Mother elvira x child gn reader
Tumblr media
Summary: You and the child of elvira the mistress of darkness
♥️well you're probably a gothic icon just like your mother, but if you have a different taste in clothes Elvira will accept you but she'll want to help you buy some of her clothes just to make sure you don't buy anything tacky.
🖤Elvira is a very liberal mother and rarely gets you grounded but if you really do something serious you will hear an hour lecture on how irresponsible you were and how not to get caught and she will leave you without TV for a few weeks.
♥️It is very likely that you are somewhat more responsible than your mother and it is also very likely that you are up to worse things than your mother.
🖤Elvira would teach you not to care about other people's opinion she knows how people can be cruel to what is different and you can be sure she would defend you whoever dares to hurt your baby, and she will teach you too to defend yourself.
"remember my darling Be yourself no matter what people say because if you here are a perfect person you will still be judged by people" From your mother Elvira.
♥️You would probably be a witch/wizard so elvira would teach you how to use her powers and you would also inherit her ring.
🖤Elvira would accept her sexuality or her gender identity (I have a headcanon that Elvira is bisexual since the actress who plays Elvira is bisexual). you know that dog that appears in the movie, he and his pet, he will also protect you.
♥️ Elvira doesn't know how to cook or do any housework without causing a big disaster so usually you take care of those tasks but don't worry she will help you in the best way she can.
🖤Elvira takes you to her shows and sometimes you perform with her and You get used to you and your mom getting a lot of attention and people looking down on you both, and you better get used to your friends having a secret crush on your mom.
♥️In short Elvira and her mother is crazy and a bit irresponsible but you love her

Movie Idea
Inspirations: love witch, Elvira, lily munster, vampira
Ok this is for Nora. Writing it on my tumblr because why not. So here is the movie plot/pitch. This is meant to be camp.
So there’s this girl named Alicia (we can keep the name of change it I don’t know yet) But she comes from a family of witches okay. So growing up her abuela and mom had books around, practices, ceremonies, and she was seeing this all her life. But the thing is she didn’t get any powers so when they were training her growing up she couldn’t flicker/blow out a candle, she couldn’t do any spells or communicate with animals. She was basically a witch without the powers so not really anything. This made Alicia believe she was useless and had no talents. Her abuela and mother was upset because they wanted her to follow witch craft and at least be able to teach her offspring but this is the fucking early 2000′s, Alicia doesn’t want to settle down or be traditional.
SO as she realizes this, and she decides not to go to college and stay in her hometown- she fees like a failure and has no purpose so she is hard into the party scene. So once the flash back of her childhood are over we see her in real time, early 20′s LIVING it up in clubs and parties and bars. She feels like her purpose is partying so she ditches the idea of being a witch. She has a group of friends who are also lost and just want to party so her life is going really... no where. She introduced to drugs like molly, coke, weed, ecstasy, acid, shrooms, but there is a panic going around with fentanyl so all her friends are bugging. They don’t want to drugs anymore because of everything being laced and also the effects of the drugs wears off faster and they are hard to get at times.
Alicia is upset at her friends not wanting to drugs and party with her. She decides if she can’t get any drugs then she will just make them. She goes to her abuelas house and visits her and starts to ask about witch craft again, her grandma is excited she is interested again and suggest to Alicia she start with protection spells and play with natural herbs. Alicia convinces her abuela to go in her study (where to practices witchcraft) and warns her granddaughter not to get too curious and learn a little at a time.
While in her grandmothers study she notices a little black bag. She opens it up and the smells hits her nose and instantly she gags. She never smelt something like this before but it gave her an instant head rush so she decides to take the bag and other powders she saw lying around. (Breaking Bad inspired)
As she gets alone she decides to experiment with all the stuff se smuggled from her grandmas. She looks up on he dark web how to make drugs and she looks up different chemicals and how they react. (cue in the montage of her getting high and taking a lot of drugs with the things she buys). She gets crafty with everything but nothing is as strong as it used to be so she tries to make a drug where every time you get high it is the same high as you have before and you can’t build a tolerance because each high will be just as good as the next.
