„On our way to the US someone was killed in a toilet cabin of the plane but my best friend of who is still in high school solved it, because I explained to him how bras work. When we arrived in NY my friend‘s mom did some crazy stunt that had her oldtimer only drive on 2 wheels for a while while my friend used that opportunity to drag me halfway through an window of a moving car at high speed. However, just when we thought the police caught that crazy stunt it turned out the police inspector was an actress, perfectly disguised as the police chief. Crazy! Then we went to the play at night and after witnessing some private drama I almost got smashed by stage equipment. That was something. Then it was time for the play but the lead actor got shot midair so the play got stopped and my friend got to solve another murder case.
Anyway, on our way home we got almost assaulted by a different serial killer we ran into but he spared us because we saved his life. I passed out somewhere along the way because of a fever.“
— Ran Mouri telling her family about her first trip to the US

I do find it facinating how Dracula Daily has turned Dracula into a different kind of myth now that we're in its third year running. I've seen a few people compare it to Hadestown, or a timeloop. The enjoyment isn't JUST from engaging with the story now, it's engaging with the experience, and while the emails are still the same as previous years, we've been through this before.
The way we as an audience interact with this story and this way of telling the story changes the genre. Its no longer a gothic horror, classic lit story. It's become a mythology, a tragedy, a repeating loop. Jonathan Harker returns to the castle every year. Every year it happens again. And that changes it, builds up new mythos around it, even if the words stay exactly the same.

revisiting sa1 like almost a decade or so later has been so therapeutic and fun. genuinely i remember why is it that i fell in love w this series so hard
such a charming, quirky, and genuinely goofily self indulgent little game. obvious gameplay jank aside (played dx so yeah there's a bit more than usual but that's also the version i grew up w so shhhh lmao), i had so much fun revisiting the first video game i ever finished on my own as a kid :)
as an aside: i was heavily surprised to realize that sa1 is, like, wayyyyy less slippery than i remember in comparison to sa2. like every time i try to play sa2, it's so much harder for me bc this shit feels like i'm running on ice a lot of the time. never really had that problem w sa1 during my replay. is that an uncommon opinion??? idk????
i'm planning on revisiting sa2 anyway to get my feet wet w it once more. playing sa1 really revitalized my desire to actually pick up my controller and start playing shit again. maybe this is just what i needed...! (maybe i'll tackle the whole series at some point as a countdown to sonadow gens who knows hehehe)

toronto day one update:
paul bellini sent me an email while i was on the drive up with the subject line "Toronto!" and the phrase "Let me know what's up so we can hang." he also invited me to a screening of a movie he cowrote that was never released called "hayseed" tomorrow and said "if you're here you must come." this is the most excitement i've ever seen in a paul email and i am living for it
bruce texted me last night to ask about my ETA and texted again while i was on the road. then when i got to toronto he told me to call him so we could discuss plans for this next week and when he picked up the phone he immediately went "is this my protégé?" and like even tho he calls me that all the time hearing his voice on the other end of the phone still made me super emotional like yep it's me we're in the same city now
long story short the guys are very happy to have me in canada again and i'm so happy that i almost started tearing up in the grocery store thinking about how supportive they are

I have begun with my art project! We're supposed to document a journey, real or fictional (applies to both journey and place). So, naturally, I'm sending someone into the Distortion.
The first cardboard box is done! There will be another, larger one underneath that's not immediately visible unless you open the door and I'll find a way to fit in little notes of some poor person's attempt at a diary to keep their senses in these corridors. (It won't work but that's the fun in it).
Anyway I'm really excited for this project and I'm super proud of the door so far!

my flight out to Edinburgh works out great and fine because its overnight so I can sleep and beat off the worst of the jet lag so that when I land in the morning, I won't be quite as dead and fucked up
on the way back, however, my flight back to Canada is in the middle of the day. the way timezones work out, my flight takes off at noon, and I arrive in Canada at 1pm. and im not landing right in my city I have a connecting flight, and the layover is 8 hours. thats the day im gonna be truly fucked up

I saw mocking jay part II in theaters when I was 12 and it was the movie that made me read the books because I was so shocked by prim’s death and I was mad my mom didn’t warn me about it before I saw it on the big screen 😭
