Ya’ll!
I wanna conversate with all 42 of you!! (when did that happen, last I checked, I had 20 lol thank you for the follows btw!)
But let’s discuss some things!
Reblog this with your favorite song(s) in general, and tell me why! I wanna hear what kind of songs you all enjoy!
(This all ends up being just a list of my favorite kpop songs, just warning you all)
I’ll start~
1. 144340 - BTS
This song just spoke to volumes to me. I was gonna go with The Truth Untold, but this one has been on my mind a lot lately. I love the sound, how chill it is, and listening to it a first time, you’d think just that. It’s chill. And it is. But listening a second time, you notice something in their voice in which you missed the first time. Is it anguish? Pain? But you feel something different. Then reading the lyrics, it came together.
THEIR VOICES OMG OKAY- So I love me some vocals. I love me some raps. The rapping was amazing, it flowed so nicely. I love how the raps, and vocals alike, started with softer tones, and as it went on, they got stronger. But the strong was accompanied by the soft, and it complimented the sound as a whole. I just really love this song and I can go on about how beautiful this song is don’t @ me.
2. Tempo - EXO
OKAY LISTEN
FIRST OFF, I linked both the Korean and the Chinese on there
Second...
BIIIIIIIIIIIIITCH
BIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIITCH
BIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIITCH
SEHUN WENT OOOOOOOOOOOFF
I’M SO FUCKING HAPPY I LOVE MY TALENTED SON
Okay now that I got that out of the way
The song wasn’t what I expected, but I was pleasantly surprised, because... I wasn’t sure what I was expecting. But I loved it.
The music video is so aesthetically pleasing, the song as a whole is just so- I can’t explain it. The song seems easy vocal wise, and I love it, because it allows room for them to focus on the dance when performing live. The adlibs in the back are so good. Chanyeol and Sehun’s rap was amazing, Kai’s dance it on pOINT- vocal line really fucking making me second guess my sexuality tbh
I love Suho going “Baby girl~” he just sounds cute- and the way he says “Morning Call” during that one dance move with his shoulders doing some version of the shimmy shimmy and i died, Suho’s so cute
Minseok with that hair though boi pls (I kid pls don’t hurt me--)
Lay didn’t sing in the Korean, and I was gonna fight SM myself if he wasn’t on the Chinese version.
3. One Of These Nights - Red Velvet
Okay, this song is hella emotional. Like, the first time I heard it, I cried. So hard. I had no idea what the song was saying, but the imagery of the music video told a story I understood, but didn’t at the same time.
Then I looked at Theory videos, and the song just impacted me more in a way that just crushed my soul. The song is beautiful, their voices are so melodic and blissful, yet pained and full of longing. This is a song that’s really stuck in my heart, and just- Ugh, I can’t with this song. Wendy’s voice is so strong, Seulgi is a good blend of soft and strong, Irene is very angelic, and both Yeri and Joy have a very sweet tone. I love the production of the song so much. Their voices are beautifully complimented by the hauntingly beautiful instrumental. I just really fucking love this song.
4. Siren - Sunmi
So, Sunmi. Sunmi is a very beautiful being. Her solo songs have been wonderful, and I love each and every one of them.
Siren, though. Siren really snatched my heart.
Powerful vocals with an 80s vibe to the song?? SIGN ME THE FUCK UP--
I love the concept this song took! Took me a while Siren being a play on words for both the aquatic being and the ringing noise from police cars and shit lol I was slow
But the imagery of the video was astounding, Sunmi looked like a goddess, vocals on point as always, and just- ugh- I love her so much I can’t--
5. Hann - G-Idle
The biggest Fuck You song I’ve heard in a while. And I love it so much.
First off, I really think Shuhua should get more lines. But I love the way the song worked. It’s so powerful, and strong, and SOOYEON’S RAP SLAYED ME COMPLETELY
Out of all of them, I believe YuQi has a very unique voice. It’s rare to hear someone in kpop to have such a deep voice like that, and I love it so much. She shocked me when she sang in Latata, and the shock came again in Hann. I hope the best for these girls, honestly.
6. What Is Love? - Twice
Okay...
There is so much gay in this, my lesbian heart couldn’t handle it.
