle droids, Rex watching them with an amused expression on his face. He felt a bit more at ease now that Kix was making his rounds, working his way around to General Skywalker. Rex had witnessed both times the Jedi had hit his head and had paid close attention to every time he touched his head or swayed slightly.
However, as their luck would have it, there was some sudden commotion a bit further away, from the troopers who had been walking in the back. It all happened so fast, screams and the shots being fired echoing in Rex’s head as he whips his head around, puts on his bucket and pulls his blasters out as he runs towards the sounds.
Massiffs are ugly creatures, reaching up to about a grown man’s waist, with large mouths containing razor sharp teeth. Teeth which Rex was currently watching being sunk into his brothers.
“Shab,” he swears under his breath.
“Sithspit!” Ahsoka hisses out from somewhere on his left around the same time. “How did this happen?!”
“I thought Jedi were able to sense lifeforms!” Fives yells through the comm.
“We’re supposed to!” Anakin responds sharply. “Ahsoka, I thought I told you to always-”
He cuts himself off with a grunt and Rex looks in his direction to see that a few of the Massiffs seem to have jumped onto him, knocking him onto his back with their weight and speed.
“I got it!” Ahsoka tells Rex and he nods, continuing to fight the ugly beasts.
“Little help here, Snips!” Anakin grits out, currently trying to keep three Massiffs from sinking their teeth into his throat with his bare hands while his lightsaber lay discarded a few meters away.
Ahsoka skillfully beheads all three of the creatures with one swing of her lightsaber, causing their bodies to go limp and drop down on top of Anakin. Looking around, everything seemed to be clearing up, so she crouches down and helps her Master sit up. With a disgusted look on his face, he shakes the dead Massiffs off of himself.
“Master, are you okay? Your eyes don’t really look like you’re here with me,” Ahsoka says with a small frown, studying his face and then scanning his body for injuries with her eyes.
“I’m fine, Snips,” he waves her off, shaking his head slightly and blinking several times.
“Are you sure? ‘Cause I saw you hit your head again when you fell,” she points out. “What’s that now, three times?”
“I said I’m fine, Ahsoka,” Anakin says, irritation clear in his voice. “Go check on the men.”
With great reluctance, the Padawan stands up and leaves her Master to check on the troopers. They had lost a handful of soldiers to the creatures’ sudden ambush, and Ahsoka was sure even if she wasn’t a Jedi, she would still be able to physically feel the morale sinking among the men. She tried to pat as many of them on the back as possible, asking them all if they got injured. Through them she had made her way over to Rex, who was watching the dead being dragged into a pile for later pick-up. Never leave a man behind.
“What the hell was that?!” Fives exclaims as he comes up to them before Ahsoka has the chance to say anything to the Captain.
“Massiffs,” Ahsoka answered. “We’ve encountered them before on planets like Geonosis and Tatooine. They seem to really like rocks and dust.”
“Yeah, and humans,” Fives commented, running a hand through his jet black hair. “Wha-”
“Another comment about how we should’ve been able to sense them and I’ll drag you right back to them,” Ahsoka threatens Fives, her index finger pointing at him.
“Sorry, Commander,” he admits sheepishly, and Ahsoka feels bad for her small outburst.
“No, I’m sorry, Fives, it’s just…,” she sighs as she turns to Rex, running her hand over her face, halfway up her montral and then down her right lek, trying to soothe the concern tingling within it. “Master Skywalker is injured. Concussion, probably, and I’m not sure how bad it is.”
Rex mirrors her sigh. “Yeah, I know. He hit his head twice back there with the clankers.”
“He hit it another time just now, actually,” she says. “When he was pounced on by those Massiffs.”
“Ha’arangir dinuir ni kot,” Rex mumbled under his breath, pinching his nose. “Jaro jetii…”
Ahsoka could tell Fives was holding back laughter and scrunched up her nose, once again reminding herself to ask them to teach her some more Mando’a other than the basics once they’re all back on the Resolute.
“Alright, Fives, tell the men to get ready to keep going, we need to move before anything else can happen,” he sighs, then turns to Ahsoka as Fives runs off. “Let’s go help Kix.”
Ahsoka looks at him with a confused expression on her face, but once she turns around to look in the direction Rex was heading in, she couldn’t hold back an exasperated eyeroll and another sigh. Trailing after Rex, they made their way over to where Anakin was sitting up on a rock and arguing with Kix. The medic had his kit next to him and he was holding a roll of thick, white bandages, waving it around exasperatedly in the air.
