The new snapshot seems SO fun. But uhm. Uhm. There is an aspect I'm worried about.

During this Live we learned that ghasts:

Are biological creatures

that they have infant forms (that appear to have external gills like salamanders)

that they rely on water for their life cycle to complete

that, related to #3, they like chomping on snowballs

that they're neutral and even friendly when not dehydrated like a frog in summer

In addition to the points in the graphic:

Flat faces with the eyes at the front, like many amphibians

smooth skin

mouth that looks tiny until opened (have you seen an axolotl or caecilian with its mouth open?)

fireballs may be analogous to skin and saliva-based weapons in amphibians

has zero mercy

cannot aim at all

makes sounds quite like the axolotl when you think about it

operates on 1.5-2 brain cells at all times

... We may be able to conclude that ghasts are amphibians.

If we look at this phylogenetically, then we may be able to speculate that ghasts are highly derived (specialized) temnospondyls, which are huge prehistoric amphibians who were like 25% mouth.

Spotted - 6/22/2025

Started this not too long ago and managed to finish it in just under 4 hours. With the newest ghastling drop I thought it was appropriate to finish (plus I’m attempting to get a new job and my interview for an important application is coming up, so I’ve been completing projects to not stress over it.) Maybe one day I’ll complete the skeleton horse I’m working on. At this rate I’ll do all the nether mobs before I do all the nether mobs before I finish it.

That random information aside; Here’s the Ghast.

The poetry of the universe echoes endlessly around everything, etched into walls of chapels and doors of dungeons and light-seared into the backs of your eyes when you fall through the void. It's all in a language you can't understand and you aren't meant to learn, because if you did, you'd understand the terror of it. The wretched human soul that resides within your skin would cry out at the injustice of it.

The nether is not meant for you. Your blood boils and the sand you stand on cries out and grabs at your feet. It's just as lawless as the land above, but the evils of this world are as striking as a match. They do not shroud themselves in leaves and sea and earth, hiding from your human eyes. The nether is not meant for you.

But perhaps it wasn't meant for the creatures here, either. Perhaps the land turned them vile and bitter, instilled in them a taste for blood as red as the fire in which they were born.

You hold this creature in your hands now, one you found abandoned within the remains of its kind, and you can see the humanity in its withered white frame. The poetry that echoes around everything, that the universe is kind, and you are the universe itself. Within this creature is the part of yourself that aches to leave.

You can save a ghast and you can set it free.