The concept was so fucking cute! I love that the girls played each other’s love interest when they could have easily hired men to play the parts. But no, they went with this approach, and I love it. The movie references were amazing, the girls had such a sweet and sincere longing for true love to find them, it attacked my heart--
Also, Jihyo slayed me- She’s my ult bias, and I just ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
BONUS
The Last Blossom - Yanan and Jun (Originally by Faye Wong)
What I picked up from the song is that idols are merely human, and us idolizing them the way we do now is futile, because, again... they’re humans. And at some point, they could end up disappointing us standard-wise, and that we shouldn’t hold them to such high standards.
The original is so raw, and emotion inducing. Faye has such a impacting voice, so genuine and harsh with these lyrics. Her message comes across so clear, and it’s what everyone should hear.
Yanan and Jun’s take on the song is so breath taking. Maybe because I associated it immediately to Yanan’s breakdown, and how Jun comforted him, but I could really feel it in their voices how this song just screams out a message to let us know that they’re merely human. They fall, they hurt, they cry, they mess up. Sometimes, they’re overwhelmed with their own success and making sure they better themselves to please an audience that’s probably gonna grow over them after some time, for a reason over the other.
Both versions scream this message. One’s raw vocal wise, and the other sounds sad and on the verge of wanting to give up. And I love every bit of both versions.

The Last Blossom (開到荼蘼)
English translation:
{the translations may not be accurate! pls any information contact me!}
Every ant has eyes and noses
Whether it is beautiful or not
Or misses by a few micrometer
What does it matter
Every human will cry when they are sad
Eat when they are hungry
Difference can't be bigger than Heaven and Earth
What excitement does it have
There is too much magic and too little reason
Too many games only because of curiosity
What other worth has it hysteria
Attitude towards everything, dead hope and collapsing to the ground
Each and every idol is also like that
Idol that was mesmerized with before disappear one by one
Who has one sinned greatly and who is god
What miracle are we waiting for
In the end there is only myself
Finally, I can't afford to look to every detail of myself
Whoever gives me the whole world, I will doubt
The heart is blooming, but it's open "Tu Mi"
Every ant has eyes and noses
Whether it is beautiful or not
Or misses by a few micrometer
What does it matter
There is too much magic and too little reason
Too many games only because of curiosity
What other worth has it hysteria
Attitude towards everything, dead hope and collapsing to the ground
Each and every idol is also like that
Idol that was mesmerized with before disappear one by one
Who has one sinned greatly and who is god
What miracle are we waiting for
In the end there is only myself
Finally, I can't afford to look to every detail of myself
Whoever gives me the whole world, I will doubt
The heart is blooming, but it's open "Tu Mi"
One by one, who is more beautiful
One by one, who is sweeter than whom
One by one, who is easier than anyone
What's the big deal
One by one, who is more beautiful
One by one, who is sweeter than whom
One by one, who is easier than anyone
What's the big deal
Who is each ant passing by
It's all so neat, what does it matter?
Every human, when meeting the person that is loved
Instead will palpitate with fear

rules: tag nine people you want to get to know better
tagged by @thorniest-rose Thank you! 😊
favorite color: I can never answer this question, but it’s summer so let’s go with neons. One of my favorite nail polishes is highlighter yellow (Cirque Colors “Electric Daisy” - highly recommended).
currently reading: Absolutely nothing because I’m lazy
last song: The Last Blossom by Faye Wong
last movie: The Fear Street trilogy. I had reservations when I heard the word “witch” but the story ended up being more involved than I expected, and I really enjoyed it.
last series: Finally watched Loki and also loved it. It’s like pulling teeth making me do anything
sweet, spicy or savory: I love all food, but have a bad sweet tooth. I’m always snacking on sugar.
craving: A long, rainy day. None of this 5 minute shower crap. That’s for the birds.
coffee or tea: I drink too much coffee. I started making my own iced coffee and now I have 4 cups of iced coffee and 2 cups of hot coffee a day. Am I more awake? No. But that’s life.
currently working on: Not really anything. My brain has been lost for weeks now and I’m getting tired. 🙃

Just Only One Faye (1999)
* SOME REVISIONS TO SPELLING/GRAMMAR/WORDING * by Liu Jie Qi
Intro: Normally when Faye Wong releases her albums, it causes the marketing department of her record company headaches because she is not too enthusiastic about doing many interviews and photo shoots. At most, she will only do a Q&A kind of interview for her record company to use as promotion. Is she cooperating this time? It’s up to you to decide.
Even so, Faye is still a brand name in the pop music scene. Her latest album, ONLY LOVE STRANGERS, already topped our local best selling chart at the #1 position for 4 continuous weeks since it was first released. Faye is still Faye. There is just only one Faye.