“...concussion… consequences, which… memory and concentration problems, mood… personality… insomnia, sight… balance, speech impediments…,” as they got closer they could pick up bits and pieces of Kix lecturing Anakin. “Sensory disorders… and don’t even get me started on how many of these can become long term problems!”
“Hey, it’s not a big deal! I’ll just let them pop me into a bacta tank when I get back and I’ll be as good as new,” Anakin waves him off.
“You do know Kix outranks you in this, right?” Ahsoka jumps in. “Isn’t it, like, illegal to not follow higher authority?”
“Since when do I ever follow orders, Snips? Since when do you?” Anakin challenges, crossing his arms.
“Since today,” she smiles tightly at him, walking behind him and putting her hands on his tense shoulders. “Stop hassling Kix, just let him do his job and we’ll be able to move on and pop you in that bacta tank so much quicker.”
“Alright, fine,” Anakin groans. “But this is such a waste of time.”
No one responds to that, though they were all probably thinking the same thing. Kix shoots Ahsoka a thankful look and begins checking Anakin’s head for injuries, cleaning both a cut at his hairline and one at the back of his head from blood. He tests the General’s reflexes and shines a light in his eyes, his face set into a tight frown the whole time. After applying some bacta-cream to the wounds he tightly wraps a strap around Anakin’s head in several layers of white bandages.
“Alright, you should be good for now, but you are not cleared for battle,” Kix says and Anakin’s eyes widen almost comically.
“What?! There’s no way I’m sitting back on the sidelines,” Anakin protests while Kix starts packing up his medkit.
“You won’t be,” Kix says. “You’ll be standing.”
Ahsoka could feel the stubborn, frustrated defiance radiate off her Master. She watches him try to calm himself and thinks back to what Kix said about the consequences of a concussion. The parts she heard, anyway.
“You know, not to pour salt into open wounds, but don’t you think it might be better if I take over the reading of the map? Since you’re concussed,” she says.
“Snips, I could read this map with my eyes closed,” he assures her arrogantly. “Stop worrying.”
The young Padawan throws her hands up and backs away. “Whatever you say, Master. But I think it’s a bad idea.”
“So do I,” Kix mumbles, but Anakin doesn’t acknowledge it.
He stands up and even though he hides it well, Ahsoka and the two clones can see the small wobble in his knees and the way his eyes flit around for a short moment, as though he got dizzy for a second. But Anakin braces himself and brushes it off, clipping his lightsaber back onto his belt and walking over to where the rest of the troopers are ready to keep going.
“Alright, men, let’s move it,” he tells them and starts marching off into the rest of the labyrinth.
“Jare’la jetii…,” Kix sighs and shakes his head before walking over to join the troopers’ formation at his spot.
“Let’s catch up to Anakin before he gets hit over the head a fourth time,” Ahsoka tells Rex who only laughs grimly in response and they head for the top of the formation.
They had been walking for a while, and Ahsoka felt more highly strung and on edge watching Anakin sway slightly from time to time than she had ever been during any battle. Wondering if she would have to catch up, if she could even carry him. With the Force she could of course, but would she be able to act quickly enough if he suddenly tipped to the side?
“Hey, Echo,” she hears Fives’ mischievous voice from behind her. “What does that rock remind you of?”
“You’re such a child,” she heard Echo’s annoyed voice before Fives bursts into a small fit of laughter, Jesse joining him.
Ahsoka looks around to see what they were talking about, and spots a rock on top of one of the lower formations looking like a certain… phallic object. She rolls her eyes at Fives’ immaturity, though a small smile creeps onto her face which she tries to hide behind her hand.
“See? The Commander found it funny!” Fives says, effectively wiping any trace of amusement from Ahsoka’s face.
“Just because I smiled at how stupid your jokes are, doesn’t mean I find them funny,” she crosses her arms defensively.
“Fives, stay focused,” Rex warns, which funnily enough also had a back-straightening effect on Ahsoka.
“Yes, sir,” Fives responded quickly, but Ahsoka could practically feel him making faces at her back underneath his helmet.
They continue on, Ahsoka growing increasingly more worried over how quiet her Master was being. She wants to ask him if he’s alright, if he needs a break or if he needs her to take over, but doesn’t want to make him any more agitated than he already is. A few minutes of walking later, somewhere from behind her Ahsoka hears Fives again.
