just saw some discourse abt how mel never wanted hextech to be made into weapons (or used, other than for defense), but caitlyn did, and even used them herself, implying in some way that caitlyn is awful and horrible and mel is pookie and all the comments were saying it's weird that mel gets so much hate and caitlyn is liked by so many fans. and it's like.
while caitlyn is a very popular and well liked character, i'm pretty sure she is also by far the most hated arcane character. those things don't cancel each other out. let people like the characters they like and dislike the characters they dislike (as long as they aren't toxic, bigoted, or canon-rewriting gaslighters abt it, which sadly a lot of caitlyn and mel haters alike are lol).
with the fandom politics side of things out of the way, i wanna talk abt caitlyn and mel now!!
now idk the specific league lore but young mel basically watched her warmonger mother behead another child after felling a kingdom as a lesson after mel suggested to spare her. ambessa then proceeded to exhile mel in the position of council member of piltover, allowing her to do as she deemed fit. we know mel prefers to use diplomacy and manipulation, rather than weapons, or the promise for violence. bcuz mel is probably the only person in piltover (other than the noxians who arrive) who knows anything at all about warfare. with how much senseless death and destruction she's seen, of course she believes just having weapons itself is enough means of warning and security. she says it herself that piltover would be lucky to never have to use the weapons jayce makes.
when greyson, the sheriff herself, lets young caitlyn win the shooting competition and asks her what she's shooting for, caitlyn already knows: she's shooting to protect others, to stop crime, to solve mystery, and she's an excellent shot. the guns with the kiramman crest in her ancestors' portraits, the significance of caitlyn trading her gun for shimmer to save vi, even her mother busting through her bedroom door with her gun cocked when she heard caitlyn and vi sneaking in are all a sign of this. caitlyn admittedly hasn't stared war in the eyes. she'd barely even seen the brutality of death first hand before what happened to cassandra, who she could've saved, had she taken the shot. which is why she sees using weapons as protection, not just having them.
but this isn't to say caitlyn is wrong, or evil, or inherently violent! it's just that her background, her skill set and her lived experiences have all made her the way she is. it's worth mentioning she's been firmly against innocents being harmed since the very beginning. it's originally her and mel against salo when it comes to the armed enforcers invasion - on the alternative hellfire squad, only caitlyn and vi have hextech. (her desire not to harm civilians is what drives her and vi to use the grey, but a lot of people in this fandom found that to be way worse than potentially getting shot or blown up, so nevermind i guess.) and when caitlyn does invade zaun under ambessa's influence once all else fails, she still doesn't supply the enforcers or the noxians with hextech. she's against instigating violence, she's against arrests without cause, she's against what singed had done to others through shimmer, she's implicitly against warwick being used as a weapon.
and another cool thing about caitlyn is, for someone extremely proficient in shooting, she has an unclear but incredibly low kill count. she's seen predominantly injuring with her normal rifle (i. e. shooting sevika's metal arm to get her to leave vi when she could've probably just killed her), and dealing non lethal blows with her hextech rifle (net munition, electricity-like headshots when we see it could fully singe parts off like jinx's middle finger).

It might also be a good idea to take a short refresher course if it has been a long since you were last behind the wheel. Finally, ensure you have all your documents in order; you will need a valid driver's license, proof of address, and insurance documents.
6. Tips and Advice for Passing Your Test Quickly and Easily
To increase your chances of passing the driving test, practice regularly and stay keenly aware of the rules of the road. Ensure you have read up on safe driving techniques and plan a route for each lesson that will challenge you differently. Paying attention to your instructor's advice and taking their feedback is also important. just a little history lesson for Arcane fans that joined with the show:
the premise for the emotional core of piltover/zaun started with Ekko. Get Jinxed hinted at it, but Ekko was the champion that REALLY kicked it off. Before then, I didn't feel like Piltover and Zaun were really more than just "shiny science city" and "gross science city."
Ekko was the first Piltover/Zaun champion to be released after the retconning of Summoner's Rift, IIRC, and he brought with him the first real sympathetic look at Zaun. Before then, we did have Janna's implications that Zaun could be a good place, and we did have Viktor's implications that Piltover frequently screwed over Zaun. But those were largely overshadowed, respectively, by Janna's sexualization in the Journal of Justice, and the release of Jayce, whose lore proceeded to frame Viktor as an evil monster with no redeemable qualities who did exactly everything his lore claimed was done to him. The factors we see in Arcane wouldn't really be defined until Ekko's lore.
And oh, was he such a good champion for his time. He released with a super cool introduction video that got people speculating on all sorts of stuff about the setting, such as the presence of chem barons and chemtech. He got a comic that made me bawl about his attempts to save his friend from a monster in Piltover. He got his stories about his parents, who worked long days and couldn't give him all the time in the world, and so he'd use his hextech drive to have more time with his family.
While the story likely started with Jinx, and maybe even Vi, we got a broader look at it with Ekko. Ekko was probably the first time we got concrete lore that didn't just hint at possible connections (worth noting that Jinx and Vi weren't hard confirmed as sisters UNTIL Arcane, just heavily implied, so you'd still get arguments about their connection). I'll never forget his release. He was so cool from a lore perspective, and I'm really glad we got him as a champion.
