What type of fabric can I use for the Anabelle dress pattern? 🎀
It is a basic and cute dress with flounce, so fabrics that give that movement to the skirt will be great.
🍁 Linen plain weave
🍁 Crepe
🍁 Voile
🍁 Cotton vichy
🍁 Thin denim
When you're looking for a summer feel, these fabrics are fantastic. Looking for a linen or cotton composition will give you much more freshness.

I do love crocheting baby dresses 😌
One because they are so cute and two because they don’t take that long 🩵🩷
These were snapped up quick, the pink and the lilac ones were part of a baby set that I made with matching bonnets and booties

Step-by-Step Guide to Creating a Basic Dress Pattern
Tumblr media
Creating a basic dress pattern is an essential skill for any aspiring fashion designer. This guide will walk you through the process, from taking measurements to drafting the pattern and making necessary adjustments. Whether you're a beginner or looking to refine your skills, these steps will help you create a well-fitted, custom dress pattern.
Materials Needed
Measuring tape
Pattern paper or large sheets of paper
Pencil and eraser
Ruler and straight edge
French curve or curved ruler
Scissors
Pins
Fabric for making a toile (muslin or similar inexpensive fabric)
Sewing machine and basic sewing supplies
Take Accurate Measurements
To create a well-fitted dress pattern, accurate measurements are crucial. Here are the key measurements you’ll need:
Bust: Measure around the fullest part of your bust.
Waist: Measure around the narrowest part of your waist.
Hips: Measure around the fullest part of your hips.
Shoulder to Waist: Measure from the top of your shoulder down to your waist.
Waist to Hem: Measure from your waist down to the desired length of the dress.
Shoulder Width: Measure from the edge of one shoulder to the other.
Draft the Bodice
Draw a Vertical Line: On your pattern paper, draw a vertical line to represent the center front of the bodice. This line should be as long as your shoulder to waist measurement plus a few inches for seam allowance.
Mark Key Points: From the top of the vertical line, mark points for the bust, waist, and hip measurements. Use your shoulder to waist measurement for the waist point and add the waist to hip measurement to mark the hip point.
Draw Horizontal Lines: At each marked point, draw horizontal lines across the pattern paper. These lines will serve as guides for the bust, waist, and hips.
Add Widths: On the bust line, measure out half of your bust measurement plus ease (usually 1-2 inches) on both sides of the center front line. Do the same for the waist and hip lines using the corresponding measurements plus ease.
Connect the Dots: Use a ruler to connect the points on the bust, waist, and hip lines, creating the side seams of the bodice.
Shape the Armholes and Neckline: Use a French curve or curved ruler to draw the armholes and neckline. For the neckline, mark the desired depth and width, then connect these points with a smooth curve.
Draft the Skirt
Draw a Vertical Line: On a new sheet of pattern paper, draw a vertical line for the center front of the skirt. This line should be as long as your waist to hem measurement plus seam allowance.
Mark Key Points: Mark the waist and hip points on the vertical line using your waist to hip measurement.
Draw Horizontal Lines: At the waist and hip points, draw horizontal lines across the pattern paper.
Add Widths: On the waistline, measure out half of your waist measurement plus ease on both sides of the center front line. On the hip line, measure out half of your hip measurement plus ease on both sides of the center front line.
Connect the Dots: Use a ruler to connect the points on the waist and hip lines, then extend the lines straight down to the hemline.
Shape the Skirt: Depending on the style of the skirt, you can either leave the side seams straight for a pencil skirt or flare them out for an A-line skirt. Use a French curve to smooth out any sharp angles.
Add Seam Allowances
Add seam allowances to all edges of your pattern pieces. Typically, a 1/2 inch to 1 inch seam allowance is sufficient. Be sure to include allowances for hems and any other finishing techniques you plan to use.
Cut Out the Pattern Pieces
Carefully cut out your bodice and skirt pattern pieces. Label each piece with relevant information such as the name of the piece (e.g., front bodice, back bodice), the grainline, and the number of pieces to cut.
Create a Toile (Muslin)
To ensure your pattern fits correctly, make a toile (a test garment) using inexpensive fabric. Sew the toile together, try it on, and make any necessary adjustments to the pattern. Common adjustments may include taking in or letting out seams, reshaping armholes, or adjusting the length.
Finalize the Pattern
Once you're satisfied with the fit of your toile, transfer any adjustments to your paper pattern. Make sure all pattern pieces are accurately labeled and ready for use with your final fabric.

Ezio Auditore Tunic Part 1
If you guessed that I was going to make a tunic, close but not quite. Since it is hot in a convention hall, I decided not to make sleeves and lower the collar and make a slitted dress.
The first step is take a class on pattern making at Mood Fabrics and then modify a typical dress pattern.
