The royal huntsman have sent a report, Your Grace. There's been a sighting of a white hart. The stag is "The King of the Kings wood," Your Grace. A regal portent for Prince Aegon's name day.
...
Before the dragons ruled over Westeros, the white hart was a symbol of royalty in these lands.
And on this day of all days. I've never been one for signs and portents, Your Grace, but if the gods did wish to show their favor.
...
I had this forged in the Golden Gallery in honor of Prince Aegon. [...] I hope it might provide the killing stroke against your white hart. The King of the Kings wood. It's as if the Seven themselves have blessed this day.
...
The huntsman has the trail, Your Grace, and has sent out the hounds. It won't be long now until the white hart is cornered. Your prize is within reach.
—House of the Dragon - S1 E3 "Second of his Name"
...
A white hart had been sighted in the kingswood, and Lord Renly and Ser Barristan had joined the king to hunt it, along with Prince Joffrey, Sandor Clegane, Balon Swann, and half the court. So Ned must needs sit the Iron Throne in his absence.
—A Game of Thrones - Eddard XI
...
“I had a dream that Joffrey would be the one to take the white hart,” she said. It had been more of a wish, actually, but it sounded better to call it a dream. Everyone knew that dreams were prophetic. White harts were supposed to be very rare and magical, and in her heart she knew her gallant prince was worthier than his drunken father.
“A dream? Truly? Did Prince Joffrey just go up to it and touch it with his bare hand and do it no harm?”
“No,” Sansa said. “He shot it with a golden arrow and brought it back for me.” In the songs, the knights never killed magical beasts, they just went up to them and touched them and did them no harm, but she knew Joffrey liked hunting, especially the killing part. Only animals, though. Sansa was certain her prince had no part in murdering Jory and those other poor men; that had been his wicked uncle, the Kingslayer. She knew her father was still angry about that, but it wasn’t fair to blame Joff. That would be like blaming her for something that Arya had done.
—A Game of Thrones - Sansa III
...
They found the white hart, it seems… or rather, what remained of it. Some wolves found it first, and left His Grace scarcely more than a hoof and a horn. Robert was in a fury, until he heard talk of some monstrous boar deeper in the forest. Then nothing would do but he must have it.
—A Game of Thrones - Eddard XII

Some thoughts about Winter, Cinder and parent figures in RWBY
You know, Brawl in the Family (V3:E3) is a great introduction for Winter’s character. We’re basically immediately told that Winter, despite otherwise contrary overtures, loves her sister and cares about her emotional wellbeing, and also needs to rebel against a patriarchal figure for the future of her character arc (but is reined in by Ironwood, the patriarch she turned to after her father).
Qrow’s the perfect character for this. He’s paternal, but he’s also not a rulemaker, in fact the very opposite - and is the cool uncle. He’s ‘safe’ for Winter to rebel against (and signal the future of her arc), because he is opposing Atlesian measures (which is why I love when he’s paired up with Robyn in V8). Of course, their fight is also cut short by Ironwood, which to me is structurally quite clear that Ironwood is part of what’s keeping Winter in arrested development. (This is like... just symbolism - I’m not saying Winter is ‘childish’, but she did trade one abusive father figure for another, much like Cinder - and transition from child/teenagedom into adulthood - indeed, Maidenhood - is just metaphorically portrayed here, like, spiritual/personal growth, and generational inheritance).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also, I like how Winter is kind of play-acting parental kind of telling-off - ‘if you won’t hold your tongue, then I’ll gladly remove it for you!’ like okay. She’s really enjoying picking a fight, lol.
Anyway, I just like how clever that is, because Cinder and Raven’s fight mirrors this in Volume 5 (where Raven is also ironically ‘mothering’ her, and also demonstrating use of the Maiden powers) - Raven and Qrow are both safe parental figures for Cinder and Winter to rebel against, because they cannot yet do so against Salem and Ironwood (both figures they swapped out allegiance to after breaking free from their abusive step-mother and father, respectively).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And Cinder also gets to be similarly mouthy with her when challenged about the Grimm arm, and there’s even that shot where Cinder is on her knees (which we know she’s forced to be with her step-mother and Salem) and talks back at Raven:
Tumblr media
which honestly, is a great demonstration of how conflict can be healthy! Basically, I’m trying to demonstrate that conflict and rebellion is actually necessary, but it had been disallowed in their character arcs.
There are also two other really great points about this fight:
1. Raven teaches Cinder a lesson (always watch her back) and also reminds her to be clever (which we know Cinder to be, but she’s relearning that she is, and she’s also persistently undermined by others around her), but Cinder is also teaching Raven a lesson (how to mother... kind of).
2. It’s a collision of Knowledge and Choice, if the theory that Raven knows what happened to Summer (and Summer is a Grimm) is true - it might explain Raven’s relative lack of surprise, too - and I don’t think Cinder was exactly fully consenting of the Grimm arm. So, Raven is immobilised by Knowledge (Spring Maiden, guardian of Knowledge), and Cinder is immobilised by Choice without full Knowledge (what will happen to her with the Grimm arm).
Actually, this first lesson? This happens to Winter, too. Qrow spots Ironwood coming, and lets Winter reap the consequences and learn from them:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Elegantly, we see this lesson reprised in Volume 8. Marrow isn’t watching his back: Winter is.
Tumblr media
So, she is able to save somebody she’s framed as being older than (first Specialist we’re introduced to, outranking them) from the patriarch’s cruelty. This is, in a way, something she was not able to do with Weiss (and something Willow couldn’t do), and honestly - that is not an indictment on her character, but I think for her own personal feelings it can be redeeming. Additionally, this is also the volume where Willow’s complicated relationship with her children is further explored, and mother and son are able to save the girls from the Hound (who is also symbolically connected to Ruby’s mother - basically, love, and contextually, parental love, as well as ‘facing the truth’ - especially after Ruby’s silver eyes reveals the Hound is a person - can be salvific).
(As an additional note - I think Ironwood’s killing of Jacques is really effective for portraying what he’s become, that is, he essentially destroys Weiss’ opportunity for kindness towards her father, not forgiveness, but a kindness, before his confrontation once again with Winter. He denies both a rebellion and a reconciliation.
Oh, and also actually - Penny saving Winter from Ironwood is beautiful as a representation for the way communal bonds can be powerfully freeing. Penny’s new role as Creator literally helps Winter rebirth herself through a matriarchal (Maiden) figure).
