finally cleaned up a piece i'd had sketched out of archibald last year, actually did the thumbnail right next to the oblivion piece i just finished! it came to mind when i was listening to his playlist and thought that it'd make the perfect cover. he's just done something terrible. his unwavering strength despite how powerless he is has always resonated with me, and always will.

feel free to give the playlist a listen, archibald is my robin but it's applicable to all, and naturally i've found some hard-hitters over the years from his being such a deeply personal character to me. i'd love to discuss if the chance ever arises hah

So adding to that idea is a particular moment for the climax where Robin's S support (works for any) is killed right before their eyes, and engulfed in rage releases the Fell Dragon's power. I imagine it as Robin snapping similar to Gohan's SS2 transformation in the Cell games.

A quick personal ref for myself of my 'human' Grima bc 1. it's very hard to draw self-indulgent doodles with how massive he is, and 2. I'm staying well away from the moral dilemma that is doing literally anything with a Grima-possessed Robin lmao.

That said, he's still very tall in this forme so here's a Lucina for scale:

I am also tempted to give him some extra arms/make a proper ref sheet that also includes some extra notes like how he looks when the helmet is removed, but I'm tired so that's something for tomorrow me to worry about.

chrobin week 2022 ✶ day two ✶ ghost

hopelessly adrift in the eyes of the ghost again, down on my knees with my hands in the air again, pushing my face in the memory of you again, but i never know if it’s real— never know how i wanted to feel.

this piece has been brought to you by listening to the cure’s disintegration (1989) for weeks, truly one of the best albums ever made. “the same deep water as you” has been my favorite song by them for awhile, and aligns so well with these two, that it hurts. that was my initial inspiration, but i actually never heard “untitled”, the closing track that this piece seems now to fully depict, until i was well through drawing the lines. what a powerful experience that was! i am still moved.

in my mind, chrom never stops thinking of the loss of his other half. his last wave, his shimmering disappearance. it erupts out of him in billows of smoke and grief, of tears, as he finds himself leaning on something that is no longer there. but like the song, there is a strange hope in this never-ending pain. though he doesn’t yet know it, he is right to think he’s not really gone.

i can’t even express how much meaning i put into this illustration, how much meaning i find in the music, how much meaning these two men continue to have to me, in their perfect portrayal of unconditional love, of sacrifice.
