#Dr. Pine puppet

Alright, random ass AU crossover idea, courtesy of @tinfoil-jones. XD DD Stan and Stevie accidentally get kidnapped by the cast and crew of Poppy Avenue/Science Time with Dr. Pine.

This is his first non-malicious kidnapping ever. He ends up in the Dr. Pineverse after his portal tech shorts out, and he ends up in front of the Poppy Avenue studio. Somehow, they end up unconscious, just..LAYING IN FRONT OF THE BUILDING. One of the puppeteers comes out, sees "Pan" laying on the ground and start panicking. But also...isn't he supposed to be on vacation for another week? And why's he wearing a red leather jacket with a big "Dinosaur Fight Club" patch on the back?. And...green cargo pants and fingerless gloves? And these kinda funky looking tan and green boots? They've NEVER seen him wear anything like that before.

Well, best get him inside. So they get some help and drag Stan and Stevie inside. They put Stan in "his" dressing room on a couch and deliberate whether they should call 911. Meanwhile, Stevie is put in the puppet storage area.

Stan wakes up sorrounded by people he doesn't know in an unfamiliar room, and his immediate reaction is:

But angrier. XD He's about to go into fight mode upon realizing Stevie isn't with him, when one of the puppeteers goes "Oh, Pan, you're awake! Thank god! Are you okay?"

"...Who the fuck is Pan?"

The puppeteers look at each other "Uh..you are, buddy."

"What the fuck are you talking about-" That's when he notices the Science Time with Dr. Pine posters plastered about the room, and pictures of "himself" with various puppets and crew members.

'Wait...waitwaitwaitwait, holy SHIT! Is this Poppy Avenue?!" He bolts up excitedly. This has been one of his favorite goddamned tv shows for years!

The puppeteers all stare at him "....Yeah, dude. Pan are you okay? Are you sure you don't have a concussion? Maybe we should get you looked at." They start grabbing for him and he waves them off.

"No, I'm fine. I'm not Pan though. I'm Stan Pines. You're gonna think I'm nuts, but I'm from dimension H512'12. I been multiverse hopping for the last 10 or so years. I'm a huge fan of the show though! My friend and I watch every episode! You guys are great!"

The puppeteers become more and more nervous as he tells them about being a Bounty Hunter in the multiverse and how he loves that Dr. Pine is a parody of his "asshole brother." The crew has decided that he DEFINITELY has a concussion at this point.

"Hey, Pan, why don't we get you to a hos-"

Stan remembers about Stevie "Hey, have any of you seen my kid?"

"Kid? What kid?"

"Dinosaur, about yea big-" parts his hands to show them a parrot sized gap "Blue and green iridescent feathers..."

One of the puppeteers thinks for a second "Oh, the animatronic? We put it in the puppet room. That thing was really cool, by the way! Most life-like thing I've ever seen! Did you sneak into Spielberg's house or something?" The guy jokes, insinuating that Stevie's a prop from Jurassic Park. XD

Meanwhile, Stevie's been having an hours long, one-sided conversation with Tina the T-Rex in the puppet room and has taken Tina's silence as a sign that she's a really good listener and is RIVETED by Stevie's tales of dropping people off buildings, eating 3 dozen boxes of donuts in one go and having the "sky zoomies" and the one time she tore a guy into pieces for trying to kill her dad, and saved bits of him to snack on for later.

By the time Stan comes to get her, she's telling him all about her new best friend, Tina and how they're going to hang out next week.

"Hon...that's a puppet." Stan tells her as she sits on his shoulder. She excitedly chitters back in denial. The puppeteers watch on in bemusement as their friend who CLEARLY needs medical attention, is now talking to an animatronic dinosaur. Then they look on jn shock as he shoots a gun and steps through a floating circle of green, swirling...SOMETHING and disappears.

@aroace-get-out-of-my-face I'm sorry, this was just the funniest goddamn thing to me. XD. I had to do it. Also, I tried to do some fact checking on the AU, but like I can't search anything Dr. Pine related on your search box? It may be as broken as your inbox. XD

I've never really been into AUs for anything before, but Science Time with Dr Pine HAS MY HEART, I just NEEDED to draw some of these.

Poppy Avn Characters pt.1

Ok I have everything for the first three characters down so here we go :).

Please note that these guys were made for my fanfiction of the au "Science Time with Dr. Pine" Which has mostly been expanded on by @aroace-get-out-of-my-face. This is in no way meant to impose on them or disregard their ideas for the au, I'm just doing my best with what we have so far.

I did my best to copy the GF style. But in actual artwork I make, I'll probably go closer to my usual style.

The other three will hopefully be done tomorrow.