I might do a deeper retrospective on the Roots of Arcane and where we first got each lore implication (Warwick is perhaps the biggest smoking gun for the show-- he's the character who has arguably changed the least between Arcane universe and base universe) if people are interested! I love Arcane and I also love base universe League lore, so if people wanna hear me talk about it, I'll go ham >:)

Forgive our Sins
5 years after the events of Immortality, Sara and Grissom are living back in Las Vegas when a ghost from their past reappears in their life forcing them to face some old decisions. GSR of course! Enjoy it! I hope you like it and please review it! (Sorry if there are mistakes but I'm not a native English speaker and a special thanks to my friend LuLu for reading it)
PART 1 They went through a lot together during their 16 years long relationship. She left him and the sin city, he went to Costa Rica for her, they got married, they got divorced, she went to San Diego and sailed with him. They hurt each other more than once, but their love never stopped. In the end, they gave up their carriers to stay together, got married again and now they were finally living happily together. Grissom and Sara are back in Vegas, living in a small house in the university district. While Sara works as a consultant for the crime lab, Gil is a part-time professor of entomology who tends to stick his nose in his wifeâs forensic cases. 14 years have passed since the miniature killer events and Natalie Davis is still in prison. In her cell she keeps a collection of miniatures and she is now working on a new one. She interrupts her work on the miniature to write a letter. Itâs a difficult one: she had tried to write this letter so many times without success, in fact there are a few ripped sheets of paper on the floor. This time is different, she manages to use the rights words and, once done, she sends the envelope to the Las Vegas Crime Lab. Itâs addressed to Sara Sidle. What does she want from Sara? Does she want to make amends? Does she want to go after her again? PART 2 A car is parked outside Sara and Grissom's house and the driver is observing Sara. One day on her way to work, Sara notices him and tries to run away, but suddenly sheâs caught in an incident. She is brought to the hospital where a frightened Grissom arrives. Fortunately, Sara is fine, she only has some bruises and she is soon allowed to leave the hospital to go home with her husband. Sara tells Grissom what happened and now they fear someone is chasing them. Thanks to the street CCTVs the police finds and arrests the stalker, however the man has nothing to do with the accident. Thus, he is released, but not after securing a conversation with Sara Sidle. He is a private detective and he needs to talk to Sara because his client, a woman named Kelly Ross, wants to meet her. Sara asks the detective the reason for this meeting and he responds that Mrs. Ross instructed him to reveal only in which part of Vegas she lives and, most importantly, that they have someone in common. Sara is caught off guard as she doesnât know what to expect from this. However, she canât help but feel curious. PART 3 On their day off Grissom drives Sara to Mrs. Ross, but he waits outside in the car. He is worried but he respects Saraâs decision to go in alone. When opening the door, Mrs. Ross welcomes Sara with a warm hug then she lets her in. Gil Grissom observes the whole scene speechless. When Sara comes back couple of hours later, she is in shock and immediately askes Grissom to take her home. He wants to know about the meeting, yet Sara begs him to give her some time to put her thoughts together. That evening in their kitchen Sara tells him a story she kept for herself for far too long. FLASHBACK:13 YEARS EARLIER The miniature killer had changed everything: the team had found about her relationship with Grissom, she had to join swing and above all she felt something inside her had broken and no one, not even Griss, could do anything to help her. She was so depressed that she decided to leave Vegas and the love of her life. She was in L.A. visiting her mom when she started to feel unwell. It took her a few days to even conceive the idea that she could be pregnant. She went to the nearest drugstore and paid for a test that she took directly in the customers toilet. She waited in there for almost an hour with the result in her hands: POSITIVE! How could it be? She didnât want a child and Grissom neither. They talked about this at the beginning of their story and even more recently when he proposed. They (she and Griss) were the only family they wanted. How could she tell Grissom something like that? At least by phone she could avoid looking into his eyes and see his disappointment. She went back to her motel room and waited for the morning to come. She didnât sleep all night, she kept looking at the clock on the wall. When she was sure Grissom could be home from work, she called him. He picked up almost immediately. She heard him giggling at the other side of the phone, but his joy faded at the news. Sara was so depressed; their relationship was stalling and surely, he wasnât ready to be a father. Thus, they both agreed to end the pregnancy. Grissom offered to come to L.A. to be close to her, but Sara declined. She wanted to do it alone and he didnât complain. She had just booked an appointment at a private clinic, when her mother got sick, so she had to postpone the whole thing. When she finally got there 3 weeks later, it was too late to proceed with the abortion. She had no another choice but to contact the social services to find a family for her unborn child.  