“Ha! Another one!” He chuckles and she can almost hear Echo’s eyeroll.
She doesn’t look for it this time, keeping her eyes on her Master’s rather unsteady form and tunes the rest of their conversation out. Out of the corner of her eye she can see Rex slightly shaking his head at his brothers’ antics, but not interfering in their harmless conversation.
Now, Ahsoka wasn’t normally one to be anxious, especially not about a battle which they had almost already won anyway. However, she felt a dark pit of something stirring in her gut at the sight of her Master’s pale face and softly trembling hands. His shields were pulled down tightly around him, so she strived to do the same. Out of all the times, now wouldn’t be the best for her to hear a snarky comment about keeping her emotions and worries to herself.
“I see something you don’t,” Fives sang quietly from behind her, clearly aimed at Echo.
“Fives, if it’s another… rock, then you can gladly keep that sight to yourself,” the clone responded.
Ahsoka doesn’t believe in coincidences, nor a multitude of phallic rocks. She turns her eyes up and sees a rock looking oddly familiar. No, not just familiar, it looked eerily similar to the first rock Fives had pointed out. No, not just similar. That was the exact same rock.
“I bet 25 credits that’s the same rock we passed the other two times,” Jesse took the words out of her mouth and her eyes widened.
“Ugh!” Anakin exclaims angrily and stops walking, glaring down at the piece of paper in his hand. “I think the map is leading us in circles!”
“No, I think you’re the one leading us in circles!” Ahsoka retorts, pointing an accusing finger at his chest.
“Well, I’m sorry, but it’s a little hard to read when I’ve been hit over the head three times already!” Anakin argues back. “I told you I could take over! And you said ‘Snips, I could read this map with my eyes closed, stop worrying’,” she lowered her voice mockingly to mimic him. “Well- that was before we got attacked by those Massiffs!” He argues back, crossing his arms stubbornly. “No, it wasn’t!” Ahsoka can feel herself getting more frustrated by the minute and she takes a deep breath to calm down slightly before she continues. “Master, with all due respect, I think it’s best you sit this one out and give me the map to lead us the rest of the way.” He looks torn between staying stubborn, and slowly realizing that she’s right and he needs to do what’s best for the mission, for the squad. With a sigh he uncrosses his arms, his shoulders sagging slightly.
“Alright, you’re right,” he nods and a relieved smile grows on Ahsoka’s face.
But when she reaches out her hand to take the map from him, he reaches it over her head and shoves it into Rex’s chest instead. The Padawan looks at her Master with a questioning and slightly offended look on her face. All he does in response is shrug his shoulders and smirk at her.
“You’re crazy if you think I’d let you lead us after you failed your cartography class,” he remarks, starting to walk again, this time after Rex. “That was only by two points!” She whines but follows them nonetheless.
She could hear a few snickers coming from behind her and started silently planning how to get away with murdering Fives, Jesse and Hardcase.
“I’ll help you hide their bodies,” Echo whispers to her through the comm as if he had read her mind, and she has to fight to hold in her laughter.
To no one’s surprise, Rex managed to lead them out of the labyrinth in no time. Now they were at the top of another hill, which led down to the illegally built and seemingly very poorly placed Separatist base.
“Ahsoka, you and I are going to-,” Anakin starts devising the plan, but is immediately cut off by Rex.
“Sir, with all due respect, Kix didn’t clear you for combat,” he reminds the General and Ahsoka nods in agreement.
“What? That doesn’t matter,” Anakin responds. “I’m the General, I’m here to lead my men into combat, not sit back and watch them do it alone all because of a few little accidents!”
“You have a concussion!” Ahsoka exclaims. “A very serious result from all those ‘little accidents’!”
“Whatever, all that matters is I’m not staying here,” Anakin crosses his arms stubbornly and Ahsoka groans and rolls her eyes.
“Master, will you stop being so stubborn?! This is what’s best for you, for the men, for the mission! You can barely stand straight!”
“I’m fine! You can’t tell me what to do, I’m the Master and you’re the Padawan!”
“Then why am I so much wiser,” Ahsoka mumbles under her breath as she goes to look for Kix to maybe give Anakin a sedative or something of the sort.
