Summary: Adopting Amy was the best decision the two of you ever made

Tagging: @lt-bradshaw​ My friend I hope you don’t mind if I did a little sequel piece to that little drabble you did the other night, I’m just paying it forward (lol). 

You felt a set of strong arms coiling around you as you scrubbed away the last of the grime on the dinner plates and a little bit of stubble tickling your jaw. “How goes Momma?” that deep, familiar voice purred. 

“Tired as ever Rhett,” you chuckled. 

You felt his warm lips on your cheek and the familiar smell of hay and horses radiating off of Rhett’s warm body. You had never felt so safe or so at ease with anyone but him. You were glad that you had said yes to Rhett those four long years ago. 

All of a sudden, you heard an eruption of screechy little giggles coming from the living room along with a snort and a low woof. Rhett broke away from you for the moment to see what was up, wandering into the living room to find Diesel near Amy’s playpen and the eight month old giggling like crazy. 

“You teasin the dog?” Rhett half laughed as he scooped her right up. “Huh? You teasin Diesel, sweet girl?” 

Amy squeaked before she pressed her wet little mouth against Rhett’s jaw, drawing a laugh out of him. He still couldn’t believe that you and him were now Amy’s parents. He thought for sure that Perry would put up such a fight that he’d keep her, but much to your surprise, the courts saw the evidence and knew he was unfit to take care of Amy. The actual fight between him and Rhett after the whole thing had been settled? You were terrified out of your mind at the shouting, the breaking of glass and the obscenities Rhett had hurled at Perry, that you were surprised Sheriff Joy hadn’t been called. 

“Aaaw, she likes you,” you cooed. 

Rhett laughed again as he tickled Amy, the eight month old wrapping her tiny little fingers around Rhett’s bigger one. 

“Here, you can give her to me,” you said. “I’ll give her a bath tonight.” 

“You sure?” Rhett asked you. 

“You did it last night, so now it’s my turn.” 

He carefully handed Amy off to you before you retreated upstairs to give her a bath. Rhett let Diesel out into the yard to do his business, the yard still completely covered in snow and the pasture fences poking about halfway up from beneath. As soon as he had done his business, Rhett let him back in and locked the door for the night. 

“Lie down,” Rhett commanded, snapping his fingers. 

Diesel laid right down on his bed without hesitation as Rhett loaded the woodstove and lit it for the night. God he he hated March and how the days dragged on, the winter blues setting in earlier than usual. Yet with the winter blues had come immense relief. He had called Royal earlier in the day to gripe and had found out that Perry still hadn’t shown his face after the fight two weeks before. Rhett could’ve cared less. The less he had to deal with Perry, the better. 

“Oh Daddy,” you chirped as you came down the stairs. “Your little princess missed you.” 

“And Daddy missed his little princess,” Rhett added, taking Amy from you and kissing her soft little cheeks. “C’mon baby. It’s bedtime for you.” 

Rhett brought her right upstairs to the nursery that you two had put together for when Amy had at last become yours. You had to give Royal and Rhett serious credit for building the crib when she was first born, taking it with you as soon as you had finished building your own house. 

Rhett seated himself in the creaky old rocker, drawing the quilt Cecelia had made, over him and Amy as her little head came to rest on Rhett’s chest. He loved the fact that you and Cecelia had both worked together on it, the little patches all stitched with little patches that had characters from the Peter Rabbit stories all over them. 

“Oh my bug, ya’ll are tired aren’t you?” he cooed as Amy’s half lidded little eyes began to slowly close. “You’ve had a long day, huh? Buggin Momma the way you do?”

Amy yawned before she finally fell asleep and Rhett carefully placed her in her crib, tucking her in and covering her with the quilt before placing a kiss on her little head. “Night night princess,” he whispered before shutting off the light, her quiet little snores being the only sound in the room. 

“She asleep?” you asked when you caught Rhett in the hallway.

“She’ll sleep till morning,” Rhett whispered. “Ma said she’d come and get her in the morning.” 

You wrapped your arms around his waist and kissed your husband, a little shiver running through your body. “You ok Darlin?” Rhett asked. “You’re shivering.” 

“I wanna show you something,” you said. 

You pulled Rhett into your shared bedroom and handed him something small and square. When he tore off the silver paper that held it in, his eyes grew huge. “I.......you........are you......?” 

You nodded, the tears starting to form in your eyes. 

A quiet little “oh” escaped Rhett’s throat as he stared at the framed sonogram picture and in complete disbelief. You two had been trying since you had gotten married to have a child and now your efforts had finally paid off. 

“Oh.....oh baby.....” Rhett sobbed as he drew you into his arms. “I can’t believe this. Are you really?” 

“Yes, Rhett, I am,” you told him, the tears starting to flow from your own eyes. “Your Ma took me to the doctor last week and she said I was.” 

Something akin to a sob and a laugh escaped Rhett’s throat, overwhelmed with joy that you two were finally going to have a child of your own. “Can I?” he croaked. 

You laughed a little as you lay on your back, moving your shirt up so that your abdomen was exposed. You felt Rhett’s warm cheeks pressing against your skin and the sandpapery feeling of his stubble tickling you a little.

“Hi baby,” he murmured. “Your Momma and I can’t wait to meet you. And your big sister too. She’s still little but I know she’ll love you. We both already love you.” 

And you knew that all three of you would.