She never told Gilbert she carried their baby and that he was put up for adoption. To him, this was a dead story. Just 10 days before Warwickâs murder she delivered a healthy baby boy who she held only briefly in her arms before giving him away. When she came back to Vegas, Grissom was so devastated he didnât even notice her body didnât have the usual silhouette and she kept the secret for herself. Until now. Saraâs confession is very painful, she fears Gilbertâs reaction. She fears he will hate her and never forgive her for taking his son away. However, Grissom isnât angry. He seems quite relieved instead. Grissom reaches his hand out across the table and places it on top of Saraâs, giving it a gentle squeeze: - I donât begrudge you honey. In the end, you did what we had decided. At the time we didnât want a kid and you didnât keep it. Honestly, Iâm quite happy it went this way. â Sara raises her head: - Really? â Grissom admits: - Yeah, because now, 13 years later, we are talking about someone we created, someone who has our genes and who probably is still alive. Even if he is somewhere, we donât know where and who raised him â Sara reveals: - Gil, his name is Dylan, he is here in Vegas and Mrs. Ross is his adoptive mother â Grissom is astonished: - What? Heâs in Vegas right now? Did you see him? â Sara shakes her head: - No, he was at school - Grissom: - How did Mrs. Ross find you? â Sara: - I canât explain it, but since I had decided for an open adoption, she must have assumed a detective to find me. - Grissom: - But why now? â Sara: - Because she wants to give us a second chance â Grissom: - Sorry I donât get it â Sara: - She is dying, she has terminal cancer and her husband has died of Covid last year. She fears that once sheâs dead her boy will end up living in an institute until his 18th birthday. -  Grissomâs heart starts beating fast, he canât bear it any more. Maybe itâs his age but he wants to be a father now. However, he knows everything itâs up to his Sara: - Can weâŚ? What do you want to do? - Sara: - Honestly⌠I donât know â Grissom: - Sara, we are his parents! â Saraâs answer is firm: - No, we lost that right a long time ago Gil! â Grissom corrects himself: - You are right, but we have to do something. Donât you want to get to know him? To see who he looks like? â Sara:  - Of course I want to, but I am also terrified. I abandoned him. For all I know he could hate me. â Gil replies: - He could love you. -  Sara gives Grissom a sad smile. Grissom tries to lift her spirit: - He could be a geek like us - Sara announces: - Gil, he is a special boy, he is not like the other kids â Grissom asks: -What do you mean? â Sara: - Mrs. Ross told me Dylan canât hear, he has a genetic disease that made him almost deaf 5 years ago. Grissom is hurt, he canât find the words to express his feelings. Sara notices his reaction and she gently touches his leg. Sara: - Are you ok? â Grissom nods: - I just donât know how to feel about this: happy because I have something in common with my son or sad that I passed this pain to him It's all my...  â Sara raises Gilbertâs chin, she cuts him off this time, shaking her head: "No, it's not. and it's not right to put the blame all on you. We both made stupid decisions in our relationship that lead us to where we are now." She takes a breath and speaks again more softly. "Now, I just want to put all of that behind us and start over..." Grissom clears his throat and asks in a more serious tone: - So... what do you think? â  Sara takes both his hands in her and smiled a little: - I think we are going to speak with Kelly Ross and arrange a meeting with Dylan. Ok? â Grissom nods satisfied. Sara: - Letâs see what happens but we have to keep our hopes grounded â Grissom: - Ok⌠Come here â and takes Sara in his arms: - I love you, no matter what! â Sara leans towards him. She looks him in his eyes and responds with a tender kiss on his lips whispering against them "I love you tooâ.
PART 4 Sara spends the week working and thinking, thinking and working. Tension and expectations building up every day, more and more. In her mind Sara has imagined their meeting with Dylan at least 300 times, she has repeated all the possible things she could say to him, but every time his reaction is bad and the meeting goes wrong. Even Grissom is anxious; nonetheless he tries to distract Sara: he invites her to see one of his lessons at the university, he proposes a trip on a boat over the lake Mead and he takes her out to dinner. The Italian restaurant they go to is one of their favorites. They eat a very good lasagna and they drink a little more than they usually do, just to relax. Once at home, they go to bed. They face each other but, thinking of the day ahead, they canât sleep. Grissom: - Itâs gonna be fine â Sara: - You canât know that â Gil caresses her hair: - No, but we have to stay positive â Sara takes Gilâs hand and brings it to her cheek: - I donât know what to tell him â Gilâs finger brushes her lips: - The truth! If he asks, weâll tell him the truth - Sara: - But? â Grissom: - Honey, if we want his trust, we have to be honest. We canât lie. - Sara: - I am scared! -  Grissom: - Me too â and he slowly kisses her. She returns the kiss as they are taken by the passion of their bodies, entangled in one. Their minds are lost in the rhythm of that primordial act of desire, they know so well. They are just flesh and skin, sweat and moans. PART 5 Itâs afternoon and they are sitting in a park near Dylanâs school. The sight of the boy approaching them with his mother takes their breath away. Kelly greets them from afar and points them to her son. They stand up and walk in their direction. Sara and Grissom stop when they are in front of Dylan and Kelly.  4 souls, 4 people meant to be a family finally together.  Dylan is a mini version of Grissom. He is not so tall but heâs slim. He has short curly brown hair. His eyes are blue and curios. Behind his left ear he has a hearing aid. Kelly addresses them to Dylan; she gestures in sign language and tells him: - They are the friends I was talking to you about. â Grissom takes courage and speaks first, gesturing his words: - Hi Dylan, my name is Gilbert and she is my wife Sara. We are happy to meet you. Your mother told us a lot about you. â Sara: - Hi, sorry but my sign language is a little rusty. I will try to improve. â Dylan: - Donât worry, I can hear you (he indicates the implant to Sara). Moreover, Iâve learned to read lips. You, (he addresses to Grissom) on the other hand are very good. â Grissom: - Thanks. My mum was deaf, she taught me â Dylan nods pondering the answer. Sara tries to break the silence: - How was your day? Do you like school? â Kelly intervenes: - He is the best