Before and After....
Charles Davenport, Jr., South Carolina inmate 378281, born 1993, incarceration intake November 2018 at age 25, scheduled for release November 2035
DUI resulting in Death
In November 2018, a former University of South Carolina student was sentenced to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty in the DUI death of another USC student.
It was one of the harshest DUI-killing sentences handed down in recent years in South Carolina, where drunken drivers who kill innocent people typically are sentenced to six or seven years, said a spokeswoman for the South Carolina Victims Advocate Council.
State Circuit Court Judge George McFaddin handed down the sentence for felony DUI involving death to Charles Davenport Jr., 25, during a lengthy hearing. McFaddin sentenced Davenport to 25 years in prison — the maximum sentence — but suspended five years of that sentence.
In November 2017, Davenport was driving his pickup truck at an estimated 76 mph — more than twice the legal limit — and accelerating on Rosewood Drive when he rammed a moped driven by David Newell, according to evidence. Evidence presented at the hearing showed Davenport had a blood-alcohol level nearly double the legal standard for being under the influence. He also had ingested Xanax — a sedative — and THC, a chemical that produces marijuana’s “high.”
Newell, a 22-year-old graduating senior from Maryland, just had finished his last exam at the School of Business when he was killed.
The combination of drugs and alcohol, along with Davenport’s excessive speed, were factors in Judge McFaddin’s 25-year sentence.
Along with members of Newell’s family, about 40 members of Newell’s Chi Psi fraternity also were in the courtroom and told the court about their loss.
During the hearing, Davenport apologized.
Since Davenport's incarceration he has been described as a model inmate.

The rain pouring hard outside can't seem to be heard well in the Slytherin common room.
The only thing that can be heard from the dimly lit room was the mild crackling embers by the fireplace, and the blond Slytherin humming along as he got himself comfortable on the couch.
Maybe it is actually the resounding, non-stop downpour outside or is it that Jihoon got too engrossed in a book he got from the Restricted Section that got him too preoccupied, that he didn’t even notice someone creeping into him.
"What are you doing here?" He says, almost a hiss at the figure of the person he's so familiar with.
He almost flinched at the sudden presence, as if she apparated in front of him. His voice reverberates a bit too uncomfortably due to the lack of people occupying the room, it's as if both their breathing echoes along the droplets of rain.
Y/n just comes in and sneaks into the Slytherin common room as if it's her usual thing— quite a common… room occurrence to put that pun lamely out of the box.
Well, it might as well be, but it isn't as settling for the older male as she's so casual about it.
His eyebrows remained knitted together, looking at the girl standing before him. He was so sure that everyone was out since there are still classes on-going...
"Y/n, seriously, this is not the time that..."
She shushes him quickly. Not even bothering about the daggers he's shooting at her as she quickly makes herself comfortable on the couch.
This is definitely not the time I am in a particular mood to see my girlfriend busting into another house’s territory.  Let alone her breaking the rules.
‘Rules are meant to be broken,’  a smug tone rings in his ears. Jihoon could already hear her mischievous lips saying those exact words to retort to him.
He remains his glance over her, following her every move like a hawk hunting for its prey. He suppressed a sigh. Even seeing her in her pajama pants, feeling way too comfortable and home-y to be even in a different house common room.
Jihoon just grips on the book at hand and then settled to place it on the table nearby.
“Come on. I’m asking you. Answer me,” he pressed with a tone full of authority.
But she gave no flying broomsticks about it.
“How bossy,” she snickers, finally talking after being silent at Jihoon.
He just glares at her.
“Come on. Jun told me how to get in… And I know things around here already.” She says nonchalantly, as if it’s gonna convince him. He just puffs, way too distracted to even go back to the book he’s reading.
He stares right at her.
“Have you even forgotten about that ‘raincheck’ we talked about, Ji?” she slightly tilts her head sideways, then puts her lips into a thin line. “Earlier?  …this week?”
More staring.
“You told me? Because you were busy and…” She bits her lip, necessarily pausing to give time for him to put the puzzle pieces together, but he’s just left with more pieces. Y/n suppresses a huff.  “Nothing…?”
She crosses her arms when Jihoon looked more confused than he already is with handling plants in their Herbology classes. And FYI, he got an E on his O.W.L.S. result.
“I honestly don’t know what you’re talking about.” He says in defeat. Y/n only nods absentmindedly, leaning in close to him to remind him of some things.
