Wherever I wander, wherever I rove; the hills of the highland for ever I love.
Robert Burns
HM King Charles III has a love and respect for tartan. The King regularly can be seen in Scotland wearing his kilt collection, including Hunting Stewart, Balmoral and until recently the Rothesay tartan.
The Rothesay tartan technically belongs to the Duke of Rothesay which is a dynastic title of the heir apparent to the British throne (David Stewart, son of Robert III, became the first Duke of Rothesay in 1398 and was heir apparent to the throne of the Kingdom of Scotland). Between the Union of the Crowns in 1603 and Edward VIII’s time as heir apparent (1910 to 1936), the the style Duke of Rothesay was informally dropped out in favour of Prince of Wales, the premier British title for the eldest son.
Prince William is now the Duke of Rothesay when Charles ascended to the throne.

Hello CC!
I’m a little disappointed that Charles didn’t thought of giving Catherine the order of the Thistle with her connection to Scotland and the fact she is the Duchess of Rothesay now. There’s also the order of St Michael and St John that is higher than the RVO she already has but not so high as the Thistle.
Would you like this topic as a reading?
Is Charles planning on making her replace the Duke of Kent as Grand Master for the order as StM and St John? (Last week the DoKent handed down the role of Colonel of the Scots Guards Regiment to Edward, so I think he is going to retire this year or the next). Is he going to give her a higher honour next year or is he going to wait until Catherine’s 45 to give her an upper order?
I’m also wondering if Charlie boy is planning on marking Harry’s 40th birthday with an honour 🫣 I hope he isn’t planning the Garter or another order, because Harry getting it and not Sophie or Catherine would be a very ungrateful and major bad move, after he spent the last 4 year trashing the royal family and moking the monarchy, while S and C have always been loyal.

Hi Nonny,
I am reserved about the honour that was given to The Princess of Wales. It just doesn’t feel right to me. Prince William being appointed the Grand Master of the Order of the Bath was something that I expected to happen sometime in the next few years, but I also expected a more ‘royal’ order for Catherine. I was expecting an Order that was in between was she has and the Thistle and the Garter, and something that is usually given to royalty. I am pleased that her contribution to Great Britain was noticed, but at the same time I also feel that it was a case of “an order for commoners because you are a commoner”. I need to do a reading on why The King gave her that order as I am in two minds about it.
I can certainly read on whether The King plans to make The Princess of Wales the Grand Master of the Order of St Micheal and St John, and whether he will give her a higher order in the future.
It is sad to see the Duke of Kent go but he has served long and faithfully and thoroughly deserves to retire. I think he will retire from royal duties in the next few years as well.
I would be very surprised if Harry received another honour while he was outside the royal family. If nothing else, the public backlash should be enough to stop any ideas about that before they happen.