of his class â Dylan gives her a little buff on her right arm: - Mum please! â Kelly smiles: - He is shy, he doesn't like to brag â Grissom and Sara, grinning, exchange a look of complicity mixed with pride: - We can imagine â Dylan fixes them and he asks abruptly: - Why donât you tell me who you really are? â Grissom and Sara almost choke: - What? â Kelly scolds him: - Dylan?! â Dylan continues: - You are my real parents, arenât you? Sara feels responsible and wants to give him an answer: - You are right, Iâm your birth mother and he is your father. â Dylan insists: - Why are you here? â Kelly: - I asked them to come â Dylan turns to his mother in shock but Kelly goes on: - I have to know that you would be safe, cared for and loved when I will be gone â Dylan: - How could you think that I would stay with someone who abandoned me? â Kelly interrupts them: - You three need to talk, you need to know each other. Dylan please, you have to listen to them â Dylan: - I donât want to â and he runs away. Kelly touches Saraâs shoulder, she feels her pain and apologizes for Dylanâs reaction: - Give him some time.  He is a good boy⌠heâs very smart â Grissom sighs: - I see â Sara is ashamed: - He is right, I made a mistake. â Kelly tries to soothe her by saying: - We all make mistakes, Sara â Sara: - But he is the one whoâs paying the consequences of that mistake â Grissom: - We had our reasons, dearâ Sara locks her eyes on Gil: - and why does it all seem so wrong now? â Kelly: - Let me talk to him â Sara replies: - No, I want to try - Sara goes to look for Dylan; Grissom follows her but she turns and stops him: - Give me 5 minutes â Gil nods; she approaches the boy. He is sitting on a swing. Sara asks him permission with a soft voice: - Can I? â Dylan shrugs his shoulders and Sara sits in the swing next to him. The boy leaps down and faces her. Sara: - Iâm so sorry for everything, Dylan. Iâm sorry for your mum, for your dad, for your earing problems, and above all I'm sorry for what I did to you. â Dylan: - Why did you leave me? â Sara tries her best to formulate an answer: - Itâs complicated.... I wasnât feeling very well. Something bad had happened to me. â Dylan interrupts her: - My father? Did he hurt you? â Sara: - No, absolutely not. He has always been kind to me â she invites Grissom to join them and he moves in their direction. â I was, I still am a Crime Scene Investigator. Do you know what it is? â Dylan nods and Sara continues: - I was working on a case, and a serial killer kidnapped me and left me to die. I managed to escape, your father and other members of my team saved me â Dylan listens very carefully. â But after that, nothing was the same. I was broken and unhappy. I wasnât myself anymore and I couldnât stay there. I went away from your father, from this town, from my old life. I could not be a good mother for you, you deserved more. â Dylan looks at Sara and then Grissom and says: - You are married now â Sara declares: - We got back together 5 years ago. â Grissom kneels in front of Dylan: - We're not here to be your parents, you already have them â Dylan states: - My mum is great! â Grissom agrees: - Itâs true. We just want to know you, Dylan! â Sara teases: - Can you give us a chance? â Dylan thinks and then asks Sara something that has always intrigued him: - Did you give me a name before.. you .. ? Sara affirms instantly: - Arthur, I named you Arthur â
LITTLE FLASHBACK OF 13 YEARS EARLIER Sara was holding her baby when a nurse entered the room to take him. The social assistant was waiting outside. The woman checked the papers she had filled in. On the birth certificate she had written her name, Gilbertâs, and a new one: ARTHUR. She gave her baby a kiss on the forehead and passed him to the nurse who left the room, closing the door to a crying Sara. Grissom turns towards Sara, surprised by her admission. Sara looks at him directly in his eyes: - Itâs your fatherâs middle name! â Dylan chuckles, satisfied by the answer: - Itâs my middle name too â Sara is grateful that the Ross in some way had kept the name she had chosen for him. Dylan remarks: - My father was a pastor, he always told me to forgive the others. Iâm forgiving you! â They give him an appreciative smile before Grissom touches his head saying: - Heâd be very proud â Dylan nods and walks over to an emotional Sara. He wipes a tear from her face, similarly to what Gilbert would have done. She whispers a thank you to him, then they return to the bench where Kelly was sitting, watching the whole scene.
PART 6 Grissom and Sara start seeing Dylan every day after school. Their bond gets deeper and deeper. Dylan looks more at ease with them. He loves spending time with Gil, making experiments, going fishing or sailing. They find a new balance in their lives. Every once in a while, he even spends the night with them. The guest bedroom has become his room now. Kellyâs cancer on the other hand gets worse and she ends in hospital. Itâs a Wednesday morning when Sara picks up Dylan from school and brings him to the hospital to give his mother one last hug. Kelly Ross dies at 2.00 PM of that same day and Dylan cries in the arms of Gilbert. Â At the funeral he stands between Sara and Grissom. He is brave but silent. Over the last year, he has lost both of his parents and found two new ones. Itâs strange how life takes an unexpected turn sometimes and turns up the way it should have from the beginning. Â In fact, before her death, Kelly had arranged things so that Sara and Gil could have full custody of the boy and become a family.
PART 7 Sara is in a hurry; she greets her boss and some other members of the team as she prepares to leave the office. The receptionist at the desk calls her back and gives her some correspondence. She doesnât have time to read it, she will do it later with calm. All she wants to do now is to go home to her boys and to enjoy the evening with them. After dinner Dylan does his homework in the living room, Gil prepares his lesson and Sara tidies the kitchen up. She suddenly remembers the letters in her purse, so she takes a break to read them. An envelope without a sender attracts her attention. She rips the envelope and her jaw drops.
