War To Go: Illinois Will No Longer Allow Landlords To Consider Immigration Status

Illinois also enacted legislation extending standard driver's licenses to undocumented immigrants

An Illinois law set to go into effect at the beginning of 2024 will ban landlords from discriminating against potential tenants on the basis of their immigration status.

Illinois Democratic Gov. J.B. Pritzker signed SB 1817 into law late last month, which will add "protections in the Illinois Human Rights Act for housing regarding immigration status protection and discriminatory advertising."

The law was part of several pieces of legislation Pritzker signed last month, including another law aimed at giving undocumented immigrants access to state drivers licenses. The bill replaces the current Temporary Visitor Driver's License with a standard license that will last four years, a move that will impact over 300,000 people who currently hold the temporary licenses.

"This legislation is a significant step in eliminating the barriers to opportunity that many undocumented immigrants face," Pritzker said in a statement after signing the driver's license legislation, according to Fox 32. "We’re ensuring every eligible individual can obtain a driver’s license, making our roads safer, decreasing stigma, and creating more equitable systems for all."

The effort to expand housing rights to undocumented immigrants was led by Democratic State Sen. Ann Gillespie, who argued the bill would make sure people are not "unjustly denied housing."

"This law sets clear boundaries, protecting the rights of immigrants and ensuring that financial institutions and service providers cannot engage in discriminatory practices," Gillespie said in a press release last week.

Gillespie also noted that the bill would prohibit third party loan modification service providers from modifying their terms of service based on immigration status, though inquiries into immigration status will still be allowed where required by law.

"By making this change, we are breaking down barriers and creating opportunities for immigrants to establish homes and contribute to our communities," Gillespie said in the release. "Someone’s background should not disqualify them from buying or renting property.

Whenever there’s Scorpio/ 8th house transits my credit score, money & identity / appearance is affected. ( Scorpio sun & rising)

I have an expired ID 🪪 from my birthday last week, because 2 hair stylists cancelled on me and refused to do my hair. I can’t take a road test & get my driver’s license, because my permit is expired & I have to take a picture to get a new one. I can’t take the pictures for either, because I can’t wear my hijab and I need to get hair done, because I don’t know how to do my hair. Tried to get a loan today & couldn’t because of my expired ID. You can’t do anything with an expired ID.

I REALLY don’t want my ID, permit AND driver’s license pictures to be ugly. I also don’t wanna have to get my hair done & wear makeup to look somewhat presentable, when the pictures will come out ugly anyways… I’m under so much stress, because of my appearance.

I feel extremely overwhelmed & down right hideous. I know I hate to get all of this done. Did I mention none of this would be happening, had I just did everything LAST YEAR instead of being so damn scared?

Anybody got advice? My anxiety is on 1000 & I KNOW I’m going to breakdown & cry. I’m so jelly of you girlies out here, who are just so beautiful & photogenic 😭 HOW do you do it? Like I’m thinking I’m gonna really need to take classes or watch tutorials on how to look good & pose correctly.

Hello, August. And speaking of GT Movie 🟦🟥, they released a custom personalized license card (or Driver License) for the upcoming movie (on Aug 30th in my home country 🇵🇭). 🚘🏁🚘🎫🎦 And since the trio (including Bonn) LOVES the "Gran Turismo" game franchise (as much as the next OC person), I decided to draw them in their race suits to make them like a pro-racer on the race course. 🚘🏁🪪 Yes, the Speedster Trio still have their owned "Junior Driver License" as a legitimate valid ID, but that from the GT Movie is only a souvenir. Also, I added "Racer" as their apprentice course. 😉

Wednesday October 25/23- Peter Renewed his Driver’s License! He asked for 2 Cards ***

Peter and the gurls up around 6:45 a.m. and me at 7:05 a.m. I took my a.m******. 1. x T + Pink *****first thing when I got up with a full glass water! 💧 Peter and Bella left at 7:43 to go to the Vets so, Bella can have a Liver Test! Luca and I are at the bus! 🚌 Peter said he’s going to run around Burnaby Lake after dropping Bella at the Vet! So, he’ll be late maybe around 11:00 ! Time to go to Lou-heed to Renew Drivers at 12:26 a.m. ****I had 1 x T *******before leaving the houseLicense! His appointment time is 11:30 a.m. No bathroom yet? The weather had rained ☔️ thru the night ! Stopped now ! The weather is mixed today cloud ⛅️ Sun ⛅️!as I was making my bagel 🥯 Peter popped in at 9:30 and we both had bagels! He’s going to get his new license x 2 cards 🪪 🪪 today! I had a Large Poop 💩💩at 10:20 a.m. this morning! We went to the license place and peter got waited on at 11:26 a.m. Then off to walmart another*****1 x T at Noon *****! Home now for 12:10 p.m. ******1 x T at 12:19 p.m. ******!
