A post dump of Connverse sketches n doodles that are either scrapped idea, commission pose option that wasn't chosen, or little doodles in between commissions, that I'm not sure what to do about. Might finish it, might never will. haha

The thing is. Bad/gross food is rarely a DISH - when food is bad it's because it's been badly made, whether because of skills or available ingredients. but a dish p much only exists recognisably and has a name because someone likes at least one version of it.
which is to say. there isn't really a way of naming a dish, school of dishes or specific food culture and going EW ISN'T THIS DISH UNILATERALLY CONCEPTUALLY DISGUSTING without denigrating quite a lot of people.
like you don't have to like it in any form. but it's eaten and shared because it's good to a not insubstantial number of people when cooked right.
(and I don't really understand how you approach that with total incuriosity when it's a dish you haven't tried like. ARE rocky mountain oysters good? Maybe! I would very much eat some to find out!!!!)
this is actually something the British food poll did in a way the American ones I've seen haven't really - they described how the food they're imagining is, specifically, badly prepared (grey meat and veggies; unseasoned shepherd's pie). which is wildly tipping the scales by calling it British Food but. like. that is an on point definition of why that food is gross.
(this also applies to American chocolate, which like. Broad category but I think most of us understand this refers to low-cocoa high-sugar chocolate, probably with bucolic acid. so we are being invited to imagine Badly Made Chocolate not. the concept of chocolate)
personally I just think it's very rarely a good or funny idea to shittalk how gross any given food culture is. partly because food is important and culturally evocative for most people, partly because it's very...alienating? to be like WHO COULD EAT SUCH A THING? just because you wouldn't, and largely because to be frank it says more about you than about the food that you have so little imagination or curiosity that you can't imagine why a food might be enjoyable to folks who aren't you.
yes this includes jello salad, I would like to try it. ONCE. if it wasn't appealing to someone it wouldn't be so widespread.

As soon as I tell people I study history they always want to drop their history opinions on me. As soon as I tell people I study Christianity but I'm not personally religious OH BOY do they want to tell me their religion opinions. Usually these are much more interesting than their history opinions. Yesterday we were touring a potential wedding venue and the event coordinator told us his entire religious background (he was a preacher before going into public history) (the venue was a museum) and then ranted for a solid ten minutes about grace and works and also people who use religion to gain power and misinterpret and mistranslate the Bible to oppress people and every beef he had with the history of the church. Right there in the reception space. 10/10 interaction

Genuine Question but is Dick’s love for ABBA a real thing or is it just fanon. Also, what music WOULD Dick listen to?
I don't think it's a canon-canon thing solely based on the fact that ABBA isn't specifically named but he most definitely listens and loves it based on his music preferences!
His music taste is a combination of 80's boy bands, pop rock, post-punk, acoustic pop, alternative rock, rock and roll, and pop.
I can't remember the issue but somewhere in the comics he talks about how he loves post-punk music. Post-punk is when artists took orthodox punk music and started to explore dynamics, dance beats, electronics, and to push the boundaries of the pop rock of the time. Source
It's slower than punk rock but more lyrically defined with meaningful messages about politics, world issues, etc as many artists were into.

Nightwing (2016) Annual #1
80's boy bands were considered upbeat pop which falls right in line with ABBA's music style.

Teen Titans: The Silver Age (Part 1)
He loves Rock and Roll too. Actually all of the OG Titans-Dick, Wally, Donna, Roy, and Garth do.

Titans Hunt Issue #2
Also a whole heck of these songs on his playlist are from filipino rock and pop bands which is super interesting. Introvoys (pop rock from 1980s), M.Y.M.P. (2000s acoustic pop band), Rivermaya (1990s alternative rock band), Chicosci (rock band from late 1990s), Ariel Rivera (romantic ballads), Nina (pop and R&B).
He seems to like music that has an intensity to it which makes sense because people who like rock music like it for its focus on personal expression and authenticity.
Going by his music choices, I'd say he most definitely also loves bands such as:
Nirvana
Mother Mother
Queen
Arctic Monkeys
AC/DC
Interpol
Imagine Dragons
Fall Out boy
The Cure
Coldplay
Radio Head
The Killers
Paramore
New Kids on the Block
Vampire Weekend
Twenty One Pilots
Guns N' Roses
The Beatles
Metallica
Bon Iver
The Offspring
Led Zepplin

i feel like the idea of seasoning food is doing some weird backwards thing because I've seen a couple times people coming for dishes like hainanese chicken rice because it looks bland and soggy w ppl not understanding like the way its made....
like the point of this was to decolonize the way you view food but now it's circling to ethnic food is only acceptable if it fits the palatable way its supposed to look