Dear Sara Sidle, Iâm Natalie Davis, you probably remember me as the miniature killer. Iâve been thinking of you very often lately. I know, I donât have the right to write to you after all this time, but my journey here in prison made me reflect on my actions and on what I have done to you and to the other victims. Iâm so sorry Mrs Sidle, I canât change the past and my apologies canât relieve your pain or what youâve lost. I was angry and I seeked vengeance for no real reason except because I couldnât accept the daemons from my past. I should have known that that wasnât the answer but I was too lost. I hold Mr Grissom responsible for the death of Arnie Dell and I tried to take you away from him because of his love for you. However, and now I know this, it was not his fault and you were a collateral damage in my inner war. I donât deserve your forgiveness; Iâm not searching for redemption. Iâm just happy that you are alive. I also hope life has been kind to you and that Mr Grissom is still by your side.                                                    Sincerely, Natalie Davis          Â
Sara confronts Grissom about the letter and what to do next. They are concerned, still they decide to go to the county jail to see Natalie in person. As CSI they get a special permit to meet her in the interrogation room. The door opens and a guard escorts Natalie Davis inside. She is handcuffed and sheâs wearing an orange suit. For the first time in 14 years she, Sara and Gil are in the same room. The guard moves to stand in a corner and Natalie sits at the table. Natalie is surprised by this visit: - I didnât expect you to come. - Sara: - I didnât expect your letter either. - They contemplate in silence for some time. Natalie clears her throat: - Anyway, thank you. Your presence here is very important to me â Sara replies: - Iâm here because I wanted to look you in the eyes, to make sure your words were true and your regret sincere. Natalie: - Mrs. Sidle, I donât know what to do to prove it to you - Sara: - You wrote you donât deserve forgiveness⌠â Natalie: - No, I donât. Iâm a sinner and I need to be punished for my sins! â Sara: - Hmmm. It was not easy to understand it but now, now Iâve got it. We have different backgrounds, different stories but we have one thing in common â Natalie looks confused. Sara continues: - We are survivors, Natalie! We are women with physical and psychological scars. I could have surrendered to the difficulties that life put in front of me, as you did, but I decided to move on and Iâm still doing it â Sara grabs Gilbertâs hand and squeezes it. They exchange a tender look. They both smile before Sara shakes her head and goes on: â Therefore, I forgive you! â Natalie is incredulous: - Why are you so good to me after all Iâve done? - Sara: - Iâm not good, I just think this place and your sense of guilt are enough for me. We cannot live in resentment forever, and you know what? Iâve learned such an important lesson from a very mature 13 years old boy who has been through hell in such a short time. Goodbye Natalie. - Sara and Gil stand up and leave the room, Natalie and her nightmares behind. Dylan will be home soon with some of his friends. Tonight, they will go to the Luna park, they will ride the rollercoaster and then eat pizza. Their future is definitely bright.

A/N: This drawing didnât come out how I liked it to but oh well. Itâs as good as itâs gonna get.
Jem watched out the passenger side window as the car came to a slow stop outside the high school. Jem examined the terrain silently, noticing how friend groups were already forming before classes. Many of these kids looked shady and Jem thanked any god that would listen for the fact that they remembered their pocket knife.
âI changed my mind.â Jem stated plainly, shaking their head. âI wanna be homeschooled. Like now.â
Jemâs mother, Kalliope shook her head playfully. In her soft, southern belle tone she replied, âJem, you canât read the lesson plan let alone do the work on your own. And if we want to keep the house I need to work during the day. Which is why you agreed-â
âI know what I agreed to, the issue is I didnât know what I agreed to.â Jem argued, keeping a neutral tone. âMom, Iâm pretty sure some of these kids are in gangs.â
âVarsity jackets doesnât make them a gang honey.â Kalliope giggled.
Jem motioned agressively towards a specific group of kids dressed in leather jackets. âIâm talking about them. The kids who look like theyâre bleeding out by the second.â
Kalliope pressed her lips into a thin line. âMaybe a bowling team?â She said hopeful. âOr, you can do a gang initiation on the first day of school. How exciting is that?â
Kalliope gave Jem a huge grin at her own joke that Jem couldnât help but mirror her expression. âThereâs my little baby.â She tickled the bottom of their chin, which just made Jem smile harder.
âMom stop.â Jem playfully asked. âUncle, uncle!â
Kalliope laughed once more before saying, âAt least give this school a try. For your momâs sake?â
âAnything for you, Ma.â Jem nodded, giving her a quick peck on the cheek. âGotta go, love you.â
âLove you more baby.â She responded. As soon as Jem closed the door, Kalliope drive off to her first day at work.
People began to stare at Jem immediately, some whispering behind their hands, others not even bothering to hide their laughs. Jem put in their headphones, and threw the hood of their hoodie up.
Just one year. They thought to themselves. For Mom, and for... Dad.
Jem slowly made their way through the halls of the school before reaching the office. They kept their head low, avoiding eye contact with literally everyone until the reached the safety of the office. Jem had to fight the need to sigh in relief upon entering.
Pulling out their headphones, Jem immediately heard a shrill voice say, âOh my god, hi!â
Jem jumped, looking around in panic for the source of the noise. Right behind them was a redheaded girl, with her hair tied up in a tight ponytail. She was dressed in a soft, baby pink jacket, with a white blouse and matching pants. What was more unique than the freckles that graced her sharp features were her big, amber eyes.
Jem looked around again before saying, âAre you talking to me?â
âYouâre uh...â The girl flipped through a couple papers on her clipboard, âJem Morale, right?â
âUnfortunately.â Jem muttered under their breath before nodding enthusiastically. âThatâs me, you are?â
âAngelina Page, pleasure.â She shook their hand gleefully. âSince Iâll be escorting you around for this early morning part, I already took the liberty of grabbing your class schedule, your violin for band class, and your food stamps for lunch.â She handed all of the above over to Jem, leaning and whispering âBut weâll keep the last part between you and me. Some of these kids can be really judgemental.â
âYou donât say.â Jem nodded, squinting their eyes suspiciously but smiling nonetheless.
