THEYRE TOO.. BIG?? DETAILED?? IT'S WEIRD CUZ I LIKE LONG EYED PORKY BUT NOT IN LTC CAN YOU TRY AND ARTICULATE IT FOR ME

AWWWW i love the tall eyes personally!! i think they fit his face volume well, nice slim contrast to his round head to create visual interest

i think it's a Jim Soper thing... and Jim's probably my favorite living artist lol. it is funny comparing the LTC model to the TDTEBU model though, he's adorable in LTC but in revisiting some eps since TDTEBU's release i can't shake some of the "his proportions are too even"-ness of it out. but it also depends on the ep. the eps that Jim does layouts on tend to look the best and most naturalistic, i know this first model was pretty early into production

as for what might be squicking you out though.. hm. it's hard to say, but Porky's design has a lot of golden age "cuteness points" baked in. for the same reason a lot of cartoon babies are drawn with huge foreheads, he has that big ol' forehead that can make him seem cuter and enunciate this sort of round... "fleshy" sounds gross when i say it HAHA but "fleshy" i guess appeal. again, very baby-esque

this Bob McKimson model sheet does a good job of showing that appeal, even if he often seems to give Porky these tiny, beady little eyes that can read as UNappealing... which is perfect for the cynicism and grounded humor of his shorts, where Porky is at some of his most violent and awful (which are some of the shorts i laugh hardest at) HAHA. but it kind of gives off this feeling of him not having properly grown into all of his features yet, and that makes him seem more cute and compact

in my near 6 years of drawing him, this is always something i've STILL been stuck on. i tend to default to the taller eyes because i really love the contrast they give against the roundness of his face--i like big eyes in general, and i admit i'm more won over by that appeal than by "big forehead" appeal... but there is something to having his eyes smaller. it gives a sort of modest and demure appeal that perfectly fits his character. i go back and forth on what i wanna go with him..

i actually just found this pig i'd doodled last year while i was looking for screenshots: this has its own appeal but it feels naked to me!! maybe i needed to angle the eyes forward more. this feels a little uncanny to me. but it has an appeal of its own

i think i'm also biased to the tall eyes because John Carey's my favorite Porky (and in the running for all-time favorite) animator, hugely influential to how i draw Porky and tall(er) eyes are his specialty... just love that contrast of slim and tall against his round, pudgy baby face. it matches his tall, slim ears which is a great balance!! aaaagh! these are so appealing to me personally

actually all my favorite Porky animators usually draw him with tall or huge eyes... Bill Melendez and Rod Scribner have entered the chat. particularly Melendez in terms of the wide eyes (top three)

my god isn't this such a good drawing. Scribner's a frequent culprit for my favorite animated scenes of all time, this being one of them

BUT YEAH! i think a more forehead-forward pig maybe connotes a bit more of a modest, reserved, baby-ish charm which is all perfect for Porky's character. a lot of the wider eyed expressions i used above are certainly for more high octane moments, i can see how it might be weird or off putting too have Too Much Eye on his face... i guess the overlap in shape language is stronger with the wide eyes and wide face. i personally prefer it, or a mix between that and the tall eyes, just because i like a more wide-eyed Porky--it's personally cuter to me and i think there's something to be had with that wide eyed innocence. i very much would love to learn how to effectively capture a more modest appeal with smaller eyes, but i haven't quite figured it out yet...

