So, a teen movie that I don't see getting much attention but I think SHOULD is "Drive Me Crazy" (Yes, it was named after the Britney Spears song, haha), because it really takes the "Misfit Rebels vs. the Popular Kids" trope that was so popular in the late-90s to early-2000s and DECONSTRUCTS IT. It explores such questions as "Does being a rebel make me a superior person?" "Does having status as a Cool Kid make me a superior person?" "Why do we sort people into the categories we do?" "Do they really FIT NEATLY into those categories?" "Can I still like and respect someone who's different from me?" Anyway, it made me think and broadened my horizons as a teenager, and I think it's still pretty relevant to conversations going on today.
If you like movies like "10 Things I Hate About You," "She's All That," or "The Princess Diaries" (the first one, haha) you might give it a try. Just keep in mind that I haven't watched it in 20 years, so if I'm forgetting about something bad about it, please don't yell at me! 😂