Report: Last September, during my trip to Hong Kong to interview Faye, it was not a bad experience. Her friendly, cheerful and very cooperative attitude makes the many negative reports on her refute themselves.
The fact is, it is a matter of respect between people. For example, other artists may think that these things are inevitably standard in the entertainment industry and will give in to their manager’s demands and requests. But Faye is not like other people. Faye is still Faye. What she wants to do and who and how she loves is really not the business of anyone but herself. This is because at the end of the day, she only needs to be responsible for herself. We always knew that Faye is afraid of doing interviews, thus this interview is purely trying our luck. We received Faye’s tape before she left Hong Kong for Taiwan to lend her assistance for charity programs after the earthquake in Taiwan. Her replies were easy-going and relaxed, with lots of laughter and her mood was beautiful. Q: Except for “Spectacular” in this new album, unlike your previous albums, there were not many of your own compositions, is there any special reason?
Faye: The main reason is because there was not much inspiration to write. There are no other reasons.
Q: Your daughter Tong Tong appears again in your song. It’s very fun and innocent laughter. Was this your idea? Will she be a frequent guest in your future songs? Is this a way of bringing your loved ones into your working world?
Faye: Tong Tong in "Only Love Strangers” is only dialogue. It was purely a sudden thought. There was no planning and no arrangements. It was only when I was reading through this song, there was this line that actually was supposed to have been said by Dou Ying (Dou Wei's sister, Faye's backup vocalist), and I just thought of letting Tong Tong say it instead. There is no complicated reason behind it.
Q: From some reports, it seems like you do not really like the song "Spectacular". Is this true? Is there any special reason for putting this song into your album?
Faye: This song has a very personal feeling. This is the only song that I am involved in the making of. I feel that among all my compositions, this song is not the most satisfied, so there’s nothing wrong with that, right? haha! But the songs I don’t like doesn't mean that others don’t like it, right? Normally those that I don’t like, others will like. hahaha...
Q: In the album, more than half of the songs are written by Lin Xi. Do you especially like his writing? What about his lyrics that attracts you?
Faye: I have always liked Lin Xi’s lyrics all along. This is because we have been working together for a very long time already. Every time I receive his lyrics, there are always elements of surprise. His way of writing is often very special. In fact, you do not really understand what he is trying to say, but you can feel that feeling and scene that he is trying to convey. I like this kind of method. Besides his words are all very unique.
Q: In "The Moon at That Moment" MV, you have 5 different images. May I ask which is the real you?
Faye: (cheekily) Every one of them is me. I can wear different outfits everyday. Haha.
Q: In the “Spectacular" MV, the filming consists partially of past memories. Do you have any feelings about your childhood years? Do you have nostalgia remembering past events? That kind of feeling?
Faye: Actually when filming, of course there were some moments. For example, when doing the somersaults, it reminded me of my days in physical education classes. But I was not immersed in past memories throughout the filming of the entire MV. It’s not that serious lah!
Q: Are you one who only looks forward and always walk towards the future? Is there any person or thing that will make you stop for a while and look back and think for a while?
Faye: I think I cannot control this. Sometimes I don’t think I’m a “always look forward and never turn back” type of person.  I quite often will turn back and see. I think everyone is the same way, right? But after looking back, you can only continue to walk forward. Sometimes, stop for a while and look, think for a while, you can say it’s kind of adjusting our mood. One kind of feeling that we need I guess. But no matter what, everyone still needs to continue to walk forward.
Q: Recently, are you busy with filming Wong Kar Wai’s movie "2046"? It has been a few years since you last worked with him. Do you have any different feelings?
Faye: Although it’s been a few years since we worked together, but because we have one experience of working together on "Chungking Express", I can better understand what he really wants. There's more chemistry and I can better understand the situations I guess. Because the last time, I really totally did not know what was going on. But I feel this may be what the director wants. Maybe he hopes that I never know what is happening. Faye's Chat Room:
Q: Which song do you have the most feeling for in the new album?
Faye: Many ah! I like "Last Blossom", the music arrangement overall is very good.
Q: What about "The Moon at That Moment"?
Faye : It expresses the kind of feeling like time is lost. We forever cannot see the past and future of ourselves. If "they" could be together, what is that feeling? This MV has many different Faye’s to bring out this concept. Many shots by the director required calculations and markings to be made beforehand, then later the computer handled it. The filming was tough, but very fun.
