Mid-year recalibration

It's been a year since Festa Dinner 2022. A LOT HAS HAPPENED SINCE THEN.

And on January 1, 2023, I posted my "predictions" for the year. "Predictions" in quotes because most everything I write is sort of slightly unserious, not to be taken TOO seriously, begs for you to please use your common sense... also I haz a little sarcasm dripping here and there when I express my thoughts. Drip, drip.

So let's see the status of my "predictions":

Solo albums... wellll, I sort of got that right, Jimin's FACE was released before Yoongi's D-Day. We're still waiting for Tae and Jungkook. RM keeps putting off enlistment to work on new music. I'm gonna have to drag him by the ear to training camp... get yer ass in there so you can come back sooner than later!! But we did get to see him for Festa and I'm thankful for that.

New prediction: Jungkook comes through with a chart topper that doesn't involve a collab.

Speaking of Tae, I said he'd do more acting before music and though it's not really acting, he's been in a few reality TV shows: "In the Soop: Friendcation" and "Jinny's Kitchen." There are rumors he was spotted on the set of a K-drama and now possibly he was in Spain for a movie...or was that for an upcoming solo MV? Surely he'll have at least a little bit of music before he enlists? Honestly, I wouldn't mind seeing him actually acting in a drama... we wait.

New prediction: Piano bar listening party for his solo release.

Military enlistment... wow so far I've struck out. Joon is still hanging around. Yoongi has extended his world tour (which I'm happy to say I've been to a concert). And HOBI IS ALREADY ENLISTED....

So 3 strikes I'm out because obviously their enlistment timing is unpredictable. Right now I'm just hoping that by May 2024 (yes almost a year from now) they'll all be in so we can have a New Year group reunion on Dec. 31, 2025. Of course, I hope they go much sooner though it kills me to know we have to watch them enlist again and again.

My other predictions were hit and miss:

Yoongi did cut his hair so I was wrong about that. Also sad. I loved his long hair. And this NBA ambassadorship came outta left field. The D-Day world tour was the bomb he dropped on us, his big project. Oh well, guess there won't be any tangerine soju coming from his non-existent citrus orchards. Ha!

Hobi DID release more music, On the Street, and it WAS a collab with J. Cole. AND he became fashion ambassador for his fave: Louis Vuitton. God I miss him so much. Instagram is so quiet without him. Everything is so quiet without him.

We finally got PJM1 and it has a name now, FACE and Like Crazy has broken records. Jimin as an artist has broken records as we knew he would and he is still making music. And he's travelling the world being a Dior and Tiffany ambassador and snatching everyone's wig, eating everyone alive and just being Jimin. His constant happy smile has been the most meaningful thing to me this year. I'm so thrilled he is happy.

Jungkook... the Bunkoo has stumped me. The Calvin Klein contract is amazing. His spontaneous lives have been wonderful. Cooking for us has been awesome. None of that could have been predicted. He's the sweetest king of spoilers and support for Jimin's stuff. I also did not predict I would love him even more this year. But here we are.

NOT ON THE PREDICTION RADAR WHATSOEVER:

Jimin on a Fast & Furious franchise soundtrack collab. I NEED MORE JIMIN!

Tae and Jennie "soft" revealing their relationship publicly. Like WHAT? But they did that.

Also blonde Tae... I never thought we'd see a blonde Tannie again.

2023 is already half way over. I have no idea what will happen this second half of 2023. It's a mystery.

As much as I am reveling in having so much to look forward to every day and every week, and as much as I wish this didn't have to happen...I (selfishly) really want them to get enlisted so they can be back together as soon as possible in 2025 (at any point in 2025). The first time I see them together in 2025, I am going to cry with relief. However I am always the first to say BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR so I know I shouldn't even been saying any of that...

Anyway...

I guess at the end of December, I will be looking back and saying "well, who would have thought THAT would happen?" More of "not on the prediction radar." By December, Jin will only have six months left. Time is flying faster than I thought it would when back on June 13, 2022. After that heartbreaking Festa dinner, we were staring down a bleak two and a half years of being Bangtan-less....well that didn't happen did it?

