now can I see DALEX or DALLIE in hisui PLEASE?
Known only in old photographs and journal entries as "The Man in the Fox Mask."
Like a star fallen from the heavens above, this young man fell from beyond the space-time rift and into the untamed land of Hisui. While the humans were skeptical of this stranger, the Pokémon of the Obsidian Fieldlands seemed all too welcoming, with even a Galaxy Team member's Typhlosion quickly coming to the man's aid, as if it sensed his arrival.
Not wanting a young soul to be left to perish, the Typhlosion's partner, a man named Solata, insisted that the purple-haired outsider be brought back to Jubilife Village. When asked later, Solata claimed that the young man was a relative of his that must've lost his way. The young man, who introduced himself as Dalex, was then told to return to his starting point of the Obsidian Fieldlands as part of Captain Cyllene's trial to become a Survey Corps member. With a timid Rowlet by his side, Dalex passed with flying colors, showing absolutely no fear towards the Pokémon he either fought or captured.
It wasn't until he donned the Survey Corps uniform that he began wearing the fox mask that he would eventually be known for. A combined welcoming gift and gesture of good will from Anthe, the fox mask only added more mystery towards Dalex as a whole, with some people even forgetting what his face looked like underneath.
As a Survey Corps member, Dalex can best be described as the golden child. While his mission as an agent of Arceus is clear; to seek out all Pokémon, he can't ignore the fact that people in Hisui view Pokémon as dangerous creatures. A worldview that's nearly the complete opposite of both his and his era's. He aims to bridge that gap as much as he can during his time in the past, so he does his best to complete requests that involve bringing an actual Pokémon to whoever's asking.
Even with the fox mask covering his face, most Pokémon seem to understand his will and feelings, helped by the fact that he actually talks to them. Not at them, to them. Of course, he can't understand their replies without the help of Solata or a Psychic-type, but he still manages to get some ideas regardless. To him, it's nothing special since most Trainers naturally learn their partners' behavior patterns as time passes, but to the folks of Hisui, it's amazing at best and borderline supernatural at worst.
Given his people-pleasing nature, and his ability to perceive the suffering of others (the latter of which he isn't even aware of), Dalex will usually focus on others' wellbeing before focusing on his own. Even to the point of ignoring injuries or illnesses, which always comes back to bite him in the ass.
The best examples would be the aftermaths of his battles with Lord Kleavor and Lady Lilligant. In the former, he gets a nasty gash on the back from Kleavor's axe, and while it is tended to as quickly as possible, he doesn't stay in bed for very long, but agrees to stay within Jubilife's walls and blatantly lies that he's fine if anyone asks about his wound. As for the latter, he's hit by Lilligant's poison powder during the fight but fails to take note of it until after the Lady of the Ridge is calmed. He promptly passes out and is stuck recovering in the Diamond Settlement for over a week.
While he tries his best to keep his origins a secret, it's while he's recovering from Lilligant's poison that part of it finally slips. Drifting in and out of consciousness, Dalex starts mumbling what first sounds like nonsense, but turns everyone's heads when he utters one phrase:
"I won't let you destroy Sinnoh."
Extra Tidbits!
Should Dalex have ever seen such photos in the modern era, the mask, change in hairstyle, and the old sepia tone blocking out most of the color in the pictures would completely hide his true identity. Dalex never realizes that he's the man in the photos until he's given the mask in Hisui. And even after figuring it out, he doesn't focus on it very much.
In this version of Legends' events, the first ones to know that Dalex fell out of the sky are Solata, Kamado, Laventon, Akari/Rei, and Cyllene. Adaman and Irida are told when they arrive, and the rest of the village (as well as the Diamond and Pearl clans) hear about it via rumors. Most doubt it claiming there's no way he'd survive such a fall, while others say that it explains his clothes (before joining the Survey Corps), oddly fearless behavior towards Pokémon, and even the way he stops to stare at the space-time rift almost every morning. Regardless of whether they believe the rumors or not, the absolute truth is that Dalex is an outsider, so people are wary of/rude to him from the start anyway. Looking at you, Beni.
The more superstitious folk believe that Dalex is actually a Zoroark in disguise. One that cannot copy the face of a human, so he wears a mask that just so happens to resemble his "true" self. Don't worry, you're not the only one who thinks it's a ridiculous accusation.
The phrase "I won't let you destroy Sinnoh" implies that from Dalex's perspective, the events of Diamond/Pearl/Platinum have either already happened or were happening right before he was sent back in time by Arceus. Haven't decided which yet, but here's both options:
If it already happened, it's simply a memory that haunts him despite everything turning out alright in the end, similar to his encounter with Groudon back in Hoenn. This marks the second time Dalex has gotten involved with Legendary Pokémon, with Arceus being the third.
If it was currently happening, Dalex was trying to stop Cyrus from creating a "world without spirit." As Cyrus mentions in Platinum, the Lake Trio can't calm down Dialga and Palkia if both are present, so they opted to settle Palkia first. Before Giratina arrives, Dialga loses control and unleashes its Roar of Time, creating a portal with an unknown destination. Dalex started to get sucked in, only for his friends (Valerie, Dawn, Lucas, and Barry) to grab on in hopes of saving him. Even with their combined efforts, the pull of the portal was too strong, so Dalex shook himself free from everyone's grip, letting himself be dragged away.
This sacrifice caught Arceus' attention (who was already observing the events as soon as Cyrus summoned Dialga and Palkia), and rather than let Dalex be dropped off to who, er, when knows where, Arceus decided to make Dalex its agent, sending him to the Hisuian era. It promised to send Dalex back home once his mission was complete.
And yes, Arceus does follow through on this promise. No loopholes, no double-crossing, none of that.