Anyway, Ironwood can’t handle somebody challenging him, but challenge and conflict is GOOD. Marrow’s sense of morality is good. And there’s this wonderful chain of causal effect, that Winter’s fight with Qrow eventually culminates in this: saving Marrow’s life, and subsequently, the rest of V8 which follows, saving Atlesian and Mantle citizens.
In a similar way, at her own pace, Cinder shirks off Watts’ false parenthood by killing him, and tricking him with her cleverness and stroking his ego.
I actually push back against Watts as an actual parental figure the way Qrow or Raven are stand-ins, or if he is, he’s not teaching a lesson, so much as reinstating Cinder’s complex about Atlas elite. In a similar way that Tyrian is mimicking Mercury’s father (and because Mercury is symbolically part Cinder’s inner child, Cinder’s abusive step-mother), Watts is also a false parent. By contrast, Hazel parentally sacrifices himself for Emerald (and, indeed, Oscar, emphasising his own humanity and the way he’s grown this volume), which is part of why Emerald is able to free herself from Salem, and move on from her own arrested development (seeking parent figures) and begin her new path figuring out things for herself.
The key difference with Watts is that he’s lecturing her. It’s not actually a lesson she can learn from: he’s lecturing her and he likes the sound of his own voice, and really, his lesson is about himself and his own overdeveloped ego.
Tumblr media
I know this was considered a funny line, (’if only somebody had warned you...’), but the key here is that this is not how you parent children (children/teenagers respond to consequences and positive modelling... and maybe a swordfight?). I think this is also key to understanding why Cinder’s redemption arc is more protracted than Winter’s, though they do reflect one another.
So, anyway, later on, I do really like that when Winter finally turns against Ironwood when he’s gone too far, Qrow is with Robyn, there to assist. You have to free yourself from restrictive parental authority and learn the ropes, but there can still be paternal figures there to support you.
This, I think, is also why V6 especially focuses on moving beyond parental figures and receiving support instead of direction (setting up V7/V8 theming, as well as Cinder’s backstory). Ruby can do this in a gentler way with Qrow, and obviously receives guidance from Maria, but she also figures out how to be clever on her own - literally removing the other voices in her ear telling her what to do:
Tumblr media
However, it is also the memory - (’I’ll be part of you’) - of Ruby’s mother that finally helps her use her Silver Eyes (basically igniting her soul). So, there is a reconciliation of parental themes here: Ruby rebels against Qrow and Oz’s direction, but the memory and love of her mother also guides her.
Tumblr media
It’s about balance. Also, this sequence makes me cry every time. It’s so beautiful. (However, I’ll also note here that Ruby still needs to reckon with her mother - as we learnt in V8, so this isn’t over yet, and neither is Cinder’s arc. So, I think that whilst Winter and Cinder’s arcs closely mirror one another, the length of Cinder and Ruby’s arcs with their mother figures will be the ones structurally most related - especially as Cinder, or, Rhodopis like in Herodotus’ Cinderella (literally ‘rose-faced’) is the villain protagonist to Ruby’s heroine).
Anyway! I really love what Winter vs. Qrow and Cinder vs. Raven represent structurally (especially for the latter re: Yang, because Raven is like ‘learning to mother’ through these final few episodes of V5, it’s very good). I think we can also tentatively say that in a similar way to Qrow assisting Winter in V8, Raven may play a similar role in Cinder’s future arc, for the better.
I enjoy the intergenerational themes in the show a lot, so this is a lot of fun for me to think about, and really in my opinion - this applies to nearly every single character in the show, because this is such a big deal. It’s even present in the cosmic relationship of Salem vs. Gods of Creation and Destruction, who are both patriarchal, condescending figures. I can’t really go into that right now, but it’s definitely food for thought!
I would say though, in summary, these interactions and relationships are the show’s broader themes writ small.

Dean Winchester x Reader
Words: 3497
The Deal S2 E3: Series Masterlist
Summary: Another shocking reveal rocks the Winchesters and the reader battles with what Lavina told her. Everything seems like it’s supposed to be until the darkness takes over her.
Notes: I experimented a bit with this one, so I hope you guys like it. Also, I have officially laid out the rest of this series, so I hope you are as excited as I am! Keep letting me know what you think!
Warnings: Plenty of angst, some sexual content (I don’t know if it counts as 18+, but it’s there, so ye have been warned) Mentions of suicide and torture.
-
The rage in his eyes was unmistakable. You’d only ever seen him give that look to a monster he was ready to kill. He didn’t know how right he was.
“Dean!” Sam boomed, putting his hand on his brother’s arm. Dean pushed him away aggressively.
“That’s not her, Sam.” He growled, taking a step towards you. The hatred in his voice made you flinch.
“She isn’t a shifter, Dean.” Jody tried to get in between you, but he kept getting closer. “She isn’t anything. I did every test.”
“Then you didn’t do it right, because Y/N is in hell!” He screamed, wishing that he could pull the trigger. But something inside him was stopping his hands from moving. “She’s in hell.”
“I was in hell.” You said slowly. “For a long time. But somebody pulled me out. She brought me back.”
“Amara.” Sam blurted, his eyes darting between you and his brother. “Dean, she brought mom back, she could have brought Y/N back, too.”
“Your mom, I saw her.” You tried to move closer, but Dean still had his gun up. “When that woman pulled me out, I saw Mary, but only for a second. And then it was just that woman and all of this... darkness. She said her name was Amara.”
Everyone was silent. Dean was frozen in place, weapon ready and mind reeling. Sam slowly walked towards you, finally able to get in between you and the gun. He looked down at you with tears welling in his eyes.
“It really is you.” He smiled and pulled you into his arms, lifting you off the ground.
“I missed you too, Sam.” You held onto him, partially to make sure he was real and partially because if you didn’t, you’d fall. You had almost forgotten how tall he was. Sam set you down, but kept his arms around you.
“I can’t believe this.” He grinned. He turned so that he was no longer in between you and his brother, who still hadn’t moved. You could tell from the look on his face that his mind was tearing itself to pieces trying to decide what to believe. You put a hand on his cheek and he didn’t jerk away. Just the touch of his skin lit up your body like wildfire.
“It’s really me, baby.” You smiled through your tears. “I’m here.”
