When I think about Fates getting called a bad story, the first thing I think of is how everyone claiming that fixing Nohr's famine would have solved the war just. completely ignores Anankos's background influence planning to make things worse. If it wasn't the famine, it would have been something else, anything else Anankos could use to further his goals of ruining both Hoshido and Nohr - and that's compelling writing because it shows that it's not a easy fix as some would like it to be. It's strange how so many simplify the core conflict into making little sense because they keep acting like a greater evil behind things is somehow a 'ass pull' or distraction?

That's the thing though, people would then just pivot to the "well it sucks that Fates' problems are caused by a random problems dragon that's only revealed in one route", to which I argue... well, sorta kinda?

The main core of Fates' story is that the conflict is so unreasonable, destructive and meaningless, to the point where even questioning it has people resistant. It's about removing the barrier between two flawed kingdoms that have no reason to keep fighting, and only benefit when they exist in harmony with each other. Anankos' influence is representative of that illogical premise. What else could be making two groups of people fight over more than what they could solve without warfare, other than a crazed, despotic and resentful figure of power who wants to drag the rest of the world down with him?

Revenge, famine, resources, defense from invasion, isolationism, jealousy and pride, etc... all of these provide reason for conflict, but not one that lasted since the age of godly dragons. Only another ambitious and godly dragon could halt progress and change to that degree.

I know the common critique of FE stories in general is that "well, the problems get solved by beating big scary dragon and that sucks", but the point of those final bosses isn't that every problem is solved. Honestly, the point is never just "beat bad dragon the end." The point is that you were able to unify around a cause despite differing backgrounds, and because of that, change is then starting to develop in the epilogues (and can happen in supports, base conversations, etc.) The final bad dragon is the last step of the journey, with said journey being the actual fix to whatever issues are plaguing the protagonist's party. It's a narrative-gameplay tool.

Im only half way through the game (I think?) but Echoes of Wisdom is simply amazing. I’ve loved it from the first scene of Link running to save Zelda, and then theres the interesting story that keeps getting more intense, and of course the cute as hell style and music. Not to mention a world that is so expansive and fun to explore seeing how to get places you shouldn’t be. Possibly one of my favorite games.

i actually didnt realize my icon sketches turn out more pastel, i guess the character palettes & colored lines make them look softer :0 im glad you like them tho! id loosely considered making them a more permanent option since i know fr prices can get pretty high & itd be nice to have smth more affordable but i am. So bad at pricing lol

see, i originally offered them as a way to get hibden items without caring abt the actual item value, essentially making them pwyw since the benefits of more den slots mattered more to me. thats how they work as special offers anyway if i gave my icon sketches a fixed price, theyd probably end up being more in usd than frc since id have to account for payment fees.. id say maybe 800kt/800g but $10? & id still do special offers with the pwyw system since i hate waiting for genes to show up in marketplace & repeating digsites -w-

I breathe a sigh of relief whenever I have to explore a small, contained area in DA:I and these often have the best segments in the whole experience (I just did the Lost Temple of Dirthamen and the Still Ruins, as an example) and like... I feel as though that is very indicative of what key feature of this game was the rotten apple that spoiled the bunch.

denji / ✧ jjk verse !

born in the outskirts of tokyo, denji was brought up in poverty by a sickly mother and an alcoholic father, with neither parent aware of jujutsu. just four years after his birth, his mother died from heart disease, her family left with a sizeable debt of forty million yen as a result of years of failed treatments.

his father's alcoholism only grew from there, and his verbal outbursts became physical. at the age of six, denji's cursed technique manifested in an act of self defense, and he killed his father. shortly after, the oyabun of the yakuza faction would discover the boy alongside the corpse. the incident was determined a suicide to allow them to continue to collect their debt from denji, who developed dissociative amnesia and believed the circumstances of his father's death to be true.

with little he could do to make up the balance owed at his age, denji was put to work as a curse user. dangerous exorcisms aside, he would aid in bigger criminal operations and collecting bounties on both sorcerers and civilians to be given a marginal cut of the payout. for shelter, he was given a run down shed in the back of one of the yakuza's properties, where he would live with his dog pochita.

after being coerced into selling his organs ( testicle, kidney ) to pay off more of his debt at fifteen, denji was falsely called out to a job by the oyabun, who sought to get rid of him as he began to question his little pay. nearly killed by the powerful cursed spirit present there, he was saved by government contracted sorcerers on the scene, who performed the exorcism and brought him in to be treated for his wounds. once his past affiliation was revealed, he was taken into custody for his crimes and charged. with his only other option being execution, denji chose to attend school at tokyo jujutsu high.

denji is currently a second year and a grade 2 sorcerer. he is able to utilize cursed energy to form 'chainsaws' of cursed energy at his arms and head, though he can only activate his ability through a cord in his chest. despite his rank, he's currently on 'probation' due to his unpredictable nature and history, and is not allowed to go on missions without another grade 2 or grade 1 sorcerer present to subdue him if necessary. due to his unique circumstances, he almost always accompanies grade 1 sorcerers, meaning the higher ups aren't too concerned about him meeting the execution he subverted at the hands of a cursed spirit instead.