“You told me that I can come by this week since your schedule’s more free, and that if I can come by at my convenience… I can then spend time together with you in the dorms...” she says, as if laying out a parchment of proof for him to remember. Exams might’ve taken a huge toll on his brain power hence being so absentminded.
Jihoon goes back to his stern look at her, as if he really can’t trace back on anything that he might possibly said.
Y/n slumps her shoulders yet again.
“At least look like you’re happy to see me.” Y/n cooed, gesturing a bit of affection to trickle out of the male’s sharp expression.
Finally, Jihoon’s features soften.
Okay, he does remember some of it coming off his lips, but I didn’t mean it in a sense you barging in here like a mad woman…  He holds back a sigh.
“Well, I am, but still…” He looks away for a moment, worrying his lower lip. Being a prefect he is… he’s also bothered of course. She might get in trouble.  Not on my watch that she’ll get away with it, that is.
“Stop worrying too much, and let me be…” She says in retort, automatic as if reading his mind. But that’s full of guts for her to express. “Besides, the seniors know me too well. I assure you I am safe here.” She stretches a bit, and even gets comfortable by the toasty fire nearby. It contrasts with the cold stares the older male is giving her, along with the cold weather cooping them inside.
He rolls his eyes at her, letting out a chuckle.
“This is why you get issued on how much of a Slytherin you are.”
“And do you think I care, Oppa?” Y/n sat right up at that, then pouts her lips, playing with the ends of her sleeves. “I don’t think that’s a bad thing though.”
“Like I said, so Slytherin-like of you.”
Y/n emits a soft laugh at that, standing up to even do a curtsy for him. “Thank you, my good Sir.”
It remained quiet after a while.
Even as she gives him a smirk, she still gets silence from the older male. The coldness surrounding them reflects the feeling like the foggy glassed walls enrapturing the muddled stares between them. It’s a distinct type of tension, no words are needed to be exchanged to reveal it.
Y/n shakes her head lightly, perking a brow at him followed by a cheeky smile. “So that means to say I am welcome here anytime then, huh?”
That finally got a reaction from him.
“Unbelievable.”
“Dude , you’ve been seeing bizarre, floating things and disappearing objects on and off for almost two decades,” she throws her hands high, then gesturing at him and to herself, “and you do not believe in an enchanted lady like me?”
“I do agree with the ‘enchanted lady’ part.” He responds and then clears his throat.
Jihoon avoids his gaze as he begins to feel he’s letting himself loose. He shrugs off the blush across his ears and cheeks with a question he had been throwing at the younger.
“What actually brings you here, Y/n?”
She laughs at that, putting both her hands behind her. “Oh, come on, babe. No need to sound so casual.” Y/n smiles.
He just sounded stiff there at his probe.
She pats him on the head. “Lighten up a bit.”
In these instances, he begins to question if they really switched houses. He gets quieter and curious-er whenever she’s around, and her being the sneaky and more of the talker between them.
“I will, now that I got you here.”
Without a word, Y/n envelopes Jihoon in her arms, giving him a light peck on the side of his face. Jihoon wraps his arms around her as he kisses the top of her head.
He breathes in her scent, feeling her legs wrap around his. Jihoon stares at her. “You missed me too much, huh?”
Y/n just warmly beams, nodding in response.
Jihoon then puts a stray hair of hers behind her ear, tucking more of her hair behind her jumper. He leans closer to her again, seeping in more of her warmth.
She scrunches her nose at that, with Jihoon’s eyes forming into light crescents as both of them are immersed into each other’s world again.
They just let the sound of the loud pouring rain seep into them, letting the warmth of each other be enough to ease the coldness they feel.
“What are the odds to have both our classes cancelled, huh?” Jihoon asks after a while, content as the sound of the rain is still evident outside. Y/n finally has done her explaining to him.
“And what better way to spend it like this then.” She leans more on his chest, breathing in his fresh scent with ease as she felt vibrations from him as he lets out a chuckle.
“It does feel nice…” he says, more of a thought out loud.
“And come on, champ, let’s not use our spare time thinking about that and just spend it wisely instead.” she prompts with a pat on his shoulder, scootching closer till they’re no longer hair strands apart. So clingy.
“I’m just saying.” Jihoon moves his arm above the shoulder, playing bits of her hair.
She feels his shoulders relaxing as he heaves in a deep breath.
It feels nice here, it gets more comfortable as time passes, she thought, closing her eyes.
Like home.
She lets the silence envelop them, a smile slowly forming a similar curve on both their lips.
Maybe she does belong here after all.
She accepts her Slytherin side more so in these instances.