The W-43 Saga: Oldsmobile’s Experimental 32-Valve 455 V8

Oldsmobile’s experimental W-43 engine is surrounded in myth, legend, and a tall tale or two. Let’s see if we can sort it all out. 

Here at Mac’s Motor City Garage, we’re grateful to the World Wide Web for rediscovering so many wonderful stories in automotive history and bringing them to public attention. Still, we have to note that that often, the info isn’t always totally accurate—which is only natural, we suppose. After all, the internet could be described as the biggest and longest game of Telephone in history.

Take this fascinating engine, for instance: the Oldsmobile W-43, an experimental V8 developed in 1967-69. Various sources have described this engine as a hemi (it isn’t) or a Can-Am engine (that was never its purpose) or a double overhead-cam design (nope). In truth, the W-43 was a conventional overhead-valve, pushrod V8, in the classic Motor City style, but with special cylinder heads and valvetrain that provided four valves per cylinder.

To the average car enthusiast, a four-valve head with pushrod operation—that is, each rocker arm and pushrod operating a pair of valves—may seem like an outlandish setup, but in the diesel truck world it’s fairly commonplace (Cummins and Detroit, to name two). It looks cumbersome but it works just fine, especially where high engine speeds are not required.

The W-43 was indeed based on a standard 455 CID production block, but with some key modifications, including four-bolt main caps and special valve follower retainers that bolted into the lifter valley. The spark plugs were buried in tubes in the center of the valve covers, which no doubt fed the stories that the engine was a hemi. Bore, stroke, and other significant specs were identical to the production 455 CID V8. There was also an aluminum-block variant of the W-43 designated the OW-43, and the program eventually produced an experimental four-cam, 32-valve V8 based on the production engine’s architecture.

With four valves per cylinder, the combustion chambers of the W-43 were not hemispherical but rather a classic pentroof layout, utilizing shallow valve angles in the Cosworth style. Intake valves were 1.75 inches in diameter and 1.375 inches on the exhaust, providing 43 percent more intake valve area than the production 455 two-valve heads. According to a feature in the May 1971 issue of Hot Rod magazine, the W-43 was good for 440 horsepower at 4600 rpm in a relatively mild state of tune. And given the improved volumetric efficiency enabled by the far greater valve area, that figure seems downright conservative.

Reportedly, the W-43 V8 was at one point considered as an across the board replacement for the standard two-valve 455 CID V8, but as we know, that never happened. Various theories have been proposed to explain why, including stricter emissions regulations and corporate infighting with the far more powerful Chevrolet division at General Motors. But as we see it, the four-valve version’s considerably greater size, weight, and manufacturing cost would have been more than sufficient to kill the program. At least two W-43 prototype engines still exist, one of them incomplete, but their current whereabouts are unclear.

They laughed at me, but I knew in my secret heart that I was having the hottest import night of all. The year was 2000, and owners of Honda Civics were watching their own cars duking it out with the cops on the nightly TV news. Lisa Kubo had just struck a blow for women’s rights everywhere by being the first lady in history to replace four head gaskets in one evening.

Front-wheel-drive, high-horsepower compact car drag racing was finally in style, and I was right there to enjoy it in my fibreglass-and-neon-clad 1984 Cadillac Cimarron. Totally stock, of course. Sure, the entire NHRA-mandated roll cage was filled with nitrous oxide, and the original engine had been gone over a few times by GM’s in-house performance team called “the Tim Hortons dumpster,” but basically the same car that Grandma Hitler picked up in late 1983.

There were a lot of differences between traditional NHRA drag racing and the new breed. For one thing, nobody would race a Cadillac over at the traditional tracks. And if they did, they’d know instinctively that any weirdo showing up in a rebadged Cavalier is either really slow, or extremely fast. Here, I was surrounded by racers who could quote every line of Vin Diesel’s most famous role, and knew a Honda Civic factory service manual back-to-front, but were completely unaware of the power potential of my humble luxobarge J-body, even clad in neon stripes and with a then-new Garrett ball-bearing turbocharger sticking out of the hood where the windshield washer bottle used to be.

Of course, even the best-laid plans can go awry. The Christmas tree had barely blinked the green when I saw a set of the parts store’s finest Corvette roller rockers go flying past my windshield, followed by about three-quarters (by volume, not area) of the cylinder head. That night, my chances of becoming an international compact-car racing celebrity came to an abrupt end. I did get the phone numbers of some import models at the after-show, but all of them hung up on me when I asked them if they knew anyone selling any fresh 2.2 litre blocks.

Ive been wanting to watch some of michaels matches as ive recently got into wrestling and was wondering if you had any recs for matches or fueds that would be nice to see

ooo hmm... well, feuds or matches? because I'll be honest, shawn's had very few /bad/ matches. obviously, his ones with taker at mania in 2009 and 2010 are considered the gold standard, his iron man match with bret from mania 12 in 1996, his hell in a cell match with taker in 1997, his ladder matches with razor at mania 10 and summerslam in 1995. those are the only ones off the top of my head, obviously he's had more. I've heard his match with Jericho at mania in the early 2000s and the triple threat with triple h and benoit was also exceptional. but ultimately, I don't think he ever had a shitty match before he retired. even the rockers matches were really good. as for feuds, I personally can't speak to Most of the 2000s, but his feud with trips and with jericho in the early 2000s and his fued with taker in the late 2000s are supposed to be decent, and his feuds with bret and with razor/diesel from the 90s are also pretty good. hope this helps!
