Digimon Games | Digimon World Next Order
I do believe this card may be a reference to the King of Sukamon in Digimon World or the KingSukamon in Digimon World: Next Order. I could easily be wrong, of course.

EX-09 Extra Booster VERSUS MONSTERS releases June 26th, 2025
With the announcement of EX9, and the information that it'll be focusing on the original v-pet line, let's take a look at their line ups!
We got a little preview of five digimon cards, one for each version. These are almost in order of versions, but Ver.4 and Ver.5 are flipped, since these cards are in the order the individual colors have within the set. Most of you probably know this already, but originally Ultimate (jp. Perfect) i.e. Lv5, was the last level for Digimon to grow into. So these Lv5 Digimon would have been among the last Digimon you get in your original v-pets.
Since the Card Game is probably not gonna release a set leaving out Lv6 or Lv7 Digimon entirely, I whipped up some tables of the original rosters, as well as additions from the Ver.20th or COLOR remakes.
Each Version only has one Baby each, so I think we'll likely get all of these. In fact, with these line ups being rather small, I hope we will see most of these guys in the set! Only counting the originals, we have about 70 Digimon, which easily fits in the usual card limit of EX-Sets.
I also included names in these, since the sprites alone are hard to indetify for those not familiar with them.
First of, Version 1! This one was released in the classic reddish brown and greyish blue bricks, with some more colors released later.
With MetalGreymon (the OG Virus one) confirmed, we are likely going to get Agumon and Greymon. I think MetalGreymon going into BlitzGreymon, like both Ver.20th and COLOR did would be cool! I also think there is no way they can leave out Betamon!
Version 2 is in a funny spot, with many of these Digimon having received cards fairly recently. But then again, that'll still be a couple of sets before EX) releases. Also interestingly, this is the only card not featuring the "best" Lv5 one could have gotten in the v-pet.
Looking at Version 3's line up, while all of these Digimon have appeared in the card Game before, I feel like the haven't gotten a lot of representation. Except for the Sukamon + Etemon Archetype, although I wouldn't mind that getting some cards again.
Now Version 4 surely has a collection of oddballs. This one also had the most inconsistencies between Ver.20th and COLOR, with almost none of the Lv6 and Jogress Digimon being the same. It surely would be cool to get another Bloomlordmon, but aside from Palmon and maybe Piximon there's not much to build synergy with. I guess Ver.2 did have Vegiemon too...
Version 5 has some "bad boys" in its roster. I would love for ExTyrannomon and Gazimon to get another card personally. We just recently had a lot of Tyrannomon support, but that could eaither be build on further, or make them get excluded.
What do you guys think?
Who do you is a must have for the set? Or who do you think might get a stand in?

I love that MetalEtemon's return shows again that World's Strongest isn't an empty boast. In terms of raw brute strength, Etemon really is above-average for his level, both in Perfect and Mega. He broke Pinocchimon's strings, which WarGreymon couldn't do. He also overpowered SaberLeomon when they clashed and completely tanked an attack from SaberLeomon with no damage.
If he wasn't so cocky and goofy, he could have been a serious threat. He only used Dark Spirits Deluxe one time and it fatally injured SaberLeomon.
Just imagine if MetalEtemon had used Dark Spirits Deluxe more often, if he'd used Love Serenade, or could recreate the Dark Network. He'd be unstoppable.
Also, apparently there was a stage play episode of Tri that featured Etemon's return.
*nodnod*
Pound for pound, Etemon's a beast in both of his forms.
The Digimon Encyclopedia describes him as a battle-hungry wanderer who travels in search of powerful opponents so he can test his mettle by flexing them into the dirt. So his title has probably been thoroughly stress-tested, and it shows in his fights.
This is not a guy who brags about being the strongest but then cheats or runs away when the chips are down; This is a guy who brags about being the strongest because he earned that title through pixelized bloodshed.
The one thing that cost him in the end was his cockiness. This wasn't SaberLeomon's fight to win; It was MetalEtemon's fight to lose, and lose he did. If he didn't keep holding out his arms and letting people hit him with everything they've got, he would have won hands-down.
As a statblock, MetalEtemon was untouchable here. But that's where ingenuity and personality become critical factors in a fight.
Zudomon had no hope of winning a slugfest. But he was smart enough to stop and go, "Wait a second, he's just going to stand there and let me get free hits in whenever I swing? Okay, caution to the wind, what's the best free hit I could possibly throw for this situation?"
And MetalEtemon was arrogant enough to let him get away with it. If he fought like a challenger instead of like a defending champion, he would have wiped the board easily. But he got complacent.

