ok wait someone said a bit ago (i have long lost track of who where and when) that they thought oscar got super difficult a-levels (math, cs, & physics) in part bc of covid (bc they just put your predicted grade as your grade, iirc, and exams line up real funky with racing normally making it super difficult to do them. or something along those lines). but he's almost exactly my age and covid interrupted my first year of university, rather than my last year of high school? so that didn't make sense to me, and at first i thought oh maybe in the uk ages/birthdays line up differently, who knows, i am but a silly american. BUT this says he finished school in 2019.
so he got those a-levels like. regularly. no covid mess or anything, just sheer will power and ~30% attendance. much to think about!

I know Wammy's House being an orphanage is mainly a cover for Watari's gifted children program but can you imagine how foul it is that none of these children can get adopted even though they live IN AN ORPHANAGE. They're taken there at the youngest age possible, stripped of their previous identities, taught everything they need to know to try and surpass or support L, turned into agents and then usually killed in action before/during their 20s. There's no way Watari would ever allow regular families to adopt any of his prized geniuses when the whole point of the program is that they need to have no ties and be able and willing to sacrifice themselves (<-in various meanings) to save the world. Watari was in shambles even just talking about how "overdeveloped talent can sometimes transcend the will of its nurturer" when K left Wammy's of his own volition instead of staying and doing what Watari wanted him to, ain't no way he'd further up the chances of disobedience by allowing normal people to take these children in & care for them or show them what a loving home's really like

ok this is less of a problem w sangf.ielle than it is me just being me but it took me a hot minute to get into the whole thing of the shape trains being like sentient beings with intention and everything and it’s still kinda not my fave. my like gut check for train-based horror is more of a “technology created by us that we now cannot fully control” kind of thing