Dean didn’t realize he had lowered his arm until he was tucking his pistol into his waistband. He covered your hand with his and he just knew. He knew that it was you.
“I…” He wanted to say so much, but he didn’t know how to say it. So instead he just crashed his lips into yours. You had been dreaming of this moment for centuries in hell and now it was really happening. He was here, holding you, kissing you, keeping the darkness of the world away. This wasn’t one of Lavina’s tricks. It was real.
-
Jody insisted that the boys stay for dinner. Sitting there- Dean’s hand on your knee, Sam’s laughter in the air, Jody’s cooking piled on your plate- it felt like nothing had happened. You felt like you again. After a few hours of eating and catching up, the boys decided it was time to get back to the bunker. To take you home.
Sam let you ride shotgun. Dean even let you pick the music. They still just couldn’t believe you were back. Dean was worried that you would vanish any second, his hand keeping a tight grip on yours.
“Oh yeah! Alright! Take it easy baby. Make it last all night!” You sang, Sam and Dean being your back up singers.
“Make it last all night.” They echoed.
“She was an American Girl.” You couldn’t help but laugh as you belted every lyric. It took your mind back to that last night before the hound came. One last road trip, singing to Drift Away, and spending the night in Dean’s arms. It came flooding back like it happened yesterday. Every memory from your life seemed clearer now, having spent years locked in the back of your mind.
It wasn’t long before Sam had drifted off in the back seat and your eyes were growing heavier by the second. You had barely slept at all while you were staying with Jody and now the exhaustion of the past week was hitting you like a brick. Dean was quietly singing Still Rock and Roll to Me to himself when you finally fell asleep.
You’d been avoiding sleep because you were afraid of what nightmares would attack, but there was nothing. Everything was just dark and black and cold. And somehow that was so much worse.
-
By the time you woke up from the dark, Dean was pulling up in front of the bunker. You felt numb, like the darkness had seeped inside you and was gnawing at your bones. You entered the bunker without saying a word. Sam and Dean exchanging a look behind you.
“What happened?” Sam whispered. Dean shrugged.
“Nothing. She just fell asleep like you did. I imagine she’s pretty damn tired after rising from the dead.”
“Dean, we need to make sure she’s okay. I don’t even want to think about how long she was down there and-”
“Sammy…” Dean sighed, running a hand down his face. He looked at his brother with a hope that Sam hadn’t seen in him in a long time. “Y/N’s back. She’s really back, man, and I don’t want to screw that up again. I know she was in Hell for a long time and I know that’s gonna come with its own kind of baggage, but Sammy, I can carry it. If it means getting the woman I love back, then I will take on anything.” He let himself smile a little. “But can we just be happy. At least for tonight? Can we just celebrate that she’s here? Hell, that both her and Mom are back?”
Sam didn’t know what to say. He wanted to be happy, and he really was. He was overjoyed with the fact that you were back, but he also knew that all of those years of torment were still inside of you. They changed you and neither Dean or him could fix that. For now, he just nodded.
“You’re right. We should celebrate.” He pat Dean on the back as the two followed you inside.
While Dean and Sam went to the kitchen for some late night beers, you had made your way to Dean’s room; the one you once shared with him.
It looked the same, of course. While you were sure plenty had happened while you were gone, it was comforting that the bed and four walls were just as you had left them. One of the drawers in his desk was ajar and you caught a glimpse of something silver. Your hands were shaking as you took out your old picture box.
“He kept it.” You gasped, running your hand over the battered surface. You smiled as you looked inside, laughing when you picked up the picture of you and Sam with sharpie mustaches. It was odd to hear the sound of your own laugh again. It was so foreign and yet so natural at the same time. You tried to keep your tears from hitting the photographs as you continued to look through them.
“Hey,” Dean leaned against the doorframe, offering a beer in one hand and beckoning you towards him with the other. You put the box back in the drawer and gladly took the drink, feeling his arm snake behind you, pulling you closer. “How are you feeling? You seemed a little off in the car.”
“Oh I’m fine…” You tried to lie, but you knew he’d see right through it. “I don’t know, Dean. Everything feels so different and so similar all at once. I’m remembering all of these wonderful, amazing things that I blocked out a long time ago because they hurt too much to think about. But even with all of that, I still feel like there is something… wrong in me.”
“You were in hell, Y/N. That’s going to stay with you forever.” Dean sighed. You pushed away in frustration.
“But it's more than that.” You exclaimed. You grabbed his hand and placed it flat on your chest. “Don’t you feel that? Don’t you feel the dark that’s inside of me?” Dean’s eyes just stared into yours. The green eyes that were the one thing you held onto for 365 years. He shook his head.
“I only feel you, baby.”
You stared at each other for a long time, just taking in the other’s presence. You were the first to move forward, throwing your arms around his neck and pulling his lips to yours. This kiss was different than before. This wasn’t just a reunion kiss. This was needy and hungry and wanting. It was the kind of kiss that slowly unbuttoned your shirt and undid his belt. The kind of kiss that had you pushing him onto the bed and straddling his hips.
“Are you sure about this?” Dean suddenly asked, his fingers hovering over the clasp of your bra. “If you aren’t ready, I don’t want to-”
“Dean.” You interrupted, lifting his shirt over his head. “I have been waiting for this for 365 years. Just kiss me.”
“Yes ma’am.” He smirked, roughly pulling you back down to him.
Every touch sent a fire through you and every sigh against your skin burned, but it was a beautiful kind of pain. A pain that chased away the numbing darkness that you’d felt in the car.
Dean sat up, his arms locked around you to hold you in place. There was nothing separating you now and your skin was pressed against his, lips still moving against each other. He broke away first, letting his lips travel down your neck to your chest. You let out a sigh, looking up at the ceiling as he moved his hips up into yours.
You felt everything, from the grip of his fingers to the growing heat inside of you. If there was truly darkness in you, then Dean was the spark that would light your way through it.
When you both felt that familiar relief, you fell onto the bed with Dean’s face still nuzzled against your neck.
“I’m never letting you go again, sweetheart.” He whispered, kissing a soft spot of skin. You pressed your lips to his forehead. Maybe he wouldn’t have a choice.
-
“There’s no worse company than yourself when you’ve become what you have.” Lavina circled around you, joined by big clouds of darkness. “You’re going to tear them apart and then it’ll be too late.” She tsked, shaking her head.
