the warrior of light as a game-breaking force of violence
there's a moment, relatively early in dawntrail, that establishes succinctly how out of place the warrior of light (as the savior of eorzea and main character of four successive final fantasy game plots) is in what is essentially the story of fresh new final fantasy protagonist wuk lamat. and it sets up quite nicely how the framework of fantasy video game conflict pulls the warrior of light forever towards violence as the expansion goes on.
spoilers through 7.0 follow
consider wuk lamat's kidnapping and rescue. bakool ja ja holds his blade to wuk lamat's throat, taunting you. his lackeys line up against your party in neat little ranks suspiciously reminiscent of a classic final fantasy encounter screen.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and it simply does not matter to the warrior of light. you stride right through their combat setup because you are beyond that by now. the warrior of light has absolutely no respect for the "we are about to do ATB combat" lineup. the camera even jumps the line for you in one continuous rotating shot, crossing the axis of action as though to emphasize through the disruption of visual convention how far outside the game's boundaries you are.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
this is how far you are above the problems of dawntrail's first half. you cannot even be bound by the normal rules of cinematography and video game combat. everyone else here lined up for a good old-fashioned scrap and the warrior of light said haha nope actually. i'm going to stroll through here like a god of war astride this tiny battlefield. your henchmen cannot even raise a hand to me. i don't even have to engage in violence directly anymore. my mere presence is enough.
in fact, not only can bakool ja ja's henchmen not raise a hand to you, he's not even worthy of your direct intervention. he kidnaps wuk lamat and steals her keystones and frees valigarmanda and kidnaps hunmu rruk and none of it warrants the warrior of light so much as raising a finger. he's wuk lamat's recurring villain, that's not your problem. you're just here to take in the scenery.
zoraal ja spends his whole life aspiring to be thought of as his father's equal and a worthy successor to the dawnservant as the "resilient son." all it takes for gulool ja ja to acknowledge you as a warrior on his level is like a five minute sparring match. the acknowledgement from gulool ja ja that zoraal ja hungered for his whole life and would eventually go full cyborg supervillain to get via regicide is something the warrior of light receives casually in a throwaway line after their level 93 solo duty on the way to more important plot conversations.
Tumblr media
it really seems for a second, in the first half of dawntrail, like you are strong enough and the problems simple enough for this to be a clean and easy adventure. bakool ja ja? power of friendship'd. mamook? successfully reintegrated, no worries about the crimes against humanity. rite of succession? handily won. nothing can stop you. even duty finder queue times have been conquered: you can do all your duties with trusts now.
all of which only makes it better when the second half has sphene ask you and wuk lamat directly: could your strength have been enough to save alexandria? could you have found a different way?
Tumblr media
i know some people get very annoyed we don't intervene in the gulool ja ja fight. now personally i think if you see arthur and mordred squaring up it's rude to intervene, but beyond that, it simply wouldn't have mattered. by the time zoraal ja's forces arrived in tuliyollal, alexandria and tural were already on a collision course and doomed to conflict. your hands alone could never have averted this conflict. sphene was always bound to do what she did—and certainly a gulool ja ja without his reason would not be any more inclined to peace than wuk lamat and koana were.
there's a great little moment just before living memory where estinien, champion at reading the room, is like "okay so if thancred and i stay here that frees up you up, aibou, to do what you do best and save the world and have epic fights. woo!!!" and immediately afterwards you basically have to apologize to alisaie because part of the sort of unspoken premise of this whole trip in the first place was that you were, finally, not going to plunge into mortal peril to save the world. you were finally going to take it easy. you were finally done with that. and she has to sort of ruefully be like nah it's fine bro. i was trying to get you to take it easy and not do insane risky world-saving violence. but y'know these things (interdimensional invasions) happen.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
by the time you reach the very last trial, all pretense that the warrior of light could have ever been beyond these problems has vanished. you were, very emphatically, not strong enough to hold onto all that was dear without sacrifice. gulool ja ja and otis and cahciua died. yyasulani was irreversibly changed, physically colonized and culturally decimated by another dimension. you systematically shut down each part of living memory, and all its friendly, charming, loving ghosts, with your own hands. with your own clicks.
not even the vaunted strength of the warrior of light is enough to overcome sphene's inexorable logic of conflict. and so, in the end, she plucks you out of the crowd and says, explicitly for reasons of your strength, that you are going to have to do a boss fight now. you are going to have to kill her and you are going to have to do it in a proper 8-on-1 trial, and she forces you to affirmatively state that you understand you're going to kill her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
did you think you were above it all? did you think you could get away from here with your weapon undrawn, with your hands clean? that for you and you alone the logic of conflict comes undone? wrong. wrong. wrong.
your strength cannot redeem you, says sphene. your friends cannot make these sacrifices for you. if you would play the hero then you must play the hero. no half-measures.