Angelina hooked her arm around Jemâs and dragged them along. âAdmittedly, and shamefully this school is really cliquey. But, considering youâre already participating in extra curriculars,â Angelina flicked the violin case for extra measure, âyouâll find your footing in no time.â
âYeah, what clique do you belong to?â Jem asked, just trying to make polite conversation.
Angelina paused before giving Jem another beaming smile, âOh I prefer to dabble in every friend group. Mostly the smart kids though. It comes with the territory of being President of almost every club in the school.â
She continued adding little âimpressiveâ facts about herself as she showed Jem around the school. Jem just nodded politely, not wanting to ruffle any feathers. But honestly, it seemed like it didnât matter if Jem was listening or not. They got the impression that Angelina didnât have a lot of people to talk to.
At long last, Angelina stopped at the band room. She finally let go of Jemâs arm, and gave them a reassuring pat on the back. âWell, time for us to part ways. But Jem Morale, if you ever need to sit by a friendly face Iâm typically in the library. I guess Iâll be seeing you around.â
Doubt it. âYeah, sounds good.â
Jem quickly slinked into the classroom, unfortunately though the class had already started. So each student and the teacher turned dramatically towards them and Jem felt the world begin to cave in on them.
âAh,â the teacher acknowledged warmly, âyou must be the new student.â The teacher sidestepped, allowing room for Jem at the front of the shaded classroom.
Jem reluctantly stepped up, pressing their lips into a thin smile. They fidgeted with their sleeves, and shifted back and forth on their feet.
âPlease, tell us about yourself.â The teacher welcomed. âWe all already introduced ourselves by our name, out instrument, and a little fun fact about ourselves.â
Jem clears their throat. âWell, uh, nameâs Jem. I play the violin. And uh, I guess a fun fact about me would be that the only thing I hate more than being put on the spot is public speaking.â
The class snickered, some tried covering it up with a cough or two. Jem gave a sharp glare to the teacher, before finding a seat in the back of the class. They put their violin case and backpack next to their chair and got comfortable with their instrument.
Throughout the class, the teacher made sure to keep an eye on Jem. Jem wasnât sure if it was because he didnât trust them, or to make sure Jem was keeping up with the music. Jem did reasonably well, surprising even themselves.
When the bell rang, the entire class rose from their seats, packing up their supplies. Jem knelt beside their stuff, and tucked their music sheets into their bag. As they were doing that, another person accidentally kicked their bag and case over. Jemâs bagâs contents spilled out.
The blonde girl shouted, âOh my god dude, Iâm so sorry.â She hurriedly helped pack Jemâs stuff up as well. Neither of them had realised Jemâs pocket knife had slipped out as well until the girl tossed it to Jem. They both did a double take in shock at the blade.
Jem gave the girl an awkward smile, and was going to ask her not to tell anyone. But before they could, Jem heard a deep voice clear their throat from behind them. Jem froze, and slowly turned towards their teacher.
âMr. Morale.â The teacher spoke with disgust. âI think we both know where youâll be heading after this class.â He stuck out his hand and Jem sheepishly placed the blade in his hand.
âAgain, Iâm really sorry.â The girl muttered, patting them on the back.
âMiss Warwick, get to class.â The teacher warned, and the girl quickly leaped up from her spot and ran out of the classroom. Once she had left, the teacher turned back to Jem. âNow, do I need to show you to the principalâs office? Or do you think you can remember?â
Jem nodded, picking up their stuff. âI think I got it.â
Jem shamefully walked back to the office, whispers about the knife already spreading through the halls. Jem shuffled up to the secretaryâs desk and said in a voice just above a whisper, âHi, Iâm Jem Morale. I was sent here by-â
âI know what youâre here for honey.â The secretary popped her gum in Jemâs face. âThe vice-principal will see you in a bit, but Iâm gonna try to contact one of your parents or guardians. You do have one of those, donât you?â
Jemâs eyes widened at that side-comment but Jem just replied, âUh yeah. Totally. Sheâs at work though, you might not be able to reach her.â
âJust go sit down over there,â the secretary gestured to a row of chairs, âsomeone will come to get you in a minute or two.â
Jem nodded, walking over to where she gestured but not really paying attention to where they were going. They were so focused on their momâs disappointed face. It was a worse fate then most. And all of a sudden, their world came crashing down.
Literally.
Jem tripped over an obstacle, and landed on their hands into the cold, hard floor. Only inches away from hitting their head against a black leather boot. Jem quickly rolled away and shot back up to their feet, âOh my god, Iâm so sorry.â
Upon investigating, Jem noticed there was another foot that had tripped them. The person who tripped them was sprawled out in their seat, completely sunk down into it. She was a short girl, with dark hair and bright amber eyes. She was quite skinny, and dressed in cheap clothes that somehow worked for her.
âDude,â the girl said, âwatch where youâre going.â
âIt wasnât his fault,â the other person, whoâs foot Jem almost bashed their head into argued. He was around the same height as Jem, with black hair and nice scruff. His sea green eyes were aggressive, but also playful in a way. He was in a nice leather coat, and a white t-shirt. âMaybe stop trying to take up the whole bench.â
The girl shrugged, unconcerned. âThey were zoned out, how else would you explain completely missing my obviously extended foot.â
âShh!â The secretary snapped, which Jem immediately forced themselves in the seat between the boy and the girl. The girl re-positioned, bringing her knees up to her chest in the chair. While the boy just began casually leaning, and examining Jem with his eyes, curiously.
âWhatâd you do?â The boy asked.
