#Disaster recoupling

Idk if I just never noticed or if I never unlocked these scenes. But there are so many moments where Lucas hints at liking hope. It was pretty clear since his arrival, with their date or him saying he likes hope but this replay I found so many other scenes. I have always shipped them, personally, do I am very happy about finding these scenes.

Like this scene, when you tell Gary and Lucas/Henrik about Priya's plans.

Ozzy: My Analysis.

This was a long time coming, because from the very first time I played his route (which also happened to be the first I completed the season to the end with), I knew Ozzy was a fundamentally interesting character that I'd want to dedicate a whole essay for, because it's one way I like to show my affection for these characters 🥺

(Problem was, I felt like I wouldn't of been able to do him justice before, but after my final research run, I don't think that's a road block for me anymore.)

One thing about his route is, no matter how you approach it, there'll always be a level of pain to it. I think the only exception to this is if you tell him, in paraphrase, "I'm interested too, but I'm not ready to commit yet," when he confesses to MC after the Doghouse Challenge, because that option allows MC the best of both worlds.. those two worlds I've experienced first-hand, I'll detail below.

If you tell him "I feel the same way," that day, it'll be held in the back of his mind that, at-least some point in time, he was your #1 choice (even if you end up choosing someone else in the end)

The pain waiting for MC on this path is, of course, how directly affected she is by everything that happened after her shock fake-dumping. (I even liveblogged my reaction to a lot of it, when I consciously paid attention to everything happening outside of Ozzy and MC's bond, within my #my exp tag, early March.)

Him patching things up with Grace, which she revealed to MC during Casa Amor

What he did during Casa, in reaction to seeing MC again in the postcards, (which didn't paint her in a positive light), which was a skinny-dip threeway kiss (which he IMMEDIATELY regretted)

Not breaking things off with Grace as soon as he should've after Casa (in my opinion), which I think should've been that first morning when all the OGs woke up together in the villa again, at the latest

And, on the topic of the Casa drama.. one moment I really like is, even if MC chooses to "play dumb," when piecing together what likely happened.. Ozzy couldn't keep her in the dark for too long even when he first considered it, which to me is so cute 🥺💗

@operationnope brought up some very good points when I asked her opinion on the situation. Being reminded of a very core part of Ozzy's character amidst the hurt was just what I needed 🥴 even if he fumbles along the way, he still wants to do right by all of the involved parties, and that includes Grace.

And, that leads me to what my final research run was all about.. seeing what his route is like when you friendzone him instead, before Casa. And, holy hell. I thought it would've been easy enough, but that came with its own unique set of challenges.

@ariendiel I remember at one point just thinking, "this is probably the closest to the Noah route experience I'll ever feel," and I know y'all Noah stans had it even tougher because there was no way to even couple up with Noah at all, outside of the disaster recoupling 😭 y'all don't get enough credit for REAL 🥺💙

It was a very isolating path, where even Ozzy flips back and forth between acknowledging MC's interest in him after all, with her actions, to "I'm friendzoned" mode. Everyone else, including Grace, just brushes off everything MC does, with the clear exception of the final recoupling.

And that all applies even after I told Grace that it could become a thing still, him and MC together 💀

On the one hand, yes I can sympathize with Ozzy's position in this scenario. But also it's like, Ozzy.. read the room! 😭🥺

Or, alternatively...

...from what I can tell from this difference of his dialog after the final recoupling.. he was reading the room, and was just trying to play it very cool with MC.

So, what is the overarching theme with Ozzy no matter how you approach his route? *checks the melted inked note on my arm* ..something about not knowing how to handle being in love for the first time, with the very real possibility of (total) rejection.

And, this song sums up his route to a T 🥺 and y'know what, maybe I did feel myself fall for him all over again as I was listening to it, on this last run 😭

and as a part two, I also really like the breaking up couples twist but it needed to have been later and they should've just copied UK S10

And like bc we were all waiting for a recoupling it doesn't hit that hard, but that twist deserves to have as much drama and weight as the disaster recoupling in S2 or MC getting dumped in S6.

But like if we just switch the recoupling scene in Vol 5 and the breaking up twist in Vol 3 I think that works (even though again I'd prefer it later). But like say MC is in a couple with one of the OG guys, the girl that's displaced is single but not dumped, and Jesse and Sofia are still together. Tristan comes in and rattles Jesse and Sofia's couple. Then the text comes in, and Tristan and single girl are both asked to choose which couple they think is least compatible. Tristan picks Sofia and Jesse and single girl picks MC and OG boy. (if we really wanna pin this on Sofia like the game loves to do, we can just say single girl heard some bad things about their relationship from gossip from Sofia and that's why but also a part of her maybe is a little salty she got booted from her couple if it's Franki or Nyah... If it's Lisbeth maybe she just wants you to herself idk). Then both couples are forced to break up AND are not allowed to recouple during the next recoupling.