I think what is most striking about siwolism being driven off the site is specifically how the black usamericans leading the harassment campaign treat the crime of genocide.
Namely, that they either wholly ignored siwolism's claim that the Korean war constituted a genocide (pretty solid claim, which I agree with) or outright denied that it was such.
What makes this interesting to me is how those same bloggers, and many of their followers, are strong supporters of black genocide histiographic theory. It's part of why they ran Nicole ratliker off the site. She criticized that narrative and said police brutality in the modern usa does not constitute a genocide.
Which, if you think police brutality or systemic anti black racism in general is genocide but ignore or excuse the participate of black usamerican soldiers in the Korean war genocide, you hold such wildly dissonant views that pretty much nothing you say should be taken seriously.

i will stop complaining now but trulyyyyyy what gets me is that. yes i have my own little fanon things but ultimately the largely-accepted fanon characterization is never as interesting as what’s actually happening on the show in canon. especially with regards to eddie’s sexuality!

Do you need to build a static website for fun or profit?
Try the Simple.css Framework. It is a CSS framework that makes semantic HTML look good.
A good-looking sans-serif local font stack.
Typographic best practices.
Automagic flipping to dark mode.
Fully responsive.
Sensible defaults that format standard + HTML elements.
Super lightweight (10k css).
Give it a try @ https://simplecss.org/ (my home page https://vivekgite.com for live demo).