I miss my fellow filipino friend who was obsessed with saiki k too 😔😔 The headcanons of how each character would speak in pinoy was so funny. So, um.. filipino trigger warning 🗣‼️
Kaido is definitely a conyo english/filo speaker. He was exposed to a lot of english content for kids. My boy has a hard time answering filipino exams and quizzes, and anything with deep filipino. (He has to really focus when the subject is in tagalog, he's barely hanging onto his grade.)
Kuboyasu is a hard-ass tagalog speaker with formal tones. (He only speaks the way he's used to when joking, swearing and gangster dialogue etc.) I headcanon he's pretty okay with english, maybe it's because his old gang was a diverse group. But, he's not all that amazing with english as well. (He stutters occasionally when reciting in english.)
Saiki would talk formally in normal tagalog but with slight english to be seen as normal since it's the trend right now.
Teruhashi would mostly speak english to be prettier, but would speak fluent tagalog when the subject is filipino. Everyone admires her for being so perfect with both languages. (She probably knows spanish, too) (She has a bit of an accent, but it's like fluent english with a slightly rough filipino tone).
Nendo talks slightly like Kuboyasu, but more vulgar since Kuboyasu is trying to keep on the "straight and narrow". Nendo does NOT care to regulate his way of speaking. He probably speaks english only to mock aircon humor. And no, he would not speak english during the class itself. (It earns him a lot of minus points on his grade since you are required to speak english in all english classes).
Hairo is really good with tagalog. He's not great at english. He speaks little english, and it always takes everyone a second to understand what he's saying 'cause he speaks deep filipino. (It's helping everyone improve their tagalog, and everyone becomes more inclined to talk in filo.) (He knows Kapampangan but doesn't speak it, and no, I'm not saying this because I'm half-Kapampangan... maybe..)
Saiko speaks fluent english with an american accent. He speaks filipino but only a little of it. Kinda similar to Kaido, but he doesn't really have a hard time with it. (He knows Bisaya and grew up Cebuano, but he doesn't let anyone know that because he's embarrassed it'll ruin his american-english reputation.)
(More coming, maybe.)

How about that “Take-a-Taste” after my Filipino pal visited to this restaurant? The way how he’d tasted such delicious traditional meals is satisfying. I’m in for the Pork Sisig and rice if I would like to have some. 😋👍
Though I would be careful of eating too much rice if I were him. Just make sure to burn some calories afterwards til you’ll be alright.

i’ve said it before and i’ll say it again. it’s so fucking funny and ironic to me that the people that have been the worst gatekeepers when it came to western classical music, already a place where people like me are so horribly underrepresented, were people in my own fucking ethnic group who are also themselves horribly underrepresented. and it was the americans who have welcomed me with open arms and like. loved me and cared for me and made me fall in love with music and re-fall in love with music. so how do those boots taste huh

Huh, an actual Dandy worthy of being called their name? Neat. So for a... less serious few questions: What do you folks do in your freetime? Favorite food? Finally, what do you think of PINEAPPLE PIZZA?
Poppy and I have answered that question! I play multiplayer games and play dress up with Poppy from time to time! Poppy mostly plays with Pebbles and Glisten and messing with Astro!
it's like these dirt tracks are never ending... ;-;
Anyways! My favorite food is cookies! And I think I've heard Poppy say her favorite food was anything spicy, which I wonder how she is able to take! Spicy hurts a lot!
I mostly read books on my free time, a nice cup of either tea or coffee with a book is nice :) though I do sometimes read fanfiction and watch online shows on my laptop. I do play a few video games, most of them being lighthearted, like Stardew Valley :) but I do play some serious ones
hmm, I think I would say my favourite food would be mangoes :) specifically the more sour and hardened ones
I read and watch TV shows like Astro, but I do sometimes do some kind of paper craft
They look cool!
As for my favourite food.. probably pork sisig.
And to answer your question Luke, we don't particularly care for pineapple pizza. We're neutral on it.
it's not that bad, but it could be better
I like it!

i wonder how much the fact that filipino cuisine is still so unknown in the west (in my experience at least) is because of our general squeamishness about offal meat