She ends up making this powerful drug where it’s a mix of molly and coke and makes people feel so good with the powered stuff she stole from her grandma. She puts the powder in a pill form and is the first to take the drug alone in her room on a Tuesday night. As she sits and waits for 30 mins she is high and drugged out but still conscious. The drug is so amazing and she is the happiest and highest she’s ever felt. She stays home and trips out on this new drug she made and spends 6-8 hours high and out of control (Cue in the scene where she can’t stop using her vibrator for hours).
The next day she brings the capsules to her friends house and gathers everyone around. Everyone is skeptical at first but Alicia explains how she made it so it’s safe and it was the best high she has ever felt before. Once she gets her friends to try her drugs, everyone waits and eventually get high and party all night. They go out they have fun, they dance, and it was a crazy fun night and everyone agrees this is the best drug they ever had. They agree to call it Z after her last name Zamora.
Once word gets around about the new drug Z, people come to Alicia and ask for pills and pills and Alicia gets overwhelmed with how much business she is getting. The more people use it the more the word gets around and Alicia is getting a lot of money from it. There’s no other party drug like this and people begin to party harder, get hornier, and nights get longer.
Alicia quits her job as she begins to make an income off Z, a couple of weeks go by and Alicia’s abuela is freaking out and asking Alicia if she’s seen the black bag that was in the study. Alicia says “no” but realizes that the stuff in the black bag is running out and she needs more to continue to make the drug. As she tries to find out where he grandma got the bag of dust from, she goes over to “help” her grandma. She starts asking her questions and that’s when her grandma reveals what that stuff really was.
Basically it is a crystal crushed up used for black magic. But because it’s lost that means evil can come and use it that can control humans almost in like a zombie state. Alicia begins to freak out internally because the whole down town early 20′s adults have taken a good majority of her pills. Alicia keeps asking her grandma what would happen if it ended up in the wrong hands and she explains a witch who gets people’s to consume her stuff is capable of manipulating and controlling someone.
Come to find any witch would be able to cast a spell anyone under the influence under Z because it contains the powered substance (we can call it uhhhh orbiteze) So they dark magic man, who controls clubs and the party scene finds out about Z and it containing orbiteze. He decides he can get more money and more people to come to his club and built his empire and steal Alicia’s drug that way she won’t have any control over the people who take it. He als intends to use this for bad (like sex trafficking and selling organs)
Becaue there’s no more orbiteze only the grandma and the black magic man know where to get it. (which you need to be an OG witch in order to get it because it is hidden far and dangerous to get. Once Alicia realizes she’s not the only one with orbiteze, her drug Z isn’t selling as much since the black magic man is stealing her idea and selling the drug too. She has to go to the club and confront him which he then reveals his plot on the harvest full moon in October he is gonna cast a black magic spell on everyone who’s taken Z and his own drug with orbiteze and make him a part of his scene and have them sell their bodies and do terrible things for him.
Alicia begins to freak out and realizes things have gone too far and all she wanted to do was party with a better drug. She has to tell her abuela which at first she is really mad but then realizes who the black magic man is which was one of her students when she was a teacher witch and how evil and powerful he is and must take him down (he is a white man).
Alicia practices witchcraft with her abuela despite knowing she doesn’t have any witch powers. She then realizes the only powers she has is when it involves potions and that’s why she was able to make such a powerful drug because she is a witch that specializes in potions and not the other factors. Even though she doesn’t possess any other witch powers she uses potions and protection spells in order to perfect her craft and take down the black magic man.
This is going to be based inn early 2000′s, it is going to be corny and it is going to have her as the protagonist which she is a Hispanic girl with short black hair that curls at the end and wispy bangs. She is going to be iconic for her looks which her most iconic outfit will be a red dress crossing her body and emphasizing her figure. I do not know how she is going to defeat the black magic man but I’m thinking she can make another drug which helps her defeat him we will see. Her weapon is going to be rosary which she uses to fight the evil back magic man hahah. It’s going to be very cobra snake like with the party scenes with poppers and coke and a lot of references to LGBTQ.
Maybe she will have a cat but I also like the idea of a frog as a pet but I am leaning more towards her side kick being an orange cat or a brown cat. yes maybe brown.