Do psychotropic drugs and/or ritual play a role in any of the blightseed cultures? A pretty broad question, lol
Yeah that’s a very broad question, the answer is about as much as it tends to play roles in real history. Alcohol is pretty ubiquitous (outside of cultures that abstain from intoxicants) and used for a variety of purposes, opioids are commonly used in some parts for pain relief or recreational purposes, stimulants (usually in mild, natural forms) are used to provide extra energy, and hallucinogens are most commonly used as part of a larger religious framework (rather than for recreational purposes). Any more elaborate answer kinda has to be case by case in a certain culture or part of the setting.
I'll just take this as an opportunity to talk about the one established sect that pretty much REVOLVES around psychoactive use. This is the Scholarly Order of the Root, which is a sort of mystery religion + elite community of scholars who currently occupy the Ur-Tree and its forest in the far southern Lowlands (southeast of Imperial Wardin, on the same land mass).
The Ur-Tree is the obligatory Huge Fucking Fantasy Tree (and its surrounding forest). It’s a mass of vegetation about a mile tall and almost as old as Plant Life Itself, its upper branches are primeval plants, which become more modern the nearer they get to the ground (and each 'level' holds tiny ecosystems, some containing descendants of LONG-extinct arthropods/other small animals). Its lowest branches and the surrounding forest are contemporary plant life, and all is connected and protected by an incomparably MASSIVE fungal mycelium network (which is itself a living god).
A lot of the Scholars' more secretive practices revolve around experimentation with substance use with the goal of expanding the Mind and transcending the body to fully connect to the Dreamlands, and they have a supply chain of traders and mercenaries called Rootrunners who traffic substances into the Lowlands. Most of their psychoactive use is in a very intentional capacity and not just like, for fun, but a LOT of them are just straight up addicted to cocaine (in the form of alchemically refined bruljenum, which is used for practical purposes of its stimulant effect during long hours of work).
All known psychoactives are desirable for experimentation (particularly hallucinogens), with each having properties that either allow expansion of the Mind, transcendence of the body, or outright divine communion. Their effects are logged in great detail and interpreted to form the basis of the Scholars' understanding of the natural world and reality itself.
The most important substance is Ur-Root, which is root matter from subterranean levels of the Ur-Tree that have both their own intrinsic psychoactive substances and a very, very high concentration of living god mycelium. The tree root contains DMT and the mycelium has its own wholly unique effects (being an actual living god). They alchemically refine it into a purer, more potent form, and use it to expand beyond the body and directly commune with the Giants, a group of entities they have identified as the only true gods.
An Ur-Root trip starts off with minor visual distortion, which turns into shifting fractals that slowly obscure the vision. Eventually the senses are entirely taken over by a 'tunnel' of rapidly shifting fractals and geometries. In a complete trip, the experiencer gets a sense that they have been pushed through a membrane and entered another realm, finding themselves in a distinct experiential Space.
At this point they may encounter entities which communicate to them in a language impossible to describe but wholly understood. These beings are understood to be the Giants, or at least aspects of the Giants that mortals are capable of comprehending (they often take familiar tutelary forms of the Mantis or the Snake, or appear resembling the same type of sophont that the experiencer is, all composed of ever-shifting geometries). The experiencer often feels a sense of unconditional and endless love from these beings, though the Giants may be more hostile and may appear in the form of the Trickster (usually a cultural figure regarded as malicious, be it an animal or otherwise) in a bad trip.
(^Up until this point, this has mostly just been a DMT 'breakthrough' experience ft. 'machine elves' and the like).
They are then removed from this space and returned to something that feels like the real world, but is nearly unrecognizable. They have a sense of rapidly moving through time, and will usually see 'the spires' towards the beginning, which just so happen to look like this:
Tumblr media
(source + some context via Implication- the spires are exactly what this art is depicting)
The experiencer continues to move across an unfathomable amount of time, occasionally 'seeing' other such flashes of unfamiliar landscapes and creatures, and yet also being devoid of all their senses, the 'seeing' is pure, unfiltered experience. There is a sense of interconnectedness with all life, and that one has become the forest (or even Life) itself. The sense of time is wildly distorted, the trip lasts only about 5 minutes but feels like an eternity and is understood as literal hundreds of millions of years.
The experiencer has usually lost any remaining sense of Self and individual consciousness during this phase (in which case this time distortion is usually a neutral or even peaceful experience), but some retain a fraction of their identity, and find themselves trapped and conscious while experiencing what feels like eternity (which can be LIFE-CHANGINGLY distressing, even after the fact).
(^This latter part of the trip is the effects of the Ur-Tree fungus).
