The direct actions:

Sans smiles at Wingdings, who does not return it

Sans is bothered and upset by this, before closing his eyes and accepting it.

They go back to staring up at the ceiling, except Sans looks sadder now.

Wingdings continues to sing, content with this.

GASTERING TIME

Cut to the present day-post papyrus day,

Gaster is belting out happily while Sans is horrified at what his…brother??? has turned into.

Before they both come to a (reluctant on Sans’ half) acceptance at the situation.

What they’re supposed to translate to:

Sans encourages Wingdings to come out of his comfort zone. Instead of staying in the lab 247 and shutting out the rest of the world while still wanting to make it a better place with his inventions- why not grab some food at Grillbys?? (I just thought of how funny it is that Sans can’t get Papyrus to enjoy Grillbys either, for different reasons but still. CMON GUYS- GO GET SOME GREASY FOOD WITH YOUR BROTHER)

But he shuts this idea down constantly, no matter how subtle or direct Sans is, he can’t seem to stop his brother from going down an incredibly self destructive route. When he closes his eyes and looks back up at the ceiling…I wouldn’t call that “giving up on Wingdings” but definitely trying less hard. He cant force him to do anything so why try

(ofc Alphys comes in- BUT THIS IS A 24 SECOND ANIMATION, WE DONT HAVE TIME FOR THAT- CHOP CHOP!) (also just as an aside i love that when Sans realizes he cant force Wingdings outside he just brings the outside to him 😭😭)

But Wingdings is fully content with this “giving up”. He gets his way!!!

Thats when we see an interaction between these two, YEARS later. Sans is, needless to say, pretty horrified at whats happened to him (we’re ignoring lack of memories in this situation btw) but Gaster is thrilled and tells Sans that basically “I wont be here for long, i just wanted to say that despite my actions I promise I loved you” which Sans feels many emotions at- but “grief” bundles those all up in a nice trauma bow.

Gaster then goes on to say basically “this has been fun, but this is probably the last time we will ever interact because I have business to attend to, and you have Papyrus’ to attend to!!!” Sans reluctantly accepts this. Again. Gaster always staying within his comfort zone and Sans just going along with it because he cant force his stubborn as hell brother to do anything.

Basically long story short, Sans is not happy in either of these situations. Both times Wingdings puts his work above his brother.

i love that sophie canonically told eliot, hardison & parker her real name like a decade ago, but now, even when its just them four alone, they still call her sophie. on one hand, that's very sweet and significant - as she tells astrid, sophie is her "real name", sophie devereaux has become real through the important relationships she's had as sophie and the way they've shaped her as a person. on the other hand, i think it would be funny if they're not calling her by the "real name" because they forgor

Papyrus has got a lot to think about, now that he remembers the other half of his life

WHAT DO THE BUTTERFLIES MEAN??!?!?!!?!? WHAT DO THEY MEAN WHAT DO THEY MEAN

But nevermind that, loveeed making this loooved thinking about it looved the torment it put me through thinking of how on earth itll go when/if Papyrus ever remembers who he used to beee :3

In the beginning- I remember seeing at least 2 drawings of Sans and Alphys sleeping while Wingdings is wide awake. I wanted to make a little somethin different and play with that. His eyes also being closed is supposed to communicate a sort of happy moment where they’re finally all on the same page. It also makes it more “hehe that TECHNICALLY could still be papyrus ☝️” its not.

The reason behind that shot though is I that I feel like good memories would make it harder for Papyrus to disconnect entirely from that part of his life. There were SOME GOOD THINGS and its just like…ugh. Its hard to put this part into words, but you get me. ITS VISUALIZED THERE AND THATS ALL YOURE GONNA GET OUT OF ME

(I tried really hard to work Flowey somewhere in this, but that never worked in the end- so whoopsies to all the Flowey fan club members)

The hands holding the star, then having a butterfly coming out- I’m actually obsessed with that shot cause theres a lot of things I can say about it.

Its intended to be ambiguous on exactly who’s hands they are cause the type of holes in them are just scribbles-

But thats just because transitioning between Gaster and Papyrus’ hands looks bad and also skeleton hands are really hard- SO!!! its an in-between thing. Its supposed to go from Gaster being obsessed with the star, GRABBIN IT, then a butterfly comes out of Papyrus’ hands. We’re comparing and contrasting the difference between how they handled their own traumas, and their view on life as a whole.

Again, im assuming a lot about Gaster in this cause we still don’t know how he’s gonna be characterized in this comic, but in this animation we’re gonna say he deals with life and his trauma by obsession and all that jazz, while Papyrus makes something new with it.

The fact that they’re trying to trap something in their hands WHICH HAVE HOLES IN THEM is also a part of this meaning. I feel something that has remained true for Wingdings, Papyrus, and supposedly Gaster, is they persevere despite any circumstances. Of course they don’t go in without thinking, but when they want something they are GOING to get it no matter how ridiculous or impossible their chances of success are.

SO YA THATS THE ANIMATION :D

originally I was gonna have Wingdings being happy, then Papyrus being sad to show that same “happy memories” thing, but the transition never looked quite right, and something simpler just looked better

popping back in for a couple seconds, because I am obsessed with these two throwaway characters from the last new year's bit. I need to know more about this fancy overdramatic theater kid and IT nerdling's more-likely-than-you'd-think friendship.

(brb, building an entire mental headcanon around these random characters who will literally never appear again. they have a whole sitcom together...in my heart.)

No srsly, this is an amazing Au done by an amazing artist! I love it SO MUCH, I also wanted to do an animatic for the first chapter but I still don’t know what song to use and don’t have the time-

SOOO to show my love and appreciation for the comic and just the whole idea the Au has, I wanted to do this >:}

I really like how this turned out, even if it still looks stiffy and out of place BUT it’s still an achievement for me u-u