No. That's a classic from targies. They love to use this quote from GRRM's vampire novel 'Fevre Dream' to justify their fave's campaign in Slaver's Bay:

Only I been thinkin’, and it seems to me maybe they was right after all.You can’t just go . . . usin’ another kind of people, like they wasn’t people at all. Know what I mean? Abner Marsh, the Captain of the steamboat Fevre Dream, was a white man that: "never held much with slavery, even if he never done much against it neither." And Toby Lanyard, Marsh's cook, was basically still a slave: “You done good by ol’ Toby, Cap’n Marsh, givin’ me my freedom and all so’s I could cook fo’ you. That you did.”

Let's read more about good old Toby Lanyard:

The cook was a free colored man named Toby Lanyard, who had been with Marsh fourteen years, ever since Marsh tasted his cooking down in Natchez, bought him, and gave him his freedom.

As you can see, Toby is always reminding us that Marsh gave him his freedom so Toby can cook for him . . . .

Toby reminds me a lot of little Missandei. Sweet souls.

And why was Abner Marsh talking that way about the end of slavery with Toby? Well, because he knew how the vampires treated human beings, no matter their skin color. He knew how the vampires treated human beings as slaves. Vampires called humans "The cattle." For Vampires, humans were prey.

That's why we read Abner Marsh, a white man that: "never held much with slavery, even if he never done much against it neither," then saying that "You can’t just go . . . usin’ another kind of people, like they wasn’t people at all."

Very telling, right?

But even Abner Marsh knew that fire and blood must be the last measure: Got to end, sooner or later. Better if it ends peaceful, but it’s got to end even if it has to be with fire and blood, you see? Maybe that’s what them abolitionists been sayin’ all along. You try to be reasonable, that’s only right, but if it don’t work, you got to be ready. Some things is just wrong. They got to be ended.”

we don't talk about Riccardo at Trinity Gate often enough, what's his role there? How does it go? What happens when Marius visits?

Three questions in one, I love it. 🥹 Let's break this into two parts:

What's Riccardo's role at Trinity Gate and how does it go?

These are the three mentions of Riccardo at Trinity Gate that we get in the last trilogy:

The other ghosts hung back. And one of them, a very personable young male, rather husky, with dark olive skin and curling black hair, appeared to have been weeping. I couldn’t help notice that Armand was almost directly behind him and rather close to him.

Armand went with them, his arm around the dark-haired ghost, the ghost who had been weeping, and the door was closed.

And that male ghost who’d come to Trinity Gate, bringing tears from Armand, the one called Riccardo?

By my read, it feels intentional on Anne's part to have what appears to this big healing moment for both Armand and Riccardo's spirit occur at Trinity Gate. Trinity Gate is where Armand and Louis started healing, separately and together. It's where Daniel goes to give his relationship with Armand another go.

To wax poetic: Trinity Gate is a place of solace and second chances. They're vampires, they have forever (or they think they do) to fix what went wrong. But immortality is going to be pretty lonely if you keep putting off those difficult conversations and keeping others at bay! (*ahem* Armand and Marius; Armand and Lestat; Marius and Pandora).

What happens when Marius visits?

SPEAKING OF MARIUS.

I know we (me) talk a lot about Armand's trauma and why XYZ explains his behavior, and how he's grown so much through XYZ so he's not the original toxic, manipulative villain that Anne wrote in IWTV and TVL, (drop an AR/VC quote for citation), it's my fave character development arc, blah blah....

BUT I don't think we (me) talk enough about Marius's trauma and how that informs his behavior and why it can also explain XYZ. Mostly because I don't have a reason to do so -- it doesn't usually factor into the things I obsess about when the vampire ADD kicks in.

I think it's necessary here though, if we're talking about Armand, Riccardo, and Marius. We know in B&G that Marius referred to Venice as his "Perfect Time"; we know how deeply he loved the boys in his care, how much he wanted to provide for them and offer them a good life; we know the guilt and devastation he felt following what happened with the Children of Darkness, and how he blamed himself for not destroying Santino when he had the chance.

I posted it here before, but like imagine how Marius felt when/if he read TVA and found out exactly how Riccardo died? Marius loved all the boys. Yes, Amadeo was special and the love was very different, but they were all Marius's children in a way. By his own account -- his responsibility; he loved them, he tried to save them.