The trip ends with a sense of rushing through the ground and back up into one's body, at which point they will abruptly return to their senses and consciousness. The details are then immediately retrieved via interview and recorded in immense detail. The whole experience is understood as having been full comprehension of the Dreamlands, communion with the Giants, and then a tour through the act of creation.
This is done as part of the initiatory practice into the inner mystery-religion of the scholars, and as needed for study by high scholar-priests. It is not taken lightly, both as it is absolute communion with the gods and reality, and in that it can be a very, very difficult experience. People who have gone through this often walk away with a permanently shifted perspective, often in a positive and/or comforting way- a sense of interconnectedness with all life, a peace with the concept of death, seeing less of a point in individual ego and the concept of Self, and comfort in the sense of divine love they (may have) experienced. This heavily influences the philosophy of the Scholars and has had effects by proxy in the religious worldviews of the region.
Details of this experience are closely guarded, and initiates are given absolutely no prior knowledge and expectations for their trip. This is seen as a necessity- their naivety will allow for a true, unfiltered experience, and can be used to gauge whether they should or should not be accepted. Those that have a distinctly bad trip upon initiation may be assumed to have been 'rejected' by the giants and thus denied full priesthood, though this largely depends on How they interpret their distressing trip- those who identify this as a test and harsh lesson in a journey to enlightenment may be accepted (as this is how fully initiated scholar-priests interpret and handle their bad trips).
This inner priesthood is only a small fraction of the Scholarly Order, and its greater function is as a hub of education and repository of knowledge, and Scholar-trained doctors can provide some of the best medical care available in the setting ('best medical care in this setting' only means so much but it's pretty solid, relatively speaking). Only a chosen few Scholars ever get to commune with the Ur-Root, and most of the divine secrets revealed in the process are kept hidden (though they indirectly influence the politics and worldview of the entire order).
#I'm kind of fascinated by the quasi-religious beliefs that have developed around recreational hallucinogen use (ESPECIALLY DMT)#In contrast to like. Uses of DMT-containing substances like ayahuasca for long-established religious purposes#So this concept is basically 'what if a religion was FORMED from pretty much the ground up out of DMT usage'#Like the common 'entities' people encounter in recreational use being identified as the Real Gods and producing a religious worldview#that is mostly rooted in this experience (while still influenced by other cultural factors)#Also the like. Meta going on here is that the fungus is a 'living god' and the oldest one on the planet#It is a VERY rare type of living god that is 'created' by non-sophont (non-sentient even) beings and exists as a mycelial network#that perfectly supports and protects an entire forest. Basically a god for plants. It is so deeply interconnected with its forest that the#usual power sophont belief would have over it has basically zero influence. This is absolutely the closest thing to A God in canon.#(While still not being a Creator/sapient/or even supernatural within the framework of this reality. Just VERY unique.)#The Ur-Tree has always been above water and grows very very slowly over the course of millenia by kind of 'pulling up' plant life from#the ground (so you see ancient long extinct plants in its higher branches and contemporary plants close to/on the ground)#The mycelium helps shield and feed extinct plant life that could not otherwise survive in the contemporary environment#And the forest is big enough to produce its own weather (it is a rainforest and has been ever since the capacity for rainforests Existed)#It's not really a tree at all in any normal sense but an amalgam of thousands of types of plants-#Some growing on top of others and some interwoven beyond any distinction. It does form a superficially treelike structure#(mostly in order to physically support its own mass) with a very wide 'trunk' and massive 'roots' (which end in actual roots).#It feeds on its own perpetually shedding and decaying 'body' and any animal life that dies in the forest is VERY rapidly#decayed and absorbed by the mycelial network (to the point that many large scavengers cannot survive in this forest)#(If you kill a cow and leave it on the ground for just 1/2 hour you'll see little strands of mycelium already growing up around it)#The fungus fruits and spores on a very infrequent basis (scale of ten-thousands of years) which causes the forest to very slowly spread#Fortunately this isn't really an existential threat because the spread is VERY slow (even on a geological scale) and the fungus#itself is rather mundane in nature and cannot usually compete against established fungal networks in other places.#Though there are little Ur-Tree mycelium groves and woodlands in other parts of the world that may (over untold millennia)#generate their own Ur-Trees (there's already a few but they are all MUCH smaller and not readily recognized as the same thing)#WRT THE TRIP:#Most of what I'm describing is a DMT trip but consumption of high doses of Ur-Tree mycelium has both mundane psychoactive effects#and IS kind of the person experiencing the fungus' entire lifetime and seeing flashes of the world's actual evolutionary history.#The amount of material knowledge that can be accurately gleaned from this this is VERY limited though.