Then MC should get the choice to couple with Jesse at the next recoupling (or she can flirt with the other boys that's fine too). If Jesse is not over Sofia at this point though then he's gonna say it's a friendship couple but y'all certainly aren't acting like it. Like it's like getting to couple with Noah after Operation Nope.

And in my head where Tristan is also a slow burn route, I could see MC also having the option to couple with Tristan but it most definitely is a friendship couple. If we need to keep the spicy scenes (which personally I think fusebox is using as a cheap cop out of a scene to replace the romance but that's a different discussion), then friends with benefits. Or it truly is a friend situation while you wait for your OG LI (for people that prefer a loyal route).

And this way it's more interesting and dramatic for the player. and this should work like S1 Jake route where depending on your choice here it might close a slow burn route bc those characters don't think they've gotten to know MC well enough and form that connection to end the season with.

Hi! So I recently replayed both Lucas and Henrik routes in a really long time and there's something that makes me think.

We all know it goes Henrik wanted to pick Priya at the Disaster Recouping and Lucas was Hope. But, Henrik also likes Lottie, somehow he doesn't even glance at her? And you have Lucas suddenly worried about Priya who barely showed interest in. What happened there?

Now the guy who returns saying they would have chosen MC if they had the chance is a whole other thing. But the part that gets to me is the fact they'd make Lucas emphasize more than once that it's MC he was after. Yet, for some reason seemed to put more effort into how "disappointed" he was and how he doesn't like MC much, to the point he comes off as fake and Henrik comes off as more genuine. Does that make sense?

Like what is "You read things wrong" supposed to mean and why are you talking about a "spark" when you were dissing me five seconds ago?

I do think it had more to do with FB's cluelessness and laziness that seemed like an extra effort to emphasize no one is supposed to be happy they don't get who they want, but then go and insert "I knew you were the one I wanted" into his dialogue.

Like not to be biased, but you're making the man say it more than once and if that was his supposed "initial choice" then I don't see why the "no one is happy" was forced onto him as well, especially if you've been nothing but nice. He just ends up looking like he has a split personality.

So I just replayed s2 and I made Lucas get dumped before Casa Amor. I told him on the night it was announced that he was up for dumping along with Rahim and Rocco that I would’ve wanted him to stay. Then when he got dumped a day later I stayed with him (I took the gem choice) and made it clear that I would’ve coupled up with him if I’d had the chance. But I didn’t kiss him or did anything else that would be considered cheating.

I came back single from Casa Amor while Henrik had obvs switched to Blake, then saved Elijah for Chelsea and Henrik and Blake got dumped.

I’m currently coupled up with Bobby so when Lucas re-enters the villa on day 24 I’m acting really happy to see him again. He kissed me on the cheek and made it very clear that he would’ve chosen me to couple up with if he had stayed in the villa. Then he asked me how it’s going with Bobby and I answered that I was still waiting to be swept off my feet. When the date ended, I pecked him on the cheek and he did too and then we went back.

I did take the roof terrace gem choice later on but - again - didn’t cheat on him and later at night during the party I met him up there as well. He told me he really wanted me but didn’t want to put me on the spot and because I STILL didn’t want to cheat I told him I just wanted to chill, so that’s what we did.

Honestly, I really don’t know where he says stuff like “You read things wrong” or tells MC that he’s disappointed/that he doesn’t like her that much. Maybe you can clarify that? Because it never happened on my route.

Now, here are my thoughts/opinions on everything else. I said it in another post but I’ll repeat it here:

We were always supposed to participate in Operation Nope and kiss Noah so that he’d couple up with us during the disaster recoupling

IF it’s Lucas who’s still in the villa while Henrik’s gone, it really makes a lot of sense for Lucas to pick Priya because Hope is coupled up with Jakub and MC is coupled up with Noah by then. Marisol never interested him and don’t even start with Lottie

BUT I honestly think Lucas’s route wasn’t supposed to go like this in the first place. He was supposed to be “the one that got away” and that’s why they make him emphasise multiple times how he’s come back for MC and for MC alone and that he remembers what she told him the night he was voted to get dumped and whatnot

People are always complaining how it doesn’t make sense for Lucas to be so “pushy” about being intimate with MC when they’re forgetting that 1) he’s not pushy because he accepts your “no” without being pissy or sarcastic about it and without trying to persuade you to do something you don’t want to do and 2) he’s watched the woman of his desire crack on with the boys in the villa for two weeks while he was stuck at home having to WATCH her without being able to do anything more. He’s ACHING to kiss her and act out all his fantasies. And that’s so fucking hot, please.

