Texas has been ranked the Best State for Business for the 16th straight year in the annual Best and Worst States for Business survey by Chief Executive Group. The ranking reflects CEO perceptions of the best and worst states for business based on a range of key measures. The Lone Star State has achieved the top spot every year since the ranking's inception thanks to its favorable business climate, low taxes, reasonable cost of living, and diverse and growing labor force. #GoBigInTexas #MoreThanHome #econdev #economicdevelopment #workforcedevelopment #economicgrowth #texasstrong #texas #economicengine (at Kyle, Texas) https://www.instagram.com/p/CBTQbFTF4R-/?igshid=1jqvwo23e9trh

NYPA’s Patricia Wilson Recognized with Entrepreneurs’ Hero Award
Tumblr media
The Reh Center for Entrepreneurship at Clarkson University will host its seventh recognition dinner on Thursday, April 6, where it will honor three individuals for their commitment to and support of entrepreneurship.
Patricia K. Wilson, the New York Power Authority’s Economic Development Manager for the North Country, will be recognized with the Entrepreneurs' Hero Award. This award is given annually to an individual or group who provides resources resulting in increasing the viability of multiple entrepreneurs located in the communities served by the Reh Center for Entrepreneurship.
Wilson joined NYPA in May 2016 to fill the newly created position of Economic Development Manager for the North Country, based out of the St. Lawrence-Franklin D. Roosevelt Power Project in Massena. In that role, she works in close collaboration with area economic and community development professionals to bolster existing businesses and build new ones. Among her areas of focus are connecting businesses to lower cost power opportunities, NYPA-supported funding resources and advancing the opportunities outlined in the St. Lawrence County Economic Development Study, which includes a focus on entrepreneurial growth.
Those strategies include: an Entrepreneur Accelerator to aid high-potential growth entrepreneurs in scaling up their businesses; Main Street Small Business Services designed to simplify small business starts; deploying programs that will Foster Youth Entrepreneurship; and, work in partnership with existing initiatives that advance entrepreneurial opportunities, like Clarkson University’s Reh Center for Entrepreneurship and the Shipley Center for Innovation.
The team of local leaders working with Wilson to advance those entrepreneurial activities includes: Marijean Remington, Atlantic Testing Laboratories; Tom Plastino, St. Lawrence County IDA; John Wicke, SUNY Potsdam; Dale Rice, SBDC – St. Lawrence County; Brooke Rouse, St. Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce; Ron Bacon, Community Bank NA; Erin Draper, Reh Center for Entrepreneurship; Melinda Little, Point Positive; Ben Dixon, St. Lawrence University; and, Lenore VanderZee, SUNY Canton.
In the 18 years leading up to her role at NYPA, Wilson helped strengthen and grow small- and medium-sized firms throughout the North Country region as a marketing consultant for CITEC Business Solutions, an economic development partnership program of the Department of Commerce and Empire State Development.
She is a graduate of Massena Central Schools and Marist College, where she completed the rigorous Science of Man Honors Program, receiving her Bachelor of Arts in Communication Arts, with a concentration in marketing.  She has completed certifications as a Family Business Advisor through the Galliard Group, a Eureka! Winning Ways Growth Coach, and a Lean White Belt.
In her 30 years of community involvement, Wilson’s service has included the Massena Village Planning Board, Business Development Corporation for a Greater Massena, Boys & Girls Club of Massena, Moving Massena Forward Task Force, Adirondack Economic Development Council, and two terms on the Massena Village Board as Village Trustee, Deputy Mayor and member of the economic development committee.
She credits her parents and grandparents with instilling in her the importance of community involvement and her interest in helping businesses to thrive. They leveraged their success as small business owners to launch merchant associations, provide “makers” with space and sales opportunities and founded numerous events to entice visitors to the community.
Growing up in Massena, Wilson now lives in the house her grandparents built there, with her husband Les. Her 26-year-old daughter, Christina, is an Education Specialist at Massena Central School and her 22-year-old son, Ian, will graduate from Clarkson this spring.

As I sit here in @stelmosteakhouse I had this profound thought. It’s absolutely critical to success especially for an #EconDev professional. . Part of building #resiliency in our life is developing the habit of framing any project we take on in a way that clearly defines the desired outcome. . There will be things that come up that catch you by surprise, but if you know that where you are headed is worthwhile, then you can better mentally handle challenges as they present themselves.. How do you define success, for yourself or for your organization? . My good friend @drew_myers, author and host of @definingaudacity_radioshow defines his success like this: “Success is doing what I love, providing for my family while doing it, and being true to myself." . It’s not complicated when you think about it. What do you want? That's it. . Now Simply begin with the end in mind. Get extremely detailed on what the desired outcome is for you. Then create a plan and execute the plan. . You can do this. It may be tough. No, it will be tough and that’s okay because you will now have the mental fortitude to push through the dips and succeed. . If you’d like some helping talking through your desired outcomes I’d be honored to help. . Let’s connect (Info in bio) and make it happen. . #13steps #mindset #coaching #lifecoach #goals #leadership #econdev #iedcindy #iedcannual (at St. Elmo Steak House) https://www.instagram.com/p/B3neG91ganf/?igshid=10srw7pw2jjro

Note
It's time for reasonable people to talk about running for office. Demonstrate how to go to town hall meetings. Promote volunteering on local health, planning, econdev boards. Write a bill (yes, YOU can write a bill!). Teach people what the Federal Register is. Enough with the rhetoric and subsumed factsharing. Promote and demonstrate engagement. 33 states are GOP majority. Cong. Sen. Pres all GOP. SCOTUS soon. GOP's play book is running for office and winning. Left needs to wake up.
Indeed. And start just like conservatives did: take over the political party from below. Go to precinct meetings and elect favorable leadership who will then pursue the agenda at the county, state and federal level. Identify talented people and help them learn how to run for office. Build repertoires of rhetorical responses to conservative ideas. You can’t beat someone with no one. It is time to build the revolution we want to see.