But of course, as soon as she was stuck somewhere in the sea of troopers, Anakin gave the order to start the attack. With him leading them. Of course.
Letting out a small, frustrated growl, accidentally scaring a shiny running past her, she turns around and follows them. If Anakin was going to be so stupid as to do something like this, she’ll need to keep an eye on him. So the next time he hits his head isn’t the last time.
She runs, moving quickly and smoothly in between the soldiers, until she spots Anakin’s dark robes somewhere at the entrance of the base. With a sigh, she speeds up her pace, already drawing her saber as she sees the endless army of droids flooding out from the base.
When Ahsoka is engaged in heavy blaster fire, still a good bit away from Anakin, she bites back another frustrated growl. Throughout the battle, she tries to inch closer and closer to Anakin, always keeping an eye on him. Which, admittedly, worsened her focus.
“Commander, watch out!” Rex yells through the comm, the sound vibrating in her montrals as she instinctively ducks and rolls out of the way of an incoming shot from the cannons the droids had suddenly assembled.
“Thanks, Rex,” she responds, slightly out of breath.
The small distraction had been enough for Ahsoka to lose sight of Anakin and she looked around in a frenzy, trying to spot him. She managed to catch sight of dark robes disappearing inside the base and immediately ran after him, fighting off droids along the way. Once inside, it became clear to her that Anakin had taken the task of blowing up the base upon himself and was distributing bombs inside. Luckily, this meant she would have an easier time finding him, as she would only have to follow the trail of bombs and destroyed droids left behind.
Upon closing in on his location, she could hear the struggles of a fight. Ahsoka runs into the command center, lightsabers raised and ready. She is met with a sight she never thought she’d see; Anakin Skywalker was getting his ass kicked. Now, of course he’s gotten his ass handed to him plenty of times before by many adversaries, however, this ass handing was happening by two BX-series commando droids. Two. He was sloppy in his form, his footing off and unbalanced, his swings with his lightsaber were either too wide or too short, sometimes even a complete miss as though he were seeing things wrong, and Ahsoka had to remind herself she was here to help him, not watch him lose.
So, she charges at the nearest droid and engages it in a fight. The BX-series commando droids were quite quick and skilled, but of course, no match for a Jedi. Except if that Jedi happens to be suffering from a severe concussion.
“What if you just followed orders and stopped running all over the place for once?” Ahsoka yelled, gritting her teeth as she dodged the droid’s attempt to flip over her and grab her.
“That is a lot coming from you, my Padawan!” Anakin yells back. “As you can see, I’m doing just fine on my-”
A loud crash interrupted him and Ahsoka spun around to check where it came from. Anakin had been thrown against one of the monitors on the wall so hard that it had cracked, and he was lying on the floor in front of it, seemingly unconscious or unable to move. Ahsoka feels panic grip her and she fights even more fiercely, taking down the droid she had been fighting with a slice diagonally through its torso. With quick, long strides, she makes her way between the other droid and her Master, right when it was about to raise its blaster to his head. Aware of the beeping from the bombs all around her and unsure whether they were remote controlled or on a clock, she felt the pressure of time either way. With a few smart and controlled moves, she finally manages to take down the second droid as well. Breathing heavily, she clips her sabers to her belt, doing the same with Anakin’s lightsaber before hoisting him up by her shoulder. She slung one of his arms around her neck and held it there tightly, wrapping her other arm firmly around his waist and beginning to drag him along.
“Come on, Master, just hold on,” she mumbles more to herself than him, as he didn’t seem particularly conscious at the moment. “We’ve almost made it.”
Her arms are growing numb and her neck and shoulders hurt from his weight. Ahsoka’s knees buckle slightly and she grinds her teeth together, trying to use the Force to take some of the weight off, but it was a bit tricky, especially since she herself was quite worn from the constant fighting they had been doing. She turned around the corner and was finally able to see the exit. Anakin started stirring slightly, making Ahsoka’s concentration waver slightly. Her legs were shaking from the effort of carrying her Master and moving as fast as possible.
“Snips…,” Anakin groans, eyes fluttering.
“It’s alright, Master, just hold on and we’ll be right out,” she says.
“Ahsoka, the… the bombs, they’re…,” Anakin’s eyes widen and he drops to the floor, causing Ahsoka to almost crash down on top of him.
“No, no, come on, we need to hurry! What about the bombs?!” She asks frantically, pulling at his arm with all her strength.