Q: You give people the feeling that you are very cool, so why would you agree to go underwater in the "Spectacular" MV?
Faye: As long as it’s reasonable and goes with the content, I can accept it. Actually, I am an active person.
Q: You once said "I am not an idol, do not worship me". Why?
Faye: Idols at least have to set a good example. I am only a normal person. I don’t feel that I’m a good example. I have my faults.
Q: From the past to now, do you feel any changes in your singing?
Faye: In the past, I focused more on the singing techniques and type of singing, but now I place more importance on my feelings towards the music. Singing out my feelings is more important.
Q: Any plans for the future ?
Faye: I never have plans. Even if I have them, they keep on changing. I’m more of a let everything happen naturally type. I don’t like to purposely do something. If I reach a time when I do not want to sing, then I won’t sing.
Q: Any dreams?
Faye: My dream is to be happy and hope all things go well. Although it is simply a few words, but it’s hard for it to come true. I treasure all things that I have now.

I have recently started learning mandarin by myself since my school doesn’t offer any classes, I was wondering if you have any tips for studying or websites that I could use?
Hi there, sorry I took so long to answer this because this answer took me a really long time to compile 😂 First of all, great to know you are learning Chinese! Actually Mandarin is just a spoken form of Chinese, but I assume you are planning to learn how to read and write Chinese as well :D I’ve received quite a few questions about learning Chinese ever since I started this blog, so I thought I should write a detailed answer about this.
LONG ANSWER AHEAD
Before you start, do note there are actually two sets of (overlapping) Chinese characters out there,
1. Traditional Chinese characters (used in Taiwan and Hong Kong)
2. Simplified Chinese characters (used in Mainland China, Singapore and Malaysia).
I’m from Singapore so I learned simplified Chinese, I can generally read traditional Chinese as well though I have great difficulty writing them because I’m too used to simplified characters 😂😂 You don’t have to learn both, but it’s good to know the difference since you will probably encounter both types of characters at some point when you are studying Chinese/ consuming Chinese entertainment.
I definitely recommend learning Hanyu pinyin to help with the pronunciation of the words, but do note that pinyin is neither the Chinese alphabet nor meant to be a substitute for Chinese characters. There is no alphabet for Chinese… we do have Chinese radicals (further explained here) which is not really an alphabet but more like components of a character 🤔 For the most part, to learn Chinese characters you have to memorise them. Maybe you can set yourself a goal of memorising a few characters a day to kickstart the process, actually if possible I would recommend getting a Chinese copy book/app like this one:
Tumblr media
Writing the characters over and over is the best way to remember the words imo, also this will help you practise your handwriting!
A good dictionary is a must, for Chinese-English dictionaries the best one I have tried so far is the app Pleco. I used to have this book of 成语 (Chinese idioms) and 俗语 (Chinese sayings) as well that I had to memorise for school, but I think you can just learn them online (found some here) if you want :D You should probably wait till your Chinese reaches intermediate~advanced level before starting on those though, if not the whole thing might be kind of confusing.
For websites, I have never tried learning Chinese online before so I don’t have first-hand experience of any of the online Chinese learning sites, but I did find this list of online resources for learning Chinese which is really comprehensive. it covers sites and apps for everything from reading and writing Chinese characters to all types of podcasts. Actually you know what, there are more resources available online than I thought, there are even apps for you to connect to native Chinese speakers (I didn’t even know those existed until I wrote this answer) 👀 That list of sites and apps pretty much covers every aspect of learning Chinese so I don’t have much else to add tbh 😂😂 Just gonna recommend some entertainment options that will hopefully make your learning process more enjoyable!
(Below are mostly my personal song/ show/ manhua recommendations)
For songs there are really way too many so it’s kind of hard to draw up a list, maybe you can start with the songs of some of the more famous artistes like Jay Chou, A-mei, Eason Chan, Faye Wong, Mayday, Stefani Sun, Jam Hsiao… You can search for Mandopop playlists on Spotify for a start! I’m personally quite fond of 逃跑计划, Lala Hsu and 陈粒’s songs.
Also randomly recommending 夜空中最亮的星 and 平凡之路 because they are my favourite songs (夜空中最亮的星 almost made me cry the first time I heard it, even now after listening to it for so many times it still gives me the same feeling 👵🏻).
For dramas my favourite drama by far is Nirvana in Fire (琅琊榜), which imo is the best drama I’ve ever watched. My sister and I were obsessed with this show and recommended it to all our friends, it was so good!!