“She’s right, you know.” Cas emerged from the clouds, but you knew it wasn’t him. He grinned at you. “I’d cut and run while you still can. You know, before things get ugly.” A hand reached out from the dark and grabbed your ankle. It dragged you to him before you could scream. Lucifer stood over you and in his eyes, you could see it. His face. You didn’t scream this time, though. Instead you kicked his legs out from beneath him and pinned his shoulders down with your knees.
“You can’t hurt me anymore and I’m not going to let you hurt them either.” You snapped. A blade appeared in your hand and you put it to his throat. “I’m not afraid of you anymore.” Lucifer chuckled darkly.
“Well we both know that’s not true, Y/N… Y/N...Y/N…” As his lips repeated your name, the dark clouds closed in on you, taking away any feeling of anger or fear and leaving absolutely nothing. “Y/N… Y/N… Y/N…”
“Y/N!” Dean screamed, breaking you out of the black.
Your eyes shot open and you were frozen in place. Dean’s eyes stared up at you with horror, his heaving chest rocking you up and down. You were sitting on top of him, knees on his shoulders and a knife at his throat.
“No,” You gasped, watching blood drip onto the blade.
“Sweetheart, put the knife down.” Dean said calmly. You dropped it onto the pillow and crawled off of him.
“Oh my god, she was right.” You cried, putting a hand over your mouth to keep yourself from screaming. “I’m so sorry.” Stumbling backwards, you grabbed the first article of clothing you could find. You slipped your arms into Dean’s flannel and slowly backed away from him. Dean moved cautiously, slowly getting out of the bed and walking towards you.
“It’s okay. Just calm down. Everything is going to be fine.” He soothed. You shook your head and kept moving towards the door, walking faster now. “Y/N wait!” He yelled after you as you took off. “Damnitt.” Dean grabbed his jeans and hurried after you.
First you ran into the bathroom and ran cold water over your face. You shouldn’t have looked in the mirror. All you could see were your black eyes.
Your shrieks of terror rang through the whole bunker, waking up both Sam and Mary.
“Y/N!” Dean yelled again, spotting you sprinting down the hallway. “Wait! Baby, stop! We can talk about this! Stop running!”
“I’m a monster. I’m a monster. I’m a monster.” You kept repeating to yourself until you finally found the place you belonged.
You slammed the door to the dungeon behind you, sliding a shelf in front of the door so no one could get in. Dean tried to open the door, but it wouldn’t budge.
“What’s going on?” Sam asked, running to join his brother. “What happened to your neck?”
“It’s Y/N. She’s locked herself inside.” Dean put his hand against the metal. “Y/N, open the door, baby, please.”
“Get away from me!” You screamed. “I’m one of them! I’m a monster!”
“Sweetheart, you’re not a monster, just opened the door.”
“Damn it Y/N. Open the door!”
Dean winced, his mind taking him back to that night. Why did it feel like it was all happening again?
“I shouldn’t have come back. Amara should have left me down there.” You cried, sliding to the floor, pressing your back against the wall and bringing your knees up to your chest. “I shouldn’t be here. I’m one of them. I’m a demon.”
“Y/N, open up and we can talk about this.” Sam called through the metal.
“What’s going on?” Mary wondered. She was taken aback by the scene in front of her. Sam and Dean had their ears pressed against the door and Dean was only wearing a pair of jeans. She had been asleep when the boys and you got back, so she was completely in the dark.
“Y/N’s back and something happened with her and Dean and now she’s locked herself in the dungeon.” Sam sighed. “I’ll explain later.”
“Baby, please come out.” Dean begged.
“Let me talk to her.” The three Winchesters turned to the new voice, surprised to find Castiel standing there.
“Cas, what are you-”
“I came because I heard about a soul breaking out of hell and I thought it could be…” His voice trailed off. “Maybe I can try talking to her.”
Dean thought for a second, but figured there couldn’t be any harm in him trying. You and Cas had a different bond than you had with Dean or Sam.
Cas took in everything in front of him and couldn’t help but compare it to that night. You, shutting yourself out from everything while Dean and Sam desperately tried to reach you. Only, Cas wasn’t going to turn his back this time.
“Baby, please.” Dean begged, his voice quieter than it was before. You didn’t listen. Instead, you were rummaging through the cabinet, looking for a very specific blade.
“Y/N.” A new voice made you freeze. Putting as much distance between you and the door, you sank to your knees.
“Stay away from me!” You screamed. “Stay away! I’m not afraid of you anymore!”
“The hell is she talking about?” Dean asked, barely able to make out your words through the door.
“She’s talking about me.” Cas sighed. “More specifically, she’s talking about Lucifer.”
“What?” Sam visibly tensed and Mary’s confusion only deepened.
“What are you all talking about? Like, the Devil, Lucifer?”
“Yeah, like the Devil.” Dean ran a hand down his face. “Cas, you never mentioned anything about Lucifer taking your body for a joy ride to see Y/N.”
“I know, I couldn’t…” Cas inhaled deeply. “I couldn’t bring myself to tell you.” Dean grabbed him by the collar and shoved him against the wall, his voice lowering to a deep growl.
“What. Did. He. Do?”
“Dean, whatever happened wasn’t Cas’ fault.” Sam exclaimed.
“Yeah, but he knew about it.” He snarled. “What did he do to her?” Cas just looked at him with sad, guilty eyes.
“The worst things he could think of.” He said and Dean let him go, running his fingers through his hair. “Any possible way to torment her, he used it. He showed her you, impaled by Metatron and turned into a demon. He made her watch it over and over again for decades to remind her that everything she did was for nothing. That broke her more than any other torture, which he was also very keen on.”
“Okay, we get the picture.” Sam closed his eyes. He remembered vividly exactly what Lucifer was capable of and felt a deep weight settle in his chest. Dean’s eyes were still locked on Cas, but they were unfocused. Sam knew he was picturing every cut and every slice to your flesh.
A loud clatter from behind the door brought them all back to the moment. Dean released his grip and Cas and pressed his ear against the door. It was silent. A sudden panic flooded his system and he turned to Sam with wide eyes.
“Is the demon-killing knife in there?” Sam started to shake his head, but stopped suddenly, understanding what his brother was asking. A new surge of panic rushed through both of them.
“No, but there’s an angel blade.”
