Anyone have any advice/explanations for the situation I find myself in which is that
a) none of the built in lights in the house work
b) despite being in multiple different circuits, any of which also include plug sockets
c) all the plug sockets do in fact work, while
d) none of the circuit breakers are tripped?
(@blueeyedbookworm suggested changing a bulb, on the logic that "i realise that the odds of any kind of weird power shit blowing every wired in lightbulb in the house is vanishingly slim, but also, it's your house, so" which, fair enough.
I did change one bulb, however that involved rather more dead wasp than I expected or intended and also didn't result in light, so I'm shelving that line of inquiry until I'm more emotionally stable)
Unfortunately the logical first step of 'call an electrician' is off the table