I went off on a tangent but back to your question... I think that Riccardo's presence could also serve as a balm to Marius's soul the way it does Armand's. Of course it's not the same -- Riccardo being there for Armand is more in line with forgiveness, forgiveness for the horrible way in which he died. Riccardo being there for Marius looks more as just a simple comfort, a reminder of that Perfect Time. And I think that, in turn, can serve as a common ground for Armand and Marius to mend their relationship further and heal the old wounds that span five hundred years.

One thing I noticed in B&G is that Marius never once referred to Armand as "Armand," it's "Amadeo" all the way through to the present day. Someone once made a comment somewhere that Lestat and Louis need a common muse, a common ground, to have any kind of functional relationship. I think Riccardo, at least temporarily, could be part of that common ground/common muse for Armand and Marius. He could help bridge the gap between Amadeo and Armand for Marius, as well as the gap between the Marius of now and the Marius of Venice for Armand.

*I don't even know if I answered your question and I'm sorry, I've just been emotional over Marius lately and I blame you 100%. 🫠

This was Armand.

Harry era, that’s an interesting question! I wasn’t here for it but the HS1 era. Just a guy, fresh out of one of the most successful bands in the world, putting on a record which featured lots of guitars and drums with great lyrics which effectively has made it my favorite album of his, playing in intimate places, wearing floral suits, being more open, creating iconic moments that will forever be remembered in fandom

Oh Don’t Worry Darling. I wanted to give it a fair chance, I really did, but the promo was all over the place (female pleasure when the women in the movie are having non consensual sex? The abusive husband suddenly being a #feminist king because he wears an apron? Only focusing in the sex scenes just because it’s Harry Styles and he’s hot right? Not having a intimacy coordinator and apparently it shows?), the Olivia/Shia/Florence situation, every time I tried to google about the movie all I could find were articles about Harry and Olivia, Venice happened, and to top it all we had that salad dressing article which effectively killed any little curiosity I had for the film. And with all honesty, I just don’t like Olivia Wilde, and I am not able to separate the art from the artist here, sorry

Great question. I’d say their lyrics first and foremost since they are musicians and that’s what they do best, their personalities a close second, because there has to be a reason I like them right? Just them being their most authentic selves (or as authentic as you can be in the music industry). Some of my favorite interviews of them is when they talk about their art, the industry and their experiences. Everyone focus on the feels like a movie quote but Harry talking about My Policeman is truly touching. Louis is eloquent and smart and I could hear him talk for hours

Lucas Rants about Lucas

i get so bored with lucas in series 7-8 (bless his heart, he cant help it) but every time vaughn shows up at the end of series 9 episode 1 i go 100% fully feral because thats actually when his character gets interesting. I could rant about the entire two minutes of their conversation (i won’t though. not yet.) but for now i just wanna focus on that look when vaughn asks what’s it like being lucas north? like you can just tell the fucker i’m writing knows he’s in deep shit. I think he knew it from the first moment he saw him (he tells him to stay away after all) but I think it starts to tickle in the back of his mind that oh god things are bad because (as lottie pointed out when we were discussing it) that’s a very passive aggressive comment vaughn makes. he’s sort of testing the walls, testing lucas’ reaction. and lucas fails because while he tries to maintain that facade of a man who doesnt give a fuck (which he failed because we can all see him react) when vaughn says good to see you, john... lucas is not confused. that is not an expression of a man who is like ‘omg where am i? why did you call me john?’ thats a man that knows he done fucked up and its gonna come back out because vaughn obviously wants something from him. 

i have to give the fandom the benefit of the doubt and assume that a lot of people take this idea of lucas not knowing/remembering his past as john on this weird out of context quote that floats around from richard where he says something about ‘john bateman really starts to emerge’ ... Its not an actual person?? this is not a short novel by robert louis stevenson. John Bateman doesn’t (in my opinion. I mean, i guess people can veer whatever direction they want) have anything like DID or something. and trauma amnesia doesnt make sense to me either because he KNOWS. he’s not confused. But anyways i think its a popular fandom idea to polarize lucas and john into these two different people and idk if its because people have never tried to manipulate others before (hi. nice to meet you.) or what but you’re not two different people. there’s not a what you are vs a what you’re trying to be and they arent constantly fighting for dominance. in my opinion, the john bateman starts to come out is more like .. what is the use of his role he’s playing? there isn’t one. He’s gotta go back to those instincts and reactions and behaviors that got him to the point hes at in the first place. He unravels because he’s losing his mind because (like i’ve preached since day one), the chess pieces are completely upending themselves suddenly on his carefully planned out board.

i think i’m triggered by the excuses people try to make because i want to support and be like oh yeah yalls theories are valid .. but honestly, fanon is not canon. and it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth because its like the idea is to have him be a good guy and he’s not and there’s nothing wrong with that. it doesn’t have to be good or bad but i just don’t ever get why it seems to be a thing where people want to make excuses or reasons that their white boy faves arent out there doing shit things. why fanon. why. he is a terrorist.