And imagine if they were in the same house though… She can get all the time she needs and wants to have him at arm’s length and look after him.
But for now, she can manage very well to slither in their dorm to her convenience.

This weekend will throw me so deep into a motogp obsession, I'll hopefully have time to work on a few storys, maybe finally publish one of the chapters, go through my inbox and answer some questions, post a few concept ideas and so on. I'm so sorry for the notifications I missed, will answer them!
What I can assure is a short, probably tumblr exclusive, oneshot about Rossi reacting to Marc's "Nobody knows who was third in 2018" coming out tomorrow! Ending depends on tomorrow results, that's why it needs a bit.
I am in an exam phase rn, so that's why I have been busy :( Hard to write, when I need to use all medication time for learning.

On Plagiarism and Academia
Welp, I watched hbomberguy's new video (just like everyone else). And... I loved it! (Go figure) It's a great video, he's genuinely funny and presents the information in an engaging way (I barely even noticed it had been four hours), and we need the information he presented very badly to remind us to independently verify the things we're listening to. But something that he said really struck me because it's something that I'm dealing with in my offline life right now. Disclaimer: this is a hypothesis generated from my own personal observations and experiences and isn't meant to be a sweeping statement of every single academic institution across the entire world.
He seemed really surprised that no one (or very few people) noticed that the Youtubers he was calling out were plagiarizing other people. Like. Really surprised. And at one point, he made the argument that maybe that was because plagiarism was viewed only as a problem in academia, so people assumed it wasn't a problem online and weren't looking for it.
And that hit a chord because the thing is, at least in my small corner of the world, I don't think that plagiarism is a problem in academia. Or, rather, I don't think academia views plagiarism as a problem anymore.
So, if you've been following me for a while, you know I have a whole tag about my struggles in grad school. I've been a grad student for the last six years at [insert major university here], and because my lab doesn't have any funding to pay me, I've been employed as a TA all six years to pay my salary. At this school, in my department, TAs are expected to proctor exams--every single exam for the course and frequently one additional exam from another class.
If we see cheating, we're not supposed to call it out in the middle of the exam. Instead, at the end of the exam, we're supposed to take the student's scantron and hand it over to the professor and give them an estimate on how certain we are the student was cheating so they can pass it on to the university, which, in every syllabus of every class, states they take a hardline stance on cheating and plagiarism. (Yes, I know I'm talking about cheating on exams, which isn't the same thing as plagiarism, but I swear I'll loop back around to it in a minute.)
During the first exam I ever proctored during my first semester of my first year in 2018 (this was three weeks into the semester), I caught a student cheating. Like. Blatantly cheating. Cheating so badly that over a dozen separate people came up to me at the end of the exam to tell me that she was cheating, just in case I hadn't seen it myself. I did exactly what I was supposed to.
I took the student's scantron.
I turned it into the professor and told her that I was 100% certain and had witnesses to back me up.
She gave it to the university.
...And the university came back and said that they weren't going to do an investigation and were just going to let the student take the exam again, this time with a different proctor because they felt I was biased against this student because of the "very serious accusations [she] had leveled against [me] of singling her out for her race." (Newsflash: the student cheated again with that different proctor and got away with it again)
During that first year that I spent as a TA, I reported eight different instances of cheating across six separate exams. Every single one, I was 100% positive that the student had been cheating, and on five of the occasions, I had student witnesses to support my accusation. The university tossed every single accusation out without even a cursory investigation or even filing a report. Oh yeah, really hardline stance there, university.
For the most part (and partially because of distance learning), I stopped reporting cheating, but I tried one more time this past spring to report two cheaters and got back the same result that I did my first year: not even an investigation to see if there was any merit into my claim because they're "busy."
I don't report cheating to the university anymore. They've more than shown me that they don't actually take cheating seriously even when I have more than a dozen people supporting me. Even when I have students half out of their chairs to see what the person in front of them is writing. Even when I have students with their phones out on the desks, looking things up. The university doesn't care, so why should the students?
So how do I loop this back into the discussion on plagiarism? Well, yesterday, while grading my students' final papers, I ran one of them through a plagiarism checker, and it pinged the radar. Two sentences were a direct quote and hadn't been listed in quotations or been cited in the body of the text. If I scrolled through the (long) list of citations at the bottom of the paper, I could find the source, but if it hadn't pinged the checker, I would never have known that those two sentences weren't their own.