I forgot to pause my DMC before work!!

Fucking RIP Etemon, I'm absolutely furious. I could have sworn I paused it before I went to sleep last night. I've been trying so hard to Jogress on this new wave of Digital Monster Colors but they always die on me before reaching Mega level. I have Machinedramon perpetually paused because I do not want to risk him dying before the Jogress and it seems that was the smart move.
I love the DMCs but it is SO MUCH harder to keep alive than a DM20, even with a traditional pause feature.

Digimon 02: D1 Tamers - Final Thoughts
Woohoo! I beat the Ryo trilogy :D -pops a party popper-
I didn't feel the need to make this multiple posts because this game is verrry similar to the last one (Tag Tamers). The main difference is that it's in glorious color! They also added a couple new features for better or for worse.
This game was fun and addicting just like the other two. There was just a little more grinding than I would hope for. The entire game took me 3 weeks to get through because of that. (Still not too shabby). Full thoughts below the cut.
Notes:
-The plot of this one felt kind of weird and forced. Firstly, I immediately got kind of confused about the chronology because the last game ended with Ken becoming the Digimon Emperor yet he's back to normal in this one. I guess either he hasn't progressed too much yet (it's only been a few days) or this is his IRL façade since we don't see him in the digi world. Anyways, the main plot is that Ryo has to fight in a tournament and if he wins said tournament then he'll become a soldier for the ~Harmonious Ones~ against Moon Millennium. I'm honestly not sure why the digi-Gods were included in this. They added nothing.
-Speaking of the Harmonious Ones, they ask you to pick one at the beginning of the game. I picked Qinglongmon because he was the only one I recognized lol. I'm not sure what the point of this choice was other than the fact that he shows up and says a couple things towards the end.
-Ken gets reduced to a guy-in-the-chair, but a very useful guy in the chair! I found the d-terminal way more handy this time around when it came to figuring out digivolution. Ken tells you exactly how many JP (Jogress points) you need to reach the next level. Honestly, it was a relief not having to tag team in this one too, that was kind of an annoying gimmick.
-Although jogress was still annoying in this game, they thankfully added an item that allows you to add +5 JPs to your digimon which made it so much easier to get some megas on my team. Also, digivolution and skills just felt more intuitive and happened faster this time around which is appreciated.
-I think they realized how OP stun was and nerfed it a bit. It's still a good feeling to win by stunning all the enemy digimon, but stun misses like 60% of the time, so you just waste your turn a lot of the time.
-Playing this right after Tag Tamers was pretty magical because I went from black and white to color (a Wizard of Oz moment). Although the inside of the dungeons were still very repetitive, the outsides were beautiful! (Showcasing some of my faves above).
-One stupid addition that made me mad was the D1 Tournament. This is a Digimon World-style AI vs. AI tournament where you just stare at the screen and hope your digimon win. It was just a slog to get through and I just wanted to get back to the dungeons. I really can't see the appeal in that sort of "gameplay." In fact, I fast forwarded or got up for a snack whenever it got to that part.
-Another lame part about this game is that you can't buy multiple items at once anymore! You could do it in Tag Tamers so why did they go backwards!? You seriously have to buy one item at a time. How dumb.
-I'm pretty proud of my final team: Metal Greymon, King Etemon, and AeroVeedramon. Metal Greymon had poison and curse, King Etemon had stun and AeroVeedramon had the best all-enemies attack. I could of gotten AeroVeedramon to mega as well, but I realized I didn't need to to win and it would have taken another few hours.
-There was a bit more variety in the dungeons compared to Tag Tamers. They all looked the same, but a lot of them had a gimmick. Some of them had puzzles or various ways you were supposed to interact with the bosses to progress. I'm glad they mixed things up a bit since the last game was really straightforward.
-Pretty hilarious that this game ends all ominously by being like "~And then we never saw Ryo again~" but then you hit the new game plus and Gennai's like "Ah, if it isn't Ryo!" Like, clearly the new game plus bit isn't part of the canon storyline, but it still made me chuckle.
-Apparently the only thing to do in new game plus is just continue raising digimon which...no thanks.
-I've heard that this acts as a prequel to Digimon Tamers which is so exciting! I'm glad that I'm doing things in the proper order. One more game (kinda-sorta?) and then I finally get to move on from Adventure 01/02 ;w;