That immediately brought a smile to the young faunus’ face. Elvira was actually going to let her get something! Her tail began wagging with excitement.
Nera would’ve never dared ask for much at her old home, considering how her parents had always made it clear that money had been tight. But Nera wasn’t with them anymore. She had her life with Elvira now, and she was happier with her.

(Before Volume 1) While they were out shopping, little Nera quickly stopped and tugged on Elvira's sleeve to get her attention. The small faunus child was pointing at the bakery window display, which was full of sweet treats. She looked like she wanted some.
Tumblr media
Elvira looked down at the little girl who had just pulled on her sleeve, the witch looking up to see what it was she had so wanted Elvira to see, her eyes widening slightly as she took in the revelation. Nera wanted some sweets. A smile quickly took root on Elvira's expression as she chuckled and put her hand on Nera's head affectionately.
" You would like some sweets, dear? Of course. Come now, let us go get some for you. "

Do you have any fascination with the macabre? Examples? No. Do you actually think skeletons are scary? Not really. The Addams Family or The Munsters? Why? The Addams Family. I know of The Munsters, but I never watched it. Do you watch any late-night horror hosts? (Like Svengoolie or Elvira) No. Do you enjoy old horror/monster movies, or just enjoy making fun of them? I’m not into the old, black and white horror movies. Or monster movies, actually. Like in the sense of Frankenstein or Dracula.
What monster movie is your favorite? I don’t have one. Have you ever seen the Rocky Horror Show live? No, not live. If so, was the event held at midnight? I’ve been to watch parties of it where there was a whole interactive aspect and people sang along, danced, and dressed up. Have you ever made fake blood at home? No. Which TV version of Sabrina The Teenage Witch do you prefer? Why? I watched the one with Melissa Joan Hart. I haven’t seen the new one. (^^The Melissa Joan Hart one VS. Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) Oh, I answered that up there. Do you ever watch the original Bewitched TV series? I’ve seen bits of it here and there before, but no I didn’t get into that one. Which Darrin did you like best? Did you like the Bewitched movie with Nicole Kidman and Will Ferrell? I never saw it. Have you ever seen The Witches of Eastwick? Did you like it? Nope. Is Hocus Pocus really a good movie, or a bit overrated? Eh, I didn’t really get into it. If you’ve seen The Craft, who was your favorite character and why? Do you think a remake of it would be interesting? Or do you think it worked best in the nineties? What witch-themed movie/show is your favorite, anyhow? I don’t have one. Do you like The Nightmare Before Christmas? Yeah. Do you count it as a Halloween movie and a Christmas movie? More Halloween than Christmas to me. Do you like Jack or Sally better? Jack. What other Tim Burton works do you enjoy, if any? Sweeney Todd. Are there any ‘dark’ or 'spooky’ films you recommend? Hmm. I’m not like a huge horror movie fan. I’m into the Halloween and Scream movies, though. Are any horror/suspense films actually scary to you? Which ones? Yeah, but I’m a big baby. Are there any songs that put you in spooky mood? No. Just for fun – what would your personal hell look like? Oh yeah, that’s real fun to think about. What supernatural/paranormal themed TV show is your favorite, if any? I don’t watch any. If you’ve watched Supernatural, did you like Crowley? On Supernatural, do you like the angels or demons better? Did you have to read The Crucible for school? No. Would you like to visit Salem, Massachusetts? Nah. Would you like to visit the Winchester Mystery House? It’s not wheelchair accessible, which if you’re familiar with it, would make sense. What about Alcatraz? I’ve been there. Do you think it would be fun to stay at the Lizzie Borden Bed & Breakfast, even though the 'hauntings’ are so obviously faked? Nooo. On that matter…do you think Lizzie actually did it? Seems that way. Have you ever purchased anything from an occult or New Age shop? What? No. Do you ever watch paranormal investigation shows even just to make fun of them? No. My dad does that, though. Did you know Samhain is NOT pronounced Sam-hayn? Oh. (It’s pronounced Sow-wenn.) Okay. Do you know any Pagans/Wiccans? No. Did you ever think that Wiccans worship the devil? Yes. (We do not. There is no such thing