Earl Okin watched that scene, digging the Dancing Queen aka Elizabeth II…
“The main thing I remember was…” Timeless and ageless entertainer Earl Okin posted this memory on his Facebook page. Reprinted here with permission: I suppose that I’m among the relatively few here who can remember singing the words ‘God Save The King’. There’s a famous newsreel clip of King George VI seeing off the young Princess Elizabeth (born the same year as Marilyn Monroe) and her husband…

Why Don't I Calm Down a Little and Rank All the Covers of Teenage Dirtbag on Spotify?
The last few weeks have been a little crazy. If there hasn’t been a midterm, there’s been an essay. If there hasn’t been an essay, there’s been a stressful campus event. If there hasn’t been a stressful campus event, I probably haven’t checked my email. If anyone is trying to gauge how I’m doing based on the habits I’ve picked up recently, I wish them luck. As for me, I’m completely lost. The other day, I listened to The Veronicas 2007 album Hook Me Up four times while writing an essay on Catholic imagery. I binge-watched a spectacularly stupid (and I do mean spectacularly stupid) Italian show Friday night, all the while wishing I were sleeping. I’ve now taken several naps while blasting Kaia Kater. I opened up YouTube just now and the site decided what I wanted to see was all the musical numbers from the 1962 film version of The Music Man. This isn’t an incorrect assumption, but a strange one nevertheless.
Sometime last week, I decided to look up and see if Phoebe Bridgers’s cover of “Teenage Dirtbag” was on Spotify. It’s not, because some higher power hates me personally, but you know what are? A whole lotta other covers. Naturally, I spent the next two hours exploring. A couple of these covers are great. Most of them are subpar. Many make me feel violent. In any case, I’ve ranked them all for you here, because this is my blog and I can do what I want. I’ve tried to provide the YouTube video for as many versions as possible in order to be fun and accessible.
A disclaimer: “all” in this case means all except instrumental versions, kids/people without professional recording equipment, and possibly multiple versions that sounded too much like Wheatus for me to figure out that they were not, in fact, the original version.
Here goes:
29. Kaiak
Teenage Dirtbag is inherently obnoxiously whiny, and yet Kaiak (like many performers) decides to use a quiet, sensitive approach to the song. This is a bold move, to be sure, but the result is sounding like the guy who whips out a ukulele at a frat party while staring at his crush straight in the eye. Absolutely egregious. This feature combined with the horrible snapping puts this version in last place. Sorry, my dude.
28. Mark and Kristian Band
Like, I understand the style is purposeful, but that doesn’t mean it’s good. I do believe they’re teenage dirtbags, so I guess that’s a plus?
27. The Exboyfriends
To be fair, acapella groups naturally trigger my fight-or-flight response. I tried not to let this influence my opinion too much. Why oh why, though, would you choose to add derogatory terms to the chorus? The song is literally called “Teenage Dirtbag,” we don’t need more. The group also decided to take an extra whiny, nasally approach to the song, which would be okay if this wasn’t, you know, acapella. As my eternally patient roommate said upon hearing it, “Yeah, this one is pretty bad.”
26. Togun
I do think he’s a good singer. His vocals during the chorus were impressive. FOr acapella, though? Again, feels bad, Scoob.
25. Hullabahoos
I like how I say I tried not to let the fact that it’s acapella influence my opinion when clearly I absolutely did let the fact that it’s acapella influence my opinion.
24. UNC Achordants - Teenage Dirtbag
The harmonies are nice, at least.
23. Scott Chapman
It’s not actually that bad, but the idea of a “candlelight version” of this song horrifies me beyond belief.
22. Little John & the Cadillacs
Look, I really wanted to like this one. Stylistically, it’s great. But the lead singer is so pitchy, dude. I can’t forgive.
21. Brentwood Duo
Barely made it on the list because of low production value. It’s not terrible, I just don’t feel anything. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
20. Jacob Fox
It’s like a worse version of the original.
19. LLC
See above. Also, I feel nothing.
18. Frank Hamilton
Teenage Dirtbag was not made for White Boy Indie, I’m afraid.
17. Liquidsound
Tumblr media
16. Scala & Kolacny Brothers
They’re a good choir. I just don’t think this song is a...good choice.
15. Earl Okin
It’s aight.
14. Catarina Walker
She switched the pronouns around, leading to conflicting feelings. On one hand, I’m a big proponent of letting women be as awful as men. On the other hand, “his girlfriend’s a bitch” makes me feel...hm. Anyway. Needs to be cleaned up a little.
13. The Nannys
It’s fun! Kinda takes away the point of the song, but it’s fun!
12. Avid All Stars
See 21.
11. Tania Sena
She’s not the strongest singer, but I like her approach. She’s soft enough that the song feels angsty and generally emotionally raw, but not so whiny as to make the acoustics out-of-place.
10. Alyssa Reid
She’s good, but am I really supposed to believe this pop queen is a Teenage Dirtbag? Also, no emotion. I should feel like a thirteen-year-old lying on my bedroom floor.
9. Dizzy Dudes
I get the feeling that these are dads, not teenagers. However, you gotta support your local dad rockers.