Remember how he tells Gary on day 5 that he “doesn’t bed everything that walks”? And that still stands true. EVEN at this point. That’s exactly why he later on breaks up with MC, too, if she decides to cheat with him. Because MC knew that and she still let him get his way EVEN THOUGH she was coupled up with someone else at that point. Cheating is such a huge red flag in his eyes. And yes, maybe he’s testing MC here who knows? Maybe it’s bad writing or maybe it’s a mix of all three, i don’t know

Now with Henrik, it’s different. Because Lucas - unlike Henrik - will almost always say that MC is his type while you have to put in effort to get Henrik to say your name. You basically have to reject Lucas all the time. That tells me that Henrik wasn’t supposed to re-enter the villa on day 24. Henrik’s route was meant to be more of a slow burn I reckon. But maybe that’s just my opinion.

Also, why is he picking Priya without so much as a glance at Lottie? Well, that’s crystal clear. HE is actually the one to ask Lottie “trouble in paradise?” the day the dumping on day 7 happens. Lucas, Henrik, MC and Lottie are chilling on the lawn when Gary joins them and Lottie asks him to get her and MC the cuppas he had promised, then proceeds to say “I can’t put my finger on him”. Henrik is highly empathetic and he knows there’s unfinished business between her and Gary; and not just from watching the show (he saw their kiss the night Hannah was dumped, don’t forget that!) He probably also realised that Lottie wasn’t an option BECAUSE she was so hung up on Gary. So why would he force someone into a couple who doesn’t want to be there? Henrik is the opposite of selfish so that would be highly ooc for him. That’s why he then chooses Priya if we’re already in a couple with Noah.

I love how Lucas is the one who expresses interest in MC like 99% of the time and you practically have to mean to get him to back off.

But at the Disaster Recoupling he's the one who gives MC that shitty ass speech, while Henrik is a complete sweetheart.

Like, bitch I thought you liked me WTF?

Anyway, I've attempted his route multiple times, but after that left a sour taste in my mouth. I could never tell if his speech was forced to fit the narrative that everyone is "disappointed". But now it's hard to believe he actually likes MC and I won't be anyone's second or third choice.

How's Henrik? He's not physically my type which is why I've ignored him, but he seems nice. Is he a nice route?

I forgive both Lucas and Noah a lot around that time (and any Islander tbh) as the disaster recoupling and CA was stressful and anxiety inducing for all, but also I get what you mean 😭 MC really suffered at times, and so deserved finally getting her happily ever after at the end.

I think there's definitely some writing around those episodes that doesn't make sense in context but is that way simply to fit the narrative as you say. Also, Lucas seems to have some commitment and trust issues, and he definitely doesn't like being caught by surprise – mix that together and you get a man who puts his foot in his mouth at times. I still love him though (second favourite after Noah).

Now, onto Henrik: He's lovely! He's funny, sweet, and all over has the best golden retriever energy. I joke about not liking him since he's Swedish (I'm Norwegian), but he's honestly a great LI. The switching to Blake during CA makes absolutely no sense in his case though, but there are some amazing fanfics for him too to help get over that. He's not my type as I tend to prefer the more ✨mysterious✨ types, but definitely give him a chance and let me know how it goes!