as the devil in Wicca, the devil is a Christian concept.) Ah. Do you know any Satanists? No. Have you ever read The Eleven Satanic Rules of the Earth? No. Are there any animals that scare you? All bugs and insects. Also, killer whales. Would you ever keep a tarantula as a pet? NOOOOO. Do you wear mostly black? *looks down and sees I’m wearing a black sweatshirt, black leggings, and black socks* No, not really. ha. What do you think are some of the scariest things that happened in reality? A lot of things. Are there any urban legends in your area? What are they? Not that I’m aware of. Do porcelain dolls unnerve you? YES. A family friend has a few in her house and they’re so creepy. Does your imagination get away from you if you’re alone after dark? Yes. Do you find dead trees beautiful? Maybe? Have you ever been inside of an abandoned building? No. What mythical creature do you think you’d like for a pet? None. Is the light of the full moon eerie or peaceful? Peaceful. Have you ever actually believed in monsters? (Like as a kid) I don’t remember actually believing in monsters, but *shrug* Any recurring nightmares? Care to share? Yes. What myths/legends do you find most interesting? A lot of them are. Have you ever watched The Twilight Zone? Yeah, I like that show. On New Years and 4th of July the Syfy channel does like a 48 hour marathon and my mom and I always watch. Night Gallery? No. Alfred Hitchcock Presents? No. If you’ve watched all three, which is your favorite? Do you like the look of gothic mansions? Sure. Do you own any books from Llewellyn Worldwide publishing company? No. Did you ever go through a goth phase? I went through the emo phase. Thanks! Sure thing.

Hey can I get a Halloween prompt #14 with Baron Corbin
14.   I have to take my sibling trick-or-treating. The only thing making the night even remotely tolerable is the fact that their best friend’s sibling, whom I’m hopelessly attracted to, is coming along.
"Baron, come on! We're gonna be late!" His little sister yanked on his hand. "You promised we'd go to Mara's house to get ready!"
"Calm down, Selene. They're not expecting us until two. It's not even one thirty yet." As if on cue, his phone chirped with a text from Mara's older sibling.
-Hey Corbs, I'm home from work so come on whenever you're ready! I've got everything set up to get you and your sister spooky as fuck
"What did they say?" Selene demanded. "Did they say we can come over?"
"Yeah, go get your stuff. They're ready for us." Baron rubbed at his eyes as Selene ran to her room. He wasn't exactly excited about taking his little sister trick or treating, but it was way too late to back out. Selene had clamored since August to go with his friend's little sister Mara and he'd never hear the end of it if he changed the plan now.
The ride across town was over far before he was ready and his sister fairly exploded out of the car, yelling "Come on!" over her shoulder as she bolted for the porch. His traitorous legs had him climbing the steps in two strides and oh, no. His friend was waiting for him at the door in a killer vampire costume.
"You made it!" they said happily. "Come in, come in. We're gonna get your teeth set before I start on the girls." They swept him inside, baring their teeth in a wide smile, and Baron saw they already had their fangs in.
"Thanks, Elvira," he joked. God, was it hot in there? "Can't go wrong with the classics."
"No joke. What happened to ghosts and witches? At least the girls want to be zombie fairy princesses. Kids these days." They gave him a playful shove. "Let's get started."
Baron sat down in the offered kitchen chair and obediently opened his mouth to let them slide the fang caps filled with acrylic paste over his teeth. They scrutinized the placement carefully before pushing his head back.
"Stay like that and keep your lips up out of the way, otherwise you'll drool all over yourself or knock the fangs out of place." They turned and called "Selene! Mara! Time for your makeup!"
Mara and Selene thundered down the stairs and into the kitchen, already in their princess dresses. Baron watched out of the corner of his eye as his friend transformed the two into gory zombies.
"Ewww!" the 8 year olds chorused when offered a mirror.
"You look super gross!" Selene said.
"No, you look super gross!" Mara laughed.
"Okay, okay. Hold still and close your eyes, let me set it." A few quick spritzes of setting spray later, the girls were ready to terrorize the neighborhood in the name of free candy.