Limbus Tamers
The limbus brainrot is terminal and digimon has been worming its way back so why not combine the two together. I’m not the biggest Digimon nerd (mainly watched some Adventure, 02 and Tamers and played Digimon world 3 and Cybersleuth) so I’ve been using Wikimon to help with the evolution lines, while yes I could just mix and max anything I tried to use Digimon that actually evolve into one another.
I may do another one with Dante, Charon and Vergilius plus any Sinner I want revisit. So onward to my dubious picks!
For Yi Sang I chose this line mostly for his desire to have wings and his association with crows. Plus Yatagaramon is cool.
For Faust I focused on her witch imagery, what with her base E.G.O. giving her a broom and her codename being Walpurgisnacht, and her vast knowledge with Impmon being a stand in for Mephistopheles (I know Mephismon exist I already had settled on witchmon and needed a rookie). AncientWisemon could have gone to Yi Sang since he invented the mirror we use to pull the gacha but it still have that sorcerer vibe.
For La Creatura I settled for the Guilmon line mostly because Gallantmon/Dukemon, being a Royal Knight, fitted with her knightly delusions and also because I remember Guilmon going feral at some points in Tamers. Plus if we go for Dark Digivolutions, when Don completely snaps she could go down the Megidramon (or even ChaosDukemon) route similarly to Takato.
I hesitated a bit with Ryoshu so I ended doing both ideas: I kinda cobbled this one together trying to concile her ties to fire (her E.G.O inflict burn, the “cooking” of the Kebab and that one picture of her burning everything using as her steed) and art with Etemon being a singer and Piedmon being a clown (and circus artist in general). Plus the Dark Master have throwing knives/swords.
This one was more was more based on her swordplay and the fact she’s ... ok maybe not “honourable” but she’d rather not do it the “coward’s way”, she straight up refused to disguise herself during the casino heist and wanted to face the Shi assassin head on in Canto IV. So Musyamon popped into my mind and then went up the evo line to try and keep the samurai/ronin theme and Kunemon is here because I couldn’t use Kotemon as it doesn’t digivolve into Musyamon.
Mr Salt got the Andromon line because he’s very robotic at times, a cog in the machine if you will, plus he is a tank of a man so Guardromon fits well. Also I thought it would be funny if somehow the machine Digimon ended up being more prone to make judgements than its human partner.
I didn’t know where to go with Hong Lu, I tried with the Devas and little more with Lopmon’s line then I saw QueenChessmon and went “Chess is pastime for hoity-toity rich folk and Hong Lu is a rich boy” and went from there. Not really satisfied but it just clicked in the moment. ... If Hong Lu is playing some 5d chess with us I SWEAR TO -
Another double feature with the other sinner with double seats privilege ... this was completely incidental. This one is based on the brutish side of Heathcliff though Ogremon can be cunning as can our angry british. Titamon is also connected to revenge (specifically against the Olympos XII) so it fits as well. I know Rebellimon doesn’t digivolve to Titamon but fuck it ! I didn’t want Digitamamon on here and that’s the only exception I made, I just wanted to keep mean green demon all the way.
This one came frame from a flash about Telepole Heathcliff and since He’s a bastard I couldn’t him give a regular Gabumon.
I just had to give Fishmael a Whamon because of Moby Dick. As for the rest: I picked Gomamon because I thought it’d be funny to have a laid back partner with how rigid she can be; Dolphmon to transition between Gomamon and Whamon and Plesiomon because it’s a traditional Mega for Gomamon alongside Vikemon.
I must admit being stumped and just going “Waifumon go !”. Might revisit her with a more fitting line sometime.
For Sinclair at first I wanted to give him an avian line then stumbled upon Tsukaimon digivolving into Pidmon and went “time to go the angel route” as a spin on Patamon. Outside of MagnaAngemon (and Angewomon for that matter) I tried not to use Adventure/02 digimon. I picked Dominimon but hesitated between it, ClavisAngemon and SlashAngemon.
For Outism I first wanted to have an Olympos XII member then wondered whether or not there was a trojan horse digimon, Lo and behold there was ! As for the rest I worked my way down : Cherrymon being a duplicitous tree (he tried to manipulate Yamato during the Dark Master arc) fit Outis being suspicious, kiwimon is kind of a filler pick and Alraumon is a fake Palmon.
Finally for Gregor I picked the Wormmon line though with some changes. I chose Snimon instead of Stingmon to harken to G Corp Gregor and while there’s a roachmon I felt it was too on the nose. As for Bloomlordmon I hesitated with going with GranKuwagamon or HeraclesKabuterimon but leaned more on this one mainly to distance a bit from bugs since Gregor has two plant based E.G.O.
That should be it for now.

