Keigo: “bet you didn’t see touya coming back from the dead to try and kill ya, huh?”
Endeavor, suddenly enraged: side eyes him silently
Keigo: holding in his laugh and looking away, “got it, got it… let me shut up”

There's something so funny, and sad, about Touya, whose thoughts and feelings about things have often been a mystery since we barely ever get his POV and who had done so well at maintaining a pretty stoic, uncaring mask around others that some fans to this day argue about whether or not he actually cared about the League (he does, it's just in his own way and he's in denial) or meant for Twice to die (he didn't), being betrayed by his own fucking heart monitor.
He was keeping up that persona so well, talking shit to Endeavor and not really responding to much, but the second his dad says he wants to continue seeing and talking to him every day, his heart beats faster.
Tumblr media
And it happens again when Fuyumi and Rei say they want to do the same thing.
Tumblr media
He might stay quiet about his actual feelings about everything for the most part, but he can't keep his heart monitor from going off. And he does eventually open up to Shoto and apologize.
I need 10 more full chapters of just the Todoroki's communicating with Touya, or an entire spinoff, just so they all can have some closure and bond, and Touya can defy the odds yet again and survive.

Villain: We kidnapped your son!
Endeavor: Which one? I have three.
Villain: Uh, he said he enjoys being kidnapped more than spending time with you? -geez, what did you do?-
Endeavor: Which one? I have three.
Villain: ...uh, he's kinda emo and blunt?
Endeavor: Which one? I have three.
Villain: ...uh, he keeps talking about someone named 'Midoriya'?
Endeavor: Oh. That'll be Shoto then.

You know, I think this ending would have been slightly less of a fucking disappointment if the heroes hadn't been so unfairly favored by Horikoshi compared to the villains. I mean, seriously
Deku destroys every bone in his body multiple times throughout the story and is warned that if he continues, he'll permanently lose the use of his limbs ? Everything's fine, his body's just got used to being reduced to a bloody pulp somehow so there's no consequences for him. In fact even when he literally loses his arms to Shigaraki, he gets them back two minutes later thanks to Eri because guess what ? Her horn still works even when cut off from her body. How convenient.
Gran Torino gets his ribcage obliterated by Shigaraki ? Don't worry guys, he'll survive that despite his old age and injuries, and this to have no particular role in the plot afterwards.
Bakugo dies heroically trying to buy time before Deku arrives ? Lmao, did you really believe it ?? No of course not, Edgeshot just uses his last-minute Deus Ex Machina to save his life at the cost of his own and- Oops nope he's fine too, my bad !
Hawks murders a criminal fleeing for his life in cold-blood ? The best Hori has to offer is him completely free and in charge of the HSPC.
And no, losing his quirk isn't a real consequence for him because not only it literally played a major part in saving the world with Vestige!Hawks raising an insurrection among AFO's quirks, but also because his quirk has always been the element through which people exploited him.
Endeavor abused his family for years and completely destroyed his eldest son ? No jail time and no media backlash for that, the only blame he received was due to the heroes' failure to stop the League during the Raid Arc.
And don't even get me started on this bs about facing hell or whatever for what he's done : He's literally free and wealthy ; he have Rei, Fuyumi, Shoto, his sidekicks and Hawks on his side ; and all the difficulties he's apparently going to suffer are off-screened.
Deku had to sacrifice OFA and his future hero career to save the world ? Guess what, Bakugo invested all his time and money to make him an Iron-Man suit and now he can still be a hero with everyone else.
There are plenty more examples of this but I think you get the idea. Now let's take a look at the villains' ending :
Tumblr media
Toya is now a piece of charcoal kept artificially alive for the few years he has left, unable to move a finger, and whose few minutes a day during which he can stay awake will be spent talking to his father who abused him as a child.
Toga, a literal teenager, killed herself to save Ochako and because she knew it's still better than rotting at Tartarus her whole life.
And not only did she die but she did by bleding to death. Let me repeat for those who have trouble grasping what I've just said : In a manga where the heroes can survive having their heart blown to bits, being impaled Kakyoin-style or smashed against buildings like a fly on a windshield, one of the main antagonists died of a fucking hemorrhage…
As for Shigaraki, after learning that his very birth and all the tragedies of his life have been orchestrated by AFO, after all this development and narrative promises about him being saved in the end... Deku just kills him.
Because despite all his speeches about saving him, it seems like the best he could do was beating him both physically and mentally until he crumbles to dust…
Compress on his side is apparently locked up for life and kept alive by machines too.
A begging Kurogiri tried in a desperate attempt to save Shigaraki, only to be unceremoniously blown up by Bakugo and dying off-screen without anyone giving a shit, including Aizawa and Mic.
And Spinner will now spend the rest of his life struggling with the extra quirks inside him that affect his body and mind, while having to cope with the thought that his boyfriend best friend and companions have either died alone or are locked away for life in horrifying circumstances.
Clearly not the same as with the heroes...
Now don't get me wrong, even if they suffered just as much from the consequences of their actions or the plot as the League, this ending would still be a disaster in terms of writing but AT LEAST it wouldn't reek that much of hypocrisy.