Now Sam and Dean were frantic, trying to get through the door before it was too late.  Cas put a hand on Dean’s shoulder.
“Let me.” He said. The two stepped to the side and Cas laid his palm against the door. There was a loud thud and a surprised cry from inside.
The three men burst into the room, Mary close behind. Your wild, frightened eyes scanned the intruders, landing on Cas. Your hands gripped the angel blade tightly, hovering its point over your heart.
“Stay away.” You warned, but your voice betrayed your fear.
“Y/N, don’t.” Dean stepped towards you, but Cas put a hand out to stop him. The angel walked towards you slowly and you pressed your back into the wall, trying to get away from him.
“Get away from me. Y-You can’t hurt me anymore.”
“Y/N, Lucifer is gone.” He said cautiously. “None of us want to hurt you.”
“It doesn’t matter. I’m going to hurt you if you don’t let me kill this thing.”
“Y/N, put the angel blade down. We can help you.” Sam pleaded. Dean was ready to charge you and take the blade by force, but Cas kept inching closer and closer to you until he was crouching in front of you.
“I know you think that there is no saving you. That you have become so dark and corrupted that you are undeserving of life, but it isn’t true. You are still you. Yes, you are broken. You have been beaten down and destroyed too many times to count, but you are here. If you give up now, then you let Lavina and Lucifer and every demon in hell win.” Cautiously, he put his hand on the end of the blade. “But if you stay and fight through this, if you show them what’s really inside of you, then you will defeat them.”
He stared at you with the eyes of a friend who didn’t want to lose you again. You felt him gently pull the angel blade from your trembling hands and pass it back to Sam. You slowly started to uncurl your body, stretching out your legs and arms so that you could pull Cas into a hug.
“It wasn’t your fault.” You whispered and you felt his arms tense, holding you just a little bit tighter. Cas wrapped his trench coat around you, noticing the goosebumps forming on your bare legs. You had forgotten that you were only wearing Dean’s flannel. He stepped back so Dean could scoop you up in his arms, tucking your head under his chin.
“Never do that again.” He whispered, kissing your temple with the desperate desire to never let go.

4, 6, 15, 17, 18, 19, 26, 31, 32.
ooh that is a very interesting selection of questions. Some will have very unsurprising answers from me but I hope you will enjoy :D
Thank you for the ask ! :D
4 - Which route did you play through first in FE3H?
Blue Lions / Azure Moon. When the E3 trailer dropped and revealed post-timeskip Dimitri design, I was all over it, and that is how I picked my house, basically !
Without the trailer... I may have picked Golden Deer / Verdant Wind ? Maybe.
6 - Which route is your favorite?
Blue Lions / Azure Moon. While there is a lot of gaps in terms of background Fodlan story, it is a very well-written character driven route, and while it made me curious to check out the other routes (in particular Crimson Flower, after that Holy Tomb reveal), it definitively was the one I, in the end, thought was the most enjoyable to go through.
The Dimitri-Edelgard conflict gets to shine, we get to discover Edelgard from the POV of someone who knows her very differently than we do, and Dimitri’s writing as a character might be rough at the edges, but he makes for a really compelling lord and has a compelling story, and I really love how the Lions felt like a tight knit group even with the conflicts and conflicting opinions they might have related to Dimitri. Good stuff !!
15 - If you are an artist or writer, are you currently working on any new FE3H content (art or fanfic)?  If so, will you share a sneak preview?
Ohhhh that is a lovely question ! I am indeed both an artist and a writer. My current FE3H WIP isn’t started, but sneak peak reveal : it will be an Immaculate One head in the style of the Mila and Duma heads I drew recently
For writing... the biggest project I’m currently working on is a fic about Rhea and Seteth, for the lovely Nabatean-centric zine Emerald Tears, but I have also picked up work on a piece called Fabula Acta Est, a... slightly horror piece inspired by the meta writing of Pathologic, involving Felix realizing he is part of a game, and how he deals with that.
Little sneak peak ...
The Professor talks to Dimitri once. Turns around, pauses, and turns back, and Dimitri repeats the exact same words, with the exact same tone, as if he has rehearsed for a role in a play.
When Byleth turns around once again, they catch his dizzy gaze, as cold as they always are. He is an insect under the lense of a researcher, tiny and fragile under the gaping void of their eyes.
“What do you see ?”
“... You, and the boar, and the hound”, he answers, but his voice wobbles, ebbs and flows without his consent.
“What do you hear ?
Nausea strangles his throat.
17 - Rank the Black Eagles from your favorite to least favorite.
1 - Linhardt ; 2 - Ferdinand ; 3 - Dorothea ; 4 - Petra ; 5 - Hubert ; 6 - Caspar ; 7 - Bernadetta ; 8 - Edelgard
18 - Rank the Blue Lions from your favorite to least favorite.
1 - Felix ; 2 - Dimitri ; 3 - Annette ; 4 - Ashe ; 5 - Dedue ; 6 - Mercedes ; 7 - Ingrid ; 8 - Sylvain
19 - Rank the Golden Deer from your favorite to least favorite.
1 - Lorenz ; 2 - Lysithea ; 3 - Ignatz ; 4 - Claude ; 6 - Marianne ; 7 - Raphael ; 8 - Leonie
26 - Who is your overall favorite character?
Ah crap that is a hard question. It’s a toss-up between Rhea, Gilbert, Dimitri and Felix, I would say ? They are the four characters I love to think about, write about, and that I just enjoy the most out of the cast, but I don’t think I can exactly determine which one is above all the others in this selection >_<;
31 - What is your favorite pre-timeskip character design or outfit?
If we count characters who don’t change their designs between pre and post timeskip : Rhea. Her design is stunning, and amazingly hard to draw because of its amount of details, but I love how majestic she looks.
If we don’t count them, and just count people who have pre and post timeskip designs : Mercedes ! I love Mercedes post-timeskip design too, but I love how she stands up in terms of design pre-timeskip. She looks really cute with that little shawl, too, and just lovely overall/
32 - What is your favorite post-timeskip character design or outfit?
Toss-up between Felix and Ingrid, honestly ?
Ingrid is a very refreshing take on the pegasus knight design. She works so well, all while reminding me of the designs of characters like Fiora, Sigrun, Catria... She aesthetically fits both into “pegasus knight” and “Faerghus” and it is so, so, so good
Felix has a bit of a weird thing going on, but I just love it so much. Bishop sleeves ? Assymetrical cut ? The fact that his colours are more saturated than the rest of the Faerghus character, while sticking to the same palette, putting him as slightly different and yet fitting with his house ? (chef kisses) It is so good.