"Let's check those fangs, hm?" Baron felt his face heat when his friend's thumb brushed across his lower lip. "Perfect. Push your teeth against them like I showed you so I can trim them and get your face on."
The fangs popped out and they deftly cut away the excess acrylic before setting the fang caps aside and picking up a makeup palette. Baron closed his eyes as directed and tried not to think about how close they were or the feeling of their hands on his face. Mercifully, their skill meant the whole thing didn't take too long.
"Okay, let's pop these teeth in again so you get the full effect." Two fangs up top, two on the bottom, and it was finished. They handed him the mirror and Baron opened his eyes to find a werewolf staring back at him.
"Holy shit," he said softly. "This is... You're incredible. I love it. This is the best Halloween look I've ever had." He could have sworn he saw them blush a little under their corpse white makeup.
"Hell, it was nothing. Let's grab the girls and hit the streets."
-----
"Trick or treat!"
Baron watched the girls hold out their pumpkin buckets as the nice old lady at the door cooed over their costumes. His friend nudged him.
"Did you see the mom with the stroller who just walked past? She was totally checking you out."
Baron snarled a little for effect. "She should, I look fuckin' badass."
"Hell yeah you do." They glanced at the girls ambling down the path to the sidewalk, digging throigh their buckets to see what they got. "The Tinkerhells seem to be having fun."
"Yeah. I'm having fun too, didn't expect to actually enjoy taking my little sister out on Halloween." Baron stopped Selene before she could creep on to the next house. "Ah ah, big brother tax. Pay up."
"You're such a butthead," Selene grumbled. She fished out a little box of Nerds and shoved it into his hand. "Here, can we go now?"
"Yeah, yeah, shoo." Baron offered his friend his arm. "Shall we?"
"You're ridiculous." They tucked their hand into his elbow and the two of them followed the girls down the street.
"You know," they began. "This is probably a weird time to ask, but are you seeing anyone?"
Baron's heart almost leaped out of his chest. "N-no," he stuttered. "Nobody right now. What, uh, what about you?"
"There's a guy I've had my eye on. Tall, dark, and handsome. Don't think he's catching my hints, though."
Oh my god, are they talking about me? he thought. "Must be some kind of idiot," he managed.
"Nah, I think he's just trying to play it cool. Like I don't notice him checking out my ass in this dress."
"You saw that, huh."
"Oh yeah." They shot him a grin. "Listen, there's a costume contest at that rad little bar downtown later, what do you say we drop the girls off with my mom once we're done here and check it out?"
"Fuck yeah, we'll knock 'em dead."

Duck Coven AU reblarg post
Reblog this post with your oc (if its alright with you for me to include them in this au) and/or headcanons for this au.
I'll start since i'll be busy for awhile so no major au drawing posts from me:
-Witches were and still are guardians of magic. They traditionally wore black to remind them of their creed of humility to serve people in need and guard the crossroads between worlds. Magic was just a bypodruct of that creed. Modern witches wear black in small amounts.
-There ARE witches that became corrupt or used magic to further their own goals. (I.e. Merlock and Circe). It's up to witches to protect each other from going bad and stopping each other. There were magic wars.
-Hunters were once the protectors of witches. They wore white to represent purity of heart. Modern hunters who hunt everything magical, including witches, do not know this. Hunting IS a lucrative business.
-it's telling that Goldie and Opal do NOT wear white.
-there are hybrids of course. Hunters that have magical abilties. Donna and Daisy Duck are two examples. (Musically inclined witches)
-Magic can either be inherited or learned. The De Spells are a coven of witches that learned all their magic. Gladstone is an example of someone inheriting his mom's magic.
-Witches and old Hunters have an apprenticeship system. They don't do schools. Modern Hunters on the other hand have modernized and act like companies. They're dangerous.
-Eider, Quackmore, and Daphne were powerful witches, not because of their abilities, (which were all latent) but because they actually didn't rely on their magic only to solve their problems. Elvira (she was a kitchen witch) taught her children to use their magic only in dire situations or when the situation calls for it. Magic can fail you anytime, so best be prepared. Don't attract attention to yourself. The McDuck coven inherited this way of thinking.