Name, Age, Place of Birth-

Eliane Lopes (Eli): 16, Brazil-

Mainly works as a puppeteer until they start doing more human acting, then she works as an older sister figure for the puppets that are children. For the adult puppets (i.e. Dr. Pine), she works as an assistant to connect watchers to the topic. Her mom comes on set sometimes early on to see what exactly her daughter does for work (and starts to bring lunch too when they worm their way into her heart), then eventually joins and plays a role in teaching how to begin learning new languages. She will eventually act as a primary parental figure. 

As Eli gets older, and comes into her own, she will take on a more active role as she gets more experience from the others (Stan also teaches her how to pick-pocket and lock-pick because of course he did). Kind of becomes a proto-Wendy/Soos, where she gets taken under Stans’ wing and they develop a familial relationship, her mom also kinda takes in Stan in the same way and also teaches him to cook.

After everything with Ford happens Eli is saltier for a bit since she and Stan had bonded, but she gets over it fairly fast and is happy Stan could reconnect with his family. She and her mom gossip about him though.

Her main puppet is a younger one named ‘Rosie’ which, at first (season 1), is a small hand puppet with finger-controlled hands. Her main body is made of soft orange felt cloth, she wears a repurposed green dress for dolls and has a head of red ‘hair’ made of string. She also had a round red nose and big ol’ googly eyes. The new Rosie puppet (season 2 and onward) is heavier and fuller, she is still felt, but her eyes are also now the classic felt kind too. Her body is plumped up with more padding, and she now has sticks to move her arms rather than fingers. She has a proper custom dress, along with a few other outfits for different activities. Her hair is also now proper faux hair, pressed into wild curls with a mix of string throughout the scalp (like her puppeteer).

Rosie is sweet and meant to connect to the younger audience, being the primary focus of the camera. She talks very kindly, and often is the character to reiterate the ‘lesson of the day’ at the end of segments. Otherwise, the other puppets will do their thing during their segments. Her and Dr. Pine are often paired together since they have good chemistry, they have a sweet student and teacher relationship.

David Mercury: 17, NYC-

He is also a puppeteer to begin with, but when live actors start happening, he is often an extra since he’s a little camera shy as a human actor. Usually he will help with sets, moving things around, setting up lights or helping with adding details to set pieces. He doesn’t really talk about his home life. He is a big fan of rock bands like QUEEN, AC/DC and KISS.

He has an interest in the cameras early on and will often stay after hours to ask how everything works to actually make a segment look good. Otherwise, he can be found around town late into the evening. After he becomes an adult, he also starts to learn how to operate the cameras and eventually goes to college for film while working on PA on the side. He eventually becomes PA’s main cameraman. He and Eli become good friends.

When the Ford stuff is figured out, he  works with Ford to make a mini documentary about Gravity Falls; it doesn’t get released until years later after Fords’ research is published since it was primarily a passion project. He composes all of the shots and makes all of the music for it too. He did outsource to a college friend for editing though.

His primary puppet is a skinny little tube of a guy named ‘Casey’, closer to a teen in terms of a puppet kid. At the start (season 1) He is made with bright blue textured cloth, with a long pale felt nose, googly eyes and staggered segments of cut black felt cloth ‘hair’, similarly his clothes are bits of felt cut into a sort-of T-shirt. The newer Casey puppet (season 2 and onward) gets the stuffed felt treatment too. He's still a skinny thing, he just has more shape and definition, along with custom clothes as well and short fake hair.

He acts as a way of establishing the ‘situation’ for the day that the lesson is centered around. Otherwise, he mainly acts as a third man to bounce interactions off of to make things feel more natural. He has a sort of plain nasally voice and has a bit of a sarcastic streak. He is often the focus of episodes about friends or social interactions. He is usually in the main Rosie segments where they act as a duo.

John Richards: 24, New Mexico-

Started as the muscle and helped with the set building, since he is such a big guy, being an ex-football player. But when Tina the Tiny T-Rex gets introduced (season 2), he plays her since her costume is so heavy. Her lines are dubbed over in post by a later hire. He looks like a massive terrifying bear, but he is actually very sweet. He and Stan are buds and both work on PA until they both retire. Even then, they stay in contact despite living in different states.

He is the guy who tackles Ford when he attacks Dr. Pine, and thusly, he isn’t very fond of Ford until after he and Stan work out their stuff. Then it’s constant teasing by making Ford join in lesson segments about family when he is featured in the show. There are so many videos of Tina doing football stuff that it causes women's football to go on the rise for a while. He takes pride in this fact as he is the oldest of 3 and his two sisters look up to him a lot.