Like several other digimon introduced on the DMOG Etemon’s sprites have been updated since it’s introduction, however somewhat uniquely the changes to Etemon’s sprites have been to make it more bipedal as opposed to changing its orientation or changing it’s core features to make it more accurate to the colour illustrations.

Can you write about a King Etemon with delusions of grandeur about one day ruling the digital world? When he meets his tamer, he quickly becomes enamored with her and starts courting her, wanting her to be his queen when his dream comes true.
KingEtemon with delusions of grandeur trying to court his fem Tamer
Truly, it had been his dream for some time to rule the Digital World. And one day he would, there were just a few preparations he needed before it could become true! He needed only a little more strength, and he needed someone by his side that he could trust. After all, ruling an entire world by yourself is pretty tough! He needs someone he can trust and love... and when his Tamer finally came to him, he knew that it HAD to be her!
After the first day of spending time together, he starts to set his plan of courting her into motion. He has to come across as suave and charming, lucky him that he's as handsome as he is, and his voice is still as amazing as ever. He takes off in the middle of the night to collect what he needed; flowers that grow by Digital moonlight! Some of the most beautiful flowers, only for his most beautiful Queen-to-be.
He starts out small, trying to not overwhelm her. Flowers first, and dropping little hints of his affections to her to see how she reacts. If it's received in a positive looking light, then bam! He's in. That's great! Starting off strong already, as he should. But he still needs to play the suave Digimon in this, not too difficult for a Digimon like him.
KingEtemon does tell his Tamer of his plans for the future, even if it sounds a little too out there. He doesn't care, he plans to accomplish it one way or another! He had a lot of adoring fans before, and if he can get more to agree and to see that he's the rightful King of Digimon, and even the Digital World, then he's halfway there! He needs his Tamer's help in realizing his dreams, in more way than one, but he'll be happy with whatever help she can give him!
Truly, he does a lot. He tries to keep it down-low, but he also goes a little too out there in winning her affections - even challenging Digimon he really didn't need to. But anything to show off that he'd make an amazing King, and an amazing partner by keeping her safe! She should see that he's the strongest out there, it's one of his attractive features after all! Apart from his actual looks!
KingEtemon simply tries to get her to see his way, and that he'd make an amazing partner and ruler, and he'd love to have her as his Queen when the time comes! It will fall into place eventually, he feels it! He just needs to get his name out there, and it will fall into place, along with his Tamer!

