Engagements | Cassimir & Cormac

Cassimir was not often visibly anxious for the arrival of Lord Calleary. While he privately craved the affirmations of his own greatness that Cormac was only ever too willing to provide, even Cassimir found he had his limits when it came to being in his company. He'd found early on in their friendship that a little of Cormac Calleary went a long way and if he did not have any particular use for him on any given day, Cassimir was almost as likely to avoid his company as anyone else.

However, today presented a unique situation in which Cassimir found himself eagerly awaiting Cormac's visit.

One would not have known this, however, from his greeting.

"Where have you been?" Cassimir demanded, as though Cormac was his own to command and not a lord in his own right. He did not like to be kept waiting -- especially by Cormac who he had come to assume should always be at his beck and call, "I have news that I am eager for you to hear."

He had barely admitted it to himself as to why he was so eager -- for the reasons behind him summoning Cormac Calleary to Malconaire that day was not something he was particularly proud of. The short of it was this: there was no one else in Cassimir's acquaintance who would be happy to hear of his engagement to Eithne Malconaire.

Cormac Calleary was the only person in the entire world who would offer him a genuine congratulations.

Chapter Twelve

Fraye awakes the next morning to an empty bed. He must've left her in the night. She gets up quickly to put on her nightgown to avoid suspicion. The maides soon come in, bathing her and dressing her.

She takes a deep breath, looking in the mirror.

"Lord Arin will be very pleased to see you.", one of the maides says.

Fraye smiles, her nerves only worsening.

She turns to look as her door opens. Ser Jamie walks in, pulling her into a hug.

"I came to check upon you, Fraye. I heard about yesterday.", Jamie says, cradling her head.

"Joffrey only wants to scare me.", she replies, pulling back.

He stares into her eyes, "The hound told me everything when I asked it of him."

Her eyes widen, "What?!"

"He told me everything Joffrey said to you. How he threatened you. I will not let him harm you. I will not let him marry you off to Gregor Clegane. He's a monster to his wives. It would be sending you to your death."

Fraye takes a sigh of relief. She thought Jamie meant 'everything'.

"I am not scared of Joffrey. I have made my decision and I don't know if any person will like it."

He stares at her in confusion.

"Will you promise me one thing? If you have any affection for me?", she asks.

"You are my daughter in my heart, Fraye. I will do whatever you ask."

"I am not marrying Lord Arin."

"It is the best chance you have, Fraye."

"Just please, trust me."

"I will believe in your choices and I will make sure Cersei agrees."

"Thank you. I will be in your debt, forever Jamie."

He hugs her once more, trying to comfort her.

"Shal we?", he asks.

She nods with a smile. She takes his arm, letting him lead her to the throne room.

They walk into the throne room. She sees Cersei sitting next to Joffrey who is on the iron throne. Sandor is to his right. There are guards below along with Lord Arin who is smiling at Fraye.

"Fraye. Glad you are now joining us. We are all here to await your answer before seeing Lord Arin off.", Joffrey smirks.

Jamie moves to stand at the end of the steps, watching.

"Your grace.", she says, bowing.

She turns to Lord Arin, bowing as well.

"I do hope you've made your decision.", he smiles at her, taking her hand.

She takes in a deep breath, "You are a lovely man, Lord Arin. I am sure you will make any lady happy. But, my heart does not want this binding. I am very deeply sorry to decline your offer."

He jerks his hand away, frowning before lunging at her. Fraye hits the ground with a thud. He's on top of her in an instant, his hands wrapping around her throat.

"You bitch! You have every man beggin for your cunt and you refuse! Why do you refuse?! You came from the fucking dirt and I will help to send you back!", he screams, spitting in her face.

Jamie Lannister goes to pull him off but Sandor is already there, sword drawn. He grabs the man by the collar, throwing him off of her. Jamie rushes to her side, cleaning her face and helping her up. There are bruises forming on Fraye's neck. She gasps, trying to catch her breath.

"Well isn't that entertaining!", Joffrey laughs.

"I will have his head!", Jamie yells.

"You will do no such thing uncle. I am king! Not you! What did you expect of a man who just get rejected in front of his king. He has every right to feel anger! You made a fool of him Fraye Hill"

"He must pay for his assault, your grace.", Cersei says, looking right at Jamie.

Jamie nods, agreeing.

"Dog. Beat him bloody and then send him home.", Joffrey orders, standing.

"Yes, Your Grace.", Sandor smirks, picking up the man and dragging him out of the room.

Fraye watches, seeing Sandor's blood boiling. She will be surprised if Lord Arin even survives her lover's wrath.

