People try to shut down criticism of Cassian by saying "Just let Nesta be happy!" Does she look happy?

Rhysand loomed like a roiling storm in the center of the room. Even the fire seemed to cringe from him. Nesta stood a few feet away, blue-gray eyes wary - no hint of that silver flame. She clenched her hands, but her face was nearly vacant. The handsome, broad-shouldered male at her side was thin-lipped with concern - or anger. Maybe both.

"And where is she going now?" Azriel asked with soft venom. "Now that she has the Mask" - a withering glare at Nesta, whose face was carefully blank - "where is Bryce going?"

Nesta's mate shifted an inch closer to her, his eyes darting between the two of them, torn. Like he didn't know who to side with in the brewing fight. "I'm fine, Cassian," Nesta muttered.

"In a way," Nesta said, waving a slender hand. "It reports to me. This is my home." She sounded thin, brittle. After the verbal lashing she'd taken in the stud...

Nesta had that look, too. Like she was processing a lot of things.

Ember and Randall had just sat down for breakfast in the dining room - guided there by a silent Azriel - when Rhysand landed on the veranda beyond the glass doors. His vast wings were like storm clouds in the morning light. A heartbeat later, Cassian landed, Nesta in his arms. Both looking stone-faced. Pissed.

Rhysand snarled something that had Nesta's shoulders tensing, her head bowing.

"Don't worry," Nesta said, even if that bruised look lingered in her eyes. "My sister- Rhys's mate - gave him that exact same lecture twenty minutes ago."

The pain in her eyes - the guilt - seemed to deepen. "Cassian's the most furious with me of anyone." A muscle ticked in her jaw. Like she was holding back a giant wave of raw emotion. Only a wall of steel kept it at bay.

HOFAS made it clear that Nesta is not in a good place. Nessian is not in a good place. It's okay to acknowledge that and still ship them. Personally, I think this will be used to fuel Nesta's story arc in ACOTAR 5. Hopefully next book will contain a Cassian redemption, where he steps up and puts his mate's protection and feelings before all else. And I do believe this will happen because I do believe that Nesta and Cassian will end up in the Dusk Court, not the Night Court. I do think he'll choose her, but he may need to lose her for a time before he understands that he has to make that choice.

Me seeing people fighting to decide who would be the ruler of the dusk court when sjm purposely wrote that said court being ruled by Rhys' ancestors, placing that said court in his territory and having that said court literally connected to his blood:

I thought is was obvious that sjm was planning the high king and high queen plot for Feysand since the first time this topic was mentioned? You know, the most powerful high lord of prythian? The woman who is connected with the seven courts, have all the seven high lords powers? The fmc and mmc of the acotar saga?

Anyway...

like what was she supposed to do? wait for rhysand to tell her she can do it? because if we imply yalls logic that she endangered the world by her decision, she should have asked every being in that world right?

maybe it wasn't her decision to make, but for sure it wasn't rhysands or ic's... trove answers to her so i would argue she has the most authority to decide

anyways it would be ten times better if bryce actually asked her to go fight😩 bryce saw that nesta is capable of killing asteri, so why wouldn't she ask her to join? from what was established about bryce in this book, it's perfectly in character for her. but whatever ig

after this because it was already a similar concept

tw doll whump (as in human dolls), dehumanisation, death threat, noncon drugging, lady whumper, stress position

Dusk was doing his best and more as he forced his body to stay still. It was like fighting against the instinct to rub his elbow that he’d just banged against a corner, or to open-mouth pant if the bite of food had been too hot. It was like allowing someone to set him on fire and then just standing there, instead of dropping to the floor to roll around and at least attempt to put it out. He couldn’t stop the tears from flowing, but that didn’t seem to bother Grace as she pulled on the rope even more, raising Dusk’s arms further behind his back.

“I think I’m being very generous. Just a couple hours.” 

Dusk swallowed the insults, trying to focus on his breathing instead. Was she really going to leave him there for several hours? In this godforsaken pose? With the drug eating through his system? 

“If I don’t hear a noise from you until then,” she said with a smile, “I’ll let you have it.”

The antidote. 

There was no fucking way he could stay still and quiet for hours. There was no way. “Grace, please–”

“Oh? Already? I haven’t even started the timer yet, I can’t restart it for you.”