-there are people who dabble in magic but aren't witches or hunters necessarily. They archive or collect magic and preserve history.
- Gladstone accepted becoming a witch and joined a coven to better control his luck. And maybe help find Della.
-the remaining Duck children (and in turn their kids); Donald, Della, Fethry, Abner, and Gus may or may not have inherited their parents latent magic. At this point in the story none of them knew about their legacy
-Either Downy or Fergus were a witch. They mysteriously would smile if asked. But the Mcducks were a magical line (all latent of course)
-Scrooge technically had a witchlike upbringing and he STILL hilariously has no idea about them or hunters.

Piri’s Ultimate List Of Horror Recs (2017 Version)
my go-to compilation of ever single horror/horror-related media i’ve ever enjoyed, including slashers, paranormal, thrillers, creature features, and much, much more 🎃
note: this list has trigger warnings but i am operating under the assumption that you are okay with the standard level of explicit sexuality, vulgarity, violence, and gore present in mainstream horror
horror
original nightmare on elm street series, but especially 1, 3, 4, 6, and freddy vs. jason (tw for implied pedophilia and explicit child murder, tw for rape in #6)
friday the 13th (original and remake)
honestly all the friday the 13th sequels are A Treasure but if you want The Core Canon watch 1-3
my bloody valentine (original)
psycho (original) and tbh all its sequels (tw for sort-of-kind-of incest vibes)
psycho ii and psycho iv are my favorites because (1) meg tilly is adorable in psycho ii and (2) psycho iv has a harley quinn/norman bates cameo and nobody can convince me otherwise
child’s play, child’s play 2, bride of chucky, maybe some sequels after that idk i haven’t seen them yet :(
scream franchise
not the mtv scream series
i mean s1 is decent but there are definitely other horror shows that i would recommend more (will show up later in this post)
1-3 are the best, 4 is worth watching if you really like the characters but as a concept the series has p much run its course by then
tw for rape mentions in scream 1 and 3
predator
peeping tom
kenneth branagh’s frankenstein (tw for a graphic depiction of death in childbirth)
james whale’s frankenstein
bride of frankenstein
the phantom of the opera (1925)
the phantom of the opera (1989) (tw for mild body/surgical horror, general grossness; personally speaking, this is one of my all-time favorite phantom adaptations, because 1. robert englund as the phantom hello oh my god, 2. although it’s much more of a slasher movie than a gothic romance, it does an amazing job of portraying the tragedy in erik’s backstory and his attraction to christine, without implying that he is entitled to christine’s affection and that her love will magically fix him, as some phantom adaptations do)
the phantom of the opera (1943)
alien franchise
the wolfman (2010)
darling (tw for rape)
house on haunted hill (original and remake)
final destination franchise
medium raw: night of the wolf (tw for pedophilia and child murder)
the babadook
the final girls [horror comedy]
the shining (tw for implied child abuse)
the cabin in the woods
hellraiser (tw for incest-y vibes for very brief periods of time)
heathers (tw for eating disorders, suicide, everything high school kids are insensitive assholes about)
from dusk til dawn
an american werewolf in london
the guest
it follows (tw for dubious consent)
nightwatch (tw for implied necrophilia/descriptions of necrophilia, self-mutilation)
re-animator (tw for rape, pedophilia mentions)
carrie (original) (tw for child abuse, religious iconography)
the remake had some interesting like... subtext/imagery but other than that it was pretty *wet fart noise*
the awakening
the craft
the blair witch project
honestly i loved the book of shadows: blair witch 2 bc it kind of parallels the crucible but i can admit that objectively it is Terrible
elvira, mistress of the dark [spooky comedy]*
american mary (tw for rape, (consensual surgical) genital mutilation)
fright night (original and remake)
jaws
listen. this is a horror movie. it was a horror book before that. it was specifically written and later adapted for the purpose of scaring and entertaining people. real life is nothing like this. real sharks are nothing like this. there’s nothing wrong with this movie scaring you but there is everything wrong with using this movie as an excuse to advocate for the wholesale slaughter of animals. sharks are quite possibly the most graceful and beautiful creatures on this earth and i will personally fight anyone who says otherwise