Jem shrugged, âIsnât that what prisoners ask each other when they first get there.â
The boy chuckled, âGod no. Keep your mouth shut, and you stay out of trouble behind bars.â
How does he know that? Jem thought, but immediately decided to drop it before getting themselves into even more trouble.
âAlveyn Jones, pleasure to meet you.â The boy named Alveyn stuck out his hand for a shake.
Jem nodded, politely shaking back, âJust call me Jem.â
âAerilyn.â The girl grumbled, but immediately shot up in excitement. âI mean, weâre all here because weâre horrible people, right?â
âSure.â Both Jem and Alveyn shrugged, Jem more panicked and Alveyn his usual nonchalant self.
Aerilyn leaned forward conspiratorially, âSo, as punishment for my ârude and aggressive behaviourâ they took away my necklace. But thatâs really important to me, and Iâm pretty that violates some sort of rights that I have.â
Jem and Alveyn completely nodded along, pretending to understand but they would be lying if they really got a full grasp of what was going on.
âFor the record,â Jem stated, âI donât think youâre rude and aggressive at all.â
Thatâs a lie, but oh well.
Aerilyn punched his shoulder gently, âThanks dude. Anyways, my necklace is tucked into the lost and found drawer. Itâs the second drawer on the secretaryâs right.â
âThat sounds impossible to get.â Jem commented.
âBut a hell of a lot of fun.â Alveyn added. Â
Quickly improvising a plot before the vice-principal came back, the unlikely allies began putting the plan into fruition. Alveyn stepped up from his seat and approached the secretaryâs window.
âSherrie, howâre you today beautiful?â Alveyn grinned, leaning against the window with one arm propped up on the window.
Her bubblegum popped once more, âHoney, get back to your seat. You know youâre not going to get into any real trouble for this.â
âBut I canât stay too long after school. I gotta support my kid.â Alveyn nodded solemnly, even tearing up the slightest bit.
As Alveyn continued with the distraction, Jem crouched on the ground. All the other students didnât seem too bothered by the display. Sneaking around the corner, into the office Jem kept cover behind the right side of the secretaryâs desk.
âSeriously Sher,â Alveyn continued, âjust hand me a note that says I went through with my detention so I can show it to my teacher. Pretty please?â He gestured to the notepad to her left.
The secretary shook her head, âYouâre lucky youâre handsome kid.â She said as she turned away from Jem. Without further ado, Jem stood up from their position. They reached over the desk and opened the drawer. Lying there is a silver necklace, with a ruby stone that gleamed in the light. Jem swiftly snatched it and closed the drawer. Then ducked back behind the desk. They reached across and handed the necklace back to Aerilyn.
The secretary went back to hand the note to Alveyn, but froze. Behind Alveyn, the vice principal was back, looking directly at Jem and Aerilyn. Alveyn spun around, his million dollar smile evident. The secretary leaned over her desk to see Jem mid reach.
âAerilyn!â The vice-principal shouted, which immediately triggered a series of events. Jem stood up, dusting themselves off and handed the necklace back to the secretary. Aerilyn also joined Jem in standing up, but stepped out of the way so that the vice-principal could walk through. And Alveyn, tearing up the note that got him out of detention.
âSup VP?â Aerilyn put up a peace sign, hoping to bring some humour to the situation.
The vice-principal stepped up towards the trio. âAnd now who have you brought into your little kleptomaniac agenda?â
Jem sheepishly raised their hand, âExcuse me, sir? I just think you should know, Iâm non-binary. I donât have a genda.â
Alveyn buckled over into laughter, while Aerilyn gave an impish laugh as well. It goes without saying, the three of them showed up in Detention at the end of the day. It was run by a different teacher that Jem hadnât had the âpleasureâ of meeting.
It was only the three of them, but as soon as the VP left Alveyn immediately got out of his seat. âWell, this was fun lads. I hope to see you around.â Alveyn ruffled Jemâs already shaggy hair, âBy the way, amazing work with getting that necklace, Bandit. I hope we can do it again sometime.â
âHey!â Aerilyn shouted. âWhat about me? I helped!â
Alveyn shook his head, âNo you didnât. You were supposed to be on watch, which you tremendously failed at. But, it was fun nonetheless.â
âThe necklace wasnât even yours to begin with.â Jem added, leaning forward in their seat. Relishing a little bit in Alveynâs touch, not that theyâd ever admit it.
âI wanted it more.â Aerilyn argued.
âThatâs not how that works.â Jem and Alveyn said in unison, but shook their heads gleefully. Alveyn waved goodbye and Jem watched him leave, their stare lingering a little bit.
It took a minute before Aerilyn snapped her fingers and shouted, âHey! You gonna ask him out or something?â
Jem began furiously blushing and the two argued over whether or not Jem was crushing on Alveyn for the next hour. By the time it was ready to go, the vice-principal was waiting for Jem.
âWhat can I do for you?â Jem gave a cocky grin, finally settling into their surroundings. Feeling as though they finally belonged.
The VP began escorting Jem out and said, âI just want to check in. You know, being the new kid and all is tough. I just wouldnât want to you falling into the wrong crowd.â
Jem shrugged, not really caring. âNo offence to your obviously stellar school, but thereâs not a lot of positive crowds to fall in with.â
âYou donât know the Jones kid.â The VP replied.
âAlveyn? He seemed all right to me.â Jem defended, but was also too tired to argue.
The VP shook his head solemnly, âThat kid is a menace, heâs dangerous too. I would stay out of his way as much as I could if I were you.â
Jem didnât really speak after that. They just nodded along to whatever the VP was talking about and made it seem like they were listening. But even when evening began to roll in, and Jem walked down the streets of the unfamiliar town, the vice-principalâs warning still echoed through their head.