The lack of the quotations and the source after the quote is what kicks this over the line into plagiarism, regardless of the source in the later bibliography (the same thing that got Illuminaughtii in trouble on hbomberguy's video). But I was willing to assume it was an honest mistake, and so I emailed the student to ask them to please add the proper citation and resubmit the paper.
This should have taken the student maybe--at most--five minutes to fix. Literally, all it needed was a set of quotation marks and a parenthetical aside with the author's name and year.
Instead, I got a response from the student telling me that they were very busy, it was finals week, and they weren't sure when they could get to it. Oh, and by the way, what grade would they get on the assignment if they didn't fix the source?
It was a stunning lack of regard for the error they'd made on their original submission, and now, because I'd brought it to their attention, if it wasn't fixed, it was willful plagiarism--and we both knew that! They can't claim ignorance or an accidental mistake anymore. We both know that they're passing off someone else's words as their own!
I emailed them back and told them if it wasn't fixed, it would be a 0, and then I messaged the instructor and asked her what happens now? Her response was as disheartening as my previous experience with the university's response to cheating: they'll dismiss it, regardless of their supposed hardline stance, and nothing will happen. Don't even bother reporting it; the most we can do is give the student the 0 I'd already threatened.
So there you have it. This particular university doesn't care if you cheat or plagiarize. Academic dishonesty doesn't mean anything to them--and the students know it. Every year the topic of cheating comes up with my students during my office hours, and every time, the students complain about how their sorority sisters and football team members and fellow classmates get away with cheating over and over and over again because they know the university won't do anything about it, so why should they bother maintaining any kind of integrity? I even asked them if they reported it to their proctors and instructors, and while I got back a few yeses, I got even more why bothers. What's the point of reporting it if nothing is going to happen?
To loop this back into hbomberguy's video, I don't think as few people noticed the plagiarism as he thinks. I think quite a few people noticed (and looking through the comments on the various videos of the James Somerton scandal, not just hbomberguy's, I do see more than a couple comments along those lines). The thing is, I think they kept that to themselves. And though I do think that part of that has to do with the mob mentality of fandoms on the internet and the fear of getting attacked for pointing out something shitty that someone else is doing, I think a lot of it also comes down to this: plagiarism is thought to be an academia problem, therefore the way the academics respond to plagiarism should be what we look to to deal with the same problem elsewhere. But if the way the academics respond to plagiarism is to ignore it and sweep the reports under the rug, then why would we ever think that Youtube, of all places, would deal with it any better?

i was trying to make a post abt Tommy being Abby’s ex Tommy and he and buck can bond over dating her in their 20s using the Tommy is 40 confirmation and it resulted in this math
this is not age discourse this is me working out a timeline for my math loving brain
in order for Tommy to be 40 in 2024 he’d be born in 1984 in order for Abby to be 42 in 2018 she’d be born 1976
the army pilot commitment prior to 2020 was 6 years not 10 and in 2005 he has to be 21 for him to be 40 now (also yea he was there before chim and Hen but u can become a firefighter at any time and both chim and hen had jobs prior)
so joins the army at 17 with parental permission
now how do we get how in 4 years is he a firefighter enough to greet chimney AND be one of the boys
well first he gets an early discharge maybe he was doing gay shit, maybe he got hurt but he has an advantage being in the military and the fire academy isn’t that long according to google and other ppl on the internet becoming a firefighter in the early 2000s was really a toss up…as long as u passed an exam and had ur qualifications u could become a firefighter in months or years
with his advantage tho he starts his probationary run around 20 now probationary period can be a year or it can be 6 months it’s just to see if you’d be a good fit for the department and i mean he’s a cis white male with military training im sure after 6 months and enough camouflage they were like yea okay ur in so in 2005 he walks up to chimney 21 and mean spirited
hen comes 5 years later he’s 26 and in 2017/2018 (when buck joins) he’s transferred and is 33/34
i’m thinking gerard leaves he’s 28/29 but he got into this relationship with abby in between hen joining and it’s over right before bobby joins and he starts figuring out his sexuality…
he probably got to experience a good year or 2 of bobby before transferring so he’s probably 31/32 in the bar scene talking abt scars so at a good 33 he’s was where Buck is now figuring out his sexuality except he didn’t have a hot pilot he had grindr, self depreciation, a new job, and alcohol
lol it’s 11am sorry if this is crazy

I usually reblog, rather than make my own posts, but seeing everyone in the gaze community deal with their grief by writing things down has given me some courage to do the same. I hope it will help me in my grieving process and i hope to help everyone who does relate to what i write. So this will be my farewell letter.