(Honourable mention to Lorenz and his glow-up, I am in love)

Words and Chess
[Little Witch Academia, Diana and Andrew friendship]
Diana and Andrew simultaneously play a game of chess and a word game.
-----------
I have really bad writers block (sry ppl expecting something else lol) so I wanted to write this little thing for fun. No post on ffnet cause its more of a short brain candy oneshot and we’ll just see how it does here. Their game of chess is literally from googling ‘best chess game of all time’ but I cant link it because then my post will get deleted for some reason as well as trying to tag it as my work so...
BTW ITS NOT IMPORTANT IF YOU KNOW HOW TO PLAY CHESS OR NOT because I sure don't n honestly don't care whats going on during it
------------
“Ambitious.”
Delicate pale fingers picked up the first white pawn piece, moving it from its starting position of E2 to E4. Diana confidently smiled at her competitor, sitting back in her chair as she picked up her teacup and its accommodating saucer and took a sip. The simple game of chess had begun.
Andrew hummed at the move with interest, as if already predicting the outcome in his head. There was no hesitance as his hand grabbed the black pawn at D7 and moved it simply a space forward to D6. He, too, haughtily grabbed his own teacup with pride and a small smirk, answering back without missing a beat,
“Baffling.”
Diana nodded knowingly, placing her teacup down to move a pawn in D2 up to D4. Her finger traced against the tip of the pawn in thought despite her chess move having been finalized. She decided on her answer from the many to choose from, and responded,
“Courageous.”
A light spring breeze weaved its way through their hair, and the two of them relaxed at the scent of the nearby field of flowers and their steamed cups of tea. They sat in a similar manner, perhaps in intimidation to match their already bold confidence. Being the first of the two, Andrew took his knight piece at G8 and placed it onto F6.
“Determined.”
Diana paused at the move, taking another sip from her cup as she took her similar knight piece at B1, and matched the movement to C3.
“Energetic.”
“...Fiery?” Black pawn at G7 to G6.
“Genuine.” Diana boldly took her bishop from C1 to E3.
Andrew leaned forward for a better look at the board, finishing his first cup of tea for the game and placing it down along with its saucer to the table. He rubbed his chin in thought, carefully taking his own bishop from F8 and safely moving it to G7.
“Hassle…” He said with a shake of his head and an exhausted sigh.
Diana stifled a laugh as if she understood, pouring him a fresh new cup from the teapot to their side. She held onto her chin as she stared at the board, then looked up to the sky in hopes for inspiration. Mouthing a few words to weigh her options, she held her Queen at D1 idly in the air and decided on her choice. Diana moved her Queen forward to D2 and ended her turn.
“Interesting.”
“Joyful.” Pawn at C7 to C6.
“Kindhearted.” Pawn at F2 to F3. Diana poured herself another cup of tea.
“Lively” Pawn at B7 to B5.
“Mischievous.” Knight at G1 to E2
“Nosy.” Knight at B8 to D7
Diana hummed, taking the last sip of her tea as her eyes calculated the game before them. She poured them both a new cup without ever taking away her focus from the board and picked up her Bishop at E3. Offering her full attention towards him, Diana moved her piece all the way up to H6, directly next to many of his pieces without breaking eye contact.
“Optimistic.” She picked back up her teacup, daring him to make the next move.
Andrew didn’t back down from the provocation, staring at her curiously as if to wonder her motives. Interested in her plan, he went along with it, picking up his Bishop directly diagonal to her recently placed one and moved it forward from G7 to H6, taking her piece.
“Peculiar.” He finished, satisfied as he held up the first lost piece of the game.
Momentarily, Diana looked troubled, but her attention was not at the board at all. She picked up her Queen at D2 without hesitance yet struggled to make her move despite the two aware of what exactly she needed to do. Perking up as if her thoughts had concluded, she moved her Queen to H6, taking the black Bishop that had taken her own.
“Quarrelsome.”
Andrew nodded at both her movement and her response.
“Radiant.” Bishop at C8 to B7.
“Surprising.” Pawn at A2 to A3.
“Teasable.” Pawn at E7 to E5.
“Unique.” Diana castled her Rook at A1 with her King at E1, moving them to D1 and C1 respectively.
“Valiant.” Andrew moved his Queen at D8 to E7.
Diana poured them both another cup of tea.
“Warmhearted.” King at C1 to B1.
Andrew scratched his head in frustration. He ignored the smirk in front of him, toying with the white bishop in his hand to help his thought process. Taking another drink to aid in his search, Andrew instead turned to the side where a large grassy field and a connecting hill laid, and suddenly came the answer he was looking for as he moved his Pawn at A7 to A6.
“Xenodochial.” He smugly smiled, holding his teacup in the air as if to toast before taking another sip.
Diana frowned at the word, staring at the chess board and the field in hopes for inspiration. She hadn’t expected Andrew to be able to move forward, but there was no surprise anyway as she picked up her Knight at E2 and moved it back towards herself at C1.
“Youthful…?”
Andrew sighed, placing his elbows onto his legs to rest his chin against his hands now folded together. He grabbed his Rook at A8 and his King at E8, castling them by moving the Rook to D8 and King to C8.
“Zealous.”
“Accepting.” Knight at C1 to B3.
“Bewitching.” Andrew grinned at the frown he earned in response, moving his Pawn at E5 to D4 and taking the white Pawn previously there.
“Charming.” Diana said sharply, moving her Rook at D1 to D4 to take the Pawn that had taken her piece. She poured them both another cup of tea.
“Dramatic…” Pawn from C6 to C5.
“Emotional…” Diana moved her Rook from D4 back to D1.
“Fearless.” Knight from D7 to B6.
“Goofy.” Pawn at G2 to G3.
They ignored the screaming in the background as the two pondered over the same chess board in front of them. Taking a sip from their own teacups at the same time as if the screaming wasn’t their business, the two focused on the two games they had been playing simultaneously.
“Hotheaded.” Andrew moved his King from C8 to B8.
