preston garvey is such an og bro, and yes for all the reasons you're thinking of but also because like, he literally led a whole group of people from Quincy to Jamaica Plain!! AND THEN ACROSS THE CHARLES RIVER TO LEXINGTON AND THEEN EVEN FURTHER UP NORTH TO CONCORD.

he was watching out for this group of people who had just been run out of their homes. he stayed with these refugees throughout every disastrous place they thought they'd be safe, every death, and just all that grieving; all while struggling with his own sense of purpose ("Everything I believed in had turned out to be a lie.") and feelings of being a failure, that led him to thinking he'd be better off dead :( plus, these people from Quincy were strangers to him at first. he didn't have to do all that, yet he took it upon himself to do so. because he's just built that way. he's too good for the damn wasteland. </3

and like even after all of that, he doesn't hang the Minuteman hat up. he keeps on going, pushing the boulder up the hill in hope of making the Commonwealth a better and safer place.

So, I'm at the stage again where we're building our way into the Institute.

And it go me thinking about something...

"Look… I fix stuff. I tinker. Bypassing security ain't exactly my forte."

Sturges, buddy, you can literally build a teleportation device from plans scribbled down by a big green dude, dig up information from a holo-tape (that you programmed to tap into the Institute's servers)...yet you're telling me you couldn't crack an old world museum terminal? aha...

"Yeah, I know what you're thinking. This guy's huge. Bet he could lift that minigun without stupid power armor. Nuh ah. No thanks. I don't do guns."

I'd put good caps on him deliberately flunking at hacking, knowing full well he's the only one with the knowhow and the capability to operate that suit of Power Armour! And he isn't about to say no if Preston or the others ask him for help.

So he's stalling! Doesn't want to be the one to "give those Raiders an express ticket to hell. You dig?"

When he meets the SoSu he doesn't know their history, but they wanna help so you bet he's selling the suit!

"A West Tek internalized servo-system, that's what. Inside that baby, super is the new normal. You'll be stronger, tougher, resistant to rads."

Hell I'll bet Mama Murphy even told him about her vision of the SoSu leaving the vault and coming to their rescue...and since Sturges was the only one to actually trust her visions enough to try and get some fire-support for Quincy, you bet he's gonna listen again!

So yeah...we all know those muscles are just for giving big bear hugs, big guy! But don't go pretending you can't bypass security!!

So I didn't actually get any requests for these specific characters that I can remember, but I had this in my WIPs folder, and had a good time looking back on them, so here they are!