Dear Reita,
I got the news seven days too late, like how it usually is for me coming into a fandom.
I became a fan about 8 years ago, i was doing a creative education as a designer, listening to random music on Youtube with autoplay. Suddenly i found Red, the first song that got me into the Gazette, i was glued to my screen and intrigued with the looks of all members. But why the hell was that one guy wearing a band around his nose? I needed to get into it. So i did.
The gazette then became my first and favorite Visual kei band, i’ve been trough a lot in my life and whenever hardship struck me, there was always an interview that would make me laugh. When i had boring days in school we even played a game, my friends would ask me “why is he covering his nose?” And i would make up the weirdest stories on the spot. That resulted in some charms with titles like ‘reita and the smelly drummer.’ And ‘reita the drugs dealer.’ It varied from poking fun and making up the stupidest thing, to making you some cool guy who fought bad guys. It would always make us laugh, even though, i was making up these stories to friends who weren’t even necessarily in the fandom, because everyone who saw you once, knew your name and so knew who you were.
I wrote fanfiction, many in where you play a big part of the story, not as a love interest, but as a brother of a character based off of me. All because you once said in a radio show that you feel like you’d be a great older brother, hell did i take you up on that one.
I never got to see The Gazette live, i used to curse you all for skipping my country and forcing me to travel for 5 hours to see you all. In 2018 i was almost at that point, but i couldn’t go because of my exams and because i had no friends who wanted to come with me. I always promised myself: one day, i will see them.
It hurts me to realize that day will never come, at least you won’t be there anymore. I accidentally open instagram, and find a grief post written by Hiroto of Alice nine, in the hashtags your name. Shock, that’s the first thing i felt. I must be going crazy. But next up was Miyavi’s post and as i read that it slowly starts downing upon me, my heart sinks to my stomach and a lump forms in my throat as i rush to jrocknews to confirm they aren’t just playing a sick joke.
I start crying like most of the sixth guns, but only after i start reading the members messages. Why am i crying? We’ve lost a talented bass player who inspired so many people to also start making music. The world lost ‘the world’s Reita’ who was always poking fun at the drummer. The bookstores lost their most unexpected romance buyer. Many lost their source of love and joy. I’ve lost my fictional brother.
But most importantly, your actual family lost a loving family member who bought his mother an entire house to repay her for raising him well. The Gazette lost a member. Kai lost his fear during interviews of whatever you are going to say next. Ruki lost being in your personal space no matter how big the dressing room. Aoi lost the person who’s jokes he could laugh the hardest about. Uruha lost his longtime best friend, and now can no longer feel your heart racing before the show, nor can he feel your hand searching for his heart.
I hope everyones feelings reach you, i hope that whichever way you passed, was peaceful and without pain. I hope that whenever it is our time, you come in your mustang to pick everyone up. Usually as a driving instructor i call shotgun, but i’ll leave that space to your close relatives. That way i can’t judge you for turning around while parking, rather than using your mirrors.
Thank you for everything Reita, you will never be forgotten. Once my grief is gone, i promise to remember you with a smile rather than cry. I also promise to be a fan of The Gazette no matter what they decide to do now you’re gone.
And to whomever read my entire message, thank you for reading this unhinged post.

topic: charles & school
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Charles, in a few words, who are you?
Charles Leclerc: “I will be 12 years old on October 16th. I live in Monaco but I am a member of ASK Lyon where I am licensed. I will be entering fifth grade in a few days.“
Do you do as well at school as on the go-kart tracks? CL: “Yes, no problems (EDITOR’S NOTE: dad, posted behind the handset, seems to agree).”
From a 2009 ffsa interview with Charles
Is it difficult […] to reconcile motorsport and school? School is essential and good results are a prerequisite for my karting (imposed by my parents). That said, it requires a lot of effort and work to reconcile the two…“
Charles at age 11, in a 2009 interview
Tumblr media
From a 2021 article in L'Équipe about Charles and his best friends (x)
CLF: With your different races in Europe and around the world, how do you manage to follow a normal education?
CL: "I managed to follow a normal schooling, thanks to the efforts made by the national education system, which helps me to continue my studies like all the other students.”
Charles, in a 2012 interview
To be perfectly prepared if or when [Charles] makes it to the pinnacle of motor racing, he prepares in every area. “I still go to school although it’s a kind of home school. I want to pass my A levels next year to have the chance to study something technical should my racing schedule allow me doing so. I think such a course of studies would help me becoming an even better racing driver.”