They were so close to the exit, only a few more meters and they’d be outside. The young togruta was panicking, desperately trying to pull her Master back up while praying to the Force that he was still alive and wouldn’t suffer any long-lasting damage.
And then she felt it. Like a cold touch, starting at the back of her neck and traveling down her spine like a shiver. Her blood went cold and sweat started to build on her forehead and the back of her neck. With her heart beating into her throat, everything felt like it was moving in slow-motion. But instead of this helping Ahsoka act quickly, it slowed her down as well. Her limbs felt heavy and sluggish, as though she were wading through water. Suddenly, she felt Anakin’s grip on her loosen, and a powerful force pushed her forward, past the exit of the facility. Shortly thereafter, while she was still in the air, another burst of power came from behind her, propelling her forward another couple meters. Ahsoka landed face first in the dry dirt, scraping her chin and feeling blood fill her nose and mouth. Her knees, shins, forearms and elbows were stinging, indicating they were probably all scraped up as well. It felt as though her head was wrapped in cotton, everything sounding muffled and she could barely pay attention to any of it. There was a ringing sound vibrating through her montrals and the young togruta brought her hands up and softly cupped them, squeezing her eyes shut.
Suddenly there were two fingers pressing into her pulsepoint, as though someone were checking her pulse. The hand moved to her shoulder and another one, though gloved, wrapped around her upper arm. Incoherent shouting floated through the air and bounced around in her montrals like an echo. The ungloved hand felt warm and familiar, as well as the strength that came with it as she was pulled up into a sitting position and back against a plastoid chestplate.
“-mander? Commander, can you hear me?” Rex’s voice slowly became clear again, the ringing subsiding and Ahsoka slowly let go of her montrals and let her arms fall limp at her side. “Hey, ad’ika, you here with me?”
“Rex?” She asks, a few trails of blood spilling down her chin, both from her mouth and nose. “What happened?”
Her speech was quiet and slightly slurred and Rex’s gloved hand let go of her upper arm to wipe the blood from her chin. She winced slightly as his thumb grazed over the bloody scrapes on her chin.
“What happened?” She repeats when he doesn’t answer.
“There was an explosion,” Rex finally said. “You made it out in time though, it seems the loud noise is just messing with you and you’ll feel better and more… present, in a second.”
“Is Anakin okay?” She immediately follows up and tries to look around to see if she can spot her Master.
“He’s very beat up, but alive,” Rex says. “Nothing too bad. Kix is with him right now, we should get you to him as well.”
“Did we win?” She asks, looking up at him with big eyes.
He chuckles slightly. “Yes, Commander. We won.”
“Thank the Force,” she sighs tiredly, relaxing slightly against his chest.
“Alright, let’s get you to Kix,” Rex says, turning her slightly to wrap one arm around her back and slide the other underneath the backs of her knees. “The relief effort will be here soon.”
Ahsoka wraps her arms around the clone’s neck and lets him carry her over to where Kix was tending to Anakin. Usually, she would always insist on walking on her own, but after having spent so much time worrying about Anakin and fighting, she was tired. Despite her injuries not being very bad, she was thankful to be carried anyway.
After having bacta cream smeared onto her knees, arms, chin and palms by Kix, Ahsoka felt much better by the time several troop transports landed, as well as one larger ship for equipment storage and medical attention. The relief effort had arrived surprisingly quickly, and Ahsoka helped carry some equipment on board the ship, until Anakin was passing by on a stretcher, finally awake. He looked like shit, but Ahsoka was happy to see him either way. She ran up to him and the two medics carrying him and walked alongside them.
“That was some fine fighting you did out there, General Skywalker,” Ahsoka shows up at his side with a teasing smile. “You gonna listen to us next time?” “Yeah, yeah, whatever,” Anakin groans when they angle the stretcher slightly to carry him up the ramp into the ship, leaving behind a smirking Ahsoka.
“Have fun in the bacta tank!”

What You’ll Learn in a Data Science Bootcamp: A Syllabus Breakdown
At a time when companies are so dependent on information, it is not an exaggeration to say that the job of a data analyst is essential. Data analysts are vital whether they report to a retail company to understand their customer behaviours or a hospital to understand how to treat its patients better by making sense out of their data insights. So what can one do on those with little or no background in data? The following guide will help you, even starting with zero, on how to become a data analyst.