Review: Digimon Adventure: (2020) Episode 43: Clash, The King of Digimon
In this episode, Tailmon’s unreliable memories of the area lead everyone so far off the path they end up in a Scott Pilgrim scene.
You’d have to be a real grouch to complain about this one. It’s one of the silliest things we’ve seen in a long time, and if you can’t appreciate silly you’re probably in the wrong franchise. Everybody’s in peak comedic form here, with two classic bombastic villains unwillingly sharing the spotlight, unusual Digimon behavior that confounds everybody, and a resolution ridiculous enough for a premise like this. Heck, there’s even a tiny bit of plot progression as Tailmon’s memories and the appearance of another alternate evolution hang in the air for potential development. We’re having plenty of fun, but on the heels of such dry action, and the inevitability of more, it sure would be nice to know what we’re supposed to be expecting.
When you see Volcamon and Etemon’s names featured in the same episode, you have a pretty good idea of what to expect. This is going to be loud, showy, and subtle as pantomime. They deliver right from the get-go, Etemon stepping up his musical game with some really nice beats that also propel Volcamon’s exercise routine into top gear. Together they fight for the adoration of a crowd that just seems happy to have two rock stars to cheer for. It’s a high energy moment that’s easy to get lost in, enough to make you kinda wish they didn’t have to roll in the main cast to spoil the party. On a typical week, these two have more personality than all sixteen of them combined.
Still, it’s not like the Chosen Ones aren’t doing anything productive. Tailmon realizes the recent trauma inflicted on the continent has transformed it too much for her to recognize. If there was any indication they thought were going the right way over the last eight episodes, that would have been a neat little situation. It also pulls back the random data card Koshiro found in the trash. When we’re craving any scraps of disagreement between the kids, we’ll take the little exchange between him and Mimi over whether to plug the sucker in. It’s a shame that the data on the card effectively and conveniently cancels out Tailmon’s problem. They were never going to get proper attention in all the surrounding madness, but they were things for a moment.
Since their regular personalities aren’t going keep up with the likes of Etemon and Volcamon, the easy solution becomes the Digimon acting insanely erratic thanks to the sound wave interference. And… everything’s just going to be nuts for a bit. They can’t control their attacks, attitudes change, pelts are lost, and Tailmon’s feline instincts emerge. The kids don’t get much chance to have any reaction other than bewildered, but it is telling who attempts to fight with their malfunctioning Digimon anyway. You expect that sort of thing from Taichi (and thankfully fate doesn’t let that idiocy slide this time), but Sora and Joe just revealed something.
Despite her rash stance on data input, Mimi turns out to be the one with a brain, recognizing the nature of this conflict and how it’s more about Etemon and Volcamon one-upping each other than actual animosity towards the Chosen. We haven’t seen many instances of genuine clever ruses outside of the cunning battle tactics Taichi rode into the ground long ago. Mimi turns the two foes back against each other until Palmon sees an opening and jumps into the fray, feeding off the weird rhythms to evolve into Ponchomon instead. Where previous alternate evolutions were harder to justify either because the conditions didn’t seem that drastic or we didn’t see how the situation demanded it, this is about as ideal as it gets, as Togemon wasn’t about to out-shake these guys and the sound waves were clearly messing everybody up enough to produce a weird one like this. And in an episode as ridiculous as this, the resolution should be equally insane.
Were this a one-off breather in a brief transition between big plot hits, this would be a classic. After six episodes of nonsense, the effect is dulled considerably. After 36 episodes that have felt mostly pointless due to the lack of characterization, we’ve had 7 that have been absolutely pointless due to the lack of story. So fun as it was, even a silly episode that teases us being back on track lacks power as we still have no semblance of a point. Right now, until we somehow dive into that, this whole thing is nonsense, which can’t help but deflate times like this when it’s intentional.
My Grade: B
Loose Data:
Etemon appearing at all is a nice throwback, but making most of his die-hard fans Gazimon and Pagumon is an extra bonus.
They didn’t really use it other than to justify being attacked, but the kids gaining a reputation among the neutral Digimon population is a nice touch. Only Frontier has gone anywhere near this concept. Best part is that the reputation is less as fated heroes but rather a gang going around beating up strong Digimon, which has been far closer to the truth ever since they’ve been on this continent.
You know who’s the real rock star in withstanding all of that noise? Komondomon.
Tailmon chasing one of Gomamon’s fish was adorable, but everything about her pawing the Holy Ring on her tail demands calling out.
Everything Ponchomon does stands on its own, but it’s relieving they didn’t try to actually have her beat Etemon and Volcamon in a fair fight, tricking them to punch each other out first. Gotta watch these sorts of things since that would be a hell of a debut episode supercharge knowing this could easily be her only appearance.