Charles, in a 2015 article about his F3 European Championship Rookie Title (x)
Tumblr media
“The first start is like an exam, except that I wasn’t as motivated at school…”
Charles has also said multiple times his favorite subjects were math and science, and that he would have pursued a career in that direction:
“If I had been forced to stop my career back then (due to money issues)? I liked school, so I would have continued there, and I would have liked to have been an engineer probably, working with cars - or an architect working on houses.”
Charles, from a 2018 interview with F1 Racing UK
Other interests include architecture, and had he not made it as a racing driver, his career options were “between being a race engineer and being an architect”.
A 2019 ESPN article about Charles

Abandoning Traditional Timekeeping Based on the search results, it appears that some schools in the UK have been removing analog clocks from exam halls and classrooms due to students’ difficulties in reading time from traditional clock faces. This trend emerged around 2017-2018, with reports suggesting that: Students were struggling to tell time on analog clocks, leading to stress and disruptions during exams. Teachers’ unions, such as the Association of School and College Leaders, recommended replacing analog clocks with digital ones to alleviate this issue. Some schools, like Ruislip High School in London, replaced analog clocks with digital ones in exam halls, citing students’ inability to read analog clocks as the reason.

I'M DONE WITH MY PERFORMANCE!!!!
God, as much as I love theatre, rehearsal schedules are really draining 😵‍💫
But I'm so happy with the end result. It's my first performance in front of a live audience since 2018, and God, I forgot how at home I feel on stage. Also, hearing the applause and screams after a number, is just so gratifying and fulfilling.
We fucked up the end of cell block tango because none of us could hear the music, and I forgot to take off my glasses during quick change, but all in all, for the two weeks that we worked on two musical theatre numbers, I'm really proud of us.
Also! A short film I co-writed premiered during the showcase today! It was a lesbian rom-com lol and it just happened to premiere on the last day of lesbian visibility week :D I'm trying to write some scripts this year
Anyways, yeah! I still have assignments to do and exams to revise for but my time will be a lot more free, and I can FINALLY get back to posting stuff here! ESPECIALLY WITH MORE RWRB CONTENT ON THE HORIZON OH MY GOD
For now, my feel hurt like heel from running around and dancing in four-inch platform heels the whole day, so I'm gonna call it a night :D

Bhai I didn't watch the press conference so.. what happened? And most importantly, how are you doing?
ugh bullshit, thats what happened. the reporters asked the same fucking questions and didn't bring up so many other questions. nta chutiya replied any and all questions with "committee is put up" and that stupid fucking committee is only for reviewing 1600 students over 6 centres so baki sab students go fuck yourself ig.
didnt address paper leak allegations as far as im aware.
"we're a transparent organisation" was said so many fucking times i lost count. but hey, they themselves said that theyre a transparent organisation, so surely right? they investigated themselves and found them not guilty what do we have to question them over haha
grace marks questions = committee will review also, apparently the formula used for giving grace marks was the formula used in clat exam also, someone brought up the fact that a law or smth had been passed in 2018 about how grace marks cannot be given to medical and engineering entrance exams and when people brought that up the guy just said "well, we had to compensate for time that was not enough" and dodged the actual problem which was LEGALLY NO GRACE MARKS SHOULD BE GIVEN (as far as im aware ofc. if this is wrong feel free to correct me people)
why results released on 4th, same day as elections? answer for that was a combo of "so you see, jee ka results we said we'd release after 11 days and we did" and "we did it fast so we released"
rank inflation was not even fucking brought up

Important words for you, Student #1
Tumblr media
Regardless of how your year has been so far, whether you are evaluating it as a good year, a bad year, or a reasonable year, I have something to say to you.
Especially if you are a student or experiencing any kind of pressure.
I believe that here in Tumblr we have many pre-university students or university applicants.
When you are a university applicant, the demands are high. Do not understand demands as synonymous with "success,"
such as:
"doing well in school and also doing well in the entrance exam", "getting good grades."
Some say that "so-and-so does well in school because they are demanded"; "so-and-so does well in the entrance exam because they are demanded," when in reality, it's not like that.
The pressure begins from the moment you hear about the exam and know that you will have to study for it like no one else. Right at the beginning of this university application journey, various ridiculous ideas of competition and comparison are implanted in your head.
This has side effects:
a person may feel pressured and incapable; or super potent and excessively competitive. Anything can happen. The idea of competition in the entrance exam is still very ingrained in the minds of young people. Which is terrible.
My main message is for you not to neglect yourself.
