Okay Canadians, it's our turn to vote and we've got to try not to mess it up like certain other countries.
Election day is THIS MONDAY (APRIL 28TH).
If you are a Canadian citizen and at least 18, you can vote.
If you didn't advance vote / mail vote, then you must go on Monday. Check out [elections dot ca], all you need is your postal code and it will tell you where your voting station is and the hours. Lines were long in some places on day 1 of advance voting, but that's extremely rare. You should be in and out in 15 minutes tops normally.
You do not need to check registration or anything. You are probably registered if you have filed taxes and checked the box for election registration, but even if you have moved since then, it is fine. If you are not on their physical list already on Monday, they will add you in like 1 minute with your ID. It's easy. Trust me, for some reason I am perpetually not registered despite always checking the tax form box, so I go through it every election. It takes 60 seconds and they don't judge you.
You need to bring: your government photo ID OR 2 pieces of pseudo ID like a utility bill and your student ID where at least one has your address. If you have none of the above, but you have a friend who lives in the same polling station area, you can literally bring them and they are allowed to vouch for you and you just sign a declaration page that you are not doing voter fraud.
Have to work? You are legally required to have 3 consecutive hours to vote. If your shift somehow doesn't have 3 consecutive hours off during the time your polling station is open, your job must give you the extra time off with pay to make it 3 consecutive hours. It's on the elections canada page under the FAQ if you don't believe me.
Also I'm not saying your hockey team will lose in the playoffs if you don't vote, but I'm not not saying that either.
Summary:
-Check where to vote with postal code at elections dot ca
-Bring ID
-Global slide into facism? Bad. Voting? Good!
IT'S THIS MONDAY!!! DON'T FORGET!
#canadian politics#canadian election#canada#federal election#voting#international folks please remind your canadian friends to go do the voting thing#canadian folks let's not mess this one up#it's really easy to look at polling numbers and think your vote won't matter but uuhhh some other countries had people think that#and look how that turned out 🙃#do not be lulled into security by statistical guesses as the only thing that matters in the end is actual votes not answering a survey#i have been in a riding before where my candidate won by under 300 votes#things can be tighter than you expect#your vote matters dammit#also you are not allowed to complain to me about anything if you actively choose not to vote and then don't like the outcome

I keep seeing Americans call Pierre Poilievre center-right,
No he wasn't.
Let the record reflect that Peepee was decidedly NOT center-right.
The Canadian Conservative Party is, TYPICALLY, center-right. Which actually makes them closer in policy to your current DEMOCRAT party, Americans. That's the Canadian center-right. And there is for sure plenty of cabinet members in the Conservative Party that still align with that description.
Pierre Poilievre was decidedly pretty fucking far right wing in comparison to typical Canadian right-wing politics.
Again, for Americans so you understand, he was about at the degree of right-wing as Trump-- Trump during his FIRST term. 2016 Trump.
And I know you're all about to come at me in the comments like, "um, well, Trump wasn't actually that far right in his first--"
Yeah I fucking know my dudes. That sort of right-wing doesn't seem that far-right to you. Your politics are just like that right now. And you almost gave it to us-- like fucking herpes.

i love voting. i walk to a random building where i then walk through a path made of chairs blocking the rest of the building, hand my id to three different people, then stand in an empty room that feels like a warehouse. all of this is worth it for the secret private time that you only get every few years, where you go behind a piece of cardboard and stare at a piece of paper to make sure you still remember how to read, where nobody's allowed to bother you. then you put the secret paper into a box where later people will open it and count every paper by hand in a peer reviewed process. beautiful.