When Diana picked up her Knight at B3, she was forced to stop as the screaming became even louder. Her and Andrew turned their heads to the side at the field, watching as Diana’s brown hounds ran past at impeccable speed with a pair of shoes in their mouth. What followed was the source of the loud disruption as Akko came rolling down the hill headfirst after tripping, her white socks now covered in grass and mud.
The two didn’t move as Akko tumbled down the hill until her face planted into the ground at the end, and she even slid about a foot forward from the force. And Akko just laid there as if she were unconscious while the dogs came running back to circle her in enjoyment. “HEY!” Akko burst up from the floor completely covered in dirt and bloody scrapes, struggling to get back up as the dogs tauntingly ran away with her shoes once more. “I PLAYED WITH YOU AND THIS IS HOW YOU TREAT ME?! COME BACK HERE!” She was back to chasing them, slipping some more in some mud as she tried.
Diana and Andrew took another sip of their drinks, and Diana placed her idle piece into A5.
“Idiot.”  They said in unison.
Diana raised an eyebrow at Andrew boredly finishing his tea, “It wasn’t your turn.” She sighed, gracefully standing up from her seat and patting herself off. “I assume you admit defeat?”
Andrew shrugged, moving his Bishop from B7 to A8. “Maybe for that game.”
Diana nodded, motioning him to pour himself a new cup of tea as she walked out into the field and called for her dogs who obediently obliged and dropped the shoes that were now covered in slobber. Akko caught up not a moment after, completely out of breath and falling to the floor in defeat.
Diana took out her wand and cleaned Akko up, cuts and all, and brought her back to the chess table and offered her own cup of tea.
“Hi guys…! Who’s… winning?” Akko plopped down into Diana’s seat and quickly gulped down the drink.
Diana moved her Bishop from F1 to H3.
“I am.” Her and Andrew responded, daring each other with their eyes as their competitive nature sparked.
-------------
You can pry Diana and Andrew friendship out of my cold dead hands. They would be the most chaotic aristocratic duo and would get along if only because of a certain someone. Also I love Diana’s dogs with all my heart.

Note
Hypothetically, if you started work on Pillars of Eternity 3 today, how long would you expect it to be before the public knew of its existence? I'm really curious if you've noticed a minimum amount of time required before you're confident a project will work and not be cancelled.
That really varies a lot from game to game, but to be clear, no game is actually immune to being canceled at any point for myriad reasons.  Though I doubt this would happen in the age of digital distribution, I do know of one game (not mine) from 15+ years ago that was canceled after going gold because the publisher believed they would lose more money from cost of goods / distribution.
I worked on The Black Hound for 2.5 years and it was canceled because Interplay lost most of its D&D publishing rights.  I worked on Aliens: Crucible for a little over 2 years (IIRC) and it was canceled because we weren’t making good progress on it.
Given that, I assume a project can be canceled at any time from conception through shipping.  Unless it’s something I’m working on as a personal project, I don’t decide if it lives or dies.  It’s not my decision to make.  Because of this, and because I’ve seen publishers leverage developers’ love for what they do against them, I always have a small amount of emotional distance from what I’m working on.  Maybe this makes me worse at making games, but how many times can you see devs’ passion get exploited in this industry before you start to take defensive measures?
Anyway, assuming a project isn’t cancelled, it’s rare that they are announced less than 6-9 months before they ship.  For obvious reasons, publishers want a game to make a big splash at E3 (typically) and other major trade shows, then have a planned buildup of PR and marketing toward the launch itself.
There are reasons why a game might be announced more than a year before it ships:
* A licensee may be contractually obligated to announce game in production or risk losing the license.* A publisher may know of a competitor game in the same genre/niche and they want to take the spotlight and make the competitor look like an imitator (whether it is or not).* A console manufacturer may want to make a big show of their stable of games, so they show every game in development for the platform even if they’re years out.* The publisher wants to “test the waters” by announcing a game that’s in a questionable state, then use the perceived reception to the announcement to either commit to finishing the game, change direction, or cancel it.* A developer has a regular presence at trade shows and their PR/marketing team think their brand will suffer if they don’t maintain that presence, so they may announce things prematurely.
BTW, I have seen all of these happen for the listed reason, either to games I’ve worked on or games that my friends in the industry have worked on.  I’m sure there are others.

Primordial, Timesus
Tumblr media
Image by Matias Tapia, © Wizards of the Coast.
[Commissioned by @justicegundam82. Timesus the Black Star was a primordial that appeared in the module E3: Prince of Undeath. It’s undead in that work because it’s been enslaved by Orcus in a bid to murder the Raven Queen (that wacky Orcus, always killing gods...). But keeping the flavor of an undeath-related elemental seemed cool, and I figured out how to tie that in with Pathfinder lore fairly organically. Of course, in settings without Pathfinder’s solar system, Timesus could have been born of any meteor impact and destruction of a planet.]
Primordial, Timesus CR 22 NE Outsider This massive creature has six limbs, three above and three below. Its lower three limbs end in elephantine feet, whereas its upper three limbs end in club-like appendages. It has no head, but a ghastly blue glow emanates from its core.
Deathshard, the Black Star NE Primordial Elemental Portfolio Catastrophe, meteorite impacts, the undead Domains Darkness, Death, Earth, Evil Subdomains Catastrophe*, Fear, Loss, Undeath Worshipers Doomsday cultists, astronomers, bone sages of Eox Minions guecubu, tzitzimitl, evil earth elementals Obedience crush a Tiny or larger living creature to death with thrown or dropped rocks. Gain a +2 profane bonus to Armor Class against ranged attacks. Boons 1: darkness 2/day; 2: enervation 2/day; 3: create undead 2/day *worshipers of Timesus can use the Catastrophe subdomain to modify the Earth domain
Timesus the Black Star was created in an ancient catastrophe. When the world of Eox destroyed its neighbors with a planet-killing superweapon, the blowback from the destruction of two planets resulted in a massive meteorite bombardment, the cracking of Eox all the way to the mantle, and the loss of the planet’s atmosphere. It also animated a fragment of Eox’s core as an elemental being, infused with negative energy and rage at the living. This is Timesus.
Timesus made its way to the Plane of Earth, where it was drafted by Ayrzul the Fossilized King to be his chief enforcer. This role suits Timesus just fine, as it lacks any ambitions beyond spreading death and destruction wherever it goes. Although it was born of the death of planets, Timesus is not so powerful as to accomplish such a task on its own—yet. Ayrzul keeps a close eye on his Deathshard, half hoping that the monster achieves its true potential, and half fearing this possibility. Timesus cares little for its worshipers, but is amused by their flattery and praise.