Before the fall of 2020, I was absolutely in the dark about One Direction and the Larry love story. If not for Covid-19, I probably wouldn’t have come to this fandom at all. Or maybe I would have eventually--I can't believe I didn't know about it before. My teenage daughter introduced me to the love story in August 2020--of course I knew about One Direction and the surface stuff that the general public knows. She made me sit down and listen to HS1, Walls, and Fine Line back to back. And watch the Adore You video--it was Louis the Fish that clinched it for me.

As a young adult and middle grade novelist, the love story was the thing that hooked me. And boy, it hooked me hard. I went down the rabbit hole. Deep down the rabbit hole, I need to add. Fan made videos, master lists, Fan Fiction. The Rainbow Bears. Anything I could find about the music industry and stunting and tabloids. Some of it broke my heart, but most of it gave me such joy.

Happy Walls Dayyy!!!!!! Today was the first anniversary of our #1 fave debut album of 2020, and we all celebrated, Louis included! Last but best thing first: WE GOT A DEMO!! Louis ended the day by publishing a dreamy clip of a demo of the title song ‘Walls’. His clear voice croons over beautiful sliding electric guitars and background reverberance- if that’s his FIRST draft then he is, as we knew, a GENIUS! AND, the King Himself came on twitter to interact with his “loyal” (his words) subjects (that’s us!). He popped up at first to say that his tour, when it comes around, will be “fucking unbelievable...this is our day!”, and talked about his favorite part of the last year (“the two shows I played”), what he noticed most when performing solo the first times (“the space on stage” ughhhh all the tears), what he was looking forward to after COVID (“everything”) and getting through these times- “remember that everything is going to be better when normality sets back in.” He also explained that while he was gonna put out merch today, he “didn’t want to market the day”, but rather make it “a celebration just for us”. But, uh, the merch will be coming eventually! He then replied that there were “too many greedy fuckers out there” who try turn celebratory events into a “cash grab” (to quote the fan), and harries then got mad at that because THEY were like this must be about Harry (lol uhhhh) and assumed he was shading him and Jeff rather than, I don’t know, his OWN FORMER LABEL?? Cool cool cool, but it’s still Harry’s moth on Spotify, so cope. He told us that his proudest moment on the album was recording the strings for the Walls the Single, that he wouldn’t have approached the process differently because he’s still really proud of the album, that he was most looking forward to us hearing KMM or Walls, that Doncaster is his fav place (to no one’s surprise lmao), and, asked what song he likes to rock out to off HIS ALBUM was like oh hey have I got a rec for you: “Maybe Tomorrow” by the Stereophonics. It goes, “think I'll walk me outside and buy a rainbow smile, but be free” and “maybe tomorrow I’ll find my way home” (huh is there something happening tomorrow that could be linked to... OH. Right. Huh. Well all that is just a coincidence I’m sure, it’s not like Louis ever said he likes to rec songs because he wants us to read into the lyrics or anything... oh wait.)    