“Please, I can’t do it, Grace–”

She grabbed him by the hair, getting more annoyed than amused. “Well, give it a fucking try at least, won’t you?” Dusk’s terrified expression seemed to placate her, because the childish delight creeped back into her smile. “Otherwise, you know I really won’t give it to you! I’ll just watch you die a slow, painful death, strung up like a pig!”

Any other pleas he might’ve had caught in his throat at the threat. The chances of her exaggerating or bluffing were too low for him to risk it. He just snapped his mouth shut, trying to get accustomed to the internal burn of the drug and the external burn of his joints.

“Good,” she murmured, letting go of his hair to gently caress his cheek. “I’ll start the clock.”

I know thus far the books have only mentioned that Nesta's power is Pure Death, but I don't think that's true. I think her power is death and life.

She essentially stole the Dread Trove from the Asteri and then used the Mask - an object that they created - in their ultimate destruction. But Nesta also used the Dread Trove to save the lives of Feyre, Rhys, and Nyx. And Hunt used the Mask that Nesta lent them to save Bryce's life.

Nesta Made Ataraxia and was gifted Gwydion, both of which can kill the unkillable and were used to kill the Asteri, but Nesta also Made the House and the charm bracelets that helped her, Emerie, and Gwyn survive the Blood Rite.

The Bone Carver made it seem like Nesta was a being to fear, and I think that's true for beings like him, Lanthys, and the Asteri because they are unkillable beings that she can kill. But she is also connected to the Mother, she who brings life into the world. And I think in the next book, the Mother might use Nesta to fix the Cauldron, to take away the curse the Asteri put on it and make it a tool of creation - and only creation - once again. Maybe Nesta can find a way to make it not be the kill switch of Prythian. I think Nesta will also be able to put magic back into the land so it flows freely once again. She'll revive the Dusk Court, and bring back the pegasuses that once thrived there.

I don’t think the “Feyre only become High Lady and got her title from Rhysand” people realize that the Dusk Court, yeah the court y’all have been theorizing Nesta is going to rule, already belongs to Rhysand. So if your crack theories are true and Nesta does become High Lady of that court that would mean Rhys gave it to her. He would have handed her that land to rule over because it already belongs to him.

Nesta would literally only get her High Lady title because of him. Either she doesn’t become High Lady (which is likely the case because let’s be real for a second Sjm is not making Cassian a High Lord and she’s not splitting Nessian up either), or she does become High Lady of Dusk and her fans have to cope with the fact that there’s another thing she only has because Rhys was kind enough to grant it her.

Either way I’m going to laugh.

so we all agree that Nesta is gonna become the HL of Dusk Court next book and Feyre is gonna be the High Queen by the end of the series right?

my evidence on Nesta being HL:

• her powers being death (powers of dawn are centered around life)

• more powerful than regular High fae (characteristics associated with HLs in Prythian)

• bryce giving the dagger and sword SPECIFICALLY to Nesta

• her bargain with cauldron gave her tattoo which is symbol of the dusk court (totally coincidence, not Nesta being chosen by the literal embodiment of the world and it's magic to be the new HL)

• she's very intertwined with prison (only other character who could we cay the same thing about is Feyre but even then in her visits Nesta is mentioned more than once)

• brought feyre and nyx back to life (feat we've only seen HLs do)

• probably more so lmk if you have anything

my evidence on Feyre becoming HQ:

• has powers of all the HLs

• her being brought back to life the first time was very interesting because the HLs gave her a kernel of their powers willingly (almost like tithe hmmm probably a total coincidence)

• heavily intertwined with the Middle and UTM (which was the land and seat of the ancient HKs but probably a total coincidence)

• significantly stronger than regular High Fae (rh*s comments on it at the beginning of ACOMAF)

and you're probably thinking 'well it's been four books since her revival why didn't she become the HQ already?' and thank you for wondering that because let me explain.

the first time she was brought back to life it was by the 7 of current HLs but as we know that's not all the HLs because dusk court was at that time nonexistent essentially. so the world as a whole was out of balance and she literally didn't meet all the requirements to become HQ.

but the second time she was brought back to life it was done by Nesta and her powers. the last missing piece of the puzzle for feyre to become HQ. so i can see her in the next book dealing with major power amplification etc.

her becoming HQ makes thematically more sense and i will die on this hill. and no rhysand won't be HK sorry to break it to some of yall but he doesn't meet the requirements and him becoming HK would disrupt the world balance once again because there would be power vacuum in night court. now will nyx be the next HK after feyre? debe table, we will be able to tell more after the next book.