Don't get lost in the midst of this university application madness. I'm not telling you to give up. I'm telling and remembering you to take care of yourself, even while studying.
Because it's no use thinking that only reading and doing who-knows-how-many exercises will guarantee your spot. If your physical and mental health is deteriorating, even if you have read and studied all the content, you won't be 100% well to put these learnings into practice. I guarantee you that.
Hmm, I don't know if you, who are reading this and are a student, have already taken your exams, have passed, haven't passed... regardless of that, my message here is focused on congratulating and advising you.
This text has already been published in my language for students in my country to read if they came across it. At the time, it was 2017 or 2018. I had just finished my second semester in law school, and for many, that meant nothing. Oh, I passed. Cool. But for me, it meant A LOT. Really a lot.
I had a tumultuous, busy, and complicated semester, where I was also all over the place, so things didn't go in the best way. In this context, I didn't see myself giving my best because I wasn't getting the best results.
But now that it's over, I think differently. Well, I gave my BEST. Even with a shitty result on some days, in exams: I did my best. My moment was too difficult and now everything is passing, things are improving. I really feel better that the weather is opening up again.
About grades,
my advice is: don't compare yourself.
There will always be someone "ahead," who succeeded before, who did better until now. Okay, but so what? Your performance is within your current pace, and you shouldn't demand too much from yourself.
It's as if life gave you "limits" as a gift.
Each phase, you receive a different limit, which will be according to the phase you are currently in.
And it's no use looking at the neighbor's limit and comparing it with yours.
It's no use trying to exceed your current quota.
Relax, focus on doing what is within your reach at the moment.
I see young people - 17, 18, 19 years old, and so on - worrying about the future in a very heavy way.
I see people going crazy, devising plans for the future and already thinking it will go wrong.
I understand all the pressure that is placed. But it doesn't have to be that way. I don't like to call our parents and society enemies, it's not that. But they are completely mistaken in
thinking that young people have an obligation to follow the life manual to the letter.
I would like to ask you not to see them as enemies but as people who don't exactly know what is best for you.
The best for you at this moment is what your heart wants (Heart, not Ego).
It's putting everything that needs to be put in place.
You have felt enough pressure this year.

Blood work results
I got my first set of bloodwork results. Things look good, though I am concerned about my insulin/blood sugar and male sex hormones (I'm a woman).
My insulin and blood sugar levels are within the normal range, but high-normal. Same with a lot of my androgens and androgen stimulating hormones. I have elevated testosterone levels (not too high, just a bit). I'm concerned that I may have insulin resistance or PCOS. My sister has both conditions. Though after my annual woman's health exam, my doctor said everything looked fine. Also my lipid panel looks great, and these are elevated in women with PCOS.
I have low levels of some omega-3 fatty acids, but I've switched to fish oil which contains them, unlike flaxseed oil. Even my thyroid hormone levels went down compared to my last test. I wonder why.
I absolutely know for a fact that I've recently been overweight. And definitely stressed. I've been implementing intermittent fasting for 4 months. I have lost weight and I am convinced I have more to lose. If these are the results that appeared on my bloodwork, then it's an indication that I need to lose further weight. Type 2 diabetes runs in my family, so I don't want to experience that and due to the predisposition, I need to maintain that low/normal body weight, do IF, and eat well. I was pretty slim in 2018, but I had an ED. I want to go back to a similar body weight but with IF and balanced non-restrictive eating as opposed to calorie and food restriction.
In 2021 I did blood work and my glucose levels were fine. I was eating a lot of sugar and junk and was stressed and in an awful mood and had poor sleep, though I was active and in slim shape. I know stress and sleep and physical activity do play a role in insulin and blood sugar issues and not just eating a lot of sugar and carrying extra weight. I know walking helps a lot too. I do need to work on my stress though. With all of the news from Gaza and my terrible eczema I got much more stressed. I'm sure the stress made my eczema worse and it was awful this year. I don't recall my eczema being as bad in 2021 though. I wonder if there's a hormonal link to eczema now that I think of it. And my sleep is better now, thankfully.
All I can really do is to continue IF, continue to shed more fat, manage stress, continue my good sleeping habits, continue to walk a lot, and don't eat a lot of sugar and junk (my diet is better now, thankfully). Perhaps some supplement ingredients can also help, like chromium, berberine, and inositol. I'm very happy with my D3/K2 and magnesium and now my fish oil supplements. I'm going to find a go-to multivitamin that can help with my hormones if possible, and a go-to gut health supplement that can help with my gut issues I discussed yesterday. I read a scientific publication that illustrates a link between intestinal permeability and insulin resistance. It would not surprise me that gut issues can cause hormonal imbalances such as what I'm seeing. And increased testosterone can be caused by insulin sensitivity/elevated blood glucose (not necessarily with PCOS which I've never received a diagnosis for).