LTHQ did a insta quiz over on their stories (I only got two questions wrong!) and they did the promised virtual listening party and tweeted along to each song and retweeted fans’ reactions (and all the usernames, larries everywhere, we SEE YOU). Friends of Louis joined in the celebration- Only The Poets, Ashton Irwin of 5SoS fame, Helene Hornyck (“all the love,” she said!), Isaac Anderson and more, and All On The Board made one of their lovely Frankenstein poems which mashing up a bunch of LT1 songs, but in keeping with the theme of the day (and COVID I GUESS) did it as fanart rather than the usual in person board. And all of that was the BORING part of the day, can you BELIEVE?? The FUN part was the Walls Fanart that was chosen to be the new Spotify cards on the official Walls album. As in, they are up right now if you want to go check them out, but I’m gonna tell you straight up: they’re half Harry tats! The Defenseless card, especially, as it is just straight up fanart of Harry’s moth tattoo, especially fun when he had JUST got us talking about its Papillion origin with his finsta! The artist had been worried that Louis would be mad at them for submitting ‘Larry art’, and was overjoyed to learn that, uh... apparently, he was NOT. That was not all! The ‘Too Young’ art card is H’s rose tattoo, ‘Habit’ and ‘Fearless’ were both different variations of H’s anatomical heart tat (the ‘Habit’ one even included the word kind :{) ), and the We Made It rainbow wheel did, in fact, make it to Spotify, just like we thought! “Perfect Now” was Louis standing under a rainbow spotlight—they made that one black and white for spotify but the artist shared the original version. Harries were beside themselves, and tagged Jeff (Azoff), Ben Winston, and Gemma Styles (what?), demanding that they make Louis take the art down because it was clearly Harry art, which 1.) how much more blatant can you be if even ANTIS are noticing and 2.) what sort of control do they think Jeff, Ben, and Gemma have over Louis seeing as, uh, none of them currently work for him??? Weird, are they thinking there might be some kind of link... between Harry and his team and Louis... tell me more antis, truly, I’m fascinated!

One would think that’s more than enough for one day but WAIT THERE’S MORE Zayn is in EXCELLENT quirky Zayn form having fun with his own merch—he posted a gremlin (from the old RL Stine movie ‘Gremlins’) in a NIL beanie captioned “one size fits all humanoid shaped heads” late last night, haaaaa. Yes, I agree! The red stitching really makes the gremlin’s red eyes pop, and his fangs have never looked this good! And the question arose, is Harry’s finsta actually just his side account for following nothing but gay meme accounts? Evidence—the discovery of a second follow, of the openlygayanimals account-- would suggest yes! Well that’s valid, imagine having to not only navigate the internet AS HARRY but also without funny memes of your choice, that’s no life to lead. And Niall complained on twitter that people didn’t understand his sense of humor because SARCASM! He also tweeted about golf, which I’m sure was cool for people who understand it.

Is today's biggest story really a pair of socks I mean WHY NOT am I right, that may as well happen! With impeccable timing, as the fandom and the world went bananas about Ho-livia WildStyle (a drag queen name for the ages right there), the first of the limited edition TPWK socks that people ordered basically on blind faith (you fully couldn't tell what they were going to look like at all on the website, and now we know why lmao) have arrived with a bang: they seemed to come with either blue or pink hearts, but in fact it turns out you get one of two color combos, either pink and white or, uh: BLUE AND GREEN HEARTS. I'm not one to carry on about like jeans and a green shirt or what have you but this is a CHOICE, and if the antis don't have performative burnings of their evil larrie merch honestly WHAT is the POINT; the resale market of the limited edition socks is already booming though so there's always that option, if either side can bear to conduct business across the divide. My question is, did they really time it to play out this precisely on purpose? Unlikely tbh, but if that's a thing they're capable of I have some THOUGHTS about the way other Harry merch takes like 4 months to arrive...

Larrie socks aside however, the real discourse continues to be about you-know-what, with the players out there fanning the flames wildly. There's too much nonsense to bother with it all (the quoted sources in the articles directly contradicting each other's stories also makes it difficult) so let's just... *spins wheel*....okay I landed on 'tabloids say Harry's wedding speech talked about his girlfriend Olivia' here goes. Sjksdfjks WHY would you be talking about your girlfriend of three weeks in a speech for your close friends' wedding, OMG, how uncomfortable and inappropriate is that?? Imagine if any of this were real, that Harry ('I'd take my time and make sure a thing was serious before telling people about it', end quote, I mean that's ALSO a stunt quote (oh the layers) but just pointing out that it's contradictory) starts dating his co-worker who just got out of a huge relationship and is also a famous person with presumably an interest in privacy, and immediately the two of you get to work setting up a big reveal to happen right away (even in a weird fantasy world where any of this is real the possibility that JEFF AZOFF'S WEDDING had the paps present for any other reason than to do EXACTLY what they were told is flat impossible- what pap or celeb outlet can afford to be on Jeff's bad list?!) and then he casually writes her into his speech (a guy who's so anxious and shy about public speaking and what to say that he begs people to write speeches for him and practices endlessly) uh huh, sure Jan. There are so many things about this that are ludicrous, but more to the point, none of the things they're saying hold up to scrutiny any better than this. There just isn't any point in taking them that seriously though; Harry is a closeted artist and, just like the many queer artists that came before him who he repeatedly reminds us are his icons, he both lets us know all day every day in a million ways that he's queer, and also plays the industry game and winkingly gives the press their Straight Guy Harry fodder. You don't have to like it, or indeed anything at all in this world, but people do need to accept that whether they like it or not is neither the point nor anyone (including Harry)'s responsibility to respond to or do anything about.