Once again, Takeru’s screentime in the Etemon arc is fairly consistent, but consistently low. Most of my screencaps this time around are from groupshots. Sure, technically time that Takeru is on screen, buuut . . . .
The episode with the most Takeru is of course 14, where we’re still dealing with the aftermath of Angemon’s death, Poyomon hatches, and he finds the tags with Poyomon. Next highest is is 15 which has Tokomon’s evolution and Tokomon being kidnapped, though their isn’t as much Takeru here as you’d expect given these two events.
For the rest of the episodes Takeru is largely in the background. In terms of screentime that prominently features Takeru, 16 has the least. He has no solo shots in 16, two in episode 17, and also two in 18. However he has some super cute moments with the group in 18, so it’s a pretty good episode for Takeru.
While episode 19 is the episode where Takeru finds his crest, it’s also the episode where he appears onscreen the least, since he is completely absent in the second half. But he does get the most solo shots that he’s gotten since episode 15, so it balances out.
For the last episode of the arc that Takeru appears in (he’s obviously not in 21), he’s not on screen much here either, but is given good moments for the time he is there. He gets a cute little scene with the all the Digimon, and then spends most of the episode under the camouflage blanket while the big battle is happening (where’d they even get that?). He is able to get the blanket to the other kids so they can escape from Etemon, so he's able to help a little bit, which is nice.
All in all, an arc that’s light on Takeru. First episode of the next arc is Takeru focused though, so that’s fun. And by fun I mean painful. Episode 22 is suffering.

The roster of the Nature Spirits Pendulum V-Pet is a bit of a messy one, by virtue of when it was released: Autumn 1998 was when the first Digimon videogame was released (in fact, today, September 23rd, is the anniversary of its launch). In a span of 6 months, Digital Monster Ver.S for the Saturn, Pendulum 1.0, Digimon World for the PSX and Digital Monster Ver.WS for the Wonder Swan were released, all being V-Pets (even if World greatly expanded the gameplay). They were all in concurrent development, worked with a few similar mons... and only the Pendulum had the Ultimate stage. All 4 Nature Spirits Ultimates were featured as Perfects in those games. MetalEtemon was even just an Etemon recolor. SaberLeomon debuted as a Perfect in the Saturn game, and a month later it was an Ultimate evolving from Triceramon or Piccolomon. The remainder of the Pendulum releases were more stable in terms of levels, other than Metal Empire still borrowing World NPCs. And the weird levels of the video games have proceeded to be ignored; the Pendulum V-Pet is the moment the franchise stabilized.
Yeah, I've been looking up the games and it's all fascinating. Digimon World featured the first appearance of our next Dark Master Mugendramon, but because Ultimate stages weren't a thing he was a Perfect.

FEATURE: Why The Digimon Adventure Reboot's Identity Crisis Is Wonderful
Over the last few episodes of Digimon Adventure:, we've seen Mimi basically become a labor union boss, Digimon soccer, Gabumon be crucified and offered up as a ritual sacrifice to a Digimon named after a servant of the devil from German folklore, a Digimon go on a rampage because its favorite restaurant ran out of french fries, a not-so-veiled parody of Disney World, Etemon engaging in a rap battle, and a racing episode. On one hand, this has been kind of a fun diversion — not really a filler arc as much as a chance to throw the main cast into a bunch of different wild scenarios and play with what happens.
However, it's also been, like, the fourth diversion Digimon Adventure: has taken. To say the show has "evolved" would be disingenuous. Instead, it feels like a series trying on different hats, each one seemingly comfortable for different reasons. The initial trilogy of episodes that saw Tai meet Agumon/Greymon and climaxed with the birth of Omnimon was steeped in both homage and fresh energy, honoring the legacy of such films as Mamoru Hosoda's Digimon Adventure: Our War Game while also throwing audiences into the Digi-deep end. This was a show that could only exist after 20 prior years of Digimon history.

The next chunk of the show felt almost like a speed run of the original, with evolutions coming left and right as we cycled through all of the classic Champion and Ultimate forms Digimon Adventure fans grew to love back in 1999. It went through these at a breakneck pace, with a highlight being the show's stellar evolution sequences. But this transformation also made it clear that 2020's Digimon Adventure: was not 1999's. The latter show was full of Digimon and their partners hanging out, eating, and joking. The reboot, on the other hand, was concerned with action set pieces and the constant upheaval of villains.
Phase three concerned itself with plentiful talks about destiny and fate and world-ending scenarios (mostly involving a bunch of boats going out of control). This wasn't a surprising turn — the show's endgame seems to involve reuniting the "Holy Digimon," so of course it would go bananas making it clear how important someone like Angemon is, — but it did offer up a bunch of neat little aspects among its heavy lore build-up. For instance, I love the idea that Leomon is the leader of a team of Digimon freedom fighters. Perfectly fits his ridiculously noble character.