Tina is a T-Rex done sort of in the style of Barney the Dinosaur. She has a big head with long stocky legs and small arms that are mostly controlled by the hands around the ‘biceps’ of the costume. Coincidentally, she is also mostly scientifically accurate due to the plumage of ‘feathers’ (read: fake party feathers and string) on her back, joints and tail, which were used to hide the actor better. She is a light blue on her felt ‘scaled’ parts and has dark blue spots on her body and her ‘feathers’.

She is excitable and sporty, encouraging play and healthy activity, always trying to inspire the others to try out some form of sport or physical movement. Otherwise, she will often be the one to ask questions about the ‘lesson of the day’ and address anything that the audience might get confused on.

Anyway, I imagine it would go similarly to that one episode of Angel where he gets turned into a puppet and he and Spike fight in an elevator.

EXCEPT Stan would just be SO. FUCKING. EXCITED. And he would never let a puppet beat him up, despite what @tinfoil-jones might say. XD WHY does Dr. Pine want DD Stan specifically? Maybe his asshole brother's feud with the Hand Witch got out of hand, he cast a culty spell, and it traversed the multiverse and made a sentient puppet who now has a (scientific!) Lust for Stan blood. Who'm I to say? I'm just the narrator.

Stan would be laughing the ENTIRE time Dr. Pine was trying to take him. This thing isn't even Angel strong, it's just..puppet strong. So Dr. Pine is trying to move Stan, and all he can do is like...pull on his pant leg. It's like being kidnapped by a toddler.

So the fact that he ends up VERY loosely tied up backstage is because he LET himself get taken because he's such a huge Dr. Pine fan. And the whole time, he's going "This is the coolest thing to ever happen to me!"

Meanwhile, Dr. Pine is spouting nefarious scientific facts at him, like how bodies decompose, what specific chemicals do to specific parts of the body. How much candy puts people in diabetic comas, etc.

And Stan's just like "I know you're trying to be scary, but .... PUPPET! It's like being threatened by Kermit! 🤣🤣"

With people begging to see Pacifica, I thought I’d throw you all a little something.

I’ve also realized that none of you are my writing partner in this. So I need to share with you all my fun little headcanons and the things I’ve rewritten when it comes to this au.

So to start off, Pacifica is a widow. Her husband died when their son was at a young age and so she’s been raising him alone. However her husband’s death also lead to her freedom! Pacifica has a gross amount of money in her bank account so she ended up being the “maddest member of the Northwest clan” through funding all sorts of things in Gravity falls. While still being able to retain her wealth!!

One of the most notable projects she’s funded was for a local scientist, Mabel Pines. Something about studying the local wildlife? Pacifica couldn’t bother herself to remember. Just that she wrote a fat paycheck so Mabel could build some underground bunker to conduct research with her lab assistant.

Pacifica used to be in close contact with Dr. Pines and C, but one day the two just suddenly stopped responding to her. Pacifica doesn’t know the reason and refrained herself from visiting after being ghosted like that. She had a six year old son to worry about.. and a package that arrived on her doorstep.

I’ll go more into the organ freezer that is Bill later, but that’s exactly what she found on her doorstep. A puppet of a boy whose body wasn’t alive, but his mind was filled with fantasy. She recognized the labeling on his body to be a work of Pines and C, so obviously they had entrusted her with this machinery.

Trivia time!!

The northwest manner curse is still placed on the house. Mainly because Pacifica doenst let anyone go in or out of the mansion.

She has a pet chicken.

Definitely more herself in this AU. Still knows how to be prissy and perfect, but a lot more extroverted and nicer to the townsfolk.

Still believes her family founded the town.

She’s an old ass lady but no one can get her exact age out of her. She changes the answer each time.

Sort of wants to visit Mabel’s home, but apparently he’s transitioned and changed his name to Mae? Obviously he wants to start over and that doesn’t include her. Just a bad investment.

Classist without realizing it.

Enjoys video games but only plays stuff from the 80s-90s. She can’t understand the newer consoles.

Ford would probably drop whatever he's doing to join Tate everytime he would be watching Poppy Avenue (Fiddleford has to make Ford leave before the segment Science Time with Dr Pine comes on though).

also I loved the logo for Poppy Avenue that @thedarkermelody created so much and I just had to draw it somewhere!

Now imagine Fiddleford: oh yay! A kids show about science that my son watches to get closer to me! Oh haha, he sure knows a whole lot about the human body! And it's weaknesses! And how...to quickly kill someone...haha.

Ford buying merchandise and going after the Dr Pine does not help. Fiddleford walks into a room and maybe Ford is just...full green outfit and green face "I must become the enemy to know my enemy...Fiddleford...join me-"