Like I said I can't cover every detail but! I always have a little space for the absurd: today, our best entrant is the possibility that the whole wedding we saw was a sham– fans ask, was this public spectacle Jeff and Glenne's actual wedding? Listen if anyone would be up for it it would be this crew, and if they did stage it I'm sure they had a good laugh! Suspicion has been cast on Glenne's dress (allegedly an untailored 2018 off the rack number), the small guest list (wouldn't they just wait and have a huge event?), and the fact that they invited paps there at all. It would make the no explanation robe pics EVEN FUNNIER though if you imagine that was for our benefit but left totally unadressed (undressed). ANYWAY Don't Worry Darling filming is back in business and Harry was papped some more today, out for a casual not at all pap walk hike with a work associate and multiple items of his own merch (including an unreleased hoodie design.) On the topic of DWD, sometimes a different perspective can be interesting-- for example considering whether Harry is the point of all this at all? Or is he but a bit player in the real DWD publicity drama, an elaborate and very public dramatic reconciliation between Olivia and her ex husband? Either way, he's neither a clueless dupe, a helpless pawn, or anyone's 'boy toy', so please: can we rein in the hand wringing and pointless Olivia bashing a bit?

Let's talk about something else shall we? For example! Liam's setlist, just released for the upcoming LP Show Act 4. Look at that song selection! Fireproof! Strong!! Through The Dark!! More exciting 1D faves! Plus Slow and Home With You off his EP, NICE, singles and more, it looks awesome. The Hugo Man fragrance relaunch is less exciting, featuring the dopiest possible articles full of chat about his skin care routine (oh shucks I'm just  manly man, I don't have one at all... *names two products and refers to 'multiple moisturizers'*), trademark accidental candor (“I’m quite tired!”), and of course trying to describe a fragrance, always an entertaining gymnastics (“every time I spray it, it kind of takes me back to being on that rooftop in Berlin”), but also there are manly new pics of Lia.

A new song Niall co-wrote is coming out! The JC Stewart song, Break My Heart, will be out this Fri! Charlie Lightening posted pics from a year ago on the Walls music video set, featuring an intent Louis in the sun (and fashion voter underrated excellent Looks), and Louis commented on Dave Allen's post (“top man!”)-- the famous boxer is offering to help friends through lockdown by facetiming 3or 4 people a day for home workouts, damn, and also aww. That shitty Doncaster secondary school turned out some really sweet dudes, against all odds tbh. With Los Angeles experiencing some of the worst COVID surges we've seen since the beginning of the pandemic, Grammys organizers have elected to postpone the (already limited) ceremony. Originally scheduled for Jan 31 it is now TBA, tentatively for March. Harry's stalker, who menaced him in and near his London home in 2019, is being charged with violating his restraining order by attempting to contact Harry via social media, Global Fund for Women thanked Harry for donating, and HLDaily and other accounts were suspended for posting pap pics, always a risk, but one trick potato Jeff is on the job; HSD is back up and running, cause they can't have a proper stunt season without their most faithful mouthpieces. Niall continues to vote for himself on twitter threads about what to listen to in the New Year.

I have read a post saying that Grrm is supporting Dany crusade which can be seen in his work Fevre Dream. Something about Dany ending slavery through Fire and Blood is necessary because peacefully it can't be ended.

Ohhh that's a classic from targies. They love to use this quote from Fevre Dream to justify their fave's campaign in Slaver's Bay:

And why was Abner Marsh talking that way about the end of slavery with Toby? Well, because he knew how the vampires treated human beings, no matter their skin color. He knew how the vampires treated human beings as slaves. Vampires called humans "The cattle." For Vampires, humans were prey.