Tumblr media
(side note I think Hu Ge’s face is especially suited for historical dramas)
Some other dramas I liked were Ode to Joy, The Fierce wife (Taiwanese) and The Legend of Zhen Huan, Nirvana in Fire Season 2 was also just released this year! My friend recommends Tens Miles of Peach Blossoms which she said made her cry a lot, and I think Yang Mi’s latest drama The Negotiator is quite popular too though I haven’t watched it yet. I actually don’t have a lot of dramas to recommend because I don’t really watch them 😂😂 But coming from someone who don’t particularly like watching dramas, Nirvana in Fire is really so freaking good…
Anyway besides songs and dramas, my other recommendations are 1) Web novels and 2) Manhua.
I highly recommend reading web novels (I mostly read on them on qidian), the Chinese web novel community is seriously gigantic and I’ve honestly only explored a very very very tiny fraction of their offerings because there are so many popular web novels out there. Btw even if you can’t read Chinese there are English sites (webnovel l wuxiaworld) where you can read the Chinese web novels translated into English for free, so you can enjoy them regardless of your Chinese abilities :D One well-known novel on both the English and Chinese site is The King’s Avatar (全职高手), which was made into a gorgeous Chinese anime last year
Tumblr media
First episode here!
Btw if you download the qidian app they have this audio book function that I thought was pretty handy, you can listen to your favourite novels being read to you ->
Tumblr media
(Click 听书 and it will lead to the audio)
Tumblr media
(One of my favourite novels 惊悚乐园/Thriller Paradise!)
For manhua I mostly read my manhua on kuaikanmanhua, 腾讯动漫 and occasionally dongmanmanhua. I made a short list of BL recommendations previously here, some other non-BL manhua I’m currently following are:
DOLO命运胶囊 (the art for this series is really beautiful)
女王的手术刀
哥哥是大笨蛋
看脸时代 (This one is Korean and really popular, it’s translated into English as well under the title Lookism but personally I prefer the Chinese translation)
A friend of mine recommended Duoluo Dalu (novel here) and Battle Through The Heavens (novel here) which I haven’t read yet, but if I’m not wrong both series are popular 👀
That’s all I can think of for now! Kind of off topic but from the perspective of an overseas Chinese I think Mainland Chinese entertainment have improved a lot in recent years. When I was young I could only remember a few shows from China like 还珠格格, Journey to the West, and Return of the Condor Heroes, and my own childhood was dominated by Japanese manga and Taiwanese Mandopop/ idol dramas (that’s how I learned to read traditional Chinese lol). But now there is an increasing number of quality productions from China, which is great for someone like me who is fond of Chinese entertainment (sadly Singapore’s Chinese entertainment scene is pretty lacking and Hong Kong and Taiwan’s entertainment industry have been declining, Singapore is currently pretty much dominated by Kpop and K-dramas). Hopefully Chinese entertainment will continue to get better and better in the near future ^^
In any case this list is non-exhaustive, but my answer is getting way too long so I’ll just stop here. I’ll add any future recommendations under the recs tag, hope this helps!

2. Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody
3. Tori Amos - Talula (BT’s Tornado Mix)

10. MIYAVI - fuminshou no nemurihime
....this list is subject to CONSTANT change and re-evaluation past number 6. But that 6 has been consistent for like 15 years so I think it’s pretty solid at this point.
69. Do you play an instrument?
Ugh NO not really and trust me this is a massive point of bitterness in my life. I wanted to play violin as a kid, and my mom said nope you’re gonna play flute instead and lemme tell you with undiagnosed ADHD and no real passion for flute that thing was a BITCH to play. I mimed my first group recital then quit. Later in life I took guitar lessons for a year but my thick fingers were clumsy on the fret board and I couldn’t get the hang of it, though I can play a few chords. I can dabble on a keyboard but I can only play one hand at a time, like my fingers can’t get used to playing two different things where SOMETIMES the notes are played at the same time and other times they’re not. Like I can type, and I can do synchronized hand movements when dancing, but I can’t play piano cuz that’s kinda right in between those two things. It’s weird. Anyway, to answer the question... no. Lol
94. Favorite lyrics right now
It’s not a new song, but basically all of “Avalanche” by Bring Me The Horizon. There aren’t enough good songs out there about having undiagnosed ADHD and that song absolutely nailed it.
