I finally gave in and got the book tie in for Mirrorverse which is a Disney mobile game. I actually like the mobile game especially for the storyline and character designs.
I read the summary and immediately got fan fiction vibes but it's filled with popular characters from both Disney and Pixar. Even from the cover, Snow White looks wonderful with a warrior design and a wicked ax. She also keeps her iconic color scheme with her wearing blue, yellow, and red.
Now, this is written by Delilia S. Dawson. I haven't read any of her work but she is known for writing various Star Wars books along with other Young Adult books.
As you can probably tell I can't wait to read it and will tell you all about it when I'm finished.

Long Live the Pumpkin Queen by Shea Ernshaw
"At one time, I had thought myself brave--a girl who could surely slay monsters if given the chance, because I am a monster myself. Created by a madman. Living among ghouls and ghosts and grim reapers."
Year Read: 2022
Rating: 2/5
About: Sally is the newly crowned Pumpkin Queen of Halloween Town, but she's finding it an uncomfortable fit. As happy as she is to be married to Jack Skellington, she's not prepared to be the regal queen the town expects. When her exploring takes her to a new door outside the circle of holiday trees, she accidentally releases a monster that threatens not only her own world, but all the holiday towns and the human world as well. I received a free e-ARC through NetGalley from the publishers at Disney Press. Trigger warnings: kidnapping/captivity.
Thoughts: There are so many things wrong with this, it's difficult to know where to start. I'm a longtime lover of The Nightmare Before Christmas, as I suspect are most of the people who would pick up a book like this, so let me just get this out: prepare yourself for disappointment. Of all the things I hate about this book, I hate most what's been done to Sally's character. Our quiet but brave ragdoll, who almost single-handedly saves the day in the film, is reduced to a weeping doormat in this novel. All the angst. Truly, I'm not sure a chapter goes by where she isn't crying and feeling sorry for herself, and that's not the Sally that I love--the Sally who stands up to Dr. Finkelstein and Oogie Boogie when everyone else is too afraid to go near him. By comparison, the new villain isn’t frightening or compelling at all.
I'm not over that character assassination, but let's move on. If there was something I did like, it was a chance to see a bit more of this world and the other towns. However, there's an inherent issue with this novel: it's marketed as a YA book, but it's based on a children's story and film. It's awkward as all get out to try to transition from that, and most of the world-building is as juvenile as one might expect. While that's charming and quirky in media that's made for children, one has to assume it's adult and YA readers reading this novel, and it comes over grating and simplistic. What might work quite well for a sequel film doesn’t work at all here. It's also wildly overwritten, and I'm not a fan of Ernshaw's sloppy, overabundant descriptions. Disappointing across the board.

So originally we never knew the name of Prince Eric’s Kingdom in Disney’s The Little Mermaid. But within the last few years thanks to Disney Press publishing The Little Mermaid tie in books we have two name options for his kingdom. “Part of Your World: A Twisted Tale” names the kingdom Tirulia and now in “Prince of Song and Sea” the kingdom was named Vellona

Why am I waiting on this title? I didn’t love The Winterwood which is the only book of Ernshaw’s I’ve read so far. In fact it may even be a stretch to say I liked it at all. While Ernshaw’s writing was beautiful the plot and characters were some of the flattest and worst developed I had seen in a long time. It was more a beautiful description of a setting than it was a story. There was…

ONE PRINCESS. Merida of DunBroch needs a change. She loves her family—jovial King Fergus, proper Queen Elinor, the mischievous triplets— and her peaceful kingdom. But she’s frustrated by its sluggishness; each day, the same. Merida longs for adventure, purpose, challenge – maybe even, someday, love. TWO GODS. But the fiery Princess never expects her disquiet to manifest by way of Feradach, an uncanny supernatural being tasked with rooting out rot and stagnation, who appears in DunBroch on Christmas Eve with the intent to demolish the realm – and everyone within. Only the intervention of the Cailleach, an ancient entity of creation, gives Merida a shred of hope: convince her family to change within the year – or suffer the eternal consequences. THREE VOYAGES. Under the watchful eyes of the gods, Merida leads a series of epic journeys to kingdoms near and far in an attempt to inspire revolution within her family. But in her efforts to save those she loves from ruin, has Merida lost sight of the Clan member grown most stagnant of all – herself?

🌟I'm incredibly proud to announce that the Art of Amphibia will be available for purchase on November 17th this year, wherever books are sold🌟
This beautiful hardbound book will contain 224 pages full of carefully curated artwork from all three seasons. We're talking never before seen conceptual sketches, storyboards, paintings, written testimonials from the crew and much, much more. I'm so grateful to TOKYO POP for continuing to partner with us to get these Amphibia books made. This one in particular is a dream come true - artwork for animated TV shows like ours is too often left forever archived, never to be enjoyed or treasured.
Please look forward to the book. The team working on it is the same as Marcy's Journal so you KNOW it's gonna be good. --- Matt Braly

Ok so I’m gonna rant my thoughts about the show to no one but here it goes
kinda frustrated because I.love.the kid’s performance! They’re killing it! And the show has been mostly entertaining, I don’t want a word-for-word adaptation of the books… however, it feels like they’ve gotten rid of the essence of many of the plot points and character arcs
- the trio constantly trying to sacrifice themselves for the others makes it lose its meaning if it happens every ep
- Sally being so irritated doesn’t feel like her! She doesn’t have to be this perfect mother, but I think they could’ve explored how SHE must let herself be angry and frustrated and etc, not her being that way right off the bat
- Athena currently being the worst Olympian parent annoys me…. Like yes she’s cold but…. The worst???? Really? Also Frederick Chase being a good father to Annabeth but her stepmother being the only bad parent in the house? I don’t think so. I hope they don’t try to redeem that man like that
- and the most important of all: THEM KNOWING EVERYTHING ABOUT EVERY MONSTER. And that happening every time???? It takes aaaaall of the mystery and anticipation!! The point of them not knowing everything was that at the end of the day they are just KIDS! Of course they can get easily distracted and confused and tricked :(
-in relation to that: i miss more silliness!!! I appreciated the deepness of the tv tunnel of love scene but I loveee the silliness of that part in the book! Walker and Leah would’ve KILLED that scene!!! Also crusty???? Rip to that iconic Percy moment (which btw lets us know more about how 'manipulative' he can be and how he's beginning to learn about the ways of the mythological world)
-bonus: tv show hades was kinda cool but idk I feel like they just copied hades from the animated Hercules movie?
Idk, so far the show has felt rushed when it should be slow-paced and viceversa :(
