Hey! I was diagnosed with FND four years ago and I didn’t even hear of anyone else having it until about a year ago. Honestly this blog just existing makes me excited because we’re not alone :)
Hey there! Thanks for reaching out :) Messages like this make my heart glad. I'm delighted that this has been a validating find for you. The isolation and loneliness of FND can be one of the hardest parts. There are thankfully some great FND communities out there. Twitter (I will not call it the other name :) ) has a good number of active FND folks, and the community is actually growing pretty nicely on Instagram too. Everyone's familiar with the social situation of FND in these communities, so there's little judgment and lots of solidarity. If you happen to use either of those platforms, feel free to give me a follow there or search some FND-related hashtags (#functionalneurologicaldisorder, #fndaware) and I'm sure folks will be delighted to say hi. As will I!

FND # 4 - Affects of FND (Part 2)
FND: Functional Neurological Disorder or as it is known to a few within the medical profession and those suffering. Is as it says on the title a functional issue. An Issue with the brain where message or electrical impulses do not go to the required section of the brain. This mainly happens during times of stress. I know an incredible woman called Amy, also known as @warriorprincessamy , who is battling CRPS and FND. Due to mental health issues, as a result of her diagnoses etc, has only just found the strength to share her story and journey so far. She is helping raise awareness which is so important. Please take time to watch her video by clicking the link on my profile page or by visiting: https://youtu.be/ul6CvX7lbzY x #warriorprincess #complexregionalpainsyndrome #crps #crpsawareness #crpswarrior #fndawareness #functionalneurologicaldisorder #fnd #mentalhealthawareness #chronicpain #chronicillness #spoonie #spinepainwarrior https://www.instagram.com/p/BtoUzCBHlbF/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1k2lfx99wu98s

Functional neurological disorder (FND) is a medical condition in which there is a problem with the functioning of the nervous system and how the brain and body sends and/or receives signals, rather than a structural disease process such as multiple sclerosis or stroke.

Although we all experience #FOMO at certain times of our lives, when living with #chronicillness, we don't fear missing out because we often are forced to face it. Instead, FOMO becomes the FEELING of missing out because, all too often, the debilitating and disabling #symptoms of living with illness force us onto the sidelines, watching instead of being able to experience or participate in the fun and frivolity. Or the feeling of missing out when not being invited or even thought of when those in our social circle organise a party or event, sometimes only finding out about it on social media. On a recent breakaway, I often missed out, seeing so many people going out enjoying walking the many different trails of the #NewForest but unable to experience it myself with my limited mobility and the tendency for my legs to give way suddenly. I felt lazy and unaccomplished, only being able to enjoy the confines of the beautiful log cabin we stayed in and the scenery just outside it. The feeling of missing out and the increasing isolation and loneliness of living with a chronic illness is a grief I don't think I could ever overcome or get used to. #spoonie #spoonielife #chronicillness #chronicpain #chronicfatigue #chroniclife #chronicillnesslife #wherethetiredgirlsare #chronicallyill #chronicallyillblogger #chronicillnessawarness #chronicillnessquotes #neurologicaldisorder #fndaware #fnd #functionalneurologicaldisorder https://www.instagram.com/p/CciQF2EKSmo/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Walking is a bit tricky at times, walking with more than one cup of tea, or a plate of food? Almost impossible on a bad mobility day. I've invested in this little trolley to help. Stuff for me on the top, Dylan's stuff on the bottom #fnd #fndlife #fndawareness #functionalneurologicaldisorder https://www.instagram.com/p/CJvpsn8pYjp/?igshid=13wfa10mj5lck

The stats speak for themselves. It's time to make your elected officials/MPs #FNDAware!
Fnd paitents live with changing symptoms like Parkinson’s disease and long term disability comparable to that with MS. More then 70% of FND paitents experience continuing and deteriorating symptoms after one year and over 40% are the same or worse after ten years.
Pedetric neurologist in the US and Canada have reported 66% less since March 2020 compared to pre pandemic.
It’s time you start making your state officials aware.
Ask for a meeting to learn more about the current platforms and request more awareness, funding, and research for Functional Neurological Disorder.
resources at https://fndhope.org/fndaware/.
You can also help us to spread awareness by sharing this post and tagging your elected officials.

I recently came across this quote on #Twitter and thought that it just brilliantly summed up the experience of living with #chronicillness perfectly. Because although there are good days, sometimes even wonderful days - pain and illness are still there, still a part of that memory and experience. In my experience, there is never a day when pain or the #symptoms of the #neurologicaldisorder I live with are not there; it is my full-time job, just one where I never have a break or a holiday entitlement, and which I work 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. This illness and these symptoms have now been a part of my life for so long, I can no longer recall what it felt like when they weren't there, or what it feels like to feel healthy, what it feels like to feel well. #spoonie #chronicpain #chroniclife #chronicallyill #invisibleillness #spoonielife #chronicillnessblogger #chronicallyillblogger #spooniecommunity #neisvoid #wherethetiredgirlsare #chronicillnesswarrior #chronicpainwarrior #chronicpainblogger #fnd #functionalneurologicaldisorder #fndaware #voices4fnd https://www.instagram.com/p/CqIM1NLtGp2/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

I've had an incredibly hard weekend health-wise! Both nasty Meniere's attacks and a black outs which resulted in a nasty fall on Friday and another black out Saturday! This again lead to a really bad depression throughout the weekend cause it's not easy to keep my mood up when so much goes on at once. When you're living with chronic illnesses, extreme migraines, sensory changes, tremors, numbness, pain, fatigue, dizziness, fluctuating hearing and black outs that comes out of the blue it becomes your normal everyday. Most of the time you have to work so extremely hard with yourself and your mental health, anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts, your more serious underlaying mental illness diagnosis like BPD and PTSD and try and stay happy and make the most of what life has to offer. Soldier on and enjoy the little things. The small moments where life actually feels good, like in this photo where I'm swimming (something I love! Although it's not great for my Meniere's)! I think i am quite good at doing exactly that, but I'm not going to lie, it's fucking hard to live. But this is the life I'm having and I'm lucky to have a life. I have people that loves me, I have a home, I have a supportive and loving husband, a beautiful daughter and great friends and family who all play a part in making this journey worth it. I hope for a cure one day, research is important and I hope that one day I'll be attack free and not scared of little things that i used to take for granted like going out on my own. It would be wonderful. #fndhope #functionalneurologicaldisorder #nead #nonepilepticseizures #nonepilepticattackdisorder #painsomnia #fndawareness #fndaction https://www.instagram.com/p/B3leSqogBmP/?igshid=16lj2dv88wvmf