In combat, Timesus shapes the battlefield to its own liking by altering gravity on a whim. Creatures too close to Timesus are sucked into its aura, then blown away by its shockwave, beaten and battered against walls and floors. Timesus’ mastery of gravity is such that it can fly with ease, albeit not terribly quickly, and it pursues flying enemies above all others, striking them with ranged spells if they keep their distance. Timesus is rarely found alone on its missions of mayhem, being accompanied by tzitzimitls and evil earth elementals in the shape of mammoth hounds.
Timesus stands about sixty feet tall.

Shockwave (Su) Timesus may create a 120 foot cone as a standard action, dealing 15d6 points of bludgeoning damage and 15d6 points of force damage to all creatures within it (Fort DC 32 halves). Creatures that fail this save must succeed a DC 32 Reflex save or be pushed 1d4x10 feet away from Timesus and fall prone. Timesus can use this ability three times per day, but must wait 1d4 rounds between uses. The save DC is Constitution based. Starflight (Su) Timesus can survive in the void of outer space. It flies through space at an incredible speed. Although exact travel times vary, a trip within a single solar system should take 3d20 hours, while a trip beyond should take 3d20 days (or more, at the GM's discretion)—provided Timesus knows the way to its destination. Warp Space (Su) Timesus gains a deflection bonus to its Armor Class and CMD equal to its Charisma bonus, and has a 50% miss chance against all ranged attacks and spells. This cannot be dispelled, but is suppressed in the area of a dimensional lock spell, or if Timesus is subject to a dimensional anchor or similar effect.

Game of Thrones S8 E3
Okay so I've had some time to think about the episode and I think I finally have my thought together.....
1. I honestly thought that a lot more of the characters were going to die. That being said I'm not upset that people are still alive.
2. Lyanna Mormont was probably the most jarring death for me. I wasn't expecting it at all and it broke my heart. I'm so proud of her and all she did. Bella Ramsay was a great actress and I loved every scene she had. Anytime the 12 year old gets to shame the men is a good moment.
3. I really thought The Hound was gonna die just because we know he doesn't do well with fire. He did come around and help save Arya which was fantastic.
4. Discussing Arya. I'm glad they showed us a scene where she was terrified. We've never scene her in large fight scenes and I was excited to see how her demeanor changed when the odds were very much against her. The scene in the library had me on the edge of my seat. When her and The Red Woman and The Hound were together, I love the parallels to season one.
5. I was honestly surprised that everyone's assumptions about the dead coming to life in the crypts actually happened. I honestly thought a lot more people would die when that all went down.
6. Brienne and Jaime and Pod survived and I'm so happy but also shocked. I had them as a group and figured at least one of them would die. I really thought it would be Pod since he sang the song last ep.
7. Brienne and Jaime need to discuss some feelings next week. I used to be conflicted between a BriennexTormund pairing and a BriennexJaime pairing. Most of that came from a lack of direct interaction between B and T prior to S8. That being said, it is now very clear that B doesn't like T and should end up with Jaime somehow.
8. Jon fucking Snow!!! Okay so I've been a fan of my mans for a whiiiiillllleeeee. Always loved him like everyone else. Even when he started kind of siding with Dany, I still liked him. But dear lord I feel like he did nothing this episode. Like I'm not sure how long he sat on the wall on his dragon........but I feel like he should have just done laps burning the undead. Also lol he really thought he would just run up and get the drop on the NK. I love him I just think he wasn't very helpful overall. Maybe they didn't want it to be like the Jon show. We have had a lot of previous Jon versus Army of Dead encounters in previous season so I'm not super disappointed that this wasn't very Jon centered. I just think he could have done more.
9. Daenerys Targaryen: First of all I'm probably gonna get shit from the Dany-stans for this, but honestly I don't think she was very helpful. I guess it's not a crazy thing to think that dragon fire would kill the night king, but I also feel like she should have r ees realized that he wouldn't put himself in that situation if it would kill him that easily. I think people are correct when they say she held her own, but like Jon I don't think was very helpful on the large scale. Also the fact that the dragon couldn't fly away from the undead when she was on it but could easily fly away when she fell off doesn't make a lot of sense to me. I'm very on the fence with Dany right now. I feel like there are a lot of flaws in her character that don't make her fit to leader the entire country. Also Jorah died and he was a lot of her restrain. She would change her mind if he suggested things that she ignored when other advisors mentioned them.
10. My boy Theon. I figured he was gonna die because he was with Bran. I was okay with that because out of all of the major characters, I feel like he had come full circle. He went out just like the Stark/Greyjoy he was and I'm so proud of him.
11. Greyworm: It really looked like he was going to sacrifice himself to light the trench on fire. I was so scared. Missandei talked about going back to Naath and now goddamnit I need them to get there.
12. Gendry: now that I think about it, in glad that Gendry didn't get much screentime. It would have made it seem like he had a higher risk of dying. I'm excited for more Gendrya next week.
13. Arya killing the NK: I liked the fact that Arya did this because of the parallels to other scenes. I also agree with some people that it should have been someone else. But at the same time, I feel like there was no way for it to be Jon or Dany because a. They showed that they both tried and failed and b. It would be too stereotypical. I like that Arya killed him because I feel like everyone sort of cast her to the side as "just a smol assassin girl" and she has proven that she can truly hold her own in a variety of situations.
14. The NK dying this ep. I know a lot of people don't like that the undead army met demise in the 3rd ep, but I think it fits the overarching theme of GOT so well. The show has never been "here is our supernatural world with our supernatural forces that the good guys have to beat". Instead it HAS been a "here is a supernatural world with this supernatural problem but jokes on you the mundane political shit causes much bigger issues". That's what made the show better than other high fantasy world in my opinion. Yes there was magic and weird ahit happening, but that isn't the only point. And honestly most of the plotlines of other characters haven't involved the army of undead until recently. Before Tyrion, Sansa, Jaime, Brienne, Dany, and Arya (just to name a few) knew about that problem, they all had completely different motivations. Long story short, don't get mad that the NK died this ep because he has caused far fewer deaths than several other characters. He's never really been the main villain. You just thought he was.
Okay I think I'm done now. Have a great day.