Note
women should invent a framework for radical feminist traditional witchcraft. dianic doesn't scratch that itch. there have been murmurings for this for a long time.
working on it as we speak!!
I’ve had my own female-only interpretations of ritual tools and myths and such but I’m still piecing together my thoughts on a cosmology/mythos and ritual structure, + needing like-minded women to help test it for efficacy

Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood funds innovative mental health pilot
13 June 2025
The Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood has announced today that it is to fund an innovative new pilot to better understand how mental health experts in early education settings can support babies and young children’s social and emotional development.
Happy Little Minds is a collaboration between leading children’s charities, Barnardo’s and Place2Be.
It will see mental health practitioners providing bespoke training and ongoing consultation about social and emotional development for nearly 50 early education practitioners in two nurseries in Tower Hamlets and Hackney.
The practitioners will also provide guidance for parents and directly work with some children and families.
It is expected that around 150 babies, young children and their families will benefit from the pilot, which starts this month and will take place over a 12-month period.
Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales has long championed the importance of social and emotional development as critically important for enabling babies and young children to be mentally healthy, both in the short term and for the long-lasting impact on the rest of their lives.
Social and emotional skills shape who we are, how we manage our emotions and thoughts, how we communicate with and relate to others, and how we explore the world around us.
They are fundamental to our future mental and physical well-being, shaping everything from our ability to form positive relationships, to our capacity for learning, working, and coping with adversity.
They all have their foundations in early childhood and continue to be refined and enhanced throughout our lives.
Earlier this year, The Centre for Early Childhood published The Shaping Us Framework – aimed at improving awareness of and knowledge about social and emotional skills to inspire action across society.
The framework and other supporting resources being created by the Centre will be part of the package of training and support given to staff.
There are many good examples of mental health support being successfully embedded in schools and achieving great results, for example in the 500 partner schools where Place2Be operates across the UK.
However, far less is known about what could be done in early education settings. Yet decades of science tell us that it is the early years that are the most crucial in terms of brain development.
It is during the period from pregnancy to the age of five that our brains develop faster than at any other time and the foundations are laid for all that is to follow.
Research shows that many mental health problems in teenagers and adults have their roots in early childhood and early intervention with babies and their parents can prevent problems becoming entrenched and escalating.
With increasing numbers of children (more than 90% of three and four year olds) and more and more babies in formal childcare, these settings provide a significant opportunity for services and support to reach families.
Christian Guy, Executive Director of The Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood, said:
“Early education and childcare settings can play such an important and influential role in supporting children and their families at such a vital time, in all sorts of ways.
If settings are well-supported to promote social and emotional development in babies and young children, there is huge potential to positively impact all children, and for early intervention and prevention of future mental health conditions in those most at risk, which could be truly transformational both for individuals and society.
Place2Be and Barnardo’s have such a wealth of experience to offer, and this pilot is an important step forward in understanding more about how this can be delivered to best effect.”
The idea for this project was sparked at the Shaping Us National Symposium in November 2023, when a leading infant mental health expert from Barnardo’s had a discussion with Catherine Roche, Chief Executive of children’s mental health charity, Place2Be.
Inspired by the content of the day, the two further developed the idea and approached The Royal Foundation for funding for this initial pilot, with a view to co-developing a model with families and practitioners to understand what is feasible and developing a model which could be delivered at scale in future.
The announcement of this pilot comes during Infant Mental Health Awareness Week. This is the second pilot funded by The Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood.
In 2023, it funded a trial of an observation tool for Health Visitors, known internationally as the Alarm Distress Baby Scale (ADBB).
The tool focuses on a baby’s social behaviours such as eye contact, facial expression, vocalisation, and activity levels to help practitioners and families better understand the ways babies express their feelings.
The pilot originally took place in two NHS Trusts. Earlier this year – following overwhelming positive results from phase one – it was expanded to eight other NHS sites. This phase will run until March 2026.

sorry i wanna shut up abt it but. yuno is a complex and morally grey character and i lover her. her murder isn't morally grey at all. milgram exists to judge murders that cannot be 'correctly' judged by law, murders that are 'morally grey'. yuno wasn't put in milgram just to judge if we think abortion is forgivable, because we'd only need 1 trial to say our view on that, but still, from a lore stand point, a miscarriage shouldn't be something that'd end up in milgram, especially given the circumstances for it (got tired and fell??). though i believe abortion should be 100% allowed no matter the circumstance, if they wanted to write a morally grey murder involving abortion they could've easily done it in so many ways while still not making it the only thing abt her character and yet they made the murder itself the least morally grey thing in existence. why

you falling for the oldest trick in the book - a y chromo pretending to give a shit about human rights because he knows it'll make you think he's a good person and then you'll reward him with pussy. lmao. no y chromo can be progressive in a global patriarchy. they are the oppressor and oppressors can't be progressive no matter what. next you'll be insisting white people can be progressive.
ok first of all I was literally joking no need to come at me this hot on anon lol
second, if you actually read my whole post with the tags u would have seen where i said I CAME OUT (and he supported me) so no man is getting anything from me bc i’m literally a lesbian lmao. but I’m not sure how biological essentialism is going to liberate us from the global patriarchy????
third: EYE get to make jokes about my body and sexual history. YOU do not get to talk about what I do with my body, you do not get to have an opinion, you do not get to say who I should “give pussy” to.
tbh this mssg is incredibly condescending, shallow, and bordering on outright misogynistic. oh im just a stupid little girlie who is so naive that if a man I had sex with 5 years ago likes my insta story about trans rights im going to throw pussy at him as a treat bc I’m so silly goofy patriarchy brained & my lifelong political ethos and worldview is so flimsy that i will “fall for a man’s tricks” bc I couldn’t possibly deduce that heterosexual men are often motivated by the desire to have sex with women
anyway thanks for the scolding but never speak to me this way again! :)

this will probably make people mad, but a lot of the school/learning struggles that people experience in high school and go on to claim are inherent and immutable symptoms of ADHD are often a product of teenage immaturity, and if people made an effort to relearn things or learn new things as adults instead of using ADHD as an excuse, they would realize this

Going to try again! I failed this year due to drama in my life but 2025 will be better. I present my challenge of coding everyday for a year! Even if it's a couple of minutes and it's something simple it counts!
Today on 12/27/2024 I start with a .Net Maui project where I make a therapy app! It will interface with your therapist so therapy appointments focus more on solutions rather than recapping everything and it takes up 30/45 minutes
