Quote
There has hardly ever been so much darkness and confusion as in the present age. People are muffled up in lies and falsehoods and, more often than not, chance and passing impressions are their only guides through the maze of present events. Illusions, and particularly the illusion of power, overawe everyone.
Nikolai Berdyaev, "Political Testament"

Ideology wants to convince you that its truth is absolute. A novel shows you that everything is relative. The more ideological our century becomes, the more anachronistic is the novel. But the more anachronistic it gets, the more we need it.

Note
To Janus:
With self-care being your thing, I figured you’d be the best one to ask: What can we do to help Logan with… certain things happening in the Thomasphere?
I’m sure you’ve seen the theories, and while none of them are guaranteed to be accurate… they don’t look pretty, either.
I’m worried about him. About all of you.
But I don’t want to cause harm by interfering - thought I’d ask the gatekeeper first.
I've seen the theories
I don't think itsss an issue, Logan looksss fine to me.
I've even sssspoken to Remusss about it, he sssaid it was alright.

The Quest for Buddhism (84)
Teachings to Singhala, the path of humanity - Avoid 14 evil ways
The 4 acts of defilement: Part 3 [So far]
Fourthly, 'falsehoods', that you must not tell lies and that telling lies is a defilement of conduct. One should tell the truth. So when one does not tell the truth, it becomes a lie, a falsehood. However, this is a difficult problem in reality.
For example, if you are threatened by a bad person, you may not tell them the truth about a number of things. Or, towards someone who is very ill, you may reply: 'Your illness is mild, stay strong'. This is a lie that you tell because you have love and care towards the other person.
How should we view these lies?
Even in this scripture, a truly enlightened person will not speak or tell if it is not for the benefit of the other person. However, it is taught that if it is for the person's sake, one may dare to say something, even if it makes the person uncomfortable.
Ultimately, the basis for this comes from "sincerity". So if you have a sincerity of purpose, you will not lie to others.
In the Buddhist scriptures, not lying is described as 'truth' or 'sincerity'.

Quote
From a higher point of view, untruth has a much worse side than the usual one. It is the foundation of a false world — the foundation of a chain of errors and confusions that cannot be undone. [...] One untruth gives birth to countless others. An absolutely posited untruth is so infinitely difficult to expunge.
Novalis, Logological Fragments II