I can’t write, and no one’s inclined to read, an entire dissertation lol but this is important to me so I’ll attempt to nutshell hold my beer:

This is truly the character for the person that wants to experience it all. I always thought Armand was AR’s most tragic and complex creation, and I figure the only reason he managed to (mostly) avoid the fate of Lestat, and to an extent, Louis, is because he wasn’t a self-insert (I still love them though). And as much I would’ve LOVED more of him in the later books, I’m glad my boy didn’t get completely massacred.

After his cult is destroyed, he’s always trying to learn and grow, to an almost maniacal, obsessive degree. He desperately wants to recapture some sense of time and have a place in the world. From tearing through Lestat’s books in the tower to exploring the human world with Daniel, and still making an effort to be part of it and live among humans in the later books. His thirst for knowledge captivates me.

Armand knows how to play every one of his strengths to his advantage. This is the man with the plan. He’s cunning, willful, tenacious, patient, charming, ruthless, resilient, sensual, evocative—whatever he needs to be. He can be just as expressive and emotive as he can be detached and closed-off. Survival tactics when he had no other choice, but he’s learned to balance the ratios a bit now.

After everything, he’s trying to do better. He knows he’s no saint, and he never thought he was. Marius did. The level of character development—going from what Lestat found in a filthy cemetery in TVL to QotD, through MtD and TVA, to end up where he does by end of the series—is unmatched in VC. Even exhausted, depressed, heartbroken, and defeated throughout the centuries (and then surviving his suicide attempt) Armand pushes on and is finally able to create a lasting home with a family for himself. That resonates with me deeply.

Almost 300 years later and, as much as he absolutely adores the idiot, he’s still calling Lestat out on his bullshit even by the end of the series. This is important. Someone has to carry the braincells in that coven, sorry babe.

OH MY GOD, oof, yeah, having had this "fun" experience before, I'm truly sorry you got this message, I mean, I'd feel like that about literally anything anyone's posting on social media in the year 2022, but especially anyone posting about One fucking DIRECTION seven years after they broke up. He absolutely IS a goofy dad, you're right, you should say it, I wonder which dumdum blouie's gonna come send me this kind of garbage, I'll leave you in the dogpile of my inbox with the other tragedies sharin' a sad wank in the clowncar that is this fandom, I'm sure your fave is real proud! Ahem. Anyway, the sad truth is that a bulk of people still living in the 2012 era have a hard time reconciling the differences between 1D fiction and 1D reality on just about every level (the hot takes I have on this one, so spice, and it's not just the BL "paradise" crowd), so there isn't a lot you can really *do* about it, but maybe these ideas will help?

1. Ignore. Just ghost and don't respond, don't block it, don't vague it, pretend you never got it...odds are they aren't even following you, they're just looking to start some shit. Pro: if they're a real person following you, they'll keep comin' back, lookin' for that sweet sweet release that will make them feel relevant yet will never, ever come. Con: they might keep coming back to harass you in your inbox, which is fucking annoying.

2. Block. This is somewhat effective but not entirely. My stinky traffic dropped off when I went hunting for that circle of monsters and proactively blocked them all BEFORE they could send it--search for something like who are your fave BL blogs or whatever, and go to town on block city. (I would take a look at the op of the post you added your tag to as well, maybe check out recent notes) Pro: you will magically prevent a lottttt of horseshit from coming your way. Con: you will catch glimpses of a hell you will never unsee.

3. Report. Especially in this case! I haven't seen if it actually works or not, though, so I don't really have a good pro/con answer here, and it could suck MIGHTILY if it turns out a favorite mutual sent this your way. (Which reminds me: check who's following you and do some preemptive blocking work that way, too.)

4. Turn off anon. I swear to god, this works, jesus, they're such cowards.

5. Firehose. Depending on how petty you're feeling, BURY your feed in dilf Louis content. There are blogs that specialize in spank hands daddy Louis, goofy drunk bbq dad Louis, actual dad Louis--reblog the FUCK out of all of 'em, give it a fun tag if you want (for my special anon who's into milfs), just spray a virtual firehose of daddy louis content until this person blocks YOU. Pro: you will jettison a lot of people, hopefully including whoever's lurking. Con: you will jettison a lot of people who probably enjoy other content you put on their dash, but oh well! There's a price to pettiness, always, so weigh that one out.