Jem walked into the back alley towards the door into their momâs work. That way they wouldnât have to get IDâd just to see their mom. But waiting in the back alley was a familiar face.
Alveyn took a swig from his flask, his playful grin still clear as day. âHowâs it going bandit?â
Jem shook their head in disbelief. âWhatâre you doing here?â
âMe?â Alveyn shrugged nonchalantly. âIâm just on break. How was detention?â
Alveyn handed the flask over to Jem, offering a swig. Jem took it, and hated the taste but obviously refused to show it. âIt was fine. But uh, the VP told me told me to stay away from you. Said that you were dangerous.â
Alveyn chuckled, seeming to agree. âNow Jem, why does something tell me danger is exactly what youâre looking for?â

A judge told a banned drink-driver who smashed into three other vehicles that she would have been jailed if she were a man. Judge Sarah Buckingham said "alcoholic" Victoria Parry would have been "straight down the stairs" to prison had her sex been different. The 30-year-old, who already had two previous convictions for drink-driving was dragged from her Fiat Stilo after the car caught fire following the pile-up on the A46 last May.
Tests showed she was almost three times over the drink-drive limit, while Warwick Crown Court heard she had been drinking up to two bottles of wine a day. Parry - left with a "considerable drink problem" after a 15-year abusive relationship - had also been banned from driving for three years in July 2015 for her second excess alcohol offence.
But - after calling the case "shocking" - the judge delayed sentencing Parry for three months after she admitted a charge of dangerous driving.
And the judge said: âIf Miss Parry was a man, there is no question it would have been straight down the stairs, because this is a shocking case of dangerous driving against a background of two previous convictions for excess alcohol.
âBut this offence was committed in May 2018 and she has not been in trouble since. She has clearly got an alcohol problem. She is, whether she admits it or not, an alcoholic.â
The crash happened at around 6.50pm on May 23 after Parry overtook in the middle of the road in the face of oncoming traffic on the A46 Stratford by-pass. She smashed into a van, a Vauxhall Insignia and wrote off a BMW.Her Fiat then plunged down an embankment and burst into flames in woodland.        Parry, of Grange Road, Bearley, Stratford-upon-Avon, told an off-duty police officer who rushed to help that she had drunk a bottle of wine and "shouldn't be driving", the court heard.Tim Sapwell, prosecuting, said Parry was arrested, and when she took a breath test at the police station almost two hours later, the reading was only just under three times the legal limit.
âThis has been a very salutary lesson to her. Â I would ask that she be spared immediate custody, if at all possible.â
Miss Tapper said Parry had been in an abusive relationship for 15 years, and for the last five years had found herself with a considerable drink problem.
âShe was unable to tackle that after the first offence and after the second offence, but since this matter she has all but stopped drinking.â
Judge Buckingham remarked: âAll but! Â So she hasnât stopped.â
Miss Tapper said Parry had âgot it under control,â and was no longer drinking two bottles of wine a day, and was out of the relationship and in a job where she had stepped down from a management role but was now working her way back up. The judge commented: âIf Miss Parry was a man, there is no question it would have been straight down the stairs, because this is a shocking case of dangerous driving against a background of two previous convictions for excess alcohol.
âBut this offence was committed in May 2018 and she has not been in trouble since. She has clearly got an alcohol problem. She is, whether she admits it or not, an alcoholic.â
Deferring sentence, Judge Buckingham told Parry: âYou richly deserve an immediate custodial sentence of 18 months.  I want to see whether you can really address the issues rather than paying lip service.â Parry was ordered to abstain from alcohol, attend meetings of a body such as Alcoholics Anonymous, and to pay for private counselling to tackle her alcohol problem.
The judge told her: âIf you succeed, I will not make the custody immediate. Â If you donât comply, I will conclude that you are not worthy of the chance.â
âFor those keeping score this woman plowed into three other cars and had to get pulled out of her flaming car.
âFirst Responders had to risk their life for her so she could roam free and do it all over again.
âTime and taxpayer money that can never be replaced was used for a court case where a woman got a slap on the wrist.

Different formats can be accustomed to develop a primary school plan, according to precisely what is most ideal to the teacher who will apply it. RCM primary school, Yabo is the only academic learning centre located in Mbagba Council ward of Mbasombo District, in Gwer-East Local Government Area of Benue State. The school was established over 4 decades ago through the Roman Catholic Mission (RCM) within the tactic to spread the gospel along with educate the followers from the Christian religion, that had been majorly the neighborhood populace in the area. Due to frequent alteration of educational policies in Benue state, the institution was latter taken-over by Gwer-East Local Government Authority as directed through the state government. This was within the 1980s and also, since then, the primary school remained a permanent academic centre within the training of pupils for that near-by secondary schools. Due to the pressures of contemporary living, the younger kids are left without care in most cases. For many parents, the advent of preprimary and play schools is considered as a welcome step. Thus, children could possibly get the opportunity of sticking with other children of what their ages are a real school and spend several hours in the midst of trained teachers and also other personnel. Thus, they can enjoy playing and learn at the same time. This is exactly the thought of this kind of school. A few days ago a mother in Sydney witnessed an automobile crush the skull of her kindergarten child, a a few years old son, whom she then locked in her arms as his blood soaked her clothes. But that is merely the oncoming of precisely what is into the future because each year generally there is one tragedy after another and families everywhere are hurt by them.