Liberal Leader Mark Carney pitched Alberta as the heart of a new superpower in both clean and conventional energy Tuesday night as part of his first campaign stop in the province. "I thought I was in Calgary," Carney said of the reception from the crowd of more than 1,000 that had gathered at the Red & White Club at McMahon Stadium in Calgary, the home of the CFL's Calgary Stampeders. "This is amazing!"

not to get political but also getting political because the canadian federal election is truly bringing out the worst in people, and by people i mean the conservatives. the liberals won the election. get over it. i'm sorry that people with morals looked at the things that PP voted for and against and decided that those things didn't align with our morals and that we wanted a leader who did align with our morals. now, personally, i would have liked to give my vote to the NDP but based on where i live, i had to vote strategically in order to vote against the conservatives, so my vote went to the liberals. not even mad about that, though, because honestly i would love trudeau for another term over PP.
but the conservatives are really showing their true colours at the moment. i live in a household where everyone 18 and older voted conservative except for me. i've seen post after post about conservatives giving liberals an "aptitude test" in which they have to connect two dots, and the other instruction is to not eat the crayon that is provided for us. conservatives are literally calling us stupid and brainless, but the second i say the same about conservatives i get a lecture on how i'm not mature enough to have a political opinion.
im seeing repeated videos of conservatives removing the canadian flags off of their homes and replacing them with alberta flags (bc alberta wants to separate from canada), and american flags. and yet they call liberals the cry baby snowflakes.

unfortunately in the upcoming canadian federal election, strategic voting is what’s going to have to happen so the Libs, NDP’s and greens don’t split the votes (like what just happened with ON’s provincial election 🙄🙄) and hand parliament over to the conservatives and tiny pp temu trump.
here’s a smart vote website that helps predict what party your riding is leaning towards, and what party you can vote for to make sure the PC’s don’t win in your riding.
I’m an NPD voter. My riding for provincial is VERY orange. My riding for federal is also exclusively red though. and I’ll be voting red since that will be what helps keep the cons out of my riding.

VIVE LE CANADA 🇨🇦
So proud of my country today! We didn't screw this up like down south! Canada remains strong! We got a Harvard grad PM! NOT a convicted felon president!
May America rebound from its mistake soon and once again, Canada and the US be the friends we always were before all the BS that idiot in DC caused!
Stay strong, America. Canada's win tonight is the start of yours again!

TW: mentions of DV, mental health
Hello my friends,
Not my usual content but just wanted to have a quick chat.
I work in an industry that is really heavily intertwined with Australian healthcare. Today, I had one of the most heartbreaking interactions of my 3 years in this role.
A young woman presented with nothing but a suitcase and a dead phone. She was pretty much covered in bruises, lacerations and the fear was absolutely oozing off of her. Earlier today, she had decided to leave her DV situation. Knowing she was going to be homeless. Her situation is unfortunately the reality for a lot of Australians.
For those of you who are not Aussie readers, please know this - Australia is currently an incredibly scary climate for women. In 2023-2024, it was reported that 1 in 4 women and 1 in 8 men have experienced partner abuse since the age of 15. I am part of this statistic.
So far this year, 23 women have been k!led by an intimate partner. The federal election campaigns haven’t addressed these issues at all.
In case you need a reminder or are after some support, here are some resources you can access at home:

You deserve to take up space.
You deserve to feel safe.
You are not alone.
Life is worth feeling hopeful about.

I love seeing how many people on here follow Australian politics, at least for important things like the Federal election.
We have such a great electoral system, one of the best in the world. Though there is room for improvement and it has been made worse in the past couple of decades.

Hey Canadian’s? 🇨🇦 🍁
with the upcoming federal election (MONDAY APRIL 28) and I’m guessing the average canadian tumblr user does NOT want the PC’s/PP to win, I think we should be rallying our friends together and make going to the polls a whole event, hell go treat yourselves to dessert after, go to a movie, go get dinner! But do what you can to hold the people and friends in your life accountable for going to vote, because the young people in our country do not vote, and it’ll be a lot of people our parents and grandparents ages voting for PC’s

this was just from 2021, we are SLACKING!!! WE are the future, we should be voting for it accordingly! Hold each other accountable this election season, ask people in your life if they’re registered to vote, remind people that they can VOTE WITHOUT THEIR VOTER CARD and can vote with VARIOUS ID OPTIONS, go voting together, help people find their riding, look together and figure out what the strategic vote will be in your riding to keep the PC’s out, offer to help out with rides to the polling station if you’re in a position to do that, or have small groups that could travel together and split an uber or taxi! Or if you or other canadians you know will be away or out of town or busy on the 28th, here are their options for early voting or voting by mail!
people outside of Canada please reblog, this is one of our most important elections, especially given the current trade war and casual invasion threats 🤪