The goal is to lose fat and to reduce my stress, and to continue the IF, good sleep, and healthy eating habits. Eventually I will find a go-to multivitamin that can help with my hormones and a go-to gut health supplement which can help my gut and in turn, my eczema and hormonal issues.

Madras University Distance Education
Introduction
In January 1840, the University Board was constituted under the presidency of Mr. George Norton for the establishment of Madras University initiated by public petition on 11-11-1839. The Government of India formulated a systematic educational policy and as a sequel on 5th September 1857, Madras University came into existence by an Act of the Legislative Council of India after a lapse of 14 years in the year 1854. Madras University was organized based on the London University model. In the year of 1981, the Institute of Distance Education (IDE) was developed under the influence of Madras University. Madras University Distance Education helps students to complete their educational, career, and personal goals. Madras University is also called the mother of almost all old Universities situated in South India. The area of Madras University's sovereignty has been constricted to three districts of Tamil Nadu in recent years. This resulted in the establishment of various universities in the State and the separation of the University territories. This University is growing from strength to strength and spreading its teaching and research activities among the students.
Madras University Distance Education has completed more than 25 years of service in the field of Distance Education. Polyploidy
Hello, hello! Since my study species, cultivated strawberry, is a polyploid organism, my first educational post is on polyploidy.
Tumblr media
While most animals are diploid, meaning that they have two sets of chromosomes, it is common for plants to have additional sets of chromosomes. When an organism has more than two complete sets of chromosomes, this is known as polyploidy. This can be contrasted to aneuploidy, which is when an organism has a loss or gain in chromosomes that results in one or more set being incomplete.
There are two main types of polyploids. Autopolyploids arise from genome duplication within a single organism or species (Lloyd & Bomblies, 2016). This can either occur from spontaneous whole genome duplication due to endoreduplication (mitotic failure) or from self fertilization following meiotic error. During mitotic failure, the genome is doubled in preparation for cell division but the cell fails to divide (Shu et al, 2018). During meiotic error, chromosome sets fail to segregate, leading to formation of an unreduced gamete (Spoelhof et al, 2017). Autopolyploids have increased vigor due to larger nucleus size and greater protection from recessive deleterious mutations, but they do not gain different genetic information like in allopolyploids.
Tumblr media
Allopolyploids arise from hybridization between two closely related species (Lloyd & Bomblies, 2016). There can be variation in the steps to allopolyploid formation. Notably, an allopolyploid arising from genome duplication of a sterile hybrid can be called an amphidiploid, and an allopolyploid arising from two polyploid parents can be called an amphipolyploid. Allopolyploids have increased vigor for the same reasons as autopolyploids but also have the advantage of new alleles being introduced. As alleles on some chromosomes are lost or silenced over time, favorable alleles can be conserved through natural or artificial selection. The various advantages conferred by allopolyploidy are together known as hybrid vigor.
Tumblr media
Cultivated strawberry is an allo-octoploid, meaning it has eight sets of chromosomes with variation in their species of origin. These chromosomes diploidize to form four sub-genomes, known as sub-genome A-D. This means that most genes exist in quadruplicate. A gene in one sub-genome is known as a homeologue of its counterparts in other sub-genomes. The term homeologue is derived from the term homologue, which refers to genes with a shared origin.
Cultivated strawberry is also an amphipolyploid, as it arose from hybridization of two octoploid parents (Edger et al, 2019). Each of these parents originated from four diploid progenitors (Edger et al, 2019). These progenitors are believed to be F. iinumae, F. nipponica, F. vesca, and F. viridis (Edger et al, 2019). The genomes of each of these progenitors form the sub-genomes of the octoploids.
Figures in this post are from Hegarty & Hiscock, 2008. The strawb picture is my own.
Important Terms: polyploidy, aneuploidy, autopolyploid, allopolyploid, endoreduplication, unreduced gametes, alleles, homeologues, hybrid vigor
When the Winter quarter starts I plan to make these educational posts a weekly thing, largely to help prepare for my qualifying exam, but hopefully they will be useful to others as well. If there are topics related to my studies that are particularly interesting to anyone, feel free to reach out so I can prioritize them :)