And finally, we hit the current incarnation which is about as slice-of-life as a show predicated on so much giant monster action can get. Even the end credits seem to reflect this, with the first and second ED's being about angsty Yamato and fun adventures, respectively, and the third and fourth devoting their imagery to showing the kids and Digimon chilling, playing, and dancing. Without the show making this final (as of this writing) adjustment, the third and fourth EDs would appear to be advertising a completely different series, but now they work well together.
So what does this mean for Digimon Adventure:? As I said, the first three episodes seemed tremendously confident, especially since the reboot was coming right off the end of the original series with Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna. It honored the series' roots while also blazing through Digimon iconography. I even wrote about how it was what an anime reboot "needs to be." But it's not that show anymore.

Over the past year, it's shown that maybe it didn't need to be for very long. So much of the original Digimon Adventure is wrapped up in my nostalgia for it and how its meaning has changed for me as I've grown up. Just as the role the Digimon played in the lives of the main characters changed as they grew up too. Comparisons between the original series and the 2020 reboot would become inevitable and likely constant if the series had stayed on some kind of set course. We'd compare their climaxes, their storytelling methods, their character arcs. By the end, we'd come to a firm conclusion about which one we liked more.
But by constantly changing the outlook of the show and giving it breathing room to be a variety of things, I find comparing them happens less and less. Digimon Adventure: became its own thing by being a variety of things. It's not the development I expected but it's a development I enjoy. Digimon has a long history and a wide array of monsters to pull from. Seeing its flagship anime playing around with what it wants to be makes me optimistic for the future of the franchise.

Digimon Adventure (Blind Watch) - Episode 22
Honestly, couldn't get over how cute Tokomon was in this episode. Lil house hippo 🥺Aside from the fact that he's a pudgy little blob, it's also really cute seeing such a weak creature taking on a caretaker role when Takeru is by himself.
All that praise aside (lol) the human characters pissed me off in this episode and everything felt pretty contrived. The visuals carried me through, but everyone was just acting so dumb.
Digimon introduced: PicoDevimon
Notes:
-I felt like everyone was acting out of character here. The gang splits up for no apparent reason with no plan for how to meet up again I guess? Also, they just decided "Etemon's gone, so we're good" but I thought they knew that there were more bad guys out there based on what they learned from Leomon and Gennai? (Well, I guess it was pretty vague). Like I guess splitting up to find Taichi kinda makes sense, but they JUST spoke to him via the computer last episode and KNEW he made it home? (Or was that just Koushiro?) Just...nothing makes sense.
-Second annoying thing was how easily Takeru fell for PicoDevimon's lies. I know he's a little kid, but in past episodes he's been pretty calm and collected for his age. Him falling for that felt like one of those other episodes where Taichi was really stupid for plot convenience. It just felt lazy. He also accepted that PicoDevimon was lying just as easily so his sudden trust for this stranger digimon felt even cheaper.
-You would think that PicoDevimon would be a henchman of Devimon but I guess not. According to the Digimon wiki, he does evolve into Devimon, so at least that adds up. I'm kinda surprised they use the "pico" prefix in this show a bunch instead of "puchi." I'm more used to hearing "puchi" in Japanese, but maybe it's too cutesy lol.
-The crying scenes were actually pretty heartbreaking. It's never fun watching a child being abandoned and they hit the emotional notes right at least.
-Nitpick, but it felt a little weird that they featured a Ferris wheel in this episode since there was one in the previous episode. Just feels like they could mix it up a bit more.
-Patamon got THRASHED in that fight scene! It felt more brutal than usual and I was kinda shook. I think the inspirational fight music made it worse lol
-The Gazimon getting messed up on shrooms made me laugh. The whole "whelp, our boss died...now what?" thing they have going on is pretty funny in general.
-I'm so confused. They called Takeru's crest "The Crest of Hope" at the end. Are we just not going to get a moment where they explain these random crest names? If they're just gonna pepper them in like that and not explain them ever I'mma be annoyed.
-The fact that they now need to collect the rest of the gang feels very contrived. They split up for no reason and made things more complicated than they needed to be! Ah well...the show's better when they focus on less characters at once so it's probably for the best.