Rei: Why didn’t you ground Shoto for skipping school?!
Enji: He looked me in eye and said, “You can forgive Touya for committing terrorism, but not me skipping class?” And I couldn’t argue with that logic.

The fact that the Todoroki family storyline is a tragedy.
The fact that the manga ends with every single one of the Todoroki children remaining irreversibly damaged.
The fact that sometimes hurt is just hurt and there isn't a higher reason for it.
The fact that despite taking different approches, none of the Todoroki children are judged by the narritive for their choices in moving forward and finding their own peace.
The fact that Horikoshi didnt set out to write a story of justice in his superhero comic, but instead wrote a realistic take on how abuse survivors actually get treated by the world we live in.

The tragedy of this panel...
Tumblr media
The clasped hands, made of fire and flesh. Endeavor looking directly at him, seeing him as he truly is for the first time. A son leaping into his fathers arms, but he's too old and too far gone, and this isn't a loving, happy moment. But look at the joy on his face.
It's everything Touya ever wanted in the worst possible way.

Final Todoroki Family Reunion
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Members of the family have either gotten ice burn scars & haircuts
Endeavor is retiring, in a condition where he can't get around on his own [not 100% sure on this part from what I read]
It also appears that perhaps Rei will be her husband's caretaker
Endeavor plans on visiting Toya every day to talk, same with Rei and Fuyumi who wants to talk about anything with him
Before leaving Shoto asks him what his favorite food is, it's soba and he tells him it's his favorite as well
Toya cries and apologizes to Shoto
Natsu reveals that he's cutting ties with his father and that he's marrying his girlfriend, they're not having a ceremony, and doesn't plan on introducing Endeavor to her
Endeavor is okay with it, tells his kids that he's going to continue to pay for his actions for the rest of his life, there's also no reason for them to stay in contact with him and will make sure they don't have their lives affected by the Dabi scandal, a reason why he wanted to survive the war
Fuyumi quit her job, but the mother of one of her students found her a new one.
Shoto gets into Natsu's car to go back to school and tells Enji and Rei that he'll be fine with Class A, and that he's becoming who he wants to be.

Honestly, Gentle and La Brava’s livestream is so chaotic with 0 context. Like, the YouTuber known for petty crimes suddenly appears to save the world class hero high school that is free falling to the ground for some reason while the kid who broke his bones like it was nothing on national television is the only one facing off against the worst villain Japan has ever seen then it changes over to the number one hero and his entire family being barbecued in the sky and then frozen on the ground then it changes to Twice? Who everyone thought was dead but is now back in full force until it’s stopped by two teenage girl’s crying into each other’s faces, one of them naked, mind you, is that allowed on Twitch? Then it changes back to All Might who is iron man now?! Facing off against some maniac teenager with a million quirks who is apparently All for One, by himself. He’s about to get snapped in half by said teenager until BOOM! The sludge villain kid rushes to the bone breaking kid and holds his hand before being thrown like a bullet to rescue All Might. Then BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! All for one is now a baby. Oh- now he’s gone. BACK TO THE BONE BREAKING KID! They’re in Mt. Fuji now for some reason. And the world seems pretty doomed until suddenly the kid becomes a being from your worst nightmares and now you’re watching him do acrobatics with his nightmare tendrils and hoping he doesn’t die.
The chat must be going crazy.