"My lover.", she thinks, heart warming at the thought.

She's pulled out of her thoughts by Joffrey.

"Now that you've messed it all up, who are you going to betrothe?! I told you that I would choose if you did not.", Joffrey asks.

Fraye moves away from Jamie, stepping toward Joffrey.

"I- I will choose someone that you offered before, your Grace… The hound."

Everyone's face falls, confused.

Joffrey starts to laugh.

"You can't be serious. You would rather be fucked by my dog than a lord?!"

He laughs more.

"Your choice amuses me so but I do not know if thatis wise to just let you choose after all the trouble you've caused Fraye… I have a great idea! My gift to you on your name day will be whom I choose for your husband! If you're lucking, it will be my dog! How does that sound?"

"Y-you are Merciful, Your grace.", she replies, her heart beating fast.

"Now leave me, I am tired of you."

She's quick to move, practically running. Even ignoring Jamie as he tries to follow her.

She cries into her knees as she sits in the floor of her chambers.

"What am I to do?", she whimpers to herself.

Joffrey may not even allow her to marry Sandor. She can feel it in her heart that she will have the mountain forced onto her.

She is crying so hard, she doesn't even notice Sandor sneaking into her room. He shuts and locks the door behind him. He finds her room completely dismantled. Things have been thrown in N ngered state. He immediately leans down, taking her face in his hands.

"Are you alright?!", he asks, looking at her with wide eyes.

"Sandor?", she says through tears, her vision clearing up slowly, "You're covered in blood."

"That fucker tried to hurt you. It took everying in me not to kill him! I left him with barely a breath in his cunt body!"

"Joffrey…. He didn't agree to our marriage."

He sits back, looking at her.

"I thought it would amuse him?"

"He just laughed in my face and then said he would decide if I would marry you or someone else on my name day as a gift."

He leans forward, cleaning her face with his handkerchief. He moves her hair out of the way,, examining the bruises on her throat.

"He left marks on you. I should've killed him.", he says, still angry.

She pushes herself against him, clinging to him in a hug.

"I will not marry.", she whispers, not caring about the blood covering him.

He holds her close.

"I will not let him give you off to my brother."

She pulls back, looking at his face.

He lets his right hand hold the back of her head, kissing her sweetly. All that he wants is for Fraye to be safe and happy. He will make that happen. He will do what he must. No matter the cost.

"Will you stay with me tonight?", she asks, staring at him with watery eyes.

He looks over her face. He can see fear in her eyes. He can see the worry and nerves weighing her.

"I will but I must go now. I have to escort the king. I will be back.", he tells her.

She nods, standing with him.

"Thank you, Sandor.", she says, leaning up and kissing his scared cheek.

He nods, before leaving her alone.

She sighs, sitting down on her bed. She wonders if Jamie could convince Cersei of her bethrothal to Sandor. Surely Cersei could convince her son of their pairing.

It's her only hope now.

Our sweet daughter, Bethesda, has just turned 18 and she got the most special gift from her courtship partner, Fabian -- an engagement ring! Although it's still cloudy, today is one of the first hot days we've had this year, so Fabian proposed while they went on a walk near the church (Dassy chaperoned, of course!). Beth has such a sweet spirit, even if she can be a little anxious, and I'm sure she'll be a great wife and mama! We'll be so sad to see her leave us, but that's just the plan God has for young ladies. Congratulations to the future Mrs Fabian Holt!

And the (current) littlest member of our family has also had an important birthday! Uriah turned 2, and he is such a sweetheart! He's so well-behaved, and he loves to run around after his big brothers and try to copy them. One of the many blessings of having such a large family is having children in so many seasons of life -- it's so sweet to see the little girls talking to Beth about wedding dresses, or Uriah getting his big brothers to play with him.

Engagements

Out of my three muses, Anankos hates large gatherings the most, though he is accustomed to them, having to attend them as Valla's god (and as a companion to Cadros). He will mostly be sticking by Cadros' side, or by a wall if Cadros wishes to do something else. He will not confine his beloved. He's shy, but he will talk to you if approached.

He will also be avoiding his elemental patron if possible, not wanting to get involved in their tricks and playful nature. He would prefer to keep to himself.

Engagments

As Valla's king, and a former prince, Cadros has attended many a ball in his lifetime. Nothing quite like this though! He's never been tiny before either! He's much more used to water, so getting the fire spirit as a patron is certainly interesting to him.

At least Anankos is here. He doesn't know if he would survive something so strange without his god by his side. They will be together for most of the ball (mostly because Anankos is shy and would rather stick by Cadros side), but don't be shy to approach both of them in return!