8. Send Request
In a way, it’s better than the original. Unfortunately, I don’t like the original all that much.
7. Walk Off the Earth
Good, but just sounds like a couple on YouTube. Which I guess they technically are.
6. Flight of Voices
I really like this. Beautiful vocals, beautiful instrumentals. It’s just not angsty enough. We are talking about teenage dirtbags, after all.
5. Fraser James
Okay, sure. I can see a stupid, problematic young man in a coming-of-age film skateboarding to this.
4. Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox
Alright, clearly she’s a fantastic vocalist. Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox always delivers musically. For a Janis Joplin-style cover, however, it sure is without much feeling.
3. The Gentlemen of St. John’s
I take back everything I’ve ever said about acapella. This is beautiful. I want these men to follow me around and sing elevator music as I walk around town. Love.
2. Young Lungs
Here we go! We’re getting there! We just need a little more vulnerability.
1. Amy Shark
YEAH, BABY! She starts off angsty, then soon enough we’re all singing along in the bathroom mirror! We’re using our brushes as microphones! Amy Shark Gets It! She delivered us! We ARE the Teenage Dirtbag! WOOHOO.
Tumblr media
There ya have it, folks! Let’s do a final tally, shall we?
Number of covers: 29
Number of tracks I listened to: probably at least 100
Number of tracks that turned out to just be the original version of the song: too many
Number of tracks that were called “Teenage Dirtbag” but were not the song I was looking for: I actually forgot to count, but I’ll say about 5, with numerous tracks of the same song existing
My headache: monumental
Good: night

Nigerian Celebrities and Brand Promotion
Different Blue Chip organizations in Nigeria, working in assorted circles, for example, Manufacturing, Telecoms, Banking, Consumer administrations are jumping up with new ideas that would put them in front of their adversaries. The post Independent age (1960 till date) has seen the nonstop inundation of organizations both neighborhood and International into the advertising field, anxious to contend in the Nigerian open market Championship. A yearly occasion held to figure out which organizations items/administrations flourished the most in the Nigerian Market. Their exhibitions were evaluated by the benefits posted during the Companies Annual General Meetings. A rare sorts of people who began the race at its initiation are still in dispute for the brilliant prize, while their partners have fallen en route side My Celebrity Bio The opposition to rule the Nigerian market has become harder as time passes, and organizations have sent different showcasing techniques "all through the crate" in an offer to take the market. For instance the normal utilization of promotions by organizations attracting clients to buy their items and at last wining challenging money related prizes and a variety of incidental awards, game shows/lottery, where delicious fiscal bundles are available to all by clients who partake and obey stipulated directions have gotten wild. These 'over whipped showcasing systems', have moved a couple to look towards the course of the big names (particularly those in the Entertainment circuit) to summon a Sales-Reload expected to push them a long ways in front of their rivals.
Tumblr media
According to general society, superstars are viewed as an uncommon extraordinary type of Homosapiens who move about with an emanation of significance, and have the brilliant touch equipped for changing the conventional into extra-customary inside a parting second in their particular picked vocation. They have the ability to keep ones eyes bolted on them, touching off the awed disorder on their fans. They effectively work up fervor in the group with some flinching their necks a lot to the nerves inconvenience, in an offer to get a brief look at them. This wonder is best portrayed during live shows performed by well known artistes when the group goes into a free for all, with the angels obviously shouting their names(if they are folks) and yelling "I Love You X", incredibly crying tears, and once in a while dropping or about dropping at the smallest physical contact with the stars or something else.
The banners of these incredible people who use the money related wands in their grasp are kissed and conversed with by their fans who have them hung in a side of their rooms, and dream perpetually about how great they could have been as one, claim their undying adoration for them, loving, worshiping them, in this manner inciting the great Lord to desire. Superstars by reason of their ubiquity normally have the ability to impact shoppers to swap dependability to the supported brands, and make such adverts to wait persistently in their memory information banks. On a more extensive platform, VIPs, for example, James Earl Jones supported "CNN", Catherine Zeta-Jones "Elizabeth Arden", and Pepsi has ceaselessly utilized International first class footballers and artistes to advance its image.
In Nigeria, the idea of utilizing big names to advance different brands was at its least ebb preceding 2007. Promoting organizations on the compensation move of opponent organizations superbly utilized "Obscure appearances" to attempt to draw potential clients into buying the items being anticipated or to keep up clients unwaveringness or start a cross covering to the utilization of the showed items, through the Electronic media(dominantly TV).
4 REASONS WHY CELEBRITIES WERE HARDLY USED TO PROMOTE BRANDS BACK IN THE DAYS
1. Numbness: Most Advertising specialists were not acquainted with the idea of utilizing VIPs to advance the brands. They were procured to just publicize, grandstand the results of their customers to watchers, which they did. They were not profoundly engaged with any showcasing procedure to out do brands from rival organizations.
2. Impassion: A couple were somewhat apathetic, embraced a languid way to deal with the idea, since they accepted that the utilization of famous people had no impact on the quality yield of the adverts created, so why trouble utilizing them?