Soooo as much as I love that theory I can’t actually see it being true that he’s the ex 😭 There’s just too many things that would make me call bs on fb if they went down this path. First if he’s the ex wouldn’t the twins immediately call out Ozzy looks just like Zeph? Second, let’s pretend both twins are dummies lol who don’t notice that Ozzy has Zephs face, Ivy revealed in front of everyone that Zeph was MCs ex. Wouldn’t Ozzy be like Zeph?! Ok ok… if anyone has ever done the Noah route s2 Ozzys route is giving Noah 2.0. So it got me thinking fb LOVES a recycled storyline {insert someone steals MCs LI on first day here} what if…. They recycled the disaster recoupling 😬 fb has already told us we’re not getting Ozzy right away and this week he said he’s loyal to Grace and is going to see that through 😖 but he’s giving MC a lot of attention and just like Noah he’s already saying if there’s anyone that could turn his head it’s MC. My thinking is maybe there’s an operation nope with a disaster recoupling to follow and then the girlies all go to casa and who do we see there?? MARSHALL!!! And all of the girls are like holy shit he looks just like Ozzy! Maybe we find out they’re twins/ siblings maybe he’s just a vv good looking doppelgänger either way Marshall is going to graft HARD.. Ozzy is going to see this in whatever postcard/video they get sent from casa and obviously couple up with someone else {bc fb can’t just let us win} if Marshall is the twin/sibling like we all think, we might all be thinking why has Ozzy (so far) never mentioned him?? maybeeee his twin has always stolen the girls he likes and they don’t have the best relationship and he wanted to have this experience on his own. 😬😖

I might also be completely projecting because I want this to happen so bad 😭😬 as a Noah girly I love the slow burn and drama his route gave us but adding Marshall in would be *chefs kiss* i guess we’ll see in a few weeks

Jakub laughed out loud. The thunderous sound of his voice reverberated throughout the bedroom as he said, “Well, once I’ve had my go, obviously. I’ll see you boys outside.” He gives the others a sly grin as he walks out the door.

I think he’s got a screw loose. Gary paled, “Oh, my fuck.” 

“How about a group hug before we start.” Bobby holds out his arms. “Bring it in, lads.”

Laughing, the other boys all crowd around in a group hug. Ibrahim cooed, “This is nice.”

“Not going to lie, Babycakes.” Gary let out a breath, his shoulders relaxing. “This is actually making me feel better.”

He looked at Lucas. “We do seem to have similar tastes in women.” Noah grins and Lucas shrugs.

One of the funniest things to me is that Henrik was into both Lottie and Priya the first day he entered the Villa, but he didn't even consider Lottie during the Disaster Recoupling (or any other occasion).

Imagine this. You are on Love Island. You went on the show for the money, but you hope to find love along the way. You didn't click with any of the boys, rejecting them left, right, and center. You shared a bed with another Casa girl. You thought that you'd be going home for sure. You packed your stuff. Suddenly, one of the boys that you have rejected decides to bring you to the villa with him. You can only assume that it is, because he feels unhappy and insecure in his current relationship. Maybe he overheard you saying that if you have to pick a boy, you'd go for him. You see him talking with the Casa girl that you shared a bed with. You wonder if he knows that she wants a chance to be with you if you both stay on the show. You wonder if they made a deal beforehand.

Once you are in the villa, you agree to give his ex partner a chance to win him back, because you already told him that she'd be a better match for him when you talked to him in the casa. She may be a jerk to you, but she just lost the guy that she had feelings for and most of the friends that she has made on the show. She is hurt. You want nothing to do with the mess between them as it was never your intention to drive them apart. However, your partner seems to believe that you may have developed feelings for him. You don't want to lead him on, so you take the fellow Casa girl to the Hideaway, thinking that will put an end to whatever delusions your partner has about the relationship between you. You know that you are probably not going to find real love on the show. You are unsure about your feelings for the Casa girl that you hooked up with. You feel guilty that you gave the guy that you are coupled up with the wrong impression. His ex-partner is trying to turn everyone against you.

For someone else this recoupling would be a test to overcome or a temptation to avoid, but you feel relieved. You decide to explore this new connection. The Casa girl that has been your closest confidant in the casa can't hide her jealousy. She thought there was something between the two of you. The Casa boy that's newly single throws his hat in the ring as well. Your ex partner's ex has one final chance to win him back. The bombshells complicated everything, but this is your chance you have to find happiness. It's also a chance for your ex partner and his ex girl to find some closure, no longer haunted by all the what could have beens.  

I’m sorry. I saw OG boys fans saying that the bombshell drama is unnecessary. I thought I should share my point of view. It's not a popular opinion and I don't want to be eaten alive. I feel like some people tend to forget that not all players are interested in the OG boys. For some of us the real love island drama has only just begun and the bombshells are a vital part of it. S2 had an overwhelming amount of drama and the disaster recoupling was a fan favorite episode. There is no such thing as too much drama on an interactive reality show.

I'm begging the fandom to give the players who aren't privileged enough to feel included in the main storyline a moment to enjoy the game as well. We are a part of the fandom as well. I'm really sorry that the OG boy fans can't share every single moment with their love interest, but I'm begging them to understand that some of us have completely different gameplays. The bombshell drama may seem pointless in their personalized story, but that's just one possible route to play. I don't care about the OG couples' relationship drama that I've been dragged into against my will. I've rejected the OG boys. I'm happy that there are multiple storylines this season. We can choose how MC feels about most of the situations that she is forced in. There is no correct way to play the story.