halloween franchise
1-5 are the best imo but no matter what skip #3 because it literally has nothing to do with any of the other movies
not the rob zombie remakes, those are awful
let the right one in [swedish (?) film, watch with subtitles]
rosemary’s baby (original)
night of the living dead (original)
28 days later
suspiria
silent hill (tw for child molestation)
crimson peak (tw for incest)
the lost boys
interview with the vampire
the ring
one missed call
the raven (2012)
repo! the genetic opera
teeth (tw for rape, incest, it’s??????? about a girl who literally has razor-sharp teeth in her vagina and it’s a very tongue-in-cheek commentary on religious repression???? so idk like it’s a wild ride and i love it but watch at your own discretion)
american psycho (tw for rape, general misogyny)
sweeney todd
speaking from experience, this is much better live, the movie sucked out all the fun and humor that wasn’t literally written into the lyrics, so i recommend watching the original broadway cast on youtube or something
there’s also a 1936 movie which i haven’t seen so i can’t speak to its quality BUT i would recommend it on the basis of it being made before the musical was created and thus being based more directly on “the string of pearls” novel which is where the sweeney todd urban legend was originally documented
abott and costello meet [insert universal horror monster here] [spooky comedy]
little shop of horrors (original and remake) [spooky comedy]
the last man on earth (1964)
adapted from the same book i am legend (2007) was adapted from but the last man on earth stays much closer to the original book imo
c. h. u. d.
ghostbusters (1984 and 2016 versions)*
ghost ship
sick girl (tw for bugs, pregnancy horror)
misery (tw for torture)
puppet master series (tw for rape, nazism)
the haunting in connecticut
zombieland**
jurassic park series
lizzie borden took an axe
wolf creek (tw for rape)
it (1990, 2017)
i have........ some nitpicky issues about putting it on this list, because neither movie adaptation really did justice to the whole concept of “derry itself is an extension of an eldritch horror and the real scary part of the story isn’t the clown, it’s the horrible violent tragedies that have repeatedly occurred and then been dismissed throughout derry’s history, leaving the entire town in a large-scale sort of cycle of abuse” so ????????????? idk like i truly do recommend reading the book as well as seeing the movies for The Whole It Experience(TM), but i totally get that not everyone is gonna do that
the 1990 version tells more or less the complete story, but because of that it didn’t have time to include a lot of fun details
the 2017 version only tells the childhood portion of the story, which leaves it time to include fun details. i was really hoping to see more of derry’s backstory or more development on mike and stan as members of marginalized groups -> how that influences their life in derry, but we didn’t get much of that? mike’s importance to the losers (researcher, somewhat of a skeptic/hardass at times to keep the others together) was removed, his healthy family dynamic was removed (mike, richie, and possibly stan are the only characters in the book with healthy family dynamics, somewhat underscoring the concept that derry itself is trapped in a cycle of abuse), and derry’s history of racism is never touched on aside from the kids mentioning “the fire at the black spot” a couple times in passing. overall it was a fun movie and you can tell everyone making it had a blast but compared to the book it’s like. mmmmmmmmmmmmm
BASICALLY what i’m saying here is that the book is really deep wrt social issues, and while neither movie really touches on those concepts in-depth, they are still good horror movies on their own and ofc a part of american pop culture
house of wax (1953)
marnie (tw for rape, abuse and coercion in a marriage dynamic, animal/pet death, graphic depictions of psychological abuse, graphic depiction of a violent death involving a child)
cabin fever (tw for sickness horror/body function horror/unsanitary horror, occasional slurs)
mega shark vs. giant octopus
i don’t even have a real reason for listing this i just can’t believe it exists and i want the whole world to know
texas chainsaw massacre (1974), texas chainsaw massacre 2, texas chainsaw 3d
ju-on: the grudge
phantoms