3. Reluctance TO SPEND: Most Clients were reluctant to pay the charges required to connect with the administrations of the famous people to advance the brands in the advert (which was not as costly when contrasted and what acquires today). Just a couple assented to the requesting and inevitable utilization of VIPs, for example, the now dead Universal Trust Bank (UTB advert: Chief Zebrudaya and Jegede of the New disguise TV arrangement popularity), Visine eye drops (Regina Askia), Morning new (Bimbo Oloyede), Panadol ( Ovuleria, Akpena in the TV arrangement of the New disguise), New Elephant Blue cleanser (Chief Zebrudaya, Samanja)
4. LOW COMPETITON: A bunch of organizations with rivals creating brands in a similar segment existed. In the 80's we fundamentally had two realized opponent brands of items drawn from various circles for eg Detergents "Omo and Elephant Blue", Soaps "Lux and "Cussons Imperial cowhide", Soft beverages "Coke and Pepsi", Cars "Peugeot and Volkswagen". Then again a couple of organizations delivered brands that went unchallenged, for example, Okin bread rolls, Peak Milk, Maltina, Robb, Thermocool ice chest/coolers.

Colts vs Bears Preseason: What to Watch For
The Indianapolis Colts host the Chicago Bears Saturday night for Week 2 of the preseason. The Colts are coming off a 36-10 loss to the Eagles, while the Bears defeated the Dolphins cheap jerseys from china 27-10.
The Colts are looking to rebound with a more cohesive effort and, as coach Chuck Pagano would say, execute better in Week 2. We should see a more complete team as a few starters who sat out last weekend will be back in the fold for the Colts. cheap jerseys china
The last time these two teams faced each other since 2012. Then, it was Andrew Luck’s debut in the NFL and the then rookie had a rough afternoon. The Colts lost that game 41-21 and Luck threw three interceptions. This will hardly be a rehash of wholesale jerseys china that game, but it is good test for the Colts as we inch closer towards the regular season.
Here’s cheap jerseyswhat to watch for on cheap nfl jerseys Saturday night:
We’re talking ’bout practice. The Colts and Bears held joint practices in Indy this week. Over the course of the two day’s work, the general consensus was that the Colts “won” all the scrimmages. Practice is one thing, a game (alright, not quite a game, but close to it) is something different. The Colts roster is littered with players who showed up in camp but didn’t play well last weekend. The Bears offer a more traditional offense and a defense that can’t get much worse. Both of the Colts units will have plenty of opportunities to make plays. The Return. There is a really good chance that we’ll see Vick Ballard return to the field. He hasn’t played football in 714 days due to a torn ACL and Achilles, both occurring in non-contact practice drills. It is do-or-die time for Ballard as the team can’t wait much longer to see if he has fully recovered. Even if he does play, and plays well, he’s a high risk for reinjury. It is hard not to root for him, but there is a lot of talent at the running back position on the roster right now and it will be an uphill battle for Ballard. A good first step is getting through with a few good plays and showing he can once again take contact. A Stacked Offense. The Colts were without T.Y. Hilton (personal issue) and Donte Moncrief (groin) last week against the Eagles. Andrew Luck operated mostly out of a two tight end set with Andre Johnson and Phillip Dorsett last week, and Zurlon Tipton at running back. This time around it looks like he will have his full complement of weapons. While the exact snap count is unknown for these players, Pagano said they’d be out for a bit longer this week. All sorts of blocking. Last week, the Colts offensive line did a good job of keeping the quarterbacks wholesale jerseys clean (at least the QBs who really matter). Luck had plenty of time in the pocket, and with all his weapons on the field likely won’t need a lot of time to get the ball out. The bigger issue last week was in terms of run blocking. The Colts averaged 3.6 yards per carry and the running backs didn’t have a lot of room to work with. It might have been the scheme the Eagles used, but the Colts should be able to run the ball as opposing defenses set up to stop what will be a prolific passing attack. We still need to see something resembling good run blocking, or the new additions will struggle. Defensive line depth. The Colts are going to have some interesting decisions when it comes to making cuts along the defensive line. Rookies Henry Anderson and David Parry played very well last week and Parry even some reps with the first team defense this week. They also have the like of Earl Okine, Kelcy Quarles, and Zach Kerr who all stood out last week as well. This is a bit of a catch-22, because if these players are good enough to get starters reps, what does it say about Art Jones and Kendall Langford? Those big money signings look like a waste and it doesn’t inspire confidence in the team’s supposedly improved line. On the other hand, the glut of young talent has to make you feel better about the future. Injuries. As with any preseason game, be on the lookout for any injury no matter how minor it may appear. The Colts have had especially bad injury luck for, oh, the past 15 years. A few players might not be suiting up this weekend including wide receiver Quan Bray (groin), cornerback D’Joun Smith (concussion), cornerback Jalil Brown (hamstring), and guard Hugh Thornton (knee). A number of teams have suffered catastrophic injuries over the past week, and while this team appears to have depth, it certainly doesn’t need to be tested. The Colts especially need to consider the play time of the starting offensive line. With Thornton out for a few weeks, the depth is going to be a big concern.