What Does a Data Analyst Do?
It is good to know what a data analyst does before getting straight to the steps. A data analyst gathers, analyses and interprets data in order to aid organizations undertake problem solving and make sound decisions.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Collection and cleaning up of data
operative Trends and pattern analysis
Report and dashboard creation
Presenting clear solutions to laypeople teams
Consider a data analyst as a translator, one who makes confusing numbers tell stories that other individuals can be able to act on.
Step 1: Understand the Role and Assess Your Interest
Everyone fond of the numbers is not suited to do the data analysis. It takes curiosity, attention to details, and communication abilities.
Problem:Most novices believe that it is more concerned with coding or math, but pay insufficient attention to the storytelling part and critical thinking.
Solution: Start by reading job descriptions or talking to professionals. Ask yourself:
Is it that I like solving puzzles?
Do I get along or am I comfortable with spreadsheets or numbers?
Is my preference to get the solution based on data?
Real-life example: Sarah, a customer support rep, saw trends in the field of complaints and began to monitor it in Excel. She did not realize it at the time, but she was already engaging in this kind of basic data analysis.
Step 2: Learn the Basics of Data and Analytics
You don’t need a degree in statistics to start, but you do need foundational knowledge.
Core Areas to Learn:
Spreadsheets (Excel or Google Sheets): These are often the first tools used for data analysis.
Statistics and Math: Understand averages, medians, probability, and standard deviation.
Data Visualization: Learn how to create charts and graphs that make data easy to understand.
Basic SQL (Structured Query Language): This helps you access and retrieve data from databases.
Antithesis: Some argue that you need to master advanced programming languages first. But in reality, many data analysts begin with spreadsheets and work their way up.
Step 3: Learn a Data Analysis Tool or Language
Once you’ve mastered the basics, it’s time to get comfortable with one or more tools used in the field.
Commonly Used Tools:
SQL: For querying databases
Python or R: For advanced analysis and automation
Tableau or Power BI: For creating dashboards and visual reports
Practical Tip: Don’t try to learn everything at once. Choose one tool based on the kind of job you’re aiming for. If you're interested in marketing analysis, Excel and SQL might be enough to start. If you’re leaning towards finance or research, Python may be more useful.
Step 4: Work on Real Projects
The theoretical study is amazing, but the practice is what leads to development.
Problem: Most learners are helpless upon completion of courses: they have experience only.
Solution: Run your own project. For example:
Open government data analysis
Follow your own spending and start trending
Compare the house prices locally based on the available information provided by the government
Real-life example:  John, a teacher who was transformed into a data analyst, will have opportunities to find patterns and causes of absence by relying on school attendance data. He worked in Excel and later was able to include Tableau to add visualizations. It turned into a powerful resume item during job applications.
Step 5: Build a Portfolio
Employers would like to know what you are capable of. Portfolio demonstrates your abilities in practice and helps to prove that you are ready to be hired.
What to Include:
The description of the project in brief consists of the following:
Tool and approaches employed
Visual aids such as charts or dashboard
Your convictions and conclusions
You are able to share a portfolio on your personal blog, LinkedIn, or GitHub. It is all a matter of clarity and confidence with which you can deliver your work.
Step 6: Practice Communication Skills
Becoming a data analyst is not merely all about numbers. You should communicate your results to those who may not be conversant with data in any way.
Key Skills to Develop:
Clearly formulated writing
Creating great slide decks
Giving a secure presentation during meetings
Antithesis: Some others suppose that powerful technical proficiency is a guarantee on its own. Nevertheless, analysts that are somehow incompetent in communicating their results will not have much impact.
Step 7: Apply for Entry-Level Roles or Internships
With a few solid projects and basic tools under your belt, you’re ready to start applying. Look for roles like:
Junior Data Analyst
Reporting Analyst
Business Intelligence Intern
Tailor your resume to highlight practical skills and include links to your portfolio.
Final Thoughts
Turning into a data analyst is not a race. You do not require being a mathematical genius or a coding master to start. Curiosity, an ability to learn and patience to develop skills gradually are also needed.
Summary Checklist:
Understand the role
master fundamentals (spreadsheet, statistics, SQL)
Select any one analysis tool
Carry out real world projects
Create a portfolio
Practice communication
Take entry level jobs
It may seem overwhelming at first, but many successful analysts started just where you are—curious, uncertain, but ready to learn.