the plot is pretty ehhh imo but the effects are great; rose mcgowan is gorgeous as always, peter o’toole’s character is great, and ben affleck’s character lowkey has some batman circa arkham knight vibes going on. also, liev schrieber becomes a tentacle monster. i couldn’t make this shit up if i tried y’all
vamps*
this movie. this movie
krysten ritter and alicia silverstone are a couple of vampires, sigourney weaver is their hot mess of a vampire mom, dan stevens is krysten ritter’s boyfriend, wallace shawn is van helsing but he’s basically just vizzini: vampire hunter au and it’s GOLD
it’s literally the cutest and funniest vampire media i’ve ever seen in my life as well as one of the most detailed when it comes to vampire lore i cannot recommend it enough
bram stoker’s dracula
death becomes her**
what we do in the shadows**
disturbia
frankenstein (2004 miniseries, more like a 2-part movie than a tv show)
flatliners (1990) (tw for drug use, uncensored depictions of cadaver dissection)
the cabinet of dr. caligari
the limehouse golem (tw for sexual assault and csa)
repulsion (tw for sexual assault)
the trial (1962)
*spooky comedy: a comedy movie with a spooky premise that i am categorizing with horror movies due to the genre overlap, but that lacks the intense violence, gore, etc. of a horror movie
**horror comedy: a spooky comedy that does not lower the level of violence, gore, etc. that is standard in a horror movie
thrillers
stoker (tw for incest, has a scene in which the protag’s mother verbally abuses her)
m [german film, watch with subtitles] (tw for themes of pedophilia/child molestation/child murder, but it’s worth noting that the whole point of the movie is to condemn and demonize pedophilia)
also one of if not the very first detective movies
nightcrawler (tw for rape)
the vvitch/the witch/however the fuck it’s spelled
rear window (1954)
zodiac
hannibal lecter franchise (tw for cannibalism, obviously)-- the silence of the lambs, hannibal, red dragon, manhunter
manhunter is adapted from the same book red dragon is (red dragon) except manhunter was made before anthony hopkins became The Iconic Hannibal Lecter(TM) so it focuses much more on will graham and francis dolarhyde
hannibal rising is worth watching for gaspard ulliel’s performance but the book was much better
the hannibal movie adaptation changed the ending of the hannibal book while still maintaining a really good and really compelling storyline so the book and movie are definitely both highly recommended by me
gone girl
shutter island (tw for asylum horror)
pan’s labyrinth
tiger house
the champagne murders
the plot and pacing are a little ehhh; in my opinion there was too much tension buildup between characters and not enough actual plot development. BUT, anthony perkins is in it so it’s worth watching if you love him like i do
documentaries
cropsey (documentary on child murders)
urban legends (another documentary, by the same people, talks about how real-life crime affects the american psyche and lives on as urban legends/horror tropes)
the poisoner’s handbook
h. h. holmes
nightmares in red, white, and blue
his name was jason
never sleep again: the elm street legacy
american ripper [currently ongoing tv series]
television/youtube
bates motel
ahs s1 (tw for... literally everything)
slasher
similar basic premise as ahs, but imo ahs is v exploitative and builds the plot on violence and vice, whereas slasher builds the violence and vice on the plot
supernatural (LISTEN........ LISTEN....................... conceptually it’s the bees knees okay)
penny dreadful (tw for constant explicit sexuality, religious iconography/sacrilege, asylum horror)
criminal minds
bbc broadchurch
bbc river
bbc sherlock but literally only ep. 3.4 “the abominable bride”
rosemary’s baby (2-part made-for-tv movie)
unedited footage of a bear
marblehornets
true detective
frankenstein (2004 miniseries, more like a 2-part movie than a tv show)
tbs’ search party
podcasts
the black tapes podcast
small town horror
alice isn’t dead
king falls am [spooky comedy, more sci-fi than horror but there is One Episode that positively screams “love letter to 80s horror movies” so i can’t leave it out with good conscience]
limetown
welcome to night vale [spooky comedy]
the dark tome
video games
until dawn
outlast series
five nights at freddy’s
dead by daylight
bioshock

*throws best mom Elvira at Nera to comfort her. Momma Elvira to the rescue!*
She tries to wipe the tears away before hugging Elvira tightly.
Tumblr media
"H-hi mom..." She really really doesn't want to let go anytime soon.
"I... I'm sorry I still let... bad memories get to me. I wish they didn't." She looked up at the witch, brows furrowing. "Am...Am I weak?"