I'm so happy you're able to enjoy the drama like we are, anon! I'm always up for drama and I'm really enjoying the season and I'm so sick and tired of all the complaints. people are sooooo annoying. if they aren't enjoying the game, just... don't play it? why you have to ruin everyone else's experience too.

The Gary route is absolutely not meant for the weak 💀 day 9 was the start of the frustrations with how they coded Gary, MC, and Lottie. Another example of this is when Chelsea reveals the infamous kiss at the ministry party.

They all would briefly mention MC’s involvement with Gary but focus on Hannah and Lottie like????

HELLO?!! My MC is hurting over here. No one gives a rats ass about Hannah 😒 I seriously don’t get how she even matters. If anything, it would have been such a good scene if allowed MC to vent

There’s so many other parts of the game like the disaster recoupling that make my blood boil lol

i love season 2, but the number of prompts in the gary route that are messed up always makes me go mad. especially the one where you tell lottie you won't promise to not couple with him and when you take him on a date, she makes a scene about you going back on your word (and you also think that). much as i love that season, you can totally tell which direction they're forcing you to go and the time they just didn't put into the rest of the routes. im really glad this has improved over the seasons bc the whole thing of you saying one thing and doing it, but having everyone call you a snake and traitor because they messed up the prompt was getting really old

I’ve saved both Henrik and Lucas from the day 8 dumping and had a totally different responses when they chose me at the disaster recoupling. Like Henrik was super happy to pick me (even though I had a low heart score with him) but Lucas was straight up upset about choosing me (even though my heart score was high.) Is this just like a character difference or did I do something lol?

ok, so... this part is a little confusing from time to time, and i thought it was the relationship score that determined everything but there might be a glitch.

on my last playthrough, with villa!lucas, he did say he was excited to pick me, but the nod to hope and priya being picked was still made. he didn't deliver the returning the favor" dialogue but an actual line that i remembered from weekly releases (i can't quote it word by word).

he basically said that the couple was going well and he was happy he had the chance to pick mc and stay coupled up (which stings even more when he brings blake back).

same with henrik, but i remember our relationship was at the maximum heart score, so this could be a lottie type of glitch (you know when she asks you if you're gonna pick gary and if you say 'no' she understands it as 'yes' so you have to uno reverse the answer?).

i'm about to write a full ass guide on glitches from season because there are so many... this is definitely one of them, because right after, on the daybeds, they're so stoked to pick us... i hate some of these glitches more than others.

This was the scene after coupling up during the disaster recoupling. During my Lucas route, I don't know why Lucas looks conflicted and what the heck was he about to say. I'm pondering on this for a long time now 😔

Honestly, I wish Fusebox had done Disaster Recoupling and/or Casa Amor in every season. Even though during my original run through Season 2 I was so pissed off and bored with that plot line (I just wanted to get back together with Bobby already, ok?), I now think that’s one of the greatest LITG assets to bring on the drama or just shake things up.

Mostly I wanted Disaster Recoupling in Season 1 on that bit where Lucy came into the Villa. If her whole purpose was to try and rekindle things with her ex, she should’ve just picked him at that recoupling straight away and been honest about it. It would’ve been great drama as she would break up one of the supposedly stronger couples and we would’ve been torn between trying to get Levi/Mason back or calling it quits and making it work with someone else - and also get rid of the game pushing us into a couple with them way earlier.

I would’ve dumped Levi/Mason (whichever one was left single) from the Island in the previous recoupling already. When Lucy comes in, she gets first pick and takes Levi/Mason from MC. Then to spice things up, I’d have returning Jasper/Miles also picking first and choosing Jen, not just because I want to have an excuse to couple up with Tim, but because I also think either Jasper or Miles would actually make sense in a couple with Jen. Then Erikah picks Reese and MC gets to pick between Tim, Jake and Rohan, with Talia and Cherry picking the remaining boys whichever way. The outcome is a true Disaster Recoupling as other than Erikah/Reese, all the couples could be switched up.

(Not sure how I’d incorporate the Talia route into this though…)

Maybe this will be for the best, like when Tom/Cora stole our LI, we and our current LI get stolen and then have to go to Casa Amor so we can totally switch to a new person and it’s not our main LI we’re switching from.