Cold Adversity

An expedition pair duo marched throughout a thickset forest, cutting through dense ivory vine's of verdant, one of the explorer's advanced before their partner. In that slivered-moment, a prowled predatory glare camouflaged amongst its terrain, a slithering flap of fork-tongue salivating, stalking gradually. The abandoned charter fell tripping, a stump root hidden in those lowly articles of vegetation cut-against was repaid by the disrespected nature. A struggling attempt to unbind commenced; before he-knew-it, his scream showered throughout jungle, echoing. A coiled-predator, starved Python of the native-lands, lashed. Elastic impressive mandible jaw, wallowing around the foot, devouring up towards the whole leg, cohesive poison's working to breakdown its prey for delicacy. Helplessness set in for the deplorable explorer who thought it owned anywhere it stepped. His arm's extending out to try retrieving the machete but fell distances away. Pleaded, frantically crying, it made him only easier to swallow - by designee, whole. Inevitable crept-in, no hope to be sought... Then suddenly an arm-extended out for fellow-man, pulling against the Man-Eater, a viscous tug-war ensued, his partner involuntary acted; even before emotion's formed, adhering to sheer intuition senses beyond the fifth. Climatic showdown results were destined for a scene identical, between two Death-Dealers. Killer Queen overseeing an ill-fated woman, given a clock saw again the certainty everything was dealt expiration. "I'm afraid the poison's reached her throat, it's plausible your employer Sun Shadow, may have a treatment. But you'll never make it." The effected-assassin with an unlikely flower on his garb surely must remember darkness. If untrained, wasn't disciplined to point the nerves in his face still worked, perhaps he'd frown, express sorrow, panic. Again a faint-taunt came from the Lethal-Adder with slight emotion, showing only when a Black Miracle was at their demise. Suddenly a stern-leather mandible claw, pushed at the skull still controlling the Venomous Shadow's life until he decided-otherwise, there was still life. Towards his own-displayed treacherous weapon that caused this. Hoku wasn't convinced there wasn't a salve. Steel-exposure saw him put his prey's forehead against the venom's own blade, slicing open a wound. Hydo believed the Miqo'te was attempting to torture him for information. Letting out creek evil laughter. Attempting to hide a deceitful grimace. He knew an answer. Shockingly, Hoku self-sacrificed himself on pure unexplained notion cutting himself purposefully too. "..F-fool!" Managed to bellow from the Adder. "Let's see if the poison takes root. Or you decide who hangs at your whim. I wonder, would you wield a dangerous blade despite knowing if turned against you, it'd be fatal?" Observing keenly their hand's where the poison took supposed root. Greenish-complexion would happen if-so. Stricken identical times. Fear registered in the nefarious-poisonous snake; he felt heartbeat again, seen-through his darkness-domain. That frightening-steel composure, emotions-fear, panic, all that should've set in! As most, but not this star-eyed killer. "Looks like you lose Inevitable." Both their-hands revealed truth. Hoku's poison came to pass, but Hydo's didn't. Coldly followed, withdrawing his sheathed-steel followed from his advisory as if he pulled a chosen-blade from rock, artistically brutally Geyser of red rocketed over his afflicted wound, the venomous one, blood was anti-venom. Taking the discover treatment to client's wound for mending. Shaman's symptom's dissolved, weakly her obscured vision and conscious came for a breathe, seeing multiple images of him and the flower still untainted, six-bells remaining before contract fulfilled. "Such a dark-shrouded man, coveting a world of night. Y-yet bright golden-stars for eyes. Akin to these skies, beautiful..." She befell to rest and smile. These two were gradually encountering harmony, in another.

Just to say something to get my mind on/off some things...

Man, I wish more was done with the Curious Cat. I'm still not that fond of the name for a personal reason, but frankly an antagonist with the motivation of "why has god abandoned us me?" could have been really interesting. It makes them kind of depressing, in a way, since they're literally stuck wondering it and can't not want to figure out why.

To be honest, though, I did like the designs they got over the course of Volume 9. And before the tea party episode, I was still pretty fond of their mannerisms. Reminded me slightly of another Robbie Daymond voiced character I like a ton.

Just to make sure it's clear enough, though, even with the twist and how telegraphed it kinda was, i found the cat to be an intriguing antagonist. While we're not given every little detail of their plans, it feels like CC's partially driven mad by their curiosity. It's interesting as hell, and it's sad they only got to exist for V9 only. Imagine the timeline where CC didn't need a vessel and just waltzed on out.

In short, Robbie Daymond Cat has a volume-exclusive life, but a pretty cool one.

....and also frankly, I can't be mad at them. Not entirely, at least.

Like, I'm more of a dog person, but look at those eyes.

If they weren't supposed to be an antagonist, I would give them everything they wanted.